Brody Roa Roarin' and Ready to Return to Perris on Saturday

Cypress, CA - June 18, 2026 — For only the second time in seven months, 2023 USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series champion Brody Roa will be climbing into his bright green #91R at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday night. After a successful season-opening second-place finish a month ago in the Salute to Indy at Perris, the popular driver is eagerly awaiting this week's race at the 30-year-old speed plant.

Roa, who lives in Garden Grove, California, with his wife, Tailor, and their two young daughters, nearly missed the Salute to Indy. Initially, the veteran driver had planned to make his season debut earlier than May. However, once the engine he purchased over the winter was put on the dyno, it was discovered that it had some issues. That delayed his start while waiting on replacement parts. Then, two days before the race at Perris, there was a chemical leak in Garden Grove that forced parts of the city to be evacuated. His house was four homes away from the evacuation area.

While Roa, his dad Brett, and his Uncle B stayed and worked on the car, Tailor and the girls headed to the river. That came just 24 hours after she, Brody, and the girls returned from vacation at the river.

Considering being out of the car so long, not having turned a lap on the new engine, and the chaos swirling from the chemical leak, Roa's performance was sensational. On Thursday night, he did a quick interview reflecting on that night at the track.

S.D.: Were you surprised by how well it went on the first night out?

Roa: Honestly, it went smoother than I thought with the engine. I was expecting to have to play with the throttle linkage and springs. Mess around and get myself comfortable with how the throttle works. It worked real nice. I must have gotten lucky with everything I set up and the geometry. Honestly, I did not touch it all night. That was nice.

S.D.: That was a smooth start. Are you doing anything different this week?

Roa: No. Just going to show up with the same stuff and hopefully with a little less rust (on himself after not racing a sprint car in six months). I hope to have another good night. We tried something in the main event that did not work. We tried it one night in the past and had similar results. We were hoping it would have a little more grip, but it didn't. I am going to leave that stuff in the garage this weekend and just show up with a car that we know works and just run it.

S.D.: I am guessing you are pumped up and eager to return to action on Saturday after such a promising start.

Roa: I am pretty excited after that first run. We qualified pretty good, and ran pretty good in the heat race (he won the heat). Pretty cool to show back up and do that. Hopefully, we can have a pretty similar night and do a little better.

SD: You raced for points for a long, long time. After winning the 2023 USAC/CRA Championship, you started racing more for fun where and when you wanted. Do you think you will ever race for points again?

Roa: Yes, and no. The points racing deal is fun. But it is a season-long pull. Showing up without having to worry about qualifying points and stuff is nice for me. Not having to worry about losing six qualifying points right off the bat to start the night is nice as well. One day, maybe. But where life is, just showing up is the way we do it right now.
