Tulare, CA…Putting together a pair of consistent nights to finish Trophy Cup 30, Landon Brooks and Bates-Hamilton Racing secured a ninth-place result when it came to the final standings at the prestigious event.

It completed a solid few weeks for Brooks aboard the BHR No. 42x as he filled in for the injured Justyn Cox, who is set to return this weekend.

"We made progress each night at Trophy Cup so that was a positive," Brooks stated. "I felt really good in the feature on Saturday, but just made some mistakes on restarts however, overall, I felt like we all learned a lot and got better each night."

A robust field of 65 Winged Sprint Cars competed this past Thursday during the Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup presented by Rudeen Racing opener at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway.

The night produced an evening of fifth place results with Brooks timing in P5 overall, before finishing fifth in his heat race and fifth in the B-main, just one spot shy of transferring.

Returning on Friday, the show began with the 21-year-old turning the 13th fastest lap in his group. He then started third in his heat race and drove to victory, automatically placing the Lippert Construction/ Mozingo Construction/ Dan Ewart Sales/ B Scadden Design No. 42x in the feature.

Starting on the inside of row two Brooks battled around the top five for the duration, as track conditions made things difficult to make progress. After 30-laps of racing he brought home a fifth-place finish at the checkered flag.

Brooks and BHR went into the Trophy Cup finale on Saturday holding down 10th in the overall points. A drive from seventh to fifth in his heat race set the Rio Oso wheelman up with a seventh row starting spot in the 50-lap conclusion.

A fast-paced main event proceeded to occur, which saw the opening 34-laps click off caution free, prior to the mandatory red flag for fuel and adjustments. At that point Brooks occupied the 15th position. The remainder saw him methodically battle his way forward, ultimately crossing the stripe ninth when all was said and done, also earning a ninth-place result in the final points.

Bates-Hamilton Racing now turns its attention to the penultimate weekend of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series season. After sitting out since August due to a back injury, the No. 42x team welcomes back Justyn Cox for the Central Valley two-step.

Friday night takes place at the Kern County Dirt Track, while Saturday brings teams to Kings Speedway powered by Keller Motors for the Anthony Simone Classic.

"I'm really looking forward to getting back in the seat and finishing the NARC season," Cox commented. "At first, I planned to sit out the remainder of the season, but after about five weeks my back felt like it was healing and not bugging me as much. It will be an adjustment seeing how everything feels under speed, but I have been cleared to race and I feel capable."

After missing two events, Cox ranks ninth in the NARC standings going into the weekend, while Bates-Hamilton Racing stands third in the owner points.

"I'm thankful for BHR letting me come back and finish the season, and I'm really hoping to end it strong," said Cox. "I'm thankful for everyone who sent me well wishes and the NARC Benevolent Fund for helping me. Without their assistance, I wouldn't have been able to take some time off and rest properly."
