Brandon Davis completes USMTS Show-Me Shootout sweep at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 8, 2026) - Brandon Davis completed a memorable weekend by completing a sweep Saturday night at the 17th annual Summit USMTS Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout Presented by Foley Equipment.

Davis, of Hayfield, Minn., took the lead away from Tanner Mullens on lap 30 and went on to win $5,000 prizes on back-to-back nghts at Lucas Oil Speedway. Moreover, it was Davis' fifth straight USMTS victory.

"Heck no. I've never gotten five of these in one season," Davis said of his streak in victory lane. "I haven't raced with them as much, but these guys are good. This car is just really good right now."

Other feature winners on the program were Robbe Ewing (Hermitage Lumber Late Models), Jon Sheets (Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods) and Rodney Schweizer (O'Reilly USRA Stock Cars).

Davis started seventh and gradually worked his way toward the front as Mullens, of Wichita, Kan., set the pace. Mullens built the lead to 1.6 seconds by lap eight with Davis rallying into third by lap 17, three seconds behind the leader. Davis got around Stevens for second two laps later and began to slice into Mullens' margin.

Mullens led Davis by 1.8 seconds at the halfway mark in a race that had remained caution-free. Davis continued to quickly gain and was within .420 seconds as caution flew on lap 25 for Gary Christian's spin. Wolff was running third with Jim Chisholm fourth and Stevens fifth.

The restart saw Mullens retain the lead, but another caution appeared on lap 27 for 24th-running Ryan Murphy's spin in turn two. Wolff and Davis swapped second the next couple of leaps.

Then it was Davis' turn to take his first lead, sliding around Mullens out of turn four on lap 30. That would be the winning move en route to his 16th career USMTS triumph.

"Tanner was kind of moving around and defending and I thought I might catch him sleeping on the outside," Davis said. "I actually ended up getting on the bottom and then doing the slider. This thing is so good. It's crazy.

"I came here here a couple of different times for some big shows and thought I was never going to get the job done. To get it done against these guys it's just surreal."

Davis said his pursuit of a USMTS championship will continue with one car and one motor, plus a borrowed truck and hauler from a lifelong friend.

"I don't know if I sealed my tire up or what," Mullen said. "But I don't think it would have mattered. He's a lot better than us right now. We just have to work on it and get better."

Before he could clear to a lead of any margin, caution appeared again on lap 31, leading Davis nine laps to hold off Mullens, Wolff and fourth-place Rodney Sanders. With three cars battling for second after the restart, Davis quickly opened a 1.7-second lead - but that's when another caution slowed the field with five laps remaining.

The additional restart didn't matter as Davis cruised once action resumed, beating Mullens by about 10 car lengths. Sanders finished third with Chisholm fourth and Jake Timm fifth after starting 22nd.

"We're steady," Sanders said of his finish. "Congrats to Brandon. He's really good right now."

There were 45 USMTS cars on hand for the second straight night. Nic Bidinger set fast qualifying time in Group A at 16.628 seconds with Tyler Wolff pacing Group B at 16.721.

Ewing wires Late Model field: Robbe Ewing of Stockton led all 20 laps, but had to withstand a restart midway through the event, to earn the Hermitage Lumber Late Model feature.

It was Ewing's second feature win of the season as he cut into division points leader JC Morton at the top of the standings.

Ewing started on the pole and led the way, opening a half-second margin over Cole Henson when caution flew on lap nine.

After action resumed, Ewing cleared away to a 1.2-second leader over Henson with Kaeden Cornell another second behind on lap 15. Ewing took it home from there, finishing two seconds in front of Henson with Cornell coming home in third.

"I didn't know where anybody was at," Ewing said of his competitors. "I kept seeing some noses down here but just tried to stay as smooth and as clean as I could. The track crew did another great job tonight."

Tyler went from ninth to fourth and Dustin Atkinson wound up fifth after starting 14th.

B-Mod sweep completed by Sheets: Jon Sheets of Nevada, completed a Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod two-night sweep, leading all 20 laps for his fifth victory at the track this season and 10th win overall.

"It's never easy," Sheets said. "We were lucky to get the lead early. Track position was a key tonight. We weren't uber good down through one and two, but three and four was so technical that you had to keep your car straight and catch that moisture on the way off.

"I had one goal tonight and that was not make our guys work so. We had both ends knocked off last night I don't think anything tonight, so that's always a good night."

Sheets rolled from the start by had a 1.1-second lead over Cayden Stacye midway through the 20-lapper. In a race without a caution after a lone yellow after lap one, Sheets prevailed by one second.

Tyler Potter was third with Mike Striegel fourth and Colson Kirk fifth.

Schweizer wins Stock Cars feature: Rodney Schweizer of Kansas City, Kan., took the lead on lap four and rolled to the O'Reilly's USRA Stocks cars victory, beating Friday night winner Jaylen Wettengel by 3.2 seconds.

The fifth-starting Wettengel fell back to seventh early before rolling back into contention, taking over second by lap 10. While he was second-best this time, he was no match for Schweizer who found Lucas Oil Speedway victory lane for the first time this season.

"He;'s always good here," Schweizer said of Wettengel. "(Johnny) Fennewad is good here. There's a lot of good drivers here and we're just fortunate that we came out on top tonight."

Jayden Bears was third with Johnny Fennewald fourth and William Garner fifth.

Road to Hockett finale next: Lucas Oil Speedway takes next weekend off before the Rod End Supply "Road to the Hockett" 4th and final round on Saturday, Aug. 22. The Road to the Hockett features POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprints, POWRi WAR Sprints and 305 IMCA RaceSaver Sprints.

Road to the Hockett series points champs after the four races in the POWRi 410 Winged Springs and POWRi WAR will receive an automatic bid into this fall's open-wheel crown jewel at the speedway, Sept. 17-19. All three are running for a points fund with cash and prizes.
