DESPITE RAINOUT, BRODY ROA INCREASES LEAD IN USCS STANDINGS - BACK IN ACTION SATURDAY AT BAKERSFIELD

(Cypress, CA, May 12, 2024) Mother Nature must have a crush on Southern California Sprint Car driver Brody Roa. Going into the last race at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway, Roa had a six-point lead in the point standings of the Ultimate Sprint Car Series Presented By Inland Rigging. By the time she released her wrath in the form of two rain showers that soaked the quarter-mile oval and washed away the main event, Roa expanded his lead to 18-points.

Roa, a father of two young daughters who lives in Garden Grove, California, was coming off a win at the inaugural USCS race on April 20th. That victory came on the other side of town at the 1/3 mile high banked Bakersfield Speedway. Last week, he got off to another good start driving the same #8M of car owner Jayson May that he steered to victory two weeks earlier. In qualifying, he was the third fastest in group two with a time of 14.668. That was good enough to be 10th quickest of the 27 cars on hand.

In his heat race, Roa started inside the second row. However, he was not there for long. The wily veteran drove May's car to the front of the pack at the end of the first circuit and kept it there for the duration. The victory gave him two heat race wins in the first two USCS shows. All that was left at that point was to make it two main event wins in a row in the series' inaugural season. However, persistent rain arrived before he had a chance to do so. There was hope that after the initial rain stopped, the track crew would get the surface back in shape and the program would continue. Unfortunately, that plan was upended when more rain rolled in and saturated the clay oval for the second time.

Sitting on top of sprint car point standings is nothing new to "The Pride of Garden Grove." In 2016, he scaled to the top of the mountain in the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series. Three years later, he won the USAC Southwest Sprint Car title. Last season, he was crowned "King" in the tough USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. In addition, he also has a California Sprint Week Championship on his resume.

After taking Mother's Day weekend off, Roa will be in the #8M the next two weeks. This Saturday, May 18th, will be round #3 of the USCS season at the Bakersfield Speedway. The veteran driver will attempt to win his second straight USCS race at the track and his third consecutive overall. Before his win three weeks ago, he won at his only appearance at the track last year when he outdistanced the field in a USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series race.

On May 25th, Roa will head to Perris Auto Speedway for one of the USA's longest-running races, the 71st Salute to Indy. Roa won the annual race three years ago in 2021. The initial running of the Salute to Indy, in 1948, was won by four-time Indianapolis 500 starter Dempsey Wilson. Since then, a bevy of open-wheel racing stars, including Roa, have taken home victories in the prestigious race.

Spectator gates for Saturday's race on the famous Bakersfield Speedway will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors 65+ and military get in for $18.00. For kids 6-12 it is $15.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. The track is located at 5001 North Chester Ext. Ave., Bakersfield (93308). The track website is http://www.bakersfieldspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (661) 393-3373.

The May Motorsports entry is sponsored by Winfield's Racing Engines, RDM Mechanics, Cooper's Propane, TJM Distribution, TJM Distribution, Ten West Towing, Arctic Sea Mining, Wesco International, Elite Signs and Fastenal.
