SEXTON GATLIN RACING COMES IN FULL FORCE SATURDAY AT VENTURA

dirtFan website

(Lakeside, CA, March 5, 2025) For the first time in 2025, Sexton Gatlin Racing will have both of its team cars in competition this Saturday night in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at the Ventura Raceway. It will be the second race of the season for 20-year-old Grant Sexton and the first for his father Brent. Spectator gates at the track located adjacent to the beach on the Ventura County Fairgrounds will open at 3:00 p.m. Kris Kornder's green flag will start the first race at 5:30.

Grant, the 2023 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year and the 2021 POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Champion, kicked off his 2025 campaign when the USAC/CRA Series visited Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 15th. The talkative driver turned in the 13th fastest time - 14.398 - in the 31 car field.

Sexton's fastest lap on the banked 1/3 of a mile clay oval that is located minutes from the Colorado River, placed him third, inside row two, for his 10-lap heat. The race transferred the top four to the A main. The young driver ended up fifth and had to go to the 12-lap B main.

Grant was met by 13 other combatants in the 12-lap B main. Six of the drivers would advance to the A main and the other eight would load their cars onto the trailer for the ride home. Grant ran strong, finished fourth and snatched one of the coveted transfer spots into the A where he started 13th.

Early on, the veteran racer was going good in the 30-lapper. However, he clipped an infield tractor tire. He continued racing but at the first yellow flag, he anxiously pulled into the work area to see if he had bent the steering arm.

When the crew cleared Grant to go, he rushed back onto the track for the restart. He was moving forward again. However, his evening came to an abrupt end when he was collected by a spinning car. Unfortunately, the right front wheel was ripped off his pretty #22 and he was done for the night with a 20th place finish.

Grant has reason to be optimistic heading into this week's USCS race. In 2024, he raced with the first year group six times. Four times he placed in the top 10. One of those races, June 1st at Ventura, he had a season best third place finish.

Grant's father Brent, a three-time Lightning Sprint Car champion, will be making his 2025 debut on Saturday. He missed the race at Mohave and last week's race at Perris (Grant missed the Perris race as well while out of town for work) waiting for his Kistler 410 engine to be ready. Last season, Brent finished third in the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year chase. The elder Sexton competed at Ventura three times with the USCS in 2024. His best result was a 10th on June 1st.

Adult tickets for Saturday's race at Ventura are $25.00. Seniors 60, military with ID, and students with id get in for $22.00. Kids 12 and under are admitted free when they are accompanied by an adult. The track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard (93001). The website is http://venturaraceway.com/, and the office phone number is (805) 648-RACE.

After Saturday, it will be a short week for the Sexton Gatlin Racing Team. Both of the Lakeside, California based racers will head to the Imperial Valley Raceway for rounds #3 and #4 in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series during the California Mid-Winter Fair. In addition, they will be taking the SGR lightning sprint car for sophomore driver Braydin Collie to drive in the opening two rounds of the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series.

Sexton Gatlin Racing would like to thank the following companies for making the 2024 season possible. East County Electric Works, Keys Brothers, BR Motorsports, Maxima Oil, Automated Interiors, Valley Lubricant Services, Sexton Fire Protection, BK Wings, and Troy Dirt.
