Shawn DeForest, Nick Baldwin, Dominic Gorden and Kevin Jinkerson claim Carnett Clash wins

Placerville, CA…Livermore veteran Shawn DeForest took the lead on lap five and went on to grab the $2,000 top prize with the Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models on Saturday at the Carnett Clash in Placerville.
Sharing victory lane at the Carnett Clash presented by Fords Only were Oakley's Nick Baldwin, Clovis' Dominic Gorden and Diamond Springs' Kevin Jinkerson. A total of 82 cars filled the pit area on a warm summer day to begin the month of August at Placerville Speedway.
The 25-lap Kings Meats Ltd. Late Model finale saw Tyler Lightfoot charge into the lead and hold command over the initial four laps. Shawn DeForest then showed his muscle and blasted by to grab the top spot that he would never relinquish.
All main events on Saturday saw numerous caution periods plague things, never allowing a flow to commence.
DeForest went on to claim the Ed Entz checkered flag over Hard Charger Randy Shafer. Current point leader Rod Oliver, Ray Trimble and Lightfoot completed the top five. A solid field of 18 cars competed at the Carnett Clash.
The Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks also saw a strong turnout of 21 cars from various tracks around the region. Veteran driver Scott Grunert climbed into the early lead and paced the field for over half of the race.
Seven-time track champion Nick Baldwin rode along in second and challenged Grunert for several laps, before making his move in the latter stages. Baldwin dropped to the bottom of the speedway and sliced his way by to snag the lead on lap 17.
Baldwin went on to capture his 46th career Placerville Speedway win, which paid a cool $1,000. Grunert, Oroville Owens, Kevin Jinkerson and Clarence Holbrook completed the top five.
Colfax youngster Cole Croft took the lead at the waving of the green flag in the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car feature. Clovis' Dominic Gorden didn't waste long however and took command after a handful of laps were completed.
Gorden ran up front for the duration of the feature but had to withstand the relentless challenges from Croft as the race wound down. Gorden fended him off to record his fourth career Placerville Speedway win with Shane Hopkins, Justyn Cox, Jake Morgan and Andy Forsberg crossing the line behind them.
Croft had finished in the second spot but was placed as the last car on the lead lap due to not stopping at tech. A robust field of 29 Winged Sprint Cars competed on Saturday night.
Kevin Jinkerson moved out front in the Mountain Democrat Mini Truck feature and never looked back on way to the $400 victory. Brian Tremblay, Brycen Bragg, Noah LaPoint and Paizlee Miller filled out the top five.
Placerville Speedway returns to action with Red Hawk Resort + Casino Night this coming Saturday August 8th.
