- 63rd Annual J & S Classics Williams Grove National Open Brings History Alive Saturday - Historic Race Again Pays $75,000 Top Prize Oct. 4
Mechanicsburg - Sprint car fans in the East will assemble once again this Saturday night to see the 63rd annual running of the J & S Classics Williams Grove Speedway National Open for sprint cars, sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series, going 40-laps in distance and again paying $75,000 to the winner. The widely acclaimed event will be spun off with a Saturday A-Main total purse alone reaching nearly $192,000! The National Open has a grand history that dates back to its inception and first champion in 1963. It is a history that pre-dates all other season-finale races held anywhere in the East. Eventual Indianapolis 500 champion Gordon Johncock of Hastings, Mich., won the very first 100-lap affair in a contraption that had what looked like a wing atop its roll cage. And this too would soon come to pass, as sprint cars would begin taking over dirt tracks in the east, including Williams Grove Speedway. Ohio USAC standout Larry Dickson scored Open round two in 1964. Western Pennsylvania invader Henry Jacoby of Franklin took 1965. The name of Blaney graced the National Open winner's circle in 1966 as family patriarch Lou took Open laurels decades before his sons Dave and Dale would compete on the scene. Bobbie Adamson, becoming a region name, took back-to-back victories in 1967 and 1968 before a virtual unknown named Gene Varner from Selinsgrove drove a back-up Gary Wasson No. 5 to an upset win in 1969 after a distance of 150 laps. The decade of the 1970's dawned with Altoona flyer Johnny Grum picking up the Open win. The first of three consecutive wins by Midwest transplant Kenny Weld took place in 1971. All three of Weld's wins came aboard the Bob Weikert No. 29. Another transplant, The Bandit, Steve Smith Sr., took wins in 1974 and again in a rain-shortened 122-lap race in 1976 while The Original Outlaw, Bobby Allen drove to a win in 1975. Texas native racing brother Van May took the 1977 version of the National Open before the Pink Panther struck in 1978 with a Kramer Williamson 100-lap win. That 1978 National Open holds the distinction of technically being the first-ever race to be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws at Williams Grove despite the fact that no outlaws drivers were actually in the field. All the stars of the WoO circuit were at a race in the western part of the nation on that date but outlaws rules during the series' formative years stated that any race paying over a certain dollar amount to win would count as a sanctioned race and such is the history. Smokey Snellbaker drove to victory for Charlie Lloyd in 1979 before the grandson of a coal miner named Lucas, Allen Klinger of Hegins kicked off the 1980's with a 40-lap victory. The only National Open to ever carry an All Stars Circuit of Champions sanction took to the track in 1981 when Steve Smith Sr. returned for a third Open triumph. Lynn Paxton went back-to-back in 1982 and 1983 and stunned the racing world after his second 75-lap win by going into retirement during the off-season. Three more in a row for owner Bob Weikert came at the hands of South Dakota driver Doug Wolfgang from 1984 - 1986. Wolfgang got stunned, denied and passed by Bobby Allen's brother, Joey Allen, for the victory in 1987. The Mouse, Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, Ohio, took another win for Weikert in 1988. The year 1989 found the first true World of Outlaws National Open contested as the yearly sanctioning began with Stevie Smith taking a victory to carry on his father's tradition. One of if not the greatest sprint car driver(s) of all time, Hoosier Steve Kinser took his first National Open checkers in 1990. Stevie Smith returned for another Open win, both for car owner Al Hamilton, in 1991, and now at a distance of 50 laps. Kinser was again the champion in 1992 before daytime specialist Don Kreitz Jr. drove to victory under the Sunday sun in 1993 after 40 laps of action. Steve Kinser was again the winner in 1994 before outlaw cousin Mark Kinser took 1995. The locals went back in front in 1996 with Lance Dewease and No. 461 car owner Walt Dyer. Sammy Swindell won his first National Open in 1997 on a night that had fans returning to frozen windshields on their cars by the time the race ended. Persistent rain forced a non-sanctioned event in 1998, won by modified turned sprint star Billy Pauch in a mount owned by John Zemaitis. Mark Kinser returned for victory in 1999 before one of today's outlaws stars and champions, Donny Schatz took his first win in 2000 as part of what would become a historic record in National Open competition in another 13 years. Dewease returned the laurels to the PA Posse turf with back-to-back wins in 2001 and 2002, for car owners Joe Harz and Al Hamilton, taking $25,000 and $30,000, respectively on both accounts. Steve Kinser was again the winner in 2003 before Schatz returned for two in a row in 2004 and 2005. The first $50,000 to win National Open was scored by Lancaster's Doug Esh in 2006 and as it turned out it was the richest and shortest Open in history when rains hit on lap 26 of 40. Schatz was again the winner in 2007. Thanks to more persistent rain, another unsanctioned event in 2008 saw future outlaws and All Stars star Cody Darrah drive to victory. Greg Hodnett took a hugely popular National Open victory for the PA Posse in 2009 driving the Jim and Sandy Kline No. 22. Sammy Swindell got the second Open win of his career in 2010. West coast flyer Jason Meyers took the 40-lap, $50,000 laurels in 2011. The 2012 version saw North Dakota's Schatz surge for an unprecedented fifth career win in the prestigious classic National Open. With the $50,000, 40-lap victory, Schatz became the winningest driver in National Open history, breaking a four-win tie with Steve Kinser. In 2013, the grand career of local driver Fred Rahmer of Salfordville was capped off at Williams Grove with his first and only triumph in the lucrative, prestigious National Open as Rahmer led the final 31 laps of the 40-lap feature before the veteran retired from the sport at the close of the season. Connecticut driver David Gravel took the $50,000 win in 2014 but not without controversy. The outlaws flyer was overtaken by local favorite Stevie Smith during the last half of the race before the slightest of contact from a closely following Gravel found Smith spinning in the first turn with six laps to go while Gravel retook command for the victory. And then Stevie Smith got redemption in what was to be the first three-day National Open in history in 2015. After three consecutive days of rain stopped the event dead in its tracks, a break with the weather on Sunday allowed a raindated Open to be completed with Smith taking the lead from Danny Dietrich on the ninth tour to lead the final 31 circuits and beat Schatz to the line for victory. An uncanny three more days of rain and raw weather wiped out a second attempt at a three-day nationals in 2016. An outlaws make up two weeks later found Danny Dietrich taking the lead from Joey Saldana with two laps to go in the 40-lap affair to score a wildly popular win for the Pennsylvania Posse. Brad Sweet also took a turn at leading. Connecticut's David Gravel struck for his second $50,000 score in the 2017 National Open. Gravel took the lead from Donny Schatz and then took the lead back from James McFadden to win the 55th Annual affair. An emotional 2018 event held just days after the tragic death of 2009 National Open champion Greg Hodnett saw local driver Lance Dewease win his fourth career nationals for his fourth different car owner. Driving for Don Kreitz Jr. in the No. 69K, Dewease wrestled the lead away from Brock Zearfoss with a three-wide move in the second turn on lap 24 to seal the 40-lap deal, worth $56,000. A tearful Dewease dedicated the victory to Hodnett. Brent Marks of Myerstown won the richest sprint car race in the history of Williams Grove Speedway and the largest cash payoff ever for a sprint car race in the Eastern United States by claiming a $65,000 victory in 2019. A former regular at the track before going on the road with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series a few years prior, Marks scored the WoO victory by turning back challenges from both Brian Brown who took the lead for a time early and from Daryn Pittman on a last lap restart in the 40-lap affair. A National Open billed as the biggest sprint car race in the nation went to outlaw Donny Schatz in 2020 as the North Dakotan scored $75,000 for his unrivaled sixth career victory in the event. Schatz was the third and final leader in the hotly contested 40-lapper. A lap 12 restart saw David Gravel pull the trigger for control over Logan Schuchart but after locking down to the low side in the third and fourth turns, Schatz reeled in Gravel to make a low side, first turn winning move as the leader was entering traffic on lap 21. Kyle Larson come to life after a lap 25 restart and when Schatz entered traffic with seven laps left he closed in for the win. Larson pulled a banzai run through the third and fourth corners as the pair raced to the checkers by blasting the outside line before pulling to Schatz's outside in turn four however just as it appeared that he would edge in front his mount jumped the cushion. California's Carson Macedo won the biggest sprint car race of his career in the 2021 version of the Open when he became the third and final leader in the 40-lap main, overtaking Logan Schuchart for the lead with four laps to go. Schuchart got control on lap 13 when defending event winner and current leader Brent Marks spun while working traffic. Macedo fought off the challenges of Sheldon Haudenschild for second with 12 laps to go before taking the lead from a struggling Schuchart in traffic. Still aboard the No. 69K, local Lance Dewease would end up taking a flag to flag victory in the 2022, 75K to win, 40-lap National Open but he did lose the lead to a surging Brent Marks on lap 29. Marks made a backstretch move stick but Dewease got a reprieve before the lap could be scored thanks to a red flag for a crash. Marks continued taking shots over the final 12 laps but would end up second as part of a PA Posse podium sweep at the finish with Anthony Macri in third spot. The race was postponed for three weeks after an initial rainout. For Dewease, the Open title was a fifth as driver having taken previous Opens in 1996, 2001, 2002 and 2018 for owners Walt Dyer, Joe Harz, Al Hamilton and Kreitz respectively. The victory was also Dewease's fifth in a row at the track to end the season. Additionally, the win was the third of car owner Don Kreitz's career in the event, having taken one as an owner/driver. Brent Marks of Myerstown would triumph in the 61st version of the race in 2023 for his second win in the affair on what was a night with double features after the preliminary main was postponed by drizzle a night earlier. Marks started on the pole and lost the lead early to Justin Peck before sixth starter Daryn Pittman drove by both pilots, and took the lead with 12 away. Carrying a string of five runner-up finishes into the race, Pittman appeared headed tohis elusive first victory in the race aboard the Kreitz 69K but Marks was buzzing the top and tracked downthe leader to battle for control and eventually get it on lap 22. Pittman would earn a sixth bridesmaid finish in the Open. The $75,000 win was the fifth of the season for Marks at the track and pushed his five-race winning total to $120,100. Brad Sweet won the make-up Open prelim to close the night. Carson Macedo struck for the second Open win of his career in the 2024 event after taking the lead from Anthony Macri on the eighth lap. Late in the race a surging Sheldon Haudenschild closed it up on Macedo, chopping four-tenths of a second off of the leader's advantage to cross the line a challenging second, just .164 seconds behind at the finish. Another double feature finale treated fans when Friday's B Main, dash and feature got postponed to Saturday afternoon thanks to dense fog. It turned out to be an all-California show on Saturday when Penngrove native Buddy Kofoid won the prelim before Lemoore's Macedo took the 75K top prize in the 40-lap Open itself. Adult general admission for October 4 is $50 with youth priced at $20. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway. . Fireworks will be part of the program. - Thornton Takes Second Career Jackson 100 at Brownstown
BROWNSTOWN, IN (September 27, 2025) - Ricky Thornton Jr. took the lead for good on lap 76 after a spirited battle with Devin Moran that lasted for several laps, then led the rest of the way to win the 46th Annual Jackson 100 presented by the Jackson County Visitors Center on Saturday night at Brownstown Speedway. Thornton's 14th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing win of the year earned the Chandler, Arizona native $50,000 for his second Jackson 100 in the last three years. Moran finished in second, followed by Bobby Pierce, Carson Ferguson, and Tyler Erb. Moran led the first 21 laps of the race from the Victory Fuel Pole, as the two-time and reigning Indiana Icebreaker winner was aiming for his first Jackson 100 victory. Moran maintained his lead until Pierce, who started on the inside of row five, took the lead on the 22nd lap. Pierce then held the point until Moran regained the lead on lap 46. Moran then saw Thornton, who started on the outside of the front row and had dropped back to seventh at one point, climb back to second on lap 66 and then went back-and-forth with Moran for the lead before finally overtaking him for good on lap 76. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 56th time in his career, Thornton will hold the championship points lead heading into Pittsburgh next weekend. "I felt like I needed to go way before that," said the winner after he finally was able to clear Moran for the lead with 24 laps to go. "I felt like me and Terbo ran door-to-door for 20 to 25 laps, and it's nice to know you can race a car super hard like that, and he gives you plenty of room. I didn't know what happened there with Devin and JD; it looked like they both were just kind of going to the bottom and made a little contact, and JD went around. Obviously, you don't ever want to see that with a championship competitor like that, but luckily for us, it was one really good car we didn't have to worry about after that." I didn't know whether I needed to be on the bottom or the top, and I knew I was going to go to the bottom at that point. I got the lead up top; you could circle around the bottom and build so much speed that the top couldn't keep up. We had that yellow, and Bobby chose the bottom. I don't think he knew the top was a little better, just that during that first lap or two, once your tires got cold and before they warmed up again, you could just take advantage of the choppiness of the race track and really get going again. Moran and Davenport made contact while racing for second on lap 44, giving his point of view of the incident in Victory Lane after finishing in second after leading the most laps in the race. "I definitely didn't want that to happen, and he was just laying out really hard. I filled the gap right there, and we must have hit tire to tire because neither of us had any marks on our cars or anything. It's really unfortunate; I didn't want that to happen. I wanted to race it out, but it's a bummer. All in all, it was a good run for sure. We were sliding back and forth lap after lap, and I found a really good line during the last six or seven laps. I felt like I was inching closer to him, but it was just too late at that point. Ricky is just a really good racer, and it makes this chase for the championship just a little bit harder." Pierce, who entered the weekend as the winningest dirt late model driver in the country with 29 feature wins, led laps 22-45 and finished on the Big River Steel Podium in third. "I've been around long enough to know not to count my eggs before they hatch. Many times here, I've been at the start of the race. It's a great feeling when you drive from ninth to the lead and start pulling away, but it's still very early in the race. Heck, we still had a whole other feature to go, and about 50 laps left at that point. I knew the track was going to evolve, and once the speeds slowed down a bit, I feel like that's when I struggled to keep the car on the race track when we were crawling around. I have to say, those guys up front are a bunch of wheelmen battling for the lead. That was fun to watch when I was back in third." The winner's Koehler Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Ultimate Towing and Recovery, Hoker Trucking, Knight's Companies, Coltman Farms Racing, Elite Ready Mix, Capital Waste, EMD Wraps, Sunoco Race Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, and Certified Inspection Services. Completing the top ten were Jonathan Davenport, Tanner English, Nick Hoffman, Brandon Sheppard, and Garrett Alberson. - Jeff Dyer Excited to Return to Action in His USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car This Saturday at Perris
Yucca Valley, CA — September 25, 2025 — Just when Jeff Dyer thought his 410 season in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series was over for 2025, it will continue this Saturday, September 27th. Last month, the California Highway Patrol officer withdrew from the CRA main event at The PAS with five laps remaining, believing his engine was done for good. Fortunately, when Dyer, a Yucca Valley, California resident, examined the engine, he found no damage. As a result, he will be at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday. The discovery was a welcome relief in a season marked by multiple engine issues for the affable driver. "It is very frustrating," Dyer said of the mechanical woes he has encountered this season. "You put a lot of time and effort into this stuff. It takes the fun out of it because you go to the track and think, 'What else can go wrong?' You put your heart and soul into it, and the results don't show it. If you are not finishing races, it is flat-out embarrassing." Two weeks ago, Dyer hit the track twice in 24 hours with the Motor City Buick/GMC California Lightning Sprints, competing at both Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway and Merced Speedway. In addition, he made his midget racing debut at Merced. Overall, it was a strong weekend for Dyer, with second-place finishes in both CLS races and an eighth-place result in the USAC Western States Midget main event. "It is frustrating," Dyer lamented about finishing second two nights in a row. "At Kern, Bobby was just better than us. He had the car to beat. At Merced, I felt we were just too equal. Every time we caught lapped traffic, the yellow came out. I actually got by him in lapped traffic when the first yellow came out. It was frustrating as we were just equal. We needed one more factor to get involved and make it a great race." "I don't like losing but losing to Bobby with all the bad luck he has had, especially his health, it was a little easier," Dyer continued. "It is good to have him back out racing with us again and seeing him get back to his old form." The midget racing opportunity came together when Dyer received a call from Kelly Nichols, asking if he'd be interested in driving the Nichols/Peckfelder #2ND at Merced. He eagerly accepted the offer and was pleased with his performance. Dyer qualified 12th out of 15 cars and started the main event from the outside of the sixth row. He kept a clean race, advancing four positions to finish in 8th place, a result he was happy with. "It was different for sure," Dyer said when asked about the difference in driving a midget and his lightning sprint and USAC/CRA car. " I didn't really know what to expect of the car, having never driven one before. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were decent right out of the box. We were underpowered compared to the rest of the cars, but we ended up doing okay. I think we finished eighth after starting 12th. I hope I get to drive it again. He wanted me to go again on the following weekend, but I had to work. Work comes first." Dyer's teammate, 16-year-old Drake Cardey of Riverside, California, also competed in the two CLS races. The young driver's impressive rookie season continued with a fifth-place finish in both main events. Heading into the final three races of the year, he sits second in the CLS points standings, just 99 markers out of first. Additionally, he finished third in the CLS vs. BCRA Civil War points. Earlier this year, he placed second in the two-race Central California Showdown. He also leads the Rookie of the Year standings by 103 points as the season enters the home stretch. "He has had a great season and had a good weekend," Dyer said of Cardey. "We had some battles in the heat races and the main. People forget, this is his first year in a full-size racecar. He made some rookie mistakes that cost him podium finishes each day, but he is still progressing and doing very well." For fans who want to see Dyer in action on Saturday night, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at 5:00 PM, and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. Tickets for those 13 years of age and older are $35.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids six to 12 it is $10.00, and children five and under are admitted free. Advance tickets are available online at tix.com. There will be plenty of walk-up tickets available for everyone at the track ticket booths on Saturday. Fairgrounds parking is $20.00 (parking fee is payable by card only). Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Paris Drive in the City of Perris. The track website is perrisautospeedway.com, and the office phone number is 951-940-0134. Cardey's California Lightning Sprint Car is sponsored by Eibach Springs, Cardey Construction, Inland Rigging, Jake Swanson Shock Technology, Last Lap Insider, and Dylan Godeniz Motorsports. In 2025, the following marketing partners will help keep Dyer on track. Straight Time Stirrups, Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com. - Nick Hoffman Earns First Lucas Oil Victory at Brownstown
BROWNSTOWN, IN (September 26, 2025) - Nick Hoffman made his mark in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series record books on Friday night at Brownstown Speedway, becoming the 94th different winner in the series' 21-year history. Hoffman took the lead on lap 30 and narrowly edged out Brandon Sheppard at the finish line to win the $10,000 prize in the 4th Annual C.J. Rayburn Memorial. Hoffman, the defending Hoosier Dirt Classic winner at Brownstown, won by just .081 seconds in one of the closest finishes in series history. Sheppard finished second, with 10th-place starter Devin Moran rounding out the Big River Steel Podium in third. Moran was aiming for his third win in the last two years at Brownstown, as he has secured Victory Lane in the last two Indiana Icebreaker races. Jonathan Davenport took the lead at the start of the race, leading the first nine laps until he had to pit under caution for a left rear tire flat. Sheppard then moved up as Moran and Hoffman made it a three-car battle for the lead, with Hoffman passing Moran for second on lap 14. Hoffman then pressured Sheppard for the lead through heavy traffic while Moran was close behind in third. Hoffman was able to clear Sheppard on lap 30, and in the final 10 laps, he held on for the thrilling finish win. Current championship points leader Ricky Thornton Jr. finished fourth, with Garrett Alberson rounding out the top five drivers. In a race with three different leaders, Hoffman was the third and final leader after starting on the outside of row two for the 40-lap main event. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time in his career, the modified standout turned late model stalwart finally broke through at one of his favorite racetracks as he collected his ninth overall win of the year. "JD was in the lead there, and I just didn't know where to be. I was just trying to play with him a little because Ricky was beside me, and I was trying to get around Jason Jameson. Finally, I cleared him, and then I could run where I wanted. Devin showed me his nose there, and he was able to get by me on that restart, which got me back on the outside. On a restart, our car was good. It was just about picking the right lanes, but I ended up losing at the end, and I reached a point where I couldn't run where I wanted to. So, I started playing defense, and with Sheppy behind you, he's probably the cleanest guy out there." Sheppard, who was aiming for his third career win at Brownstown, narrowly missed the victory as he searches for his first Jackson 100 win on Saturday night. "I shouldn't have given up the lead the first time. When I got to lapped traffic, I was really trying to charge hard through the middle to pass the lapped cars, and I think that's where I made a mistake because most of us had soft left rear tires. So when I charged through that middle, I could just feel myself getting worse and worse, and I would slide from center off. I think I overheated my left rear tire there, and then I wasn't as good when I got down on the bottom." Moran kept up his impressive runs at Brownstown over the last two seasons, coming from 10th to finish in third place. "You always aim to be in victory lane. It was unfortunate for JD to get a flat, and I don't really know what happened between Ricky and Hud, but it was unfortunate for those guys. Overall, it was a great night for us. I really thought we had a good car there at the end, and I was right behind those guys. It was a great points night." The winner's Tye Twarog Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by NOS Energy Drink, Lonewolf Petroleum, C&W Trucking, Petroff Towing, Tri-Valley Equipment, VP Fuels, Bilstein Shocks, and Holdren Construction. Completing the top ten were Josh Rice, Bobby Pierce, Tyler Erb, Clay Harris, and Daulton Wilson. - Marks Returns To Williams Grove Victory Lane In National Open Tune Up, Norris Gets Fifth Of Year In 358 Sprints
Mechanicsburg - Brent Marks of Myerstown wrestled the lead away from Freddie Rahmer and drove to the win in the National Open Tune Up for Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night. The $6,000 victory was the 21st of Marks' career at the historic oval and his first there since winning the National Open itself in 2023. In the 358 sprint main event it was newly crowned track champion Dylan Norris of Hanover claiming his fifth oval win of the year in the division. Rahmer and Marks shared the front row for the start of the 25-lap National Open Tune Up and Marks one-upped Rahmer on the initial start and ducked low into the lead in the second turn. However a caution for stopped fourth-starter Daison Pursley negated the move and the ensuing restart saw Rahmer get the upper hand. The early pace was soon slowed again on lap three, giving Marks a clear shot at the leader. Marks kept the leader in his sights when action resumed and by lap nine Rahmer's advantage was still less than a second. By lap 10, traffic entered the picture and that's when Marks closed the gap as Rahmer got bottled up behind a batch of battling cars. Marks worked to Rahmer's inside for the next two laps before pulling a huge haymaker for control deep in the third turn on the 13th tour. But after taking command Rahmer refused to let Marks get away as the pair darted through traffic. A relentless chase by Rahmer nearly netted him the lead on more than one occasion including when Marks tripped up over the fourth turn cushion as he worked to put cars a lap down at a torrid pace. Eventually as the race reached the five-to-go point Marks was able to sneak away to a bit of comfort before crossing the line 1.668 seconds ahead of Rahmer. Brock Zearfoss rode home third followed by Cameron Smith and Troy Wagaman Jr. Sixth through 10th went to Justin Whittall, Danny Dietrich, Chad Trout, Gio Scelzi and Chase Dietz. Heats went to Whittall, Marks and Pursley with the B Main going to Ryan Newton. Rahmer earned the pole for the feature by winning the dash. Whittall set fast time with a lap of 16.665 seconds. Wagaman won the 2025 Hoosier Diamond Series title after his run in the main event. An attempted second start of the 20-lap 358 sprint main saw the red flag appear for a seven-car pile up on the frontstretch that saw the cars of JT Ferry and Denny Gross flip wildly. Ferry was treated for a possible foot injury as a result. Dylan Norris started eighth in the field and saw Chase Gutshall take the early lead as he began his march forward. By lap seven Norris was already up to second as we went to work on Gutshall's 2.3-second lead. Methodically he chopped four-tenths of a second per lap off of the leader's advantage in order to drive into the lead with eight laps to go. Norris then checked out on the field to claim the ninth win of his career at Williams Grove by nearly six seconds. Gutshall settled for second followed by Eli Tuckey, Chad Criswell and Ayden Hare. Sixth through 10th went to Frankie Herr, Cole Young, Scott Fisher, Derek Locke and Nash Ely. Norris had already sewn up the 2025 track title in the division before the night began. Heats went to Tuckey, Gutshall and Criswell. Feature Finishes 9/26/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Brent Marks, 2. Freddie Rahmer, 3. Brock Zearfoss, 4. Cameron Smith, 5. Troy Wagaman Jr., 6. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads Back to Perris After Season-Best Run
Chino Hills, CA — September 25, 2025 — Fresh off his best outing of the season, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will be back in action this Saturday, September 27th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Two weeks ago, Tafoya charged from deep in the field to finish fourth and captured the "In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award" for passing more cars than any other driver on the famous half-mile oval. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer entered that race on the heels of another strong fourth-place finish when the Ultimate Sprint Car Series visited Petaluma Speedway in the Bay Area on September 1st. Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns champion, opened his most recent PAS appearance by qualifying 13th in the 21-car field with a lap of 17.441 seconds. He then advanced to fourth in his heat race. In the 30-lap main event, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year lined up on the inside of the seventh row in 13th. To make things more challenging, the World of Outlaws winged feature was moved ahead of the USAC/CRA finale at the last minute, creating a slicker surface and making passing more difficult for most of the non-wing competitors. However, that was not the case for Tafoya in his sharp-looking #51T. The second-generation driver sliced through the field, picking off 13 cars and taking the checkered flag in fourth. His charge forward may have been even greater if he had not run out of laps. Fans who want to see Tafoya in person on Saturday can find complete race details below. Event Info: Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025 Location: Perris Auto Speedway, 18700 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA Times: Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00.
