- Barnes, Mead, Welborn and Santana surge to entertaining Watsonville wins on First Responders Night
Watsonville, CA…Visalia's Jett Barnes has been exceptional during his Watsonville Speedway starts this year and raced to his second triumph in four appearances last night with the Gold Star GMC 360 Sprint Cars. Fellow winners on First Responders Night included Lilly Mead with the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks, Jonathan Welborn with the Heat Wave Visual Four Bangers and Mike Santana with Police N Pursuit. Clovis driver Dominic Gorden took command at the waving of the green flag in the 25-lap Gold Star GMC 360 Sprint Car feature. Young Cole Croft kept him honest over the early stages, not letting the former Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial winner get too far ahead. Jett Barnes, who had earned the Keith Day Company Fast Time Award earlier, settled into fourth after a handful laps, but then started to find his groove. The 14-year-old began to run the bottom of turn two and got immense runs as he carved his way forward. Barnes sliced into third on lap nine and then second just a few circuits later. He then erased a two second lead that Gorden possessed and pounced for the top spot on lap 18. A green-white-checkered restart was seen but nothing could slow Barnes who drove off to claim the Ed Entz checkered flag. In his four starts at Watsonville Speedway this year Barnes has set fast time at each event and has tallied two wins, along with a pair of third place efforts. He is expected to make his 410 Sprint Car debut at the track on May 29th with the NARC King of the West Series. Gorden crossed the stripe in second while Croft made the move by Dominic Scelzi to bring home third on the final restart. Croft even challenged Gorden for second on the final lap, as he recorded his first career Sprint Car podium. Scelzi and Caleb Debem completed the top five. The R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks put on an exciting 20-lap finale that saw veteran Sam Kennedy lead early. Track conditions were spot on for the Hustling Hobby Stocks with side-by-side racing prevalent throughout the field. Nick Silva then fought his way to the top spot on lap six as the front runners raced closely together. A caution on lap 11 set up a double file restart with Silva and Lilly Mead on the front row. Racing back to the green things got a little too close for comfort and resulted in Silva suffering a flat tire, forcing him to pit. With Mead now up front she had to contend with the relentless pressure from Joe Gallaher. The duo was fun to watch over the closing laps. Mead fended off Gallaher to earn her second victory of the season. They were followed by Dakota Keldsen, Kennedy and Adriane Frost. The Heat Wave Visual Four Bangers also provided fans with some buzz as three different drivers held command at various points. Rookie Preston Hohmann led the first couple of circuits until Justin Hertel got by to grab the point. All eyes then focused on Jonathan Welborn, who methodically weaved his way by cars and charged into the lead on lap nine. Hertel didn't let him get away though and stayed glued to his bumper. Welborn hit his marks however, and scored the win over Hertel, Tony Gullo, David Dupuis and Shelbie Freeman. The Police N Pursuit feature then saw Welborn known as "Jonathan Outlaw" lead seven laps until the officers were able to catch him. After that it was all Mike Santana who held off a very fast AJ Waltrip to claim the win. Watsonville Speedway goes dark during Memorial Day weekend, before resuming action with Class of 2026 - Senior Night on Friday May 29th. On hand will be the NARC King of the West 410 Sprint Cars, the R&J Landscaping Hobby Stocks and Western Midget Racing. - Rumsey Outruns Dietz To Williams Grove 410 Sprint Win, Cody Fletcher Nabs 358s
Mechanicsburg - Logan Rumsey of Manchester outran Chase Dietz to score the first 410 sprint checkered flag of his career at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night. The $5,500 victory made Rumsey the seventh winner in as many races at the oval so far this season. In the 358 sprint main it was Cody Fletcher of East Berlin getting his first win of the year at the track and the second of his career overall there at well. Rumsey earned the outside pole for the 25-lap 410 sprint main by winning the second heat race. Chad Trout led the field into the first turn when action began but Rumsey bit fast to the bottom groove as the pair raced through the second turn to take control onto the backstretch. Only the first lap was completed when the red flag unfurled for a hard TJ Stutts crash in the third turn. JJ Loss had looped his car on the cushion while running fifth and after several cars made it by his stopped mount Stutts slammed into it before flipping. Justin Whittall was also involved. Rumsey had built up a lead of more than four seconds over the field by the time he entered the backmarkers on the ninth tour while at the same time the cars of Preston Lattomus and Brock Zearfoss battled hard for third behind Trout. Meanwhile, eighth starter Chase Dietz was finding speed and by lap 11 he was up to fourth behind Zearfoss. And by lap 13 Dietz had disposed of Zearfoss for second as both drivers shuffled Trout backwards. At that point Rumsey had a 5.7 second advantage built over Dietz and the York driver went to work methodically erasing the leader's margin. From laps 14 through 19 Dietz handily chopped off anywhere from five to seventh-tenths of a second per lap off of Rumsey's controlling margin. And with five laps to go Dietz was still biting into the lead. Dietz ran his surge right down to the wire in a quest for his first win of the season at the track and with two laps to go he was less than a second behind Rumsey. And although a last lap pass for the win seemed inevitable, Dietz hopped the cushion in the first turn on the final circuit and would run out of time with Rumsey getting the win by .324 seconds. Zearfoss was third followed by Freddie Rahmer and Troy Wagaman Jr. Sixth through 10th went to Camerson Smith, Danny Dietrich, Chad Trout, Dylan Norris and Lance Dewease. Heats went to Trout, Rumsey and Jude Siegel with Brent Shearer taking the consolation race. Justin Foster led the first 14 laps of the 20-lap 358 sprint main before eighth starter Cody Fletcher raced into the lead. Fletcher raced hard to get the win, battling with Foster for several laps before making good on a lap 13 restart to set up Foster for a pass deep in the third turn on the 15th tour. It was Fletcher's sixth overall win of the season, coming by 2.143 seconds over Adam Carberry. Foster faded to third. Austin Reed was fourth followed by Matt Findley. Sixth through 10th went to Derek Locke, Cole Young, Chase Gutshall, Hunter Fulton and Steve Owings. Heats went to Foster, Chance Hendershot and Carberry. - Tafoya Set for Return at Central Arizona Following Hand Surgery
Chino Hills, CA — May 14, 2026 — Three weeks after undergoing hand surgery, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is set to return to action this Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16, when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series invades Central Arizona Raceway. The pair of races on the fast 3/8-mile clay oval will mark the first of three races in a nine-day stretch for the Chino Hills, California standout. Located approximately 50 miles south of Phoenix, Central Arizona Speedway has quickly become a favorite stop for racers and fans alike. The modern dirt track is known for its wide racing surface, multiple grooves, and intense wheel-to-wheel competition that often produces some of the most exciting racing on the USAC/CRA schedule. Three days after competing at Central Arizona on April 21st, Tafoya underwent surgery to repair an injury he suffered at Perris Auto Speedway last August. The operation was successful, but it forced the popular driver to miss the May 2nd USAC/CRA race at Ventura Raceway. Now fully healed and eager to get back behind the wheel, Tafoya is ready to resume his strong 2026 campaign. In his last appearance at the Arizona oval, Tafoya qualified seventh fastest in a competitive 19-car field. After finishing third in his heat race, he rolled off from the seventh starting spot in the 30-lap main event. Early in the race, the 28-year-old battled fiercely to maintain a spot in the top 10. As the laps wound down, however, he became one of the fastest cars on the track. Charging through the field in the closing stages, Tafoya stormed all the way to fourth before ultimately finishing fifth at the checkered flag. Through his first five starts of the 2026 season, he has yet to finish worse than sixth and has already recorded three top-five finishes. His best result came in the USAC/CRA season opener at Mohave Valley Raceway on February 28th, where he scored an impressive third-place finish. Following this weekend's action in the "Copper State," Tafoya will return home to Perris Auto Speedway for one of the longest-running sprint car races in the world, the historic Salute to Indy on May 23rd. The prestigious event, which dates back to 1948, has long been one of the crown jewels of sprint car racing in the world. Gates for this weekend's races, which will close out the first half of the season at the Central Arizona Raceway, will open at 5:00 p.m. each night with racing at 7:00 p.m. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors and active military get in for $18.00. Young adults 11-17 are $10.00, and children 10 and under are free. The track is located at 512 S 11 Mile Corner Road in Casa Grande, Arizona. The track's website is https://www.centralazraceway.com/ and the office phone is 520-754-0407. For fans who can not make it, both nights will be streamed live on Flo Racing. Eddie Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at eddietafoya51. - Night of Destruction Returns Saturday With $1,000 to Win Figure 8 and Demo Cross Main Events!
Perris, California — May 14, 2026 — The "Craziest Show on Dirt," Night of Destruction, returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, May 16, at 7:00 p.m. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Early arriving fans can meet all of the drivers and see the cars up close during the candy giveaway and autograph session on the track from 5:15-6:00 p.m. Night of Destruction last appeared at the track on April 25. Unfortunately, rain canceled the final two races of the night — the Figure 8 and Demo Cross main events. That created a unique situation for this Saturday. Since both classes completed their heat races that night but did not get to contest their main events, this Saturday's main event purses in those divisions will double. Thus, the winner of each main event will take home $1,000.00. Second place in each will pay $600.00, and third place will pocket $400.00. "The extra money up for grabs is going to make things very interesting," promoter Don Kazarian said. "Adding to the intrigue will be the fact that the drivers who were there for the rainout will be competing for double points. Those two things combined are going to make it crazy. It could end up being one of the wildest nights we have ever had at Night of Destruction." Four-time Figure 8 champion Jesse Gordon comes into the night undefeated in main event action in 2026. He won the first two races of the year and carries a six-point lead over Whittier's Douglas Schattilly in the championship chase. Lane Hoffarth of San Jacinto, who competes in four of the five Night of Destruction classes, is third, 15 points behind the leader. Another San Jacinto racer, Trebor Stephens, has a win and a second-place finish in the first two Demo Cross mains of the season. The 2023 and 2024 class champion leads Chino's Mike Brown by nine points coming into Saturday's race. Riverside's Austin Kinnane, who won the season-opening race, is third. Whittier's Michael Schattilly, the 2023 and 2024 Figure 8 Trailer Race champion, won the first two class mains of the season. Three weeks ago, last year's Iron Man Champion (all classes combined), Rob Multhaupt Jr. of Orange, won the F8T main before the rain became to heavy and washed out the Figure 8 and Demo Cross mains. Schattilly leads the standings heading into Saturday, with Lane Hoffarth Jr. and Multhaupt deadlocked for second, 12 points behind. Last year's champion, Hoffarth Sr., is fourth. The Mini Stock class features a unique situation, with the Green family occupying four of the top five spots in the championship standings. Leading the way is 2024 champion Steven Green Sr. of Lake Elsinore. Brodey Green of Riverside is second. The only non-member of the Green family in the top five is second-year Night of Destruction competitor Isaac Salazar of Mentone. Rounding out the program will be the popular Double Deckers. The "Hot Diggity Dodge" has won two of the first three main events of the season and leads the three-time champion "Bug Ya' Later" by three points. The "Ghost Busters" car is third. For the first time this year, the weather forecast for Night of Destruction looks great. The predicted high temperature in Perris on Saturday is 79°, and the temperature at the 7:00 p.m. starting time is forecast to be 72°. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. Students ages 13-17 with a school ID are $15.00. Kids ages 6-12 are $10.00, and children 5 and under are free. Active military members with proper ID will be admitted for $5.00. Parking is $20.00 (parking payment is by card only). Advance tickets for all 2026 PAS races are available at tix.com. - O'Neal Captures High Bank Heist Opener at Eagle Raceway
EAGLE, NE (May 14, 2026) - Current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Indiana charged from the seventh starting position to capture his fifth Series victory of the 2026 season Thursday night during opening night of the Malvern Bank High Bank Heist at Eagle Raceway. O'Neal collected $10,000 for the win, which also marked his 13th overall dirt late model victory of the year. Ricky Thornton Jr., who started 15th, earned Hoker Trucking Hard Charger honors as he rallied to finish second. Brandon Sheppard, fresh off last Saturday's victory at Fairbury Speedway, rounded out the Big River Steel podium in third after starting 10th. Max Blair finished fourth, while Jonathan Davenport completed the top five. Brandon Overton led the opening 17 laps of the 40-lap main event before Garrett Alberson briefly took over the top spot for three circuits. Overton regained the lead on lap 21 and appeared poised for victory until O'Neal began closing rapidly in the closing stages. O'Neal completed the winning pass exiting turn four on lap 30. Overton remained second until lap 34, when a flat left rear tire forced him to the hot pit. After changing the tire, Overton returned to finish 16th after leading 27 laps. The win marked the 39th Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of O'Neal's career and his second triumph at Eagle Raceway, having also won during the Series' inaugural visit to the track in 2024. "I felt like we were pretty good all night," O'Neal said in Lucas Oil Victory Lane. "The top was dominant early, and it was hard to make time on the bottom. Once the track started moving around, though, I felt really good down there. Overton was definitely better around the cushion, but once the bottom came in, I just tried to stay patient and wait for my opportunity." "We finally got a restart where I could get underneath him, and then he had the misfortune with the flat tire. On that last restart, my carburetor stumbled a little bit and I thought everybody was going to pile into me. I'm sorry if anybody got caught up in that." Thornton, who unloaded a backup car after issues surfaced during hot laps, charged from the eighth row to finish just 0.616 seconds behind O'Neal. "I love this place," Thornton said. "We had trouble with the primary car in hot laps, so we unloaded this one and probably overdrove in qualifying, which made for a long night. But we passed a lot of cars, and the car felt really good." "Restarts really dictated where you needed to be. I knew Max (Blair) wasn't going to the top, and if JD left the top open, I was going for it. I got a really good run and just tried not to get stuck following Hud around the bottom." Sheppard continued his recent momentum with a third-place finish after charging forward from 10th. "Honestly, I felt like we had a really good race car the whole race," Sheppard said. "I just made a couple wrong moves early—stayed too high too long, then stayed too low too long before halfway. Once everyone started moving around, I could really roll the track and move wherever I needed to. We had a really fast race car tonight." O'Neal's winning SSI Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and backed by Big River Steel, Wheeler Metals, Merrill Bonding Company, Professional Concrete Cutting and Drilling, O'Neal's Salvage and Recycling, Lineal Contracting, Seven Spurs Ranch, Sub Surface of Indiana, Beeman Lumber, Indiana USSSA Fast Pitch Softball, Dicky's Doghouse, Lucas Oil Products, Penske Racing Shocks, and Sunoco Race Fuels. Completing the top ten were Brian Shirley, Devin Moran, Kyle Bronson, Garrett Alberson, and Dallon Murty. - Reutzel comes alive late in Attica Race to collect $20,000 plus bonus for $50k in three days
ATTICA, OHIO - Aaron Reutzel grabbed another gear the last 10 laps at Attica Raceway Park Thursday, May 14. The Clute, Texas driver took the lead with just five laps to go and drove to the $20,000 prize on the John Bores 20th Anniversary Celebration, his second such payday in three days. He also earned a $10,000 bonus for winning Tuesday at Fremont Speedway and Attica's special race for a $50,000 paycheck! Teenager Aiden Price lead the first 19 laps of the 40-lap race on Baumann Auto Group/Kistler Engines/Burns Electric Night before Justin Peck used lapped traffic to take the point on laps 20 and 21. Price regained the top spot on lap 22 and 23 only to see 11th starter Tanner Thorson slip by on lap 24. Price drove back to the lead on lap 25 with Thorson regaining the lead on lap 26. A caution on lap 29 set up a wild final 10 laps. Reutzel, who started fifth and hung around there until that caution, put the whip to the Ridge and Sons Racing #87 and drove into second on the restart and immediately jumped to the high side of the track and put pressure on Thorson. The duo traded the lead back and forth every lap at every corner. Reutzel, the current Interstate Batteries High Limit point leader, used traffic, which was utilizing the bottom groove in front or Thorson and shot around him for the lead with just four laps to go and drove to his third career Attica win. Thorson, 15th starter Logan Schuchart, 13th starter Tyler Courtney and Price rounded out the top five. "That's absolutely incredible. Races we had no intentions of going to and saw what they were paying and might as well. I was hoping to win one…didn't think we would win both. I was so tight early and I was racing like I was racing for points or something. Trying not to get crashed and this and that and I was back to eighth and I was like 'what are you doing…it's $30,000 to win you're not racing for points and I just started sending it as hard as I could. I'm wore out..I was driving like I was 18 again. It was a blast…a lot of fun. This track was awesome," said Reutzel beside his Ridge and Sons Racing, Folkens Bros Trucking, Power Plus, Rasmusson Service Center backed machine. Reutzel also donated $1,000 to the Texas Children's Hospital. Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, May 22 with the 410 and 305 sprints and UMP late models in action.
