AFTER TWO MONTHS OFF BRODY ROA RETURNS TO RACING SATURDAY AT SANTA MARIA

dirtFan website

(Cypress, CA, August 7) After more than two months on the sidelines, 2023 Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series champion Brody Roa will return to action this Saturday night at one of his best tracks, the Santa Maria Speedway. Roa will be steering the beautiful Jayson May #8M 360 powered car against a strong field of 410s in his eighth race of the year.

Roa's last appearance came at the annual Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway on March 25th. On that night, the Garden Grove, California racing star finished third in the main event. However, the 410 engine in May's car suffered some damage. That engine is still on the operating table, so the team is installing the 360 for this week's show. It is the same 360 that Roa drove to a win over a field of USAC/CRA 410s at Santa Maria two years ago this weekend.

In nine USAC/CRA races at Santa Maria dating back to 2017, "The Pride of Garden Grove" has four wins, two runner-up results, and one third-place finish. He only placed out of the top three two times.

"It has felt like an off-season," Roa laughed about his two months out of the saddle. "At this point, I feel like I have retired. I have missed it. It is not that easy being off that long. Part of the plan this year with the family was to take some time off. But these two months were kind of an unplanned time off."

"I am running Jayson's car again with his 360 that we won all those races with a couple of years ago," Roa continued. "It is the same one we won with in the CRA race two years ago at Santa Maria. Hopefully, we can do the same thing this Saturday. That would be a nice way to come off the layoff. I know that engine, and I know that it runs. At the end of 2021 and into 2022 we really worked on it. I know that thing is a hitter and I know it can do it. I have all the confidence in the world going into this weekend."

While he has not raced in two months, Roa has still had an impressive season. Despite a broken drive shaft in the Jack Yeley Car knocking him out before the main event at Cocopah in March, a nasty crash in hot laps at Mohave Valley in April, and a rainout at Kern in May, Roa has finished in the top four in four of the five mains he has started this season. His totals include victories in two Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series races at the Bakersfield Speedway on April 20th and May 18th. The only race he was out of the top four was when he placed eighth at Perris on April 27th.

"I think we had the package to make it five wins in the five races, but we were just working through some bugs," Roa offered on his year thus far. "The 410 deal is still pretty new for Jayson. We have had some issues. They build their own motors, and they are working through those issues. Their 360s are really good, and I know the 410 will get there."

To see if Roa can do it on Saturday at Santa Maria, the gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Qualifying will start at 5:00, and the first race will start at 6:00. Adult tickets are $30.00. Seniors and military get in for $23.00. For kids 6-12, it is only $5.00, and children 5 and under are free. The track is located at 1900 Hutton Road in Nipomo.
