Ewing, Bidinger wins features and track titles on Lucas Oil Speedway Season Championship Night

WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 23, 2025) - The Late Model rookie is now a champion and Robbe Ewing did it in style on Championship Night at Lucas Oil Speedway. The Stockton driver led the final 15 laps to earn the Hermitage Lumber Late Model feature victory on Saturday night while also clinching the track championship in his first season after driving USRA B-Mods.

Also sweeping his division championship with a feature win on the final night of the Pitts Homes & Realty Weekly Racing Series season was Nic Bidinger in the Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modified division.

Other track champions crowned on Rempfer Memorial Season Championship Night Presented by Bill Roberts Chevrolet were Jon Sheets (Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods), Mason Beck (O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars and Tim Brown (Hickamo Super Stocks). Joining Ewing and Bidinger as feature winners were Colson Kirk (USRA B-Mods), William Garner (USRA Stock Cars) and Johnny Fennewald (Super Stocks).

A total of 84 cars were entered on the final night of the regular season. Prior to opening ceremonies, a majority of the them gathered four-wide on the front stretch and fired their engines in unison, then made a ceremonial pace lap together in tribute to Lucas Oil and Lucas Oil Speedway founder Forrest Lucas. Mr. Lucas passed away earlier on Saturday at the age of 83.

"First and foremost, thoughts and prayers to the Lucas family," Ewing said in victory lane. "There's more to this than just the racing on the track."

Ewing started third and took the lead away from Jim Greenway out of turn four to complete lap six. The Late Model rookie wasted no time opening up the lead, with a 2.5-second margin over Greenway by lap 10.

A caution slowed the action at that point, giving Greenway and third-place Tucker Cox a chance over the second half of the race. But it was no problem for Ewing, as he quickly regained command after the restart with Cox moving into second.

With no further cautions, Ewing drove away to prevail by 2.3 seconds for his second feature victory of the season to go with four runner-up finishes and four other top-fives.

"This is how I wanted to do it. I wanted to win and take the championship home on the same night," Ewing said.

"Bryan Larimore takes care of this car, week in and week out," Ewing added. "He does everything on it. I get to drive it, that's it. And we would not be here, at all, without Eric and Kathy (Johnson), my car owners (EKJ Motorsports). We kind of came together on this deal at the end of last year and we wouldn't be here without them."

Bryon Allison rallied for third with Greenway fourth. JC Morton, a three-time feature winner who began the night 34 points behind Ewing, settled for fifth.

Fennewald earns Super Stocks win, Brown gets title: Johnny Fennewald of Appleton City led all 20 laps for the Hickamo Super Stocks feature win, but Tim Brown's fifth-place finish was barely enough to clinch the season championship.

Fennewald went from fourth to first on the opening lap. After a couple of early cautions, Fennewald held a one-second lead over Derek Brown was the halfway mark as Anglin fell from second to fifth.

Fennewald was leading by two seconds coming to the white flag when the championship chase took a turn. Tim Brown, leading by 14 points over Anglin as the night began, suddenly slowed with a flat tire while running in eighth as Anglin was up to third.

Brown was able to pit under caution to change the tire and tag the back of the cars on the lead lap. Brown was able to rally into fifth, passing three cars in the final two laps, which was enough to hold off Anglin and unofficially prevail by seven points over Anglin for the championship.

Brown, of Stoutland, posted his 11th top-five finish in 12 starts.

"It wasn't from wins, just consistency," Brown said in victory lane, adding that after the late-race drama "my wife needs to check her heart out."

Jared Hays was second with Anglin third and Kenny Carroll in fourth ahead of Tim Brown.

Kirk gets B-Mod win as Sheets takes title: Colson Kirk of Urbana charged from fifth to the lead on lap 14 and went on to beat Waylon Dimmitt and track champion Jon Sheets for the Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod feature win.

Bronson Wicker took command at the start and held it until Sheets, who started alongside him on the first row, passed him on the outside coming out of turn four to complete lap four.

Nevada's Sheets, who already had the points title clinched before the night began, opened a half-second lead when caution flew on lap later. Kirk charged into second on the restart with Sheets continuing to ride the high groove - but the race's third caution appeared on lap seven.

The race settled into a rhythm after the next restart as Sheets and Kirk broke away from the field, often racing side-by-side. Kirk was able to wrest the lead on lap 13, just before another caution slowed the action.

"What a marathon that was," Sheets said. "I think it was kind of good that I was in second there. It seemed like the bottom kind of cleaned up a little better than the top."

Kirk took it home from there, opening a one-second lead by lap 16 and going on to beat Dimmitt by 1.3 seconds. Sheets settled for third with Cayden Stacye fourth and J.C. Newell fifth.

"It's kind of a cool deal," said Sheets, who won four times at Lucas Oil Speedway this season. "We've been racing for 18 or 19 years and never won a track championship. I've never hung out at one place for a whole year. But we kind of set our goals at the beginning of the year to get this deal done and we were fortunate enough to."

Morrow Sheets, Jon's son, already had a big night and took home a trophy after winning the Kids' Power Wheel season championship during intermission.

Garner rolls, beats track champ Beck in USRA Stock Cars: William Garner of Lebanon led all the way to capture the O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars feature as he outdistanced track champion Mason Beck by nearly six seconds in a caution-free feature.

Pole-starting Garner grabbed the lead at the green and set a fast pace, with a 2.6-second lead over Dawson Fennewald just five laps into the event. As Garner kept pulling away, Fennewald, Beck and James McMillin battled it out for second.

Garner led Beck by 5.4 seconds - or an entire straightaway - by the halfway point on lap 10. Without any cautions to steal his big margin, Garner kept rolling and went on to beat Beck by 5.99 seconds in the green-white-checker 20 lapper.

The win was Garner's third of the season. He entered the night trailing Beck by an insurmountable 106 points.

"I was just trying to hit my marks," Garner said. "I was starting to get a little tight at the end. We were trying some stuff here before (USRA) Nationals comes up and have a good hot rod for that. We had a pretty good race car."

Urban'a Beck, after narrowly missing the title a year earlier, was able to enjoy his title by simply starting the main event. He also was a track champ in 2023.

"It's kind of a redemption year for us," Beck said. "Last year, every time we turned around we had some really bad luck, something breaking or getting took out by some knucklehead. But we had a pretty decent year for as short as our schedule is."

Fennewald came home third with McMillin fourth and Zach Zeugin fifth.

Bidinger claims USRA feature, season title: Nic Bidinger of Perry, Kan., finished off a track championship in the Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modifieds by dominating the 20-lap feature. He led every lap and defeated runner-up and fast-closng Bobby Williams by about three car lengths.

Bidinger had the championship clinched before the green, but left no doubts. He started up front and rolled to the lead and by lap five was in front of Ben Stockton by two seconds with Pursley in third. Bidinger was nearly four seconds in front with just five to go.

The caution-free race saw Williams slice into Bidinger's margin over the final five laps after he got around Pursley on lap 15. But Bidinger was able to get to the checkers .394 seconds clear of Williams.

"We've been struggling for this one all year," Bidinger said. "It's really nice to be on the front stretch and this was our last chance and I'm glad we were able to get it done. It's so much fun to race here all year."

Pursley was third, Chase Sigg fourth and Scotty Roberts fifth.

Late Model Special and Drag Boats next: The 11th annual Ron Jenkins Memorial brings the COMP Cams Super Dirt Late Model Series in for a two-night show next Friday and Saturday. Night One will find a $7,000-to-win feature plus a $2,000 bonus, plus another $500 bonus for fast qualifier, courtesy of Mary Jenkins Holt in honor of the late Ron Jenkins, builder of the original Wheatland Raceway.

The Hickamo Super Stocks will also be in action as the drivers battle for $500-to-win with the Show Me Vintage Racers also in action.

On Saturday, the Comp Cams Late Models will battle it out in a $12,000-to-win feature with Mary Jenkins Holt again adding a $2,000 bonus to the winner and a $500 fast-time qualifier bonus. The Hickamo Super Stocks will race for a $750 top prize and Craig Danuser of Whitetail trophy hunt has put up an additional $250 bonus money to make it $1,000 to win for the Super Stocks. The SMVR also will return.

Pit and spectator gates open at 4 p.m. both days with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7:05.

Drag boats return to Lake Lucas for their biggest event of the season, the three-day 15th annual Diamond Drag Boat Nationals Friday through Sunday. Qualifying for the Kentucky Drag Boat Association event is set for Aug. 29-30 with the elimination rounds on Sunday, Aug. 31. A three-day pit pass is offered for $100 and that includes dirt-track admission for both nights of the Ron Jenkins Memorial.
