- Davenport Wins Second Career Topless 100 at Batesville
LOCUST GROVE, AR (August 16, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport took the lead on lap 38 when race leader Brandon Sheppard, who had led the first 37 laps, slowed with a flat tire. Davenport then led the remaining 61 laps to win his second career Nutrien Ag Solutions Topless 100 presented by Big River Steel on Saturday night at Batesville Motor Speedway. The victory earned the current Midwest Sheet Metal points leader $50,000, marking his 8th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing win of the year. Chris Madden tried to chase down Davenport over the final 20 laps, finishing second by just 0.989 seconds. Devin Moran rallied from a flat tire to take third on the Big River Steel Podium. Rookie Dan Ebert scored the best finish of his late model career with a fourth-place finish, while Sheppard rebounded from his flat tire to finish fifth. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 91st time in his career, and for the second time at his car owner's home track, Davenport said: "I just tried not to get complacent behind those lapped cars, then I started to, and it began to get a little tricky around the top. I needed to keep slowing down and moving toward the bottom, but I kept trying to catch my left rear in that brown strip. I'm sure it looks like there would be plenty of grip from up there, but it was so slimy that I actually got looser when I tried. So, I finally said I've got to do something because either Madden or I was going to step out and try the outside. There was a lot of grip out there if you hit it just right and straight," said the Blairsville, Georgia native, who is aiming for a record-tying fourth series championship this year. "He (Madden) went a little harder on the left front; that probably doesn't sound like much, but I think it would have helped me, you know, run the top a little better for a few laps. Then it would get hot, and I would start pushing more and more. Hats off to all of you fans out here, man—it's hot, and thank you for sticking it out." Madden, driving for Kale Green Motorsports, was aiming for his second career Topless 100 win, which earned $20,000 for his runner-up finish. "We tried to save our stuff for as long as we could and make a charge at him (Davenport). About 20 laps to go, we started picking up the pace a little bit. We were really good down here in one and two, and in three and four we about evened out — he might have been a tick better down there. We caught that lapped car, and the 19M got in between us, so we kept our stuff hot trying to get around him. I finally got by him with about three laps to go, cooled out our stuff, and got back to JD. Hats off to JD, and congratulations to Devin." Moran, who fought with Davenport for second place early in the race when Sheppard was out in front, finished third and rounded out the Big River Steel Podium. "I don't know if I would have beaten JD or not, but I felt like we had the best car. We messed with him a little early in the race, got by him, and then he got back by me just a little. Then I had the flat. It's unfortunate— we come here to race, and everybody's getting all these flat tires. I don't know what the deal is, but it's just a shame. I feel like we had such a great race car, and my guys worked their butts off. Finishing third was a good night for points, but it's really bittersweet when you feel like you had a chance to win." The winner's Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, DynaGro Seed, ASC Warranty, Midwest Sheet Metal, VP Fuels, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten were Ricky Thornton Jr., Brandon Overton, Daniel Hilsabeck, Kyle Beard, and Clay Harris. - Milan, Smith and Wagner earn wins at 14th annual Impact Signs, Awnings & Wraps Open Wheel Showdown
WHEATLAND, MO. (Aug. 16, 2025) - The 14th annual Impact Signs, Awnings & Wraps Open Wheel Showdown was particularly memorable for Scotty Milan. The 22-year-old from Fort Collins, Colo., earned his first career POWRi 410 Winged Sprint feature win Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway, taking command midway through the 30-lap feature. Also posting feature wins Wesley Smith (POWRi WAR/MWRA Wholesale Batteries Challenge Series and Jack Wagner (POWRi 305 Winged Sprints). Milan, who said he had found tough luck all season after joining the series, grabbed the lead on lap 16 away from Xavier Doney after Doney had led the first 15 circuits. Milan, who had started 13th, gradually sliced his way through the field before catching and passing the leader on lap 16. He went on to beatSean Rayhill by just over two seconds in the 30-lap main event. "I finally won," Milan said excitedly in victory lane. "All year has been kind of rough. We have good runs and then instant bad luck. I'm just excited to win and coming from 13th it wasn't easy. We had the car on a rain. I was like 'holy crap, I'm moving.' First POWRi Sprint Car win, pretty sweet." Doney led in the early going after starting from the pole, but Sean Rayhall was giving him pressure just a half-second behind seven laps in. One lap later, the first caution flew with Doney holding a .856-second lead. Rayhall lost second on lap 10 as Miller slid around him as Doney led by just under one second. Doney's lead was a half-second at the halfway mark on lap 15 and one lap later, Milan used the low groove to get past Doney and take the lead. Milan wasted no time building a 1.1-second lead by lap 20 over Miller as Doney slipped to third. Miller pulled even with Milan on lap 23, but was unable to complete the pass as Milan fought back and pushed his lead to a second with five laps to go. Caution flew on lap 25 for a spin in turn two, setting up a five-lap shootout as Milan led Doney and Miller. Milan was up to the challenge, drawing away late to take the win by two seconds over Rayhall. "I know we're new here, but this 14 team, we have a lot of grit," Rayhall said of his team. "I'm just grateful to be here." Doney was third with Clinton Boyles fourth and Miller fifth. Smith captures WAR/MWRA Sprints feature: Wesley Smith of Nixa led all the way and pulled away late to claim the POWRi WAR/MWRA Sprint feature, beating Wyatt Burks for the victory. "The competition level around here, I hope the fans can understand that it's top-notch," Smith said. The pole-starting Smith grabbed the lead at the start and was in front by 1.5 seconds ahead of Dakota Earls when caution appeared on lap two. After the restart, fifth-starting Anthony Nicholson took over second as Smith continued to lead, opening a 2.8-second gap by lap eight. Another caution, this time on lap nine, erased a three-second command for the leader over Burks, who started sixth. Those two dueled it out after the restart, but Smith started to reclaim some breathing room by lap 13 of the 25-lapper and his lead was two second with five to go. Smith kept pulled away from there and beat Burks by 3.1 seconds at the finish. Jack Wagner wound up third with Samuel Wagner fourth and Nicholson was fifth. "Coming here to Lucas, I'm glad I could make it look that way," Smith said of the decisive triumph. "Especially with the big USAC show and the Jesse Hockett-Daniel McMillin Memorial coming up. This place is a tough joint to get around. It's hard on tires and hard on engines, but that makes it all the more fun when you can win." Wagner wins POWRi 305 Winged Sprints: It was all Jack Wagner in the finale of the program as he lead all but two laps in the POWRi 305 Winged Sprint feature. Wagner, of Lone Jack, Mo. started on the pole and drove away to a two-second advantage over Danny Smith by lap 10, the halfway mark of the race. But the race took on a new complexion at that point when the first caution flew, taking away Wagner's big lead. The field ran just one lap before another caution. It was a battle after the restart, as Danny Smith used momentum for a pass off turn four to take the lead on lap 14. Wagner didn't give way, though, reclaiming the top spot on lap 16 coming off turn two. Wagner held on from there and be ninth-starting Landon Muehlberger to score the win by a 1.9-second margin. "I about lost it there to Danny Smith," Wagner said. "I knew better than to try and get this thing wound up for sound. It's roll around the bottom. It is technical. You have to make sure this car is pedaled in and out and don't slip the tire. I just didn't know you have to be that slow about it." Jake Martens was third with Smith fourth and Levi Hinck fifth. - Lucky 7s! Horstman Earns 7th GLSS Win of the Season from 7th
Lake Odessa, MI - Nearly two-dozen cars were on the property Friday night at I-96 Speedway for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP to kick off a doubleheader weekend of racing. After a couple weeks of struggles, Jared Horstman returned to championship form in an impressive performance. Scotty Thiel, the most recent winner at I-96 with GLSS, led the field to the green flag alongside 2016 GLSS champion, Chase Ridenour. Thiel jumped out to the early lead in turn one, but fifth starting Dustin Daggett was quickly on his heels going into turn three and nearly led the opening lap. A caution just three laps in set the stage for great racing inside the top five. From the seventh spot, Jared Horstman was methodically working up the ladder. Running fifth on lap five, calamity unfolded in front of Horstman when Chase Dunham and Chase Ridenour came together at the exit of turn four. The contact sent Dunham flipping into the catch fence on the front stretch and Ridenour pirouetting in the air. As the two were wrecking, Horstman caught a piece of the action with the nose wing of his No.17. Dunham and Ridenour were ok but unable to continue. As the field was refired after the red flag, Thiel's Ragged Edge Racing No.51 wouldn't lock into gear, prompting a trip to the work area and realigning Thiel at the tail of the field. That handed the lead over to Daggett, and thanks to the crash and Thiel's mechanical issues, Horstman was now in second. On the restart, Daggett was able to keep his distance from Horstman; anywhere from half a second to a second the advantage. With two laps to go, Daggett tried to pass a lapped car on the bottom of turns one and two, unable to complete the pass, Daggett lost all momentum and Horstman was able to get to his inside down the backstretch and complete the pass in three and four. The race wasn't over yet for Horstman, with Championship rival Max Stambaugh, who was running sixth, ahead of him, Horstman threaded the needle between the No.71H and the outside wall to put distance between himself and Daggett. Thiel rallied back to finish third, Ryan Ruhl fourth, and Mike Keegan completed the top five. - Sheppard and Davenport Win Friday Night Preliminaries at Batesville
LOCUST GROVE, AR (August 15, 2025) - Brandon Sheppard and Jonathan Davenport each secured a 25-lap preliminary win on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway as the action began for the 33rd Annual Nutrien Ag Solutions Topless 100 presented by Big River Steel. Sheppard dominated the racing in Group A, posting the fastest overall time, winning his heat race, and leading wire-to-wire to take the win in the first 25-lap main event, earning $5,000. Chris Madden finished second, with Hudson O'Neal, Devin Moran, and Dale McDowell rounding out the top five. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season and for the 35th time in his career, the driver from New Berlin, Illinois, will be looking for his first Topless 100 victory tomorrow night. "I have always liked this place. You know, it's a little ways from home, so I didn't get to come here very often over the years. The crew has been trying to make me comfortable and find the balance I'm looking for. I knew we'd get there, and I also knew it would take some time. Since we brought it out, it's been lights out. Of course, we can still miss the setup or make a mistake with the tires or whatever the case may be, but this car has been really good ever since we broke it out. I am super proud to be part of this team and proud to be part of the Rocket family." Madden, the 2019 winner of the Topless 100 while driving for Scott Bloomquist, finished second to Sheppard in his Kale Green-owned entry. "We made a few adjustments right there before that feature; we're stuck too hard. We just went overboard on that balance, but we'll get it back for tomorrow. We feel good about what we have here. 100 laps is a long time around this place, so you've got to keep some tires on it, and you've got to be there at the end." O'Neal, who had to deal with a flat tire while running second in his heat race, came from seventh to finish on the Big River Steel Podium in the first 25-lapper. "It was interesting, that's for sure. We were fortunate to start at the bottom and be able to pick off a few cars there early on. After having a flat in the heat race like we did, we're happy to rebound and come back up through the field to make it onto the podium. We are excited about tomorrow. I think over 100 laps, the track is going to slow down a bit more, and I felt really good right there. It just got narrow on that bottom lane. I hope for 100 laps it widens out so we can race all over the track," said the 2021 winner of the event. The winner's Mark Richards Racing, Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Franklin Enterprises, Petroff Towing, Gunter's Honey, Ace Metal Works, Sunoco Race Fuels, Collins Brothers Towing, Stiles Marine and Maintenance, Performance Grading, Fox Shocks, and Rocket Pre-Owned Motors. Completing the top ten in the first feature were Mike Marlar, Joseph Joiner, Donald McIntosh, Jared Landers, and Daniel Hilsabeck. The second feature didn't end well for several drivers, as Jimmy Owens led the first four laps until Cade Dillard moved into the lead on lap five. A caution after a lap seven restart saw Dillard and Garrett Alberson get together after Alberson took over the lead from Dillard heading out of turn two, almost flipping his car as the incident eliminated both drivers. Owens then went back to the race lead as he led until lap 14, when he suffered a right rear flat tire. Davenport then took the top spot and kept it until the finish. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 90th time in his career, and for the seventh time this season, Davenport will be aiming for his second career Topless 100 win on Saturday night. "It's always good to win here for my car owners. We created a special paint scheme for my good buddy and our partner, Steve Martin, with Nutrien Ag Solutions. It's just a little something different for them; they help with this event and have been a big stepping stone in my career. They have definitely helped me and Lance Landers Motorsports a lot. I wasn't sure if leading was the right spot to be in. I am thankful for my guys—we've been on the road for six weeks. We came back to the shop, and they completely rebuilt two or three race cars, then worked on Jared's (Landers) car as well." Thornton, who is seeking his first career win in the Topless 100 on Saturday night, finished second in the nightcap feature. "I definitely didn't have anything for Jonathan during that last restart. I told my guys afterward that I wasn't even going to try to race JD; I'm just glad Garrett and everyone else is okay after that wreck on the back straightaway. I feel like you're going so fast here that a small mistake could cost you. We've got a lot to do to catch the Rocket1." Harris, who was as high as second, saw a late-race caution derail his hopes of passing Davenport, who was nearing traffic with three laps remaining. Harris finished on the Big River Steel Podium in the second feature race after passing him in the closing laps. "I thought our night was going downhill early on; we fell behind in qualifying. I kind of messed up some things on the car to upset it, but we came from 16th to second and then third, so I am happy with it." The winner's Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, DynaGro Seed, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten in the second feature were Kyle Beard, Jimmy Owens, Brandon Overton, Daulton Wilson, and Haiden Cowan.
