Swiernik Opens ESS CNY Speedweek With Win at Can-Am

By Curtis Berleue (LaFargeville, NY) | On the opening night of the 2025 version of the Empire Super Sprints Central NY Speedweek, it was all Dylan Swiernik as he went quick time in his group, won his heat and won the A-Main en-route to a $2,500 payday.
Dillon Paddock and Davie Franek would bring the field to green for 25 laps. As the field got to turn one, Franek would get a little sideways allowing Paddock to take an early lead. Matt Tanner would fall in line behind him, with Franek relegated back to third.
10th-starting Jordan Poirier made quick work of all 10 cars in front of him, as he passed Paddock for the lead coming to the start/finish line on lap 4. For the next handful of laps, Poirier paced the field, though Paddock didn't let him out of his sight.
On lap 8, Dylan Swiernik entered the chat for the podium as he passed Franek for third, coming from his 8th starting spot.
A caution shortly after stacked the field up for a restart. Poirier jumped back out to the lead, with Swiernik picking off another car for the second spot. As the laps clicked off, the lead duo started to pull away from the field.
On lap 13, Swiernik saw his opportunity coming off of turn two and used a run he had built on the bottom to his advantage, rocketing past Poirier for the lead. With a clear track in front of him, Swiernik didn't look back, almost immediately building a lead of over two seconds. Through the remaining laps, Poirier wasn't able to get back to Swiernik, who picked up his first win of 2025.
"It was amazing," said Swiernik of his new car in victory lane. "I didn't really realize when that caution came out how far ahead I was."
"I was able to stay with him (Poirier) off of three and four, made my move in two and just pulled away for the win from there."
Jordan Poirier earned the A-Verdi Storage Containers Hard Charger award by virtue of going 10th to 2nd.
"I knew my car was going away out of two, everybody was throwing dust from the bottom to the top," said Poirier. "I felt like somebody would need a good car to pass me still, but then I saw Dylan could go middle, top bottom. I tried to follow him but I was stuck where the track was clean, I couldn't really go up in the dust."
Finishing third was Billy VanInwegen.
"I just have to clean up a couple of things on my end," said VanInwegen. "I got off to a really rough start, missed my marks a couple of times. What a racetrack though, that was a really cool race, the track changed a lot throughout the race and it just took me a little bit to get back in the swing of things."
29 cars signed in for the first night of Central NY Speedweek, splitting the field into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Jason Barney, Dylan Swiernik and Davie Franek. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Dalton Rombough, Dylan Swiernik and Davie Franek. The Cooks Hardware Dash went to Danny Varin, while Chad Phelps won the Lacaillade Masonry B-Main.
