- Justyn Cox strikes for first Placerville Speedway win of season on Red Hawk Casino Night
Placerville, CA…Clarksburg's Justyn Cox, Oakley's Nick Baldwin, Auburn's Ray Trimble and Lotus' Shawn Whitney snagged Placerville Speedway victories on Saturday during Red Hawk Resort + Casino Night. Cox ended up leading flag to flag in the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car finale aboard the Berco Redwood No. 42x mount. It marked his initial triumph of the season, and the 13th of his Placerville Speedway Winged 360 career, giving him sole possession of 14th all-time. Extra money was on the line for the top three finishers in the race in memory of Don London, who we paid tribute to in opening ceremonies. The 25-lap Winged Sprint Car finale took a total of five attempts to complete one lap. When things finally got going, Cox moved out front and scooted away, while the action behind him turned out to be particularly entertaining. Several drivers fought it out including championship contender Tony Gomes, who did exactly what he needed to do in the battle for the title. The Modesto competitor moved into third on lap 13 and then snagged second a few laps from the finish. The runner up result gives Gomes a three-point lead atop the standings heading into the Forni-Humphreys Classic championship finale on September 13th. Placerville's Shane Hopkins motored his way from 12th to third to earn the Hard Charger Award, with Auburn's Andy Forsberg and Sacramento's Austin Wood rounding out the top five. It was a marvelous rebound for Wood, who went to the rear at one point after being in a turn four collision. His charge back forward keeps him just three markers behind Gomes going into the finale. Completing the top 10 in the feature were Cole Schroeder, Dylan Bloomfield, Chance Grasty, Kenny Wanderstadt and Steel Powell. The Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stock feature saw Placerville's Tyler Lightfoot jump out front and set a quick pace over the early stages. Point leader Nick Baldwin carved his way into second after not too long and began to hound the leader. Lightfoot had captured the Carnett Clash during the previous week and looked to fend off Baldwin to make it back-to-back wins in the division. With just a handful of laps remaining however, Lightfoot slowed with issues down the back stretch. Baldwin had nowhere to go and contacted the rear of the No. 23j machine but was able to continue. Following that the six-time Placerville Speedway champion cruised away to collect his 38th career Pure Stock win, putting him one shy of tying Dan Jinkerson. Kevin Jinkerson, Ryan Peter, Michael Murphy and Colton Arbogast finished second through fifth respectively. The Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association put on a tremendous show in the main event, during what could be described as an instant classic. Multiple different leaders and side-by-side racing was prevalent during the 20-lapper. Shawn Whitney moved out front at the waving of the Ed Entz green flag, with the action behind him as hot as the blistering summer weather during the day. Several movers and shakers were seen as positions changed regularly. Lincoln's Dylan Shrum then marched to the front with he and Whitney putting on a show for the fans on hand. The pair split a lapped car with eight laps remaining, but Whitney got sideways and stalled to draw a caution. After restarting at the tail Whitney proceeded to blast all the way back to the front and challenge Shrum over the final circuits. The thrilling finish saw Whitney beat out Shrum by 0.002 seconds at the scoring loop. Ben Wiesz, Brenden Shrum and Brandon Aylesworth completed the top five. The Dwarf Cars also went home with extra money in memory of Don London. The Kings Meats Ltd. Late Model main event was all about Ray Trimble, who snagged the win over Tyler Lightfoot, Chris Mcginnis and Rod Oliver. Placerville Speedway returns to action this coming Saturday with the 49er Gold Rush Classic featuring Kubota High Limit Racing and BCRA Lightning Sprints. - On Cloud Nine! Stambaugh Earns Ninth GLSS Win Saturday at Silver Bullet
Owendale, MI - In 2017, on his way to his first career Great Lakes Super Sprints Championship, Jared Horstman collected a record 11 feature wins. After Saturday night's event with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, Stambaugh is now within two wins of the record. Alex Clute and Phil Gressman led the field to the green flag ahead of 25 laps on Saturday night. Gressman jumped out to the early lead as Stambaugh and Mike Keegan hustled three wide around Clute. On lap 11 in heavy lapped traffic, Stambaugh found the outside of the race track which had been bottom-dominant all night long. Stambaugh ripped around Gressman down the backstretch before setting sail out front. Meanwhile, the rest of the top five were bumper-to-bumper trying to gain position. Gressman, Keegan, and Dustin Daggett negotiated the terms for the final rung of the podium amid thick lapped traffic. With less than five laps to go, Daggett moved into the second spot while Gressman held off Keegan and a charging Jared Horstman. At the finish, Max Stambaugh collected his ninth win of the season ahead of Daggett, Gressman, Keegan, and Horstman. With the win, Stambaugh moves into second on the all-time Great Lakes Super Sprints wins list with 27. He trails Horstman who has 31. Stambaugh extends his lead in the Tour Championship standings and closes in on Horstman for the MacAllister CAT Division with just four races remaining in Michigan and six on the Tour. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints is Friday, August 15th at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan before going to Butler Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. - Pierce Makes History in 43rd Sunoco North/South 100 at Florence
WALTON, KENTUCKY (August 9, 2025) - Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Illinois, moved from the 14th starting spot to win the 43rd Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil on Saturday night at Florence Speedway. Pierce earned $75,000 for the victory. In the process, Pierce became the first driver in the history of the event to win three years in a row, as he also became the first driver to win four North/South 100s in his career. Pierce and Jonathan Davenport had a spirited battle for the lead after a lap 52 caution that saw the two competitors get together several times before Pierce was able to pull away. Devin Moran got to second on lap 65 and had a shot at Pierce after a caution came out with eight laps to go, but Pierce was able to get a good restart and drive off for the win. Moran lost the second spot to Ricky Thornton Jr. on lap 98, and then on the final lap, Davenport was able to secure the last Big River Steel Podium spot as he also got Moran. Moran finished fourth, with Zack Dohm rounding out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 28th time in his career and for the fourth time this season, he earned a hard-fought win after starting on the outside of the seventh row. "I've been in this position before. I was in a bad mood because I didn't want to start that far back; you know, it's a lot harder that way. We were coming through the field, and I was worried about my tires. I was spinning really bad in some sections, but then in others, I was really hooked up. It was tough, and once I got to second, I was trying to win the race. I got the job done. I can't thank my team enough and everyone who helps me out. And thank you to the fans for coming out and watching." Pierce was asked in Victory Lane about his battle with Davenport after the lap-52 caution that saw the two drivers go back and forth for the lead, which also included contact between the two. "It was about halfway through the race, but you want to get the lead as quickly as you can because if the track transitions, you never know what could happen. Last year, here it went to the bottom, and it was really hard to run the top toward the end of the race. So I didn't want to give anyone that opportunity if I could take it. I was planning to take the lead and just hold on for the rest of the race. Sometimes, it's a lot easier to lead late in the race than to run in second, especially with a restart where you're double-file again. Yes, we raced hard—me and JD—and I know he was mad, but it's just hard racing here." Thornton, who got the runner-up spot, took home $25,000 for second and cut Davenport's point lead to five heading to Batesville, Arkansas, next weekend for the Topless 100. "I definitely felt like I was running as hard as I could there, and it just wasn't enough. Bobby's stuff was really good. I could barely see him in the last couple of laps, so we will go back to the drawing board and try to improve. The track was a little different than it usually is here; typically, the curb isn't that big—it's usually against the wall. But this time, it was about a car length off the wall. I feel like we have good speed, though not quite the great speed we had at the start of the year." Davenport, who was aiming for his third North/South 100 victory, led 60 of the 100 laps but finished in third place. "Obviously, he (Pierce) is always right, so I don't know how to throw sliders, and he does. I won't sit here and talk bad about him, because he's really good. We all know the top is going to be very competitive here at Florence, and I was just running my race and keeping my tires under me. I was planning to try and make a run back at him in the last 10 or 15 laps since I knew he was probably going to pass me and be gone, but that's just how this place races. I have a lot of damage, but I still managed to get back to third." The winner's Bobby Pierce Racing, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Churchill Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing and Repair, Rio Grande Waste Services, Pontiac RV, Steidinger Construction, Toyota of Danville, Ted Brown's Quality Paint and Body Shop, Fast 1 Speed Shop, Leka Tree Service, Floyd's Waste Services, VP Fuels, DuroMax Oil, and Bert by Budda. Completing the top ten were Jason Jameson, Hudson O'Neal, Brandon Overton, Cory Hedgecock, and Nick Hoffman. - Howl at the Moon! Chase Dunham Wins First Career GLSS Race Friday at Hartford Speedway
Hartford, MI - In a season that has seen Jared Horstman and Max Stambaugh combine for 14 feature wins, a first-time winner didn't seem to be in the cards. Friday night, with a full moon in the sky, the only thing that was going to keep Dunham for finding Victory Lane with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, was himself. Starting on the outside of the front row alongside veteran Van Gurley, Jr, Dunham jumped out to a quick lead and put distance between himself and the field in a hurry. That scenario has been done by the No.66 car before, and the end result hasn't been what he's been hoping for thus far. With just six laps on the board, Dunham was working to the inside of lapped traffic at the exit of turn number four when he made contact with the inside wall with his left front tire. Somehow, Dunham was able to continue and didn't lose much time to Gurley and Stambaugh. Another potential race-losing moment came inside of 10 laps to go when Dunham's car stepped completely sideways entering turn three behind a lapped car. Dunham was able to straighten the car out but not before Stambaugh cut the gap down to just four car lengths. With eight laps to go, the only caution of the race flew for Keith Sheffer, Jr, who caught the wall in turn three and slowed to a stop on the front stretch. The caution was a potential break for Dunham who was falling to the grips of Stambaugh in traffic. However, Dunham revealed in victory lane that the car was overheating throughout that entire race including under caution. On the restart, Dunham put the No.66 on the top of the race track and set sail, holding off Stambaugh and Jared Horstman, who found the final rung of the podium with a two-for-one deal on Van Gurley and Corbin Gurley in turn two. Dunham successfully navigated lapped traffic for the final five laps and went on to collect his first career GLSS win, his first win since 2021. "I think it's about damn time," Dunham said in victory lane. "We led a couple of weeks ago at I-96 Speedway, we've been up front, it just feels like a thousand pounds has been lifted off of me. There's been no pressure from my dad or any of our sponsors, just me. I tried to give it away. The motor probably isn't great, I looked under that caution and [the temperature gauge] was about pegged, and [dad] told me to keep going. It's just me and my dad this weekend, but this is pretty damn cool." The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP is Saturday, August 9th at Silver Bullet Speedway in Owendale, MI. Racing begins at 7:00 PM. Fans who can't make the trip can catch every lap on www.GreatLakesSprints.TV. Chase Dunham set the Ti22 Performance Fast Time with a 14.936. Jared Horstman won Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race One. Van Gurley, Jr won Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat Race Two. Max Stambaugh won Miami Paint Heat Race Three. Jett Mann was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger advancing eight positions. - Pierce and Moran Score Friday Night Wins at Florence
WALTON, KENTUCKY (August 8, 2025) - Bobby Pierce and Devin Moran each won a feature race during the Friday night session of the 43rd Annual Sunoco North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil at Florence Speedway, with both drivers earning $6,000 for their victories. Pierce took the lead from Jonathan Davenport in the first 25-lap race on the 15th circuit and maintained it for the win. Davenport finished second, followed by Brandon Overton, Brandon Sheppard, and Ricky Thornton, Jr. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season and the 27th time in his career, Pierce will attempt to make history Saturday night in the $75,000-to-win crown jewel race, as he tries to become the first driver to win the race, which began in 1984, three years in a row and four times overall - a feat never before achieved in the race's storied history. "It's very tough to lead at this track, especially around these corners. When they come up, you've got so many different lines to run, and JD really likes to run that middle line coming down. It was a great track; it had a bottom, middle, and top. It was tough in lapped traffic, and at one point, they were directly double-file in front of me. I kind of thought JD made the mistake of going low instead of high, but he got underneath those guys, and we almost went 4-wide. That's not a place you want to be, so I had to back out of it. The straightaways are so long, there's a lot of time to decide where they're going. You just have to look ahead and see where they're running - before you get to them, you already have that decision in your mind," said the Oakwood, Illinois native. Davenport, the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader and two-time North/South 100 winner, finished runner-up to Pierce in the first feature. "Obviously I can't see much out of the right side," as he talked about going four-wide in traffic off of turn four on lap 14. "I was coming down through here in the slime, trying to give everybody enough room outside of me. It was pretty wild there for a minute, but congratulations to Bobby. My guys worked today and last night trying to figure out our problem. We still had it in hot laps, and we went and changed one more thing, and that's what fixed it." Overton rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third in the first feature. "I'm honestly excited. Obviously, we're going to face a tough heat; there are no slouches here, and we'll probably start in the second row. We've had a good car both nights, you know. I was trying not to go too hard at the start, then Bobby passed us, and Daulton (Wilson) passed me, so I had to work my way back up to him. We're okay. I'm excited and looking forward to it." The winner's Bobby Pierce Racing, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Churchill Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Pontiac RV, Rio Grande Waste Services, Toyota of Danville, VP Fuels, Ted Brown's Quality Paint and Body Shop, Fast 1 Speed Shop, Leka Tree Service, Floyd's Waste Systems, DuroMax Racing Oil, and Bert by Budda. Completing the top ten in the first feature were Zack Dohm, Michael Chilton, Dustin Nobbe, Max Blair, and Josh Rice. In the second 25-lap race to finish the night, Mike Marlar was in control from the start until contact from a car he was trying to lap ended his night on lap 15. Moran then inherited the lead and kept the field paced through several cautions in the final 10 laps to take the victory. Hudson O'Neal finished second, with Justin Rattliff rounding out the Big River Steel Podium in third during the second feature. Garrett Alberson was fourth, and Carson Ferguson completed the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the seventh time this year and the 22nd time in his racing career, Moran will be vying for his first North/South 100 victory on Saturday night. "I definitely thought the checkered flag was ever going to come out. Unfortunately, when the one caution that got us to the lead happened, it was unfortunate for Mikey (Marlar). I really don't think we had anything for him. Racing just happens like that sometimes when you try to squeeze in there by a lapped car, and apparently that car didn't know he was there. I really didn't know where to be on the restarts. I saw the 12 car (Jameson) in second on the top, and you never know where Hudson is going to be because his car has been really good on the bottom, and he's won races here on the top. It was a nail-biter. I felt like it was never going to end, and when you are running the top, it can be very treacherous. I'm glad it's over," said the driver from Dresden, Ohio native. O'Neal, who started sixth, fought off a battle with James Rattliff and teammates Jason Jameson and Justin Rattliff to finish second. "We needed to be careful at the right moments, so we had a couple of spots where the caution came out, and we had to go back to second. That's just part of it, and in these short 25-lap races, you've got to take advantage of every opportunity. I fell back to fifth and thought, man, I don't know if I can catch up in such a short time, but it ended up working out." Rattliff, a former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third place. "It's really cool to be up here. I'd like to dedicate this to Jeff Gullett, and I'm glad we could get a good run. I could hit the bottom about every other lap, and then they'd just sail on top, and I was just like I needed to hit my marks. I was just down there trying to be as consistent as I could be," said the Campbellsville, Kentucky native who has competed in just a handful of races over the past few seasons. The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Hazen Services, BOMAG, Millwood Plumbing, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, CarSourceAuto, Anthony's Pizza, Refuel Wellness, McHugh Chrysler Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Eibach Sprints, VP Fuels, Smoky Mountain Speedway, Haulin' Haskell's, Phillips CPA, and Red Oak Pub. Completing the top ten in the second feature were Logan Zarin, Jason Jameson, Kyle Bronson, Nick Hoffman, and Kyle Strickler.
