- Fast start falls short for Arenz at Road Challenge, IRA road trip on tap
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 25, 2025 - Still riding the wave of his remarkable upset victory in a High Limit Racing national tour series event at 141 Speedway on June 5, it was a matter of so close, yet so far away in the Road America Challenge Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 21. The 18th-year racer enjoyed a great start to the night by qualifying a stout fourth in the 25-car field with a lap of 12.050 seconds around the third-mile semi-banked red clay oval. After finishing second in the first eight-lap IRA heat race, Arenz advanced to his seventh IRA dash appearance in eight tries in 2025. After making a huge outside move on the opening lap of the first four-lap dash, Arenz advanced from fifth to second to earn the fourth starting position in the 30-lap Road America Challenge main event. The 2021 and 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car champion got off to a strong start in A-main action before engaging in a battle for second with Jake Neuman. After moving past Neumann on Lap 17, the 2013 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Outlaw Compact four-cylinder track champion tracked down leader Kelby Watt heading into the closing stages of the race. Arenz surged ahead to lead lap 24 before Watt battled back along the outside groove. On lap 25, Watt attempted to squeeze past Arenz next to the backstretch wall. However, the two drivers made contact before Watt cut down the track in turn three to seize the lead. Meanwhile, Arenz slowed to a stop on the following lap with a flat right rear tire resulting from the collision with Watt. After making a tire change in the work area, Arenz returned at the rear of the lead lap before moving up to secure a 15th-place showing at the finish line. "I was very happy to be able to put down a good lap in qualifying," Arenz said. "The heat race went well and I moved forward in the dash. Unfortunately, come feature time, there was a racing incident that caused a caution and cut down my right rear tire after taking over the lead position. We were able to get it changed and with five laps to go, and I was able to drive from the back of the field to get a few spots back." The team is preparing to head out on the road with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Sprint Car Series this Friday, June 27 at Bloomington Speedway in Bloomington, Ind. and Saturday, June 28 at Butler Speedway in Quincy, Mich. At Bloomington Speedway on Friday night, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Super Stocks are also on the card. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 5 p.m., hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. on the quarter-mile high-banked red clay oval. On Saturday night at three-eighths high-banked Butler Motor Speedway dirt oval, UMP Modifieds and Four Cylinders will also be featured with pit gates opening at 3 p.m., followed by spectator gates at 4 p.m., hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. The races will mark Arenz's first career appearance at both tracks. "I always like to take on new tracks," Arenz said. "I see it as a challenge to test my knowledge and skill. We will do what we do every night - watch the track, watch other drivers on the track, make smart choices and be smooth and consistent." - Hartmann shifts focus, eyes Cedar Lake Outlaws doubleheader
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 25, 2025 - A night that started with promise ended prematurely with more motor woes for Austin Hartmann and the members of the 87A Hartmann Racing Team at the Road America Challenge Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 21. The fifth-year Sprint Car competitor fired off the evening with a solid seventh-place effort in the 25-car qualifying field with a lap of 12.158 seconds. Following a fourth-place finish in the first eight-lap IRA heat race, Hartmann earned his third IRA dash appearance of the 2025 campaign. After rolling off third in the first dash, Hartmann placed fifth to earn the 10th starting spot in the 30-lap IRA headliner. However, Hartmann's A-main run proved to be short lived as he dropped out of the race on lap 3 with motor issues. He received credit for a 25th-place finish. In a season-plagued by engine problems, Hartmann will veer off the IRA tour this weekend in favor of a different destination. "It's just been one of those years with all of the motor problems," Hartmann said. "We have a fresh bullet going in for the doubleheader coming up this weekend with the Outlaws at Cedar Lake." The team is now set to head to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. for a two-night stand with the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28. (PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 24, 2025 - Competing with the team's 360 Sprint Car against a field of 410 Sprint Cars with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association, Paul Pokorski turned in a solid effort in a guest driving role during the Road America Challenge at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wi. on Saturday, June 21. With his son, Alex, attending a wedding, Paul filled in behind the wheel of the No. 4 Alex Pokorski-Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car in IRA competition to mark his 33rd consecutive season in the driver's seat of an open-wheel race car. Paul opened the night by qualifying 24th in the 25-car field with a lap of 13.629 seconds around the 75-year-old semi-banked third-mile clay oval. The West Bend, Wis. competitor finished eighth in the third eight-lap IRA heat race to earn the 24th starting spot in the evening's 30-lap main event. The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion drove a steady race and endured a pair of caution flags and one red flag period to advance five positions on the way to a 19th-place showing in the team's eighth IRA event of the 2025 campaign. "The goal for the night was to support the IRA, and have some fun," Pokorski said. "I'd say we did that. The night went better than expected. The bonus was I got to get a feel for the car and what it feels like when it's set up the way Alex likes to run it. I'd have to say it felt pretty good, but there are a few minor details that we will work on that I didn't like. We will go over it in the shop this week. We're looking forward to having Alex back next week at PDTR with the MSA." - Poirier Doubles Up On Weekend, Wins at Cornwall
By Curtis Berleue (Cornwall, ONT) | For the second time in as many nights, Jordan Poirier found himself in Empire Super Sprints victory lane on Sunday at Cornwall. Having now won 3 out of 5 contested ESS A-Mains, Poirier picked up $2,000 for his efforts on a Sunday night close to his hometown. Drawing the Pinnacle Pole Award was Davie Franek, who consequently led the field to green for the 25 lap main event. Franek jumped out to an early lead over 3rd-starting Joe Trenca and Bryan Cloutier. As the laps clicked away, Franek maintained his lead over the field. Behind him, Poirier was slowly but surely moving forward from his fourth starting spot. By lap 9, he had moved into sole possession of third, and just two laps later stole second, setting his sights on Franek. As the field closed in on 10 laps to go, Poirier closed in on Franek. By lap 17, Poirier had gotten by Franek and never looked back, picking up his third win of 2025. "I was really, really bad at the beginning of the feature," said Poirier. "I was so tight, I knew the top was going to come in at some point it was just a matter of at what point it would because the bottom was slicking off pretty quickly." "When Jason passed me, I thought I might have lost that spot at the beginning of the feature. But yeah, it feels good (to win), the car was great and such an awesome crowd here." For the second night in a row, Jason Barney finished second. "It was nice. That's three races in a row behind the 28," said Barney. I hate getting used to that, but he's doing a good job." "Starting tenth, I was just hoping to maintain to be honest, we caught a few breaks on the restarts, being in the right place at the right time. My car wasn't perfect to start, so that really helped." Rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third was Logan Crisafulli. "Yeah, it was definitely hard. I thought I got Davie (for third) coming to the white, but everyone's telling me it was coming to the checkers." 20 cars signed in for the second night of the Canadian swing for the Empire Super Sprints, splitting the field into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Alex Therrien, Jordan Poirier and Logan Crisafulli, while Elab Smokers Boutique heats were won by Davie Franek, Jordan Poirier and Logan Crisafulli. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is the annual Central NY Speedweek. Paying $2,500 to win each night, the week gets started on Wednesday July 2 at the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville. Thursday will see a visit at the Utica-Rome Speedway, followed by Friday at Brewerton and Saturday at Fulton. The week caps off with the finale on Sunday July 6 at the Weedsport Speedway. - Brett is King!
Maribel, WI - Brett Swedberg put it all on the line when he made a move to the outside of Nick Anvelink as they raced into turn three as they worked through the tail end of the field with just four laps to go in the crown jewel of the 2025 WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour, The Diamond 47 at 141 Speedway. Swedberg took the lead, with Anvelink trailing by .370 seconds. Swedberg had a clear track in front of him and was able to maintain his lead and increasing his advantage over Anvelink. Swedberg went on to finish .632 seconds ahead of Anvelink, to secure his fourth WABAM Dirt Kings Late Model Tour victory in The Diamond 47. Swedberg was crowned King in BMRE Electrick Carts Victory Lane, taking home a check for $4700 and adding his name of the list of The Diamond winners. The first 43 laps of The Diamond 47 were all Anvelink, who was the Ken's Sports Pole Sitter after winning his heat race and drawing the pole for the race. Anvelink took the lead from the start while Troy Springborn and Swedberg battled for second, with Springborn challenging Anvelink for the lead on lap three, after caution slowed the field. Anvelink maintained his lead, stretching out 2.365 seconds over Springborn, who continued to battle with Swedberg and Joel Bennett for second. Caution slowed the field on lap twelve for debris, allowing Swedberg to move to second on the restart. Swedberg followed Anvelink, holding off challenges from Taylor Scheffler over the course of a couple of restarts, before finally getting a long green flag run with 18 laps to go. Anvelink maintained his advantage and with a clear track ahead of him, stretched out his lead over Swedberg and the real battle was for third with Springborn, Scheffler and Gunner Frank and great three wide racing throughout the field. With ten laps to go, Swedberg started to close in on Anvelink as they approached the tail end of the field. Anvelink preferred the inside of the track, while Swedberg ran the outside. With the tail end of the field racing for position, Anvelink and Swedberg maintained their respective lines and with four laps to go, Swedberg made his move, the Autoworx Clean Move of the Race, to win The Diamond 47. Anvelink finished second, followed by Frank, Scheffler, and Springborn. Justin Ritchie finished sixth followed by Cole Czarneski, who earned an additional $107, sponsored by Larry Mc Reds, Diamond Jim Letizia's longtime Crew Chief, Brad Mueller, Mike Mullen and Jake Redetzke. - FARNHAM CLAIMS CUNNINGHAM MEMORIAL AT MERRITVILLE
THOROLD, Ont. (June 21, 2025) - Merrittville Speedway welcomed the Southern Ontario Sprints series back to the track on Saturday night for the Gary Cunningham Memorial. Matt Farnham found victory lane after an entertaining race. Baily Heard started on the pole with Mike Bowman on his outside to start the 25 lap A-Main. Heard led the first eight laps with Farnham and Bowman in hot pursuit. Farnham's bid for the lead allowed Bowman to follow him through, and Heard then fell into the clutches of DJ Christie. Christie was on the charge and got past Heard on lap 17, but a courageous move on Bowman for second did not work out. Christie spun and brought out the yellow flag, creating a dash to the finish. Farnham looked to have the race in hand, but a spinning car with four laps to go almost spelled disaster for the Western New York driver. Farnham was able to avoid a collision and stayed up front to take the win by 0.940 seconds. Bowman took the runner-up spot, followed by Heard, fifth row starter Josh Hansen, and championship points leader Darren Dryden. Farnham also claimed the Ackland Insurance Quick Time Award, while Jacob Dykstra was The Drivers Project Hard Charger Award winner. Next on the SOS schedule is a doubleheader weekend with $5,000-to-win Gold Crown Super Series events on Friday, June 27 at Ohsweken Speedway and Saturday, June 28 at Brighton Speedway.
