- Davenport completes MLRA Spring Nationals sweep at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (April 11, 2026) - "Superman" indeed was again super, completing a sweep of the 13th annual MLRA Spring Nationals on Saturday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. Jonathan Davenport led all 50 laps - one night after pacing all 40 in the main event - and outdistanced runner-up Ricky Thornton Jr.,. Davenport, of Blairsville, Ga., earned $20,000 a night after taking a $7,000 win in his Double L Motorsports Longhorn chassis. This one was more challenging than the preliminary-night win, when Davenport's winning margin was more than seven seconds, as Thornton made it interesting as he zipped through the field from his 18th starting position. But in the end, it was all Davenport. "Ricky got up through there. He's had a tough weekend for sure, but he's really, really good," said Davenport, who led all 90 laps during the two wins. It was the two-time Show-Me 100 champion's 10th feature win at Lucas Oil Speedway since the spring of 2023. Davenport said he will return to Wheatland for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Show-Me 100, May 21-23, with some extra confidence after the MLRA Spring Nationals success. "We've got a really good notebook here," Davenport said. "We've kind of made it a tradition to bring a car here to get prepared for that race. This is an awesome facility and we love coming here." Just as he did Friday night, Davenport grabbed the lead at the drop of the green, though fellow front-row starter Tony Jackson Jr. stayed close through the early going with Davenport just a half-second in front through 10 laps. Davenport and Jackson already were passing lapped cars by that point with the first caution waving on lap 11 as Chris Simpson slowed with a flat tire while running third. The restart saw Davenport use clean air to extend his lead to two seconds by lap 17 over Jackson with Garrett Alberson moving into third. Alberson got around Jackson on lap 21 for second. Trevor Gundaker spun on lap 23 to bring out caution No. 2 as Davenport led Alberson by 3.1 seconds, followed by the ninth-starting Dalton Murty and Jackson. Thornton's surge from 18th continued as he claimed second on lap 27, going around Alberson. As Thornton and Alberson battled, Davenport was able to open a three-second lead by lap 30. Davenport struggled a bit with lapped traffic and Thornton rallied within 1.5 seconds with 10 laps to go. That was the same margin when caution flew on lap 43 as Jeff Herzog slowed with a flat tire and Dillon McCowan, who was running fourth, came to a stop in turn two. That gave Thornton a shot with seven laps remaining, but Davenport zipped away on the restart and opened a 10-car-length lead in just two laps. He kept pulling away and completed the sweep, prevailing over Thornton by 2.5 seconds at the checkers. "I was trying to pace myself," Davenport said of the final half of the race. "We really hurt tires more in the heat races today than we did yesterday. I was little worried about that, so I was pacing myself there and trying to keep a safe distance. "Just hats off to my crew. Once again, they did a phenomenal job." Alberson settled for third with Tyler Wolff driving from 19th to fourth and Matthew Larson taking fifth. Thornton lamented that he has to get his qualifying straightened out if he wants a level shot at beating Davenport. "It's embarrassing to start the night," Thornton said of time trials. "At least we're good when it matters. Congrats to 'JD.' He was really good and I knew he was going to be really good coming here. He's so good on entry and he can take off after that. "Hats off to my guys. I think we threw everything but the kitchen sink at it." Jackson Jr. posted fast overall qualifying lap with a time of 15.733 out of Group Two after Alberson paced Group 1 at 15.794. Jackson went on to win his heat race to earn the pole for the feature. Davenport, Simpson and Jeff Herzog also won heat races. Fennewald finishes Super Stocks sweep: Johnny Fennewald of Appleton City took the lead from race-long pacesetter Terry Schultz with one lap to go and held off Mike Striegel to win the Hickamo Super Stock feature for the second straight night. Schultz set the pace from the start and held a half-second lead over Striegel at the halfway mark on lap 10, with Blaine Ewing right behind in third with Fennewald fourth. The sixth-starting Fennewald moved into second on lap 15 and, riding the high groove all around the track, caught and passed Schultz on lap 19 coming out of turn four. Schultz broke something on his car and slowed, bringing out a yellow after taking the white flag. Fennewald beat Striegel by one second with Ewing third, Johnny Coats fourth and Derek Brown fifth. "I like this place. It fits my driving style really well," Fennewald said. "This track has been unbelievable. It's got character in it. It's not just follow the leader. It's got three grooves on racing and you can get on top of it now, which is where I like to be all the time." Evinger takes SMVR feature: Owen Evinger of Odessa, driving a 1970 Chevy Nova, led all the way to catpure the Show-Me Vintage Racers 15-lap feature, beating David Isaacs by a half-second. "I like this class a lot," Evinger said. "Usually we don't have a lot of wrecks, but it wasn't that way tonight." Emma Davis was third in the caution-filled race, with Jim Thorne fourth and Richard Fields fifth. - Cap Henry edges Lucius for Attica All Star win; Torok gets 1st career 305 victory
ATTICA, Ohio - In most sports, it can come down to who makes a mistake first to determine a winner. That was the case Saturday, April 11 as Attica Raceway Park kicked off the 2026 season with the NAPA Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions Presented by Valvoline Oil for the Core and Main Spring Nationals presented by Advanced Drainage Systems, Construction Equipment and Supply, Erie Black Top, Smith Paving. Bryce Lucius looked headed to the win, but a bobble dealing with lapped traffic with just four laps to go on a narrow track opened the door for defending and four time track champion Cap Henry to slip by. Lucius wasn't done, as he made it extremely interesting coming to the checkers, as Henry held on for a .071 second win over Lucius, Tim Shaffer, 10th starter Tyler Courtney and Zeth Sabo. It was the 144th appearance of the All Stars at Attica as the series kicked off its 2026 racing campaign as well. It marked Henry's 13th career All Star win and his 29th career 410 Attica victory, placing him third on the track's all-time win list in the division. Henry has also won the last five straight All Star features. "We got lucky. Our car wasn't that good all night but Zack (Myers) and the guys worked hard all night to get this thing better and put us in a position to capitalize. Bryce just made one mistake," said Henry beside his Jeff Ward Demolition, Premier Planning Services, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, Tony Elliott Foundation, Primal Tee Shop, Innovative Excavating, Power Cool Manufacturing, Dyer's Top Rods, Griff's Engines backed #33W. Lucius, who led laps 1-25, was understandably heart-broken. "I gave it away in lapped traffic. I made one mistake and I will learn from it," said Lucius beside his STP Motorsports, Kistler Engines, Smith Titanium, Maxim Chassis, Lucius Trucking, Truck Worx of Ohio backed #32. In nearly an identical situation in the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint feature, Kasey Ziebold lead the first 11 laps but slipped up trying to get around a lapped car and Brenden Torok capitalized and drove to his first career Attica and dirt track sprint car win over Ziebold, defending track champion Seth Schneider, John Ivy and Bryan Sebetto. "We've been working on this for so long. I can't give a big enough thanks to everyone…my mom my dad my fiancée Tori and all my buddies. It's a family deal…it's me and my dad out in the garage every night. To finally get it….we've gotten second so many times," said Torok beside his Modern Poured Walls, Beane Realtors, Greber Race Components, Dynatech, 5K Roofing, Milton Trucking, KMU Trucking, Grafton VFW Post 3341, Lorenzo's Pizza, Schaefer's Oil by Dennis Morlock, backed #2. - Alex Yankoswki pockets $10,000 after winning the Fritz Roehrig Memorial Money in the Mountains at Big Diamond Speedway
(Minersville, PA 4-10-26) Whenever the opportunity presents itself, Alex Yankowski of Covington Township always tries to come back to Big Diamond Speedway, a track that played a big part as the springboard to his career where he is now a top touring driver with dirt Modifieds across the Northeast. Yankowski did return to the 3/8-mile oval for last week's season opener Thaw Brawl where he showed respectable speed in charging his way up to a top-5 finish from a mid-pack start. However, on Friday night even bigger rewards came his way as he collected a cool $10,000 in taking the annual Fritz Roehrig Memorial Money in the Mountains on DBR Industrial Services Night. And, although the race ended early, with the checkered flag waving 13 laps before the scheduled 50-lap finish because a rainstorm moved through the region, it was clear that Yankowski was the driver to beat. Despite the shortened distance, his performance left little doubt that he had the fastest car on the track and was in control throughout the event. "This place has always been special to me and I kind of learned to race here in the beginning of my Sportsman Modified days and it was special too because my grandfather would come here then," said Yankowski. "I feel like here and Five Mile Point is where I cut my teeth, but also got my butt kicked a lot and tonight leaving here with this win feels very good." By luck of the draw Yankowski pulled the pole position and then quickly went to work from there in setting the early pace ahead of Anthony Perrego. Kevin Beach Jr., Brett Kressley and Tim Buckwalter ran close behind that pair. As the race went on Yankowski continued to keep a well enough distance over Perrego and was also negotiating his way around lapped traffic with ease. Perrego's night would come to an unanticipated end on lap 34 when he came to a halt after suffering a left rear flat which also prompted a caution. When the field reset for the restart Kressley was second to Yankowski with Buckwalter and Louden Reimert next in line. As the green waved to resume the action Buckwalter then shot by Kressley for the runner-up spot. However, Yankoski was still able to maintain a few car lengths distance and unfortunately it will not be known if Buckwalter would have had anything for the leader as the rain came three laps later and prematurely ended the night. "The track was really tricky at times and then the cautions just fell the right way for me that I was able to run my race," reflected Yankowski. It was the first time winning at Big Diamond since scoring the Coalcracker victory in 2021. "Rick Stankowicz gave us a really good car tonight and he got a really big check to take back to Reading. It's always good to come down here a couple of times a year, see all these fans and grab some of these big money shows," said Yankowski. "The right Panhard bar is such a different deal than what I'm used to. We run about 86 times a year and maybe five of those are with the right side Panhard bar which is a little bit different package, but Kevin Bates does such a great job of just adapting to no matter what racecar we're running, and our SY/Murray Performance Engine was really stout tonight too and I'm really proud of our engine shop," he continued. "It's been different for us to try and catch up, and you have guys here like Duane Howard and Louden Reimert, the Watt's and Timmy Buckwalter and others who are really good here and when you get a package that they run all year long and we only come down a few times, we have to think a little bit more but it's fun and I enjoy it and it's something different and not just a cookie-cutter deal." In the Roadrunner feature Mike Reichert of New Ringold put his years of experience to the test after a constant race-long battle against the Bassininsky brothers Jared and Joe who made the veteran earn every bit of his win. At the outset Jared Bassinisky took to the lead but would have Joe Bassinisky closely in his shadow while Reichert hovered in third. By lap seven both would set sail past Jared Bassinisky. Reichert successfully utilized the inside lane to maintain pace with Joe Bassinisky, subsequently taking the lead with eight laps remaining. Getting the lead was one thing but staying there was no easy task as he would be forced the rest of the way to fend off the Bassininsky boys. Joe lost his shot when he spun in turn four with two laps remaining attempting to get underneath Reichert. Jared then hounded him to the checkers from there. For Reichert it would be his 19th class win in a career that spans over three decades. The postponed 602 Crate Sportsman and Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman features will be added on to the upcoming April 17 program. 358 Modified finish (50 laps): 1. Alex Yankowski, 2. Tim Buckwalter, 3. - Peck Upends Smith For Williams Grove Sprints Win, Locke Claims Dirty Deeds 25 for 358s
Mechanicsburg - Invader Justin Peck upended Ryan Smith with a late race pass and went on to win the 25-lap feature for Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night. The victory was the third of Peck's career at the track and was worth $5,000. In the 25-lap Dirty Deeds 25 main for HJ Towing & Recovery 358 sprints, Mechanicsburg's Derek Locke took the lead from Cole Young for the victory. Polesitter Buddy Schweibinz zoomed into the lead at the start of the 410 sprint feature with second starter Ryan Smith giving chase. Third starter Peck of Monrovia, Indiana, was trailing in third when Cameron Smith slowed to a stop on the fourth lap. Schweibinz got away from the field when action resumed and entered the backmarkers on the ninth tour. But with 10 laps to go Smith had caught the leader and on lap 18 he drove into the lead with an outside turn two move only to see the pass negated when an untimely caution slowed the pace and placed Schweibinz back on the point. Aboard his mount owned by Don Kreitz Jr., Smith made good on his chances when action resumed and took control by driving across the bottom in the first and second turns. Peck soon followed Smith and took second spot. Smith appeared to be home free, headed for his first win at the track since 2016 when Doug Hammaker rolled his car in the fourth turn with three laps to go, bringing out the red flag. Peck and his team used the open red flag period to make changes on his Rudeen Racing No. 26 and on the restart a blast around the top in the first turn nearly netted him control and gave notice of his new corner speed. And then the next time around Peck made it stick by again rolling the top groove while picking up speed from the middle of the corner to the exit. Smith didn't give up however and just past the white flag he drove his blue racer fully in front of Peck with a low side dive into the first corner. And with that Smith tried to drive up in front of Peck and take his line away but Peck used his mid-corner speed to rally back and prevent him from completing the move. Peck then went on to the victory by .811 seconds. Lance Dewease was third followed by Schweibinz and Brent Marks. Sixth through 10th went to Troy Wagaman Jr., Dylan Norris, Freddie Rahmer, Chase Randall and Aaron Bollinger. Heats went to Smith, Dewease and Peck. Overall fast time was set by Marks with a lap of 16.916 seconds. The start of the Dirty Deeds 25 for 358 sprints was called back when polesitter Jacob Galloway spun in front of the field as he entered the first turn. The restart saw Cole Young take command with fifth starter Derek Locke moving forward. Locke was up to second by lap four but trailed Young by a straightaway. A caution on the eighth lap bunched the field and allowed Locke to work on the leader but it took until lap 20 for him to make the winning pass. It was Locke's 18th career limited sprint win at the oval. Young settled for second by .864 seconds. Austin Reed rode home third followed by Matt Findley and Cody Fletcher. Sixth through 10th went to Hunter Fulton, Steve Wilbur, Chase Gutshall, Brayden Mickley and Brett Wanner. Heats were taken by Young, Fletcher and Locke. - Fourteen-year-old Jett Barnes strikes for Gold Star GMC Sprint Car victory at Watsonville Speedway
Watsonville, CA…Visalia's Jett Barnes and Redding's Max Mittry put forth a crowd-pleasing performance on Friday night at Watsonville Speedway. When all was done and dusted it was Barnes fending off Mittry to grab his first career Gold Star GMC Sprint Car triumph at the quarter mile. Fellow winners on Friday evening included Cody Burke with the IMCA Modifieds, Austin VanHoff with the Santa Cruz Apparel IMCA Sport Mods, Joe Gallaher with the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks and Eric Weisler with the SSSP South Bay Dwarf Cars. Barnes and Mittry led the field to green in the 25-lap Gold Star GMC Sprint Car finale. After a couple of laps, it was Barnes who settled into the lead. Mittry came to life after a handful of circuits however and closed right up on the tail tank of the Jason Meyers Racing No. 14. After hounding the leader for a few circuits Mittry made his move on lap 13 to scoop up the top spot as the crowd came to its feet. The reigning SCCT Speedweek champion was in search of career win number one and looked solid, but Barnes wasn't done just yet. The youngster found the high side in turns one and two, creating monster runs in his pursuit of the lead. With just five laps remaining Barnes shot back around for the top spot and held off Mittry to the Ed Entz checkered flag. It capped a strong three week run for Barnes at Watsonville Speedway, where he scored the Keith Day Company Fast Time Award on three straight occasions and podiumed each race. Completing the top five behind him and Mittry were Kaleb Montgomery, Dominic Gorden and Jake Haulot. Adrianna Demartini brought home the Taco Bravo Hard Charger Award. Past IMCA Modified champ Cody Burke of Salinas led all 25 laps in the main event during their season debut on Friday. Burke hit his marks down low each time and held off a relentless Andrew Pierce for the win. Pierce, Troy Foulger, Logan Drake and Nick Decarlo followed him across the line. The Santa Cruz Apparel IMCA Sport Mods put on a fantastic main event for the fans last night. With track conditions in superb shape the 20-lapper saw multiple different leaders and a race that wasn't decided till the very end. Kingsburg driver Todd Carlock led the early stages in his No7 mount until having a moment midway through the contest. The always fast Jason Ryan Jr. then held the point over the second half of the race as he, Bo Crebs and Austin VanHoff battled it out. Lapped traffic created a hectic finish that saw VanHoff take full advantage and pick the right spots to move out front. He led the final couple of circuits to claim the exciting triumph over Ryan, Tanner Thomas, Crebs and Emali VanHoff. The R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks acted as the night cap on Friday and saw multi time track champion Joe Gallaher pick up a close win at the finish. Fan Favorite Adriane Frost led early until Gallaher rocketed by for the lead. As things began to play out it was Gallaher, Frost and Lilly Mead racing close together up front. The veteran Gallaher had to be perfect over the closing stages as Mead found another gear and came after him quickly. Gallaher never faltered though and narrowly beat out Mead coming to the checkered flag. Frost, Dwayne Short and Dakota Keldsen rounded out the top five. The Security Shoring and Steel Plates Dwarf Cars made their season debut on Friday. Danny Wagner dominated the contest only to have mechanical issues three laps shy of the finish. Eric Weisler took advantage and motored off to win over Jason Lazzerini and John Durden. - Mike Lisowski claims Big Diamond Speedway season opening "Thaw Brawl"
(Minersville, Pa. 4-3-26) Big Diamond Speedway opened up its 54th season of "Racing in God's Country" as the action officially got underway Friday evening with the "Thaw Brawl" which saw a nicely filled pit area and a packed grandstand of race hungry fans in attendance. And, for those ardent fans of the popular Schuylkill County dirt oval the anticipation was worth the off-season wait as all classes displayed some intense and blazing competition. Heading up the list of winners was local favorite Mike Lisowski of Minersville who took home the $4054 winner's check in the 25-lap BQ Concrete 358 Modified feature. For the second straight year Colin Cox of Perkasie scored the victory in the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman. In the Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners defending champion Alex Schoffstall of Llewelyn snagged a close verdict and scoring a career first win in the Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman was Branch Dale's Kevin Fitzpatrick. By luck of the draw the starting grid for the Modified feature placed Ryan Watt and Lisowski on the front row and at the drop of Shawn Maulhall's race commencing green it would be Watt blasting into the early lead with Lisowski in tow. It didn't take long to get into a quick rhythm either as the first 13 laps were reeled off caution free and during that span Watt was setting a torrid pace but all the while he was having to fend off a hard charging Lisowski who repeatedly tried to find an opening to get by. Watt, though, stayed vigilant in keeping his lead despite the ongoing effort of Lisowski. For Lisowski, the moment of opportunity finally arrived in the form of a caution. With 13 laps in the books the yellow waved for Dom Buffalino who stopped in Turn 2 with a right rear flat. On the ensuing restart Lisowski was able to out-maneuver Watt and thrust his way to the top spot. And once in front there would be no looking back as he continued to keep steady and would have no worries either as he kept a safe enough distance from the pack en route to the very popular win. "Without a restart I wasn't sure I could have gotten around him (Watt). The track was so fast, and Ryan was so savvy and so good and he's always hard to get around in clean air like that," said Lisowski. "Drawing good certainly helped and we weren't very good after the heat race and we went to work on the car, and it made a big difference. We put a new shock package on this car, and it was really good tonight." As Lisowski was preserving the lead, behind him was plenty of moving and shaking. Not long after Watt surrendered the lead he was soon facing off against the likes of Jared Umbenauer and reigning division champ Louden Reimert. That trio battled close for several laps before Umbenhauer and Reimert both got by Watt. Umbenhauer took control of second and although he was within reach of Lisowski, he could not get close enough to challenge and settled for a solid runner-up. For Reimert it was much of the same while tagging closely behind Umbenhauer. Watt took fourth while Alex Yankoski rounded out the top five. In the 602 Crate Sportsman feature Christopher Buffalino drew the pole position and with that wasted little time in taking charge of the field once the action got underway. Buffalino continued to look solid too, until a caution with seven laps to go would see Cox line up alongside him and on the restart he vaulted past him and into the lead where he would stay for the remainder of the race. The win netted him $1054. Ryan Graver did a great job of steering through traffic and after an intense battle with Brennan Chapman he slotted his way into second place over the waning laps but would not be able to advance from there as Cox had him and everyone else covered. By taking the win in the Roadrunner feature, Alex Schoffstall continues to define his career as one of the premier chauffeurs of Big Diamond Speedway and not only with the popular full-fender division but overall, among all drivers. His victory upped his all-time class leading wins to 38. Taking the lead on lap two of the 20-lap contest Schoffstall was up on the wheel lap after lap as he had relentless opposition bearing down on him from Mike Reichert, Terry Kramer and Joe Bassinisky. Regardless of the onslaught Schoffstall never wavered. Then in a thrilling last lap fight to the finish Bassininsky stepped up and made a valiant effort to squeeze inside of Schoffstall but his hard fought effort came up a half car length short. In the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman main there's no doubt that April 3, 2026, will forever be etched in the mind of Kevin Fitzpatririck as he not only earned his career first win but added also to the family legacy of winners at the speedway. Fitzpatrick zipped by early leader Payton Renninger at the completion of lap two and remained steadfast the remaining distance. Keeping close tabs was second place finisher Devin Whitmoyer, who, like Fitzpatrick, is part of a strong racing heritage and displayed outstanding skills for his first time out. 358 Modified finish (25 laps): 1.
