Warner Springs, CA — Sprint car fans, get ready: "Shugah" Shane Sexton is back in action this Saturday, May 24, at the historic Perris Auto Speedway for the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Salute to Indy. This event, steeped in tradition, marks the latest chapter of a race that was first held 77 years ago.
Sexton, who hails from Warner Springs, California, was scheduled to make his third start of the season at Perris on April 26. However, Mother Nature intervened and the event was rained out—another challenge in a sport where the weather often plays a major role. Now, with clear skies ahead and momentum on his side, Sexton is ready to return to the track in one of the most distinctive sprint cars in the series. The beautiful GAS Chassis #74.
After a difficult 2024 campaign marred by mechanical setbacks, 2025 has signaled a new beginning for the young driver. He's finished both of his USAC/CRA starts this season, a notable improvement after frequently being sidelined before even making the heat races last year.
At his most recent outing at Perris on April 5, Sexton qualified 21st, battled through the field to finish fifth in his heat race, and gained two positions in the main event to finish 18th. His season debut on March 1 also showed promise, with a three-position gain in the feature. In total, he's moved up five spots across his main event runs this year—proof of his persistence and potential.
While his 2025 racing schedule will be somewhat limited due to his commitments as an apprentice heavy equipment operator attending school in Whittier, CA, Sexton remains determined to stay in the game. Fortunately, Perris Auto Speedway is just about an hour from Whittier. That can still make it a mad dash to get to the track after the last bell. However, this holiday weekend, there is no school. That offers him a rare opportunity to fully focus on racing without a rush from class to the track.
Fans can catch Sexton and the other USAC/CRA drivers at Perris Auto Speedway, located at 18700 Lake Perris Drive on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds, just off the 215 Freeway.
