FLOWDYNAMICS SPRINT CAR DRIVERS McCARTHY AND WILLIAMS RETURN TO PERRIS ON SATURDAY

(Ontario, CA, March 15, 2024) After a mixed bag of fortune three weeks ago when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series launched its 20th season at Perris Auto Speedway, Flowdynamics team drivers Matt McCarthy and Logan Williams will return to the track this Saturday night. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will begin at 7:00.

The opening night on February 24th saw the fortunes of the team rebound up and down like a 1960s Wham-o Super Ball. McCarthy, who only raced six times in 2023, started on a high note when he stopped the clock at 16.827 in qualifying. That was the sixth fastest of the 27 cars on hand. However, that was the only bright spot on the night for the Riverside, California driver.

McCarthy's teammate Logan Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, was 12th fastest at 16.929.

The good qualifying put McCarthy on the outside of row two for the company-sponsored Flowdynamics Heat Race #1. Things went well for the first seven laps before disaster struck going into turn one. He headed towards the wall with a malfunctioning steering box.

While the crew swarmed over McCarthy's #28M in the pit area, Williams hit the track in the third heat race. The top four transferred to the A main. Everybody else had to go to the B. Among those was Williams who finished fifth.

The B main was a 12-lapper and the top 10 would earn tickets to the A main event. Drivers who finished farther back than 10th were done for the night. Due to his great qualifying time, McCarthy started the B on the pole with Williams right behind in third.

Bad luck struck McCarthy again when the repaired steering box gave up the ghost and he was done after one tour around the brightly lit clay oval.

Williams had better fortune in the B main when he placed third. That effort garnered him a spot in the 30-lap A main.

Williams started 10th in the main and the driver and car performed well together. The 2014 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year hit his marks and drove forward to finish sixth. In addition, Williams recorded a sizzling 17.176 on lap 26. Only five other drivers in the 22-car field turned a faster lap in the race.

Going into Saturday's battle at The PAS, Williams is seventh in the USAC/CRA Series championship standings. After the rough night, McCarthy sits tied for 23rd. Look for him to climb higher in the standings this Saturday.

Adult tickets for Saturday's race are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Advance tickets are available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For those who do not wish to buy advance tickets, there will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday. The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking.

Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in the City of Perris. Take the 215 Freeway. Exit at the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds.
