BRODY ROA RETURNS TO THE SCENE OF ONE OF HIS BIGGEST WINS, MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY, THIS SATURDAY

(Cypress, CA, April 4, 2024) Southern California's leading free-agent sprint car driver, Brody Roa, will return to action this Saturday, April 6th, on the track where he recorded one of his most impressive victories. The track is the Mohave Valley Raceway and the series is the USAC/CRA Avanti Windows and Doors Sprint Cars. The competition will be the third of the season for the 2023 series champion. Spectator gates at the 1/3 of a mile banked oval will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.
Roa will be getting back in the #8M 410 owned by Taft, California's Jason May. The duo last teamed up at the 2022 Turkey Night Grand Prix. They were supposed to reunite for last Saturday's inaugural Ultimate Sprint Car Series race presented by Inland Rigging at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. However, the main event winner throughout California last week was Mother Nature. She released her wrath with fury and canceled all races from the Southern end of the "Golden State" all the way to Nor Cal.
Saturday's race will be Roa's fifth on the racy Arizona 3/8 mile, banked clay oval. His first appearance at the track on October 8, 2022, was by far his best. Driving the family owned #91R, things started off in ho-hum fashion when he qualified 11th fastest in the 32-car field. However, by the time his heat race rolled around, the car was a rocket ship. He easily outdistanced the stiff competition in the 10-lapper.
Despite the fine performance in the heat, Roa was paying the penalty for the qualifying time when it came to lining up for the main event. He had to start inside the sixth row in 11th and virtually all of the big dogs were in front of him. If betting was allowed, he would have been a long shot to win from there and those who would have wagered on him would have cashed in handsomely.
Roa steadily moved his way forward much to the delight of the large crowd who was cheering him on. With just three laps to go, he shot into the lead and sent the grandstands into a frenzy. Three circuits later, he raced under the checkers with a near half straightaway advantage.
Roa made three appearances at Mohave Valley on his way to the 2023 USAC/CRA title. A year ago last weekend, he made it two in a row when he bested the tough field at the "Grand Canyon State" track. One month later he nearly did it again! He came from the sixth starting spot to finish second. Six months later he had his worst finish at Mohave Valley. It actually was not bad as he ended up sixth. Thus, after four races at the track, he has a phenomenal main event 2.50 finishing average.
After sitting out the initial race this season at Perris Auto Speedway in February, Roa picked up the ride in the Chris Bonneau #15 for round #2 of the 20-year-old series at Perris on March 16th. The veteran driver from Garden Grove, California took the lead on lap 24 of the 30-lap main and seemed destined for victory. However, a freak part failure snatched the win away. The plastic fittings that snap the bleeder hoses into the wheel broke off.
The issue sent Roa to the work area where the team made repairs and got him back on the track. With just four laps remaining, he drove from the back all the way up to fourth.
Two weeks ago, Roa made the trek to the Cocopah Speedway to drive for long time racer and car owner "Cactus" Jack Yeley. After a disappointing qualifying effort, the team made a bunch of changes to the car with high hopes for the heat race. However, when he hit the throttle warming up for the 10-lapper, something broke and sheared off the drive shaft. That put an early end to his night. Saturday, he hopes for a much better result than he had at Cocopah.
Gates at the longtime Arizona track, which is located less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, will open at 5:00 p.m. The first race of the night will take green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. For active military with proper id, it is $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for just $15.00 and children five and under are free. It is cash only for tickets (no ATMs on site).
