LOGAN WILLIAMS IS UP TO THIRD IN THE USAC/CRA STANDINGS GOING INTO MOHAVE VALLEY

dirtFan website

(Ontario, CA, April 2, 2024) Logan Williams, the youngest son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams, continued his impressive early season form when he placed sixth in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series rain-shortened main event at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway. The finish saw the softspoken Flowdynamics driver move from sixth to third in the series championship standings. This week Williams is headed back to the "Grand Canyon State" for round four in the series at the Mohave Valley Raceway.

Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, went into the race on the banked 3/8 mile Cocopah oval fresh off a fifth place finish the previous week at Perris Auto Speedway. The Perris race also netted him the "In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award" after starting 15th. Before that at the season opener, he finished seventh at Perris in February.

Williams, who has been driving the gorgeous Flowdynamics #5w since April of 2021, started the night off with his best qualifying effort of the young 2024 campaign when he went second fastest at 16.868. He followed that up with a sixth to second run in the second 10-lap heat race of the night.

With winds howling and rain fast approaching, Williams lined up on the outside of the third row for the 30-lap main event. Early on, he methodically worked his way forward and drove up to fourth. Running there for several laps, he challenged for the third place spot before eventually slipping back to sixth.

While he was still in the hunt for a top-five, the rain took over with 10 laps remaining. A red flag came out and the race was subsequently called complete with Williams sixth. The result gave him three top-seven finishes in the first three races of the year. Also, he has yet to finish in a worse position than he started in all three races.

As mentioned, going into Saturday's race at Mohave Valley, Williams is third (tied for third) in the championship standings. He is a mere three-points out of second and only 10 markers behind the point leader.

Gates at the popular track, which is located less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, will open at 5:00 p.m. The first green flag of the night will wave at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. For active military with proper id, it is $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $15.00 and children five and under are free. It is cash only for tickets (no ATMs on site).
