dirtFan website

Maribel, WI - Jayden Schmidt was crowned King of the WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour crown jewel, The Diamond 46 at 141 Speedway. The Diamond 46 honors the life and legacy of of Diamond Jim Letizia, driver of the infamous D7, owner of Diamond Jim's Motorcars and Diamond Jim's Steakhouse. Nick Anvelink and Mike Mullen led the field of the green flag and battled for the lead as Anvelink led lap one. Anvelink and Mullen continued to battle side-by-side for the lead, with Mullen pulling ahead on the backstretch. Mullen continued to lead with Anvelink, Brad Mueller, Taylor Scheffler and Schmidt in pursuit.

Mullen stretched his lead to 1.776 seconds over Anvelink as they began to approach the tail end of the field. There was racing all around the track, including a three-wide battle for 7th on lap eight. Caution slowed the field just a few laps later on lap ten as Jayden Fryer, Turk Letizia and Kevin Baldry got together on the front stretch, just in front of the race leader, Mullen, who had a 2.778 second lead over Anvelink.

On the restart, Mullen was able to maintain his lead as Mueller triumphed over Anvelink for second. A three-wide battle for third between Anvelink, Schmidt and Scheffler left Schmidt in third, setting his sights on Mueller.

During this long green flag run, Mullen continued to lead with Mueller in second. Scheffler moved around Schmidt for third on lap 26 and advanced to second on the next lap as Mueller fell back to fourth. Scheffler raced to the inside of Mullen in turn four on lap 30, leading the lap and continuing to battle 3-wide for the lead, around lapped traffic. Scheffler led lap 31 by .740 seconds over Schmidt who overtook Mullen for second. Debris on the front stretch slowed the field one final time, with 16 laps to go.

Schmidt raced to the inside of Scheffler as they raced through turns one and two and down the backstretch with Schmidt leading Scheffler by .022 seconds. Avenlink, Mullen and Brett Swedberg followed.

Schmidt continued to lead as Scheffler and Anvelink tried to close the gap. Schmidt held on to win his first WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour race by .769 seconds over Scheffler. Anvelink was third followed by Mullen and Swedberg.

As Schmidt claimed victoriously from his car in BMRE Electrick Carts Victory Lane, the crowd chanted "in the pond!" and following his pictures in, Schmidt took a swim in the historic infield pond at 141 Speedway.
