- Dominic Scelzi wins SCCT Speedweek finale/ Max Mittry edges Kinzer Cox for title
Elma, Washington…Fresno's Dominic Scelzi charged from the ninth starting spot to claim victory during the SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek finale on Sunday night at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. When all was said and done after eight races in 10 days, Redding's Max Mittry topped Oregon racer Kinzer Cox by just two points to win the $4,000 Speedweek championship. Mittry put together a consistent week of racing with top 10 finishes in all but two events, earning the biggest moment of his Sprint Car career. "This is really a special feeling to win the SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek title," Mittry commented after the race. "It was a lot of fun racing with Kinzer Cox all week and for it to come down to just a couple points was pretty exciting. I want to thank everybody that helps on this car." The 30-lap Speedweek finale began with Mittry jumping out front at the waving of the green flag. Fans were treated to some intriguing high-speed action at the Grays Harbor Raceway on this night. El Paso, Texas driver Aydan Saunders paced Mittry over the early stages before closing in, making it a battle for the top spot. Both drivers pulled away from the field and raced closely together for numerous laps, before Saunders took command on lap 20. Dominic Scelzi was also on the move however and showed his muscle taking over third on lap 15. The top three then bunched up in thrilling fashion on lap 20 and saw Scelzi scoot to second with 21 circuits complete. One lap later Scelzi rocketed to the lead and pulled away from the pack to record his 12th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory. It marked his second triumph of SCCT Speedweek, after also winning on Tuesday at Coos Bay Speedway. The battle for the Speedweek title came right down to the closing laps with Mittry finishing second and Cox coming home in third during the main event. Both drivers must be commended for putting on a fantastic championship fight. The two came into the final Shop Kyle Larson A-main tied for the point lead and both did an exceptional job in the 30-lapper. Skagit 360 Nationals winner Trey Starks earned the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award by driving his way from 14th to fourth with Saunders completing the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Jesse Schlotfeldt, Seth Standley, Tyler Thompson, Austin Wood and Kelly Miller. A total of 22 cars were on hand to finish off SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek. Destry Miller claimed his first career SCCT Fast Time Award presented by Sierra Foothills Wine Services. The 16-year-old toured his home track in 13.308 seconds. - Hebing Tames Highbanks of Woodhull Raceway
By Curtis Berleue (Woodhull, NY) | Though only running a limited schedule in 2025, Chuck Hebing once again found his way to victory lane at the highbanks of the Woodhull Raceway on Saturday night. 'The Cobra' added one more to his win total, breaking a tie for third with Lance Yonge on the all-time Empire Super Sprints feature win list with his 40th victory. Jason Barney drew the Pinnacle Pole Award and thus led the field to green alongside of Hebing. Hebing used his outside starting position to his advantage, and immediately opened lead over Shawn Donath and Barney. As the laps clicked off, Hebing, Donath and Barney began to separate themselves from the rest of the field. By lap 10, Hebing had reached the back of the field, beginning to navigate lap traffic. Behind Hebing and Donath, Barney, Davie Franek and Jordan Poirier were having a spirited battle for the final podium spot, with Poirier emerging with possession of third place on lap 15. For the second straight night, a non-stop feature with a total run time of less than 7 minutes took place, and ultimately Donath nor Poirier had anything for Hebing as he picked up the win. "Woodhull has been awful good to me over the years," said Hebing in victory lane. "The moisture they put on it made it kinda locked down, but it awas good." "I wanted to retire again, so this is a good way to do it. We had a good career, we'll do some boating now." Shawn Donath picked up a second place finish. "These guys gave me a heck of a racecar," said Donath. "I didn't think anyone was going to try the bottom, but with the conditions they were dealt today, they did a great job with the track." Jordan Poirier finished third, rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium. "We're pretty happy with third, we have struggled here in the past," said Poirier. "We started sixth which is pretty deep, I didn't know how much the track was going to widen out with the water they put on it before the feature but it was actually super racey." With the threat of rain all night, the field was split into two timed hot lap groups with Dylan Swiernik and Jared Zimbardi earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins went to Dylan Swiernik and Davie Franek, and Trevor Years won the Cobra Motorhomes & Trailers dash presented by Grimes Dairy Equipment. - Franek Wins Empire Super Sprints Outlaw Summer Nationals
By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | For the second time in two years, Davie Franek picked up a $4,000 victory at the Outlaw Speedway on Friday night. Last years Outlaw Fall Nationals winner once again found victory lane at the Dundee oval, this time leading every lap in a non-stop feature in the Outlaw Summer Nationals worth $4,000. By virtue of drawing the Pinnacle Pole award, Joe Trenca and Davie Franek led the field to green. As the field reached turn one, it was Franek with the advantage. Behind Franek, Jordan Poirier made quick work of the four cars in front of him, moving from his sixth place starting spot into second behind Franek. Dalton Rombough followed in third. Two laps later, Rombough was able to sneak by Poirier to take second. The lead duo would remain the same for the next several laps, all working the high side of the speedway. Behind the leaders, Dylan Swiernik was putting in work, making his way through the field from his eleventh starting spot. Without a caution to slow the pace, Swiernik had made it into the top three on lap 19, but the lead duo of Franek and Rombough remained unchanged, and Franek took the checkers first in a green-to-checkers run of the A-Main that totaled just six minutes and forty seconds in length. "The track was great," said Franek in victory lane. "We didn't qualify that good, in the heat race we changed some things and then we really didn't do that much for the feature." "To be honest, we've been struggling the last month with the new tires, we've kind of got a balance now though and I feel like we will be pretty good from here on out." Dalton Rombough came home second. "The car was really good, I just couldn't get through lap traffic like him (Franek)," said Rombough. I struggled on the bottom, and I feel like if we could get a little better there we would be in the winners circle." Rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third was Dylan Swiernik. "Without having a caution, to come up there to third was good," said Swiernik. "To come from tenth or eleventh, wherever we came from, we'll take it. I think this is our fifth or sixth straight top three finish so we're on a roll right now, just trying to keep the momentum going." 20 cars signed into the pits Friday night, splitting the field into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Jordan Thomas, Shawn Donath and Dylan Swiernik, while Joe Trenca, Davie Franek and Dylan Swiernik picked up Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins. The Cobra Motorhomes & Trailers Dash presented by Lanes Yamaha was won by Keith Granholm. - Stambaugh Notches 8th GLSS Win, Opens Championship Lead Heading to Final Month
Crystal, MI - When the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP entered the weekend, Max Stambaugh and Jared Horstman were separated by roughly a dozen points for the GLSS Tour Championship. In the MacAllister CAT Division, Horstman held an over 100 point advantage for the Championship prior to Friday's race at I-96 Speedway. Now, after Saturday's race at Crystal Motor Speedway, the battles for Championship honors continue to peak interest. Ryan Turner, who set a new track record in qualifying earlier in the day, led the field to green alongside Stambaugh. Turner kept even with Stambaugh on the bottom of the track for the opening two rotations before Stambaugh's No.71H began clicking off big laps around the cushion. Behind him, Dustin Daggett and Keith Sheffer, Jr were on the move through traffic. Starting just outside the redraw, Daggett's No.85 rolled off 8th and was quickly into the top five along with Sheffer who started sixth. They raced nose-to-tail around Turner, Devon Dobie, and Jared Horstman. The race set a rapid pace, going green to checkered in just six minutes and 19 seconds. Stambaugh navigated lapped traffic flawlessly and fending off advances from Turner before his No.15 fell to Daggett in the closing laps. "You know, it just played out great," Stambaugh said in victory lane. "Rachel did a good job in the redraw and you know you get yourself here and set sail a little bit. Track was dicy, getting through traffic, I'm sure Daggett might have been closing there. I didn't want to get too careful but I didn't want to go too hard. This win tonight goes out to Anthony [Boyd] (GLSS Scorer). He's been around since 2016 and he just lost his mom, so you hate to lose a loved one, but this one goes to him." After the win, Stambaugh now holds a 65 point advantage on Horstman for the GLSS Tour Championship and moves into second, 70 points behind Horstman for the MacAllister CAT Division Championship. Stambaugh also holds a 135 point lead in the Ohio CAT Division Championship. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints will be the conclusion of the Ohio CAT Division season at Eldora Speedway on Saturday, August 2nd. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action on FloRacing. Ryan Turner earned the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Devon Dobie won Engler Machine & Tool Heat One. Jared Horstman won Beacon and Bridge Markets Heat Two. Keith Sheffer, Jr won Miami Paint Heat Three. Skyler Evans won the B-Main and was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger. - Jackson, Sheets split USRA B-Mod Twin 20s on Lucas Oil Speedway's Fan Appreciation Night
WHEATLAND, MO. (July 26, 2025) - Kris Jackson of Lebanon had a rough finish to the opening half of Lucas Oil Speedway's unique Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod Twin 20s on Saturday night, but turned misfortune into a trip to victory lane. Taking advantage of a full-field invert after finishing 24th and last in the opener, Jackson led all the way to win the second 20-lapper after Jon Sheets of Nevada won the opener in a thriller. As 104 cars checked into the pits on Mickey Fleehart Memorial Fan Appreciation Night, other feature winners were: Robbe Ewing (Hermitage Lumber Late Models), Cole Campbell (Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modifieds), Kenny Carroll (Hickamo Super Stocks) and Chad Eickleberry (Show-Me Vintage Racers). Jackson spun and hit a tractor tire guarding the infield in turn two with five laps to go in the first feature. He said it left the car damaged and, after making a couple of laps, he pulled off to await a fresh start in the second race. When fans voted to invert the entire field, it put Jackson up front. He car was good enough to lead all 20 laps as he beat Dawson David, who also started on the front row after he was 23rd in the first feature. "I was just trying too hard in the first one," Jackson said, noting that he and Colson Kirk got together battling for position, leading to his spin and contact with the tractor tire. "This thing drives like a square-body truck after hitting that tire. I had a lot of play in the wheel and it wasn't fun to drive, but I had enough track that it was OK." Jackson earned $1,000 for his second Pitts Homes and Realty Weekly Racing Series win of the season. Sheets made a late pass to win the first 20-lapper, overtaking JC Morton with two laps to go. While that win was worth $1,000 to Sheets, it didn't do him any good for the second feature as fans voted during a 10-minute break to invert the entire finishing order. "We can't get any worse than last year," Sheets said during the break. "We won the first feature and we wrecked out on the first lap of the second one. So if we finish, we'll be ahead of the game." Sheets added that if he was sitting in the stands, he would have voted for the full-field invert as well. Jackson set the pace as action resumed, opening a one-second lead over David that held steady over the first 10 laps. Of the high finishers in the opener, J.T. Carroll was running 13th by the midpoint with Morton 18th and Sheets 22nd. With laps quickly clicking by as the raced remained caution-free, Jackson couldn't shake clear of David as Casey Thomas ran nearly three seconds behind in third. The first caution didn't appear until lap 16, with Jackson leading David by .778 seconds. Jackson had a good restart and held on over the final four laps to pick up the win, beating David by 1.4 seconds at the checkers. Thomas finished third with Trevor Drake fourth and Chad Clancy, who started 14th, taking fifth. Carroll wound up 12th, Morton was 13th and Sheets, after scraping the wall early in the race in traffic, wound up 20th. "That's a case of a full-field invert. Nothing that anybody did wrong," Sheets said. "You just get so bottle-necked right there in the middle that you've got guys dicing and changing lanes and I didn't see the lane change coming." Morton took command at the start of the opener with Kirk and Carroll battling behind him. As those two swapped second, Morton built a 1.1-second lead by lap 10. Morton was two seconds clear when caution flew on lap 16 when Kris Jackson spun while running fifth. Sheets took advantage of the restart by hopping to the high groove and passing Morton for the lead on lap 18. They were running side by side taking the white flag, with Sheets .159 in front at the start-finish line, when another caution came out. Sheets took the one-lap sprint for the win, his fourth of the season, beating Morton by a half-second. Andy Bryant was third and Carroll fourth. Ewing scores first Late Model win: Robbe Ewing broke through for his first Hermitage Lumber Late Model victory after four second-place runs this season. The Stockton driver and points leader outran the field by more than six seconds to win the 20-lap feature. Ewing said running up front in a B-Mod B feature in the race prior to the Late Model feature was beneficial. He hugged the bottom groove while leading all 20 laps. "You never want to be in a B-Main, but I think it kind of showed me where I needed to be on the track," Ewing said. "It wasn't that fast around the middle or top." Ewing beat Jim Greenway to the lead into turn one as the race began and he quickly opened a 1.5-second lead just five laps into the race. By one lap shy of the halfway point on lap nine he was turning into a runaway, leading second-place Alan Westling by 4.7 seconds when caution flew for debris on the track. It was more of the same after the restart. Ewing opened a 4.2-second command by lap 15 and it was clear sailing as the race remained under green. Ewing finished a straightaway's margin in front of Greenway with Westling third Dylan Hoover and JC Morton following. Greenway, however, was disqualified in post-race tech inspection, elevating those behind him a position. USRA Modifieds win to Campbell: Long-time B-Mod competitor Cole Campbell of Mexico, Mo., posted his first Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modified feature win, pacing all 20 laps to hold off Jason Pursley. Campbell started on the pole and took he lead out of turn four on the opening lap Chase Sigg and season points leader Nic Bidinger following. Campbell had a one-second lead when the first caution appeared on lap four. Bidinger moved into second by lap five with Jason Pursley into third as Campbell continued to set the pace. A lap-12 caution slowed the action and wiped out Campbell's 2.1-second lead over Pursley. Pursley challenged Campbell for the lead during two more restarts, with Campbell using the high side to hold the lead. Campbell rolled from there as the final five laps remained green and beat Pursley by 1.6 seconds. Ryan Middaugh charged from 15th to third with Bidinger fourth and Dayton Pursley fifth. "It feels great. I'm about in tears," Campbell said in victory lane. "I've been wanting to win here for a long time and to do it in an A Mod makes it even better." Carroll earns Super Stocks win: Kenny Carroll of Camdenton overcame numerous late restarts to capture his third Hickamo Super Stocks feature victory of the season, holding off Tim Brown and Josh Jones. Carroll and fellow front-row starter Jones ran 1-2 in the early going, opening a two-second gap on third-place Frank Escamilla by lap five. That's when caution appeared and bunched up the field. Carroll had an excellent restart and was able to open a 1.8-second lead over Jones by lap eight with Gary Clark moving into third. Carroll was ahead by 1.6 seconds when a lap-12 caution slowed the action. Ninth-starting Brown advanced into the top three after the restart again, as it appeared Carroll was taking command, another caution flew on lap 16. Carroll was able to take it to the finish from there, finishing .890 seconds in front of Brown with Jones third. "It was a real good night for us," Carroll said, noting that his son, J.T., got the car prepped in the shop this week. As for the late going, Carroll said the restarts tested his patience. "I got to tell you, me and the good Lord had a real good conversation that last five or six laps," Carroll said. "I've got to give it all to Him tonight. I usually can't do that without screwing up and I don't think I bobbled any of that." Tony Anglin settled for fourth with Will Smart in fifth. Eickleberry prevails in Show-Me Vintage Racers: Chad Eickleberry of Warrensburg, driving a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle, led the final 14 laps to dominate the Show-Me Vintage Racers feature as the series was a special guest class. Fifth-starting Eickleberry grabbed the lead away from Owen Evinger on lap two and had a four-second command by lap seven in the 15-lap Show-Me Vintage Racers feature. Eickleberry had a five-second lead when caution flew on lap 10. Just after the restart, the race was red-flagged after Ed Neil took a hard hit coming out of turn two. After a lengthy delay and another caution, Eickleberry eventually completed the win. Evinger held off Bob Werkmeister for second, 2.5 seconds behind the winner. Jim Thorne was fourth and Mickie Cook fifth. "Thank you guys for all coming out and supporting us through all this heat," Eickleberry said. "I'll tell you, it was cooking in the cars tonight." The evening was named in honor of Fleehart, the former president of the SMVR and long-time driver in the series. Fleehart passed away in 2023. - KALEB MONTGOMERY WINS FIRST NARC FEATURE AT SANTA MARIA
(7/26/25 - Andrew Kunas) Santa Maria, CA ... It was a long time coming for him, but Kaleb Montgomery is finally a NARC King of the West feature winner. Montgomery took the checkered flag in Saturday's 30-lap NARC event at his home track, Santa Maria Speedway Montgomery, who lives just up the road in Templeton, led the entire way, but multiple times had to deal with slower cars while also at times fending off a determined Ryan Bernal, who pursued him throughout. Montgomery also survived contact with the front stretch wall early in the race and contact also with a slower car but overcame it all to pick up his first winged 410 sprint car victory aboard the Luxon Real Estate-sponsored Montgomery Racing No. 3 Speedway-powered Maxim. To a roar of approval from the capacity crowd on hand, Montgomery did several donuts on the track in Turn 4 and then climbed atop his car on the front stretch to celebrate, this coming a year after he ran second in NARC's Santa Maria event. "I'm just speechless," said Montgomery in victory lane. "It's been a long time coming. It feels good to get a win." Montgomery earned an extra $300 from METTEC Titanium for leading every lap also. Santa Maria Speedway was good to Montgomery this season, as he won a USAC/CRA feature at Santa Maria earlier for his first non-wing triumph with a 410 motor. Just months later, he got his first 410 win with the wings on. Bernal ran second throughout the 30-lap race but also had to fight off Landon Brooks, who earlier set a new track record in qualifying. Bernal also caught up to Montgomery in traffic at times, but couldn't make anything work and settled for a runner-up finish aboard the NOS Energy-sponsored Josh Ford Motorsports No. 73 1Way-powered Triple X. Brooks completed the podium aboard the Lipper Construction-sponsored Bates-Hamilton Racing No. 21L Kistler-powered Maxim. Sean Becker, after starting seventh, ran in the Top 10 throughout and eventually finished fourth in the D&J Construction Rental-sponsored Bjork Construction No. 7b Shaver-powered Maxim. Caeden Steele ran fifth in the Tarlton & Son-sponsored BCCR No. 121 Kistler-powered Maxim. Bud Kaeding earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger Award, advancing ten positions to finish sixth, this coming after not finishing his heat race earlier in the evening. Tyler Thompson, Dominic Gorden, Gauge Garcia and Danny Faria Jr rounded out the Top 10. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Montgomery and Bernal. Brooks set the pace in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 11.241 seconds, breaking the 21-year-old track record previously held by National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brent Kaeding. Montgomery won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash over Bernal to secure the pole position for the feature.
