Filling the Boot at Red Cedar Speedway

dirtFan website

Menomonie, Wisconsin, on June 10, 2022, the Red Cedar Speedway presented the MDA Fill the Boot Night by the Menomonie Fire Department, sponsored by Keyes Chevytown and Mars Race Cars. The WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, and the RCS Hornets were all in attendance. Features were won by Mark Hessler, Ashley Anderson, Jesse Redetzke, Jesse Bryan, Andrew Hanson, and Roy Cooper.

The T L Sinz Plumbing, Inc WISSOTA Late Model heats were topped by Buddy Hanestad and Pat Doar. At feature time the front runners raced three-wide at the green as Aaron Wilson came out on the point. Mark Hessler moved to second and Greg Nippoldt raced in third. Nippoldt was able to move to second and then track down the lead. A fire in the Larry Fitzsimmons 73 ride caused a hectic moment and drew the yellow flag. He was reported to be unhurt, but it ended his evening.

On the restart, it was Nippoldt up front as Pat Doar ran in second, Hessler dropped to third, and Buddy Hanestad had closed to battled for a top three position. Doar drove in deep in turn three and tried to pass Nippoldt but couldn't clear him and Hessler was able to get by into second. As laps ran off, a caution flag flew and packed everyone together one last time. Hessler used the highline and swept into the lead on the restart. He wasted no time on his way to the checkered flag as he built up and advantage at the line. Nippoldt finished his fine run in second as Doar finished third. Todd Frank was able to wrestle fourth away from Hanestad late in the race.

Ashley Anderson swept the Southworth Chevrolet, Buick, GMC WISSOTA Modified heat and feature and this week he didn't have to use and exciting last lap pass to get it done. Initially it was Adam Ayotte in the lead as Anderson and Shane Halopka raced low and high beside each other for second. Halopka jumped the very high cushion in turn two and maybe showed the crowd one of the best saves they will see all season. Anderson took over second, but Halopka was still looming in third.

Anderson caught the leader and worked the low side to pull even and then inch his way to the lead. A caution flag slowed the pace, and on the restart, it was Anderson leading the way to the win as Ayotte remained strong in second. Halopka came home in third over Cory Williams and Danny Thomas in fifth.

It was Dan Nissalke and Brandon Clemens winning the Union Trailer Power Equipment WISSOTA Super Stock heats and Clemens looked stout in the front of the feature. Unfortunately, it appeared as the leader may have run over his nose or possibly lost power briefly coming off of turn two and it caused a chain reaction stack up. The fast leader was called with the caution and Nissalke inherited the point.

On the restart, it was strange to see the wall tickling Jesse Redetzke running ultra-low, but he used the line to pull even with the leader and the two raced door to door for two laps. Redetzke moved to the lead and stayed down low as Nissalke tried to stay in his shadow. They finished one two while last week's winner, Ben Hillman used his familiar high groove to race from seventh to third. The 20s of Andrew and Cory Davis rounded out the top five.

Nick Ayotte and Shane Howell topped the Tim's Automotive Machine WISSOTA Midwest Modified heats and the feature was won by Jesse Bryan. It took three tries to get the feature started as the first caution caused significant damage to Josh Wahlstrom's number 19. On the third attempt, the pole sitter, Will Moelter grabbed the lead as Bryan moved not second. Travis Anderson was able to take the runner up position from Bryan as he set chase on the leader. Kennedy Swan broke down as Moelter was working lap seven and the caution flag flew.

On the restart, it was Bryan moving side by side with the leader and then working his way into first. Anderson got past Moelter and tried in vain to track down Bryan who drove the remaining laps out front to the checkered flag. Anderson finished a strong second as Ayotte took third from Moelter with two laps remaining. Moelter scored his first top five, finishing fourth, and 13th starting Jay Richardson, finished in fifth as he was closing on the lead pack fast late in the going.

The Conrad's Auto Salvage, Inc. WISSOTA Street Stocks saw Kyle Genett win the single heat and Andrew Hanson win the feature from the outside of the front row. It was Genett early and looking as if he was possible on his way to yet another feature win in Menomonie, although Hanson was able to poke his nose under him coming out of turn two for several laps. Genett blew a tire going into turn three, Hanson took over the point, and raced to the win. Braden Brauer drove home in second over Jeff Nowak and Kolton Brauer.

It was Brian Schott in the Value Implement RCS Hornet heat from the dead last tenth position, and Schott again to the lead on lap four of the feature after starting fifth. He dominated the event, but it was all for naught, as he was disqualified in the tech area after the race. Roy Cooper was awarded the win after having raced his way from fourth and Scott Cooper finished second. Preston Coombs, Venessa Seipel, and Alanna Karis rounded out the top five.

The Red Cedar Speedway takes June 17th off and returns to racing on June 24, 2022, with the Curd Buster 25, Dunn County Farm Bureau and Dairy Promotion Board sponsoring the racing action. The WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, and the RCS Hornets will all be in attendance.
