- Braden Chiaramonte and Max Mittry finish off Nor*Cal Posse Shootout in victory lane
Placerville, CA…El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte started on the front row and dominated the Winged 360 Sprint Car portion of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend on Saturday, claiming the $8,000 top prize at Placerville Speedway. On the Ultimate Sprint Car Series side of things, it was Max Mittry going back-to-back for Chase Johnson Racing. In doing so, he brought home the $1,000 double duty bonus courtesy of Quick Change Liquid Energy Drink and Vertullo Racing 83V. The 30-lap Winged 360 Sprint Car finale at the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout presented by Berco Building Materials saw Braden Chiaramonte outduel pole sitter Justyn Cox on the start to grab the lead. The top side was certainly the place to be and Chiaramonte ran it to perfection each lap. Not even a late restart could stop the past SCCT Rookie of the Year, as he drove away to claim his first career Placerville Speedway Sprint Car triumph. The 19-year-old also set a new Non-Winged Sprint Car track record earlier in the program. That late restart did see Fremont's Shane Golobic sneak by Cox to grab the runner up spot. The three-time Trophy Cup champion had set the ADCO Driveline Fast Time earlier in the evening and then capped it with a solid second place effort in the feature. After finishing runner up on opening night Cox returned on Saturday and put together another strong night of competition while rounding out the podium. The 2023 SCCT titlist won his heat race, the dash and ran second for a majority of the main event. Friday winner Dylan Bloomfield came home fourth, followed by current Placerville Speedway point leader Andy Forsberg in fifth. The remainder of the top 10 was filled out by Tanner Carrick, 17th starting Tony Gomes, Nick Parker, Shane Hopkins and Max Mittry. The Ultimate Sprint Car Series main event showcased a thrilling first 12 laps, with multiple drivers battling it out at the front of the field. Things came to a halt though when contact between second running David Gasper and third place Cole Wakim caused a pileup in turns one and two. Max Mittry had started on the pole and led those initial 12 circuits. When going back green he had his way with things for much of the remaining distance. Lincoln's Tanner Carrick stayed close on one late restart, but there was nothing to stop the fast-moving Mittry. The SCCT Speedweek champion from last year pulled away and crossed under the Ed Entz checkered flag to sweep the weekend with USCS aboard the CJR No. 24 mount. Carrick crossed the stripe in second, followed by 17th starter Nate Schank, who had an exciting run through the field after winning the B-main. Reigning USCS champ Jacob Tuttle and Josh Young completed the top five. Filling out the top 10 were Bradley Terrell, Ryan Timmons, 18th starting Brent Steck, Jake Morgan and Bob Newberry. Another solid field of 28 cars was on hand with the USCS Non-Wingers. Braden Chiaramonte began the night by setting a new track record, clocking an 11.325 around the quarter mile. Placerville Speedway returns to action this coming Saturday May 9th during Mother's Day Madness presented by RJM Builders. All four of the track regulars will be in competition including the Thompson's Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Kings Meats Ltd. Late Models, Red Hawk Resort + Casino Pure Stocks and the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks. - Hudson O'Neal Captures Ralph Latham Memorial Victory at Florence
UNION, KY (May 2, 2026) - Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Indiana took the lead on lap three from Jason Jameson and held off Devin Moran to win the 40th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial on Saturday night at Florence Speedway. O'Neal and Moran entered the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event tied atop the championship standings. With the victory, O'Neal now holds a 30-point advantage over Moran heading into next weekend's events at Farmer City Raceway and Fairbury Speedway. The win marked O'Neal's fourth LOLMDS victory of the season and his 12th overall triumph of 2026, earning him $25,000. Moran finished second, 1.060 seconds behind at the finish, while Ricky Thornton Jr., fresh off his win at Circle City on Friday, rounded out the Big River Steel podium in third. Brandon Sheppard and Garrett Alberson completed the top five. In his 38th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory, the 2023 Series Champion is now tied for seventh on the all-time wins list with Tim McCreadie and Brandon Sheppard. O'Neal survived a tense finish, brushing the turn four wall multiple times in the closing laps, to secure his first Ralph Latham Memorial victory since 2018. The event had not been contested since 2023 due to weather interruptions in recent years. "I've got to tip my hat to Riley (Sheedy), my body guy," O'Neal said. "With a couple laps to go, I was just trying to get everything I could. I got a little loose and backed it into the fence - I knew it wasn't too bad, but I hate that for him, especially with a short turnaround. We'll get it fixed." "I felt like the track was widening out in turns three and four, and I was just waiting for someone to show me their nose." Moran, still seeking his first win in the event that began in 1987, finished second. "I was really good until that one restart," Moran said. "I thought the top would be better, but Thornton got the bottom. Then on another restart, I got a good run and slid him, but I ended up messing both of us up. I apologized - I should have committed to the fence and given him a chance to cross over. I didn't want to race him like that." Thornton, who won the event the last time it was held in 2023, finished third and commented on the late-race contact. "It was just racing - I told him we're not going golfing together anymore," Thornton joked. "Nothing to be mad about. The track was pretty good. When we come back in August, I think they'll widen turns one and two a bit so the top can keep up. Three and four were really good all night. Honestly, these conditions are where I struggle, so to be close to those guys up front, I'm happy." O'Neal's winning SSI Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and backed by Big River Steel, Wheeler Metals, Merrill Bonding, Professional Concrete Cutting and Drilling, O'Neal's Salvage and Recycling, Lineal Contracting, Beeman Lumber, Sunoco Race Fuels, Dicky's Doghouse, Seven Spurs Ranch, Penske Racing Shocks, Lucas Oil, and Indiana USSSA Fast Pitch Softball. Completing the top ten were Max Blair, Jason Jameson, Brian Shirley, Kyle Bronson, and Dan Ebert. - Exciting finishes highlight opening night of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend
Placerville, CA…Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield and Redding's Max Mittry shared victory lane at Placerville Speedway on Friday, each picking up exhilarating late race wins on opening night of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout/ Legends Weekend presented by Berco Building Materials. Both drivers were competing aboard unfamiliar cars, as Bloomfield piloted the C&M Motorsports No. 7c Winged Sprinter, while Mittry brought the Chase Johnson Racing No. 24 back to victory lane with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The 30-lap Winged Sprint Car feature began with 2023 SCCT champion Justyn Cox rocketing into the lead. An inordinate amount of caution flags came out in the main event, which forced Cox to deal with numerous restarts. He did a tremendous job every time while keeping the field at bay for much of the contest. Bloomfield had settled into second and closed the gap a few times as lapped traffic came into play, but each moment that would occur, yellow flag fever appeared. A final five lap shootout then came into play and during it, things began to heat up. With drivers continuing to fly around the high side Bloomfield closed in quickly with the white flag soon approaching. Heading into the final set of corners Bloomfield charged to the bottom in turn three and drove up in front of Cox. The pair battled tooth and nail, side by side down to the checkered flag with Bloomfield coming out on top by the narrowest of margins. The thrilling conclusion was his third career Placerville Speedway triumph and the second of 2026. Cox continued his early season speed by claiming the ADCO Driveline Fast Time Award to begin the evening and coming home second in the feature. It marked his second runner up effort of the Placerville campaign. Reigning track champion Tony Gomes gave it a nice run in the main event, carving his way from 10th to third while Max Mittry and Nick Parker completed the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Tanner Carrick, Shane Golobic, Luke Hayes, Michael Sellers and Jake Haulot. It was a nice recovery for Golobic, who brought out a caution while running third on lap five. In the 30 lap Ultimate Sprint Car Series finale it was Max Mittry who took command early on and had his way with things for most of the race. Much like the Winged 360 main event, yellow flags slowed the flow of things at times during the contest. Once some green flag racing was put in the books though the action became fast and furious on the quarter mile bullring. Drivers raced high, low and in the middle with close battles taking place throughout the pack. As the race wound down El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte closed on Mittry and the pair proceeded to put on an epic show for the lead. The incredible clash saw Chiaramonte officially lead lap 28, before Mittry sliced his way back by, leading the white flag lap. Mittry would go on to cross under the Ed Entz checkered flag for a very special victory aboard the Chase Johnson Racing No. 24 mount. Friday night marked the first time CJR has been back in competition since Johnson's accident at Silver Dollar Speedway in 2024. For Mittry it was his second career Sprint Car victory after getting his initial triumph one week prior at Watsonville Speedway. Chiaramonte, Cole Wakim, Ryan Timmons and Jacob Tuttle rounded out the top five. Both Wakim and Tuttle were fun to watch while they drove the ragged edge of Placerville Speedway. Completing the top 10 were Shane Hopkins, Tanner Carrick, Nate Schank, Austin Cato and Alex Peck. A strong field of 30 cars competed on opening night with USCS. Blake Bower started the evening by setting new Non-Winged Sprint Car track record with a lap of 11.502. The Nor*Cal Posse Shootout concludes tonight with an $8,000-to-win Winged Sprint Car feature, along with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series back in action as well. - Thornton Denies O'Neal for Circle City Victory on Friday Night
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 1, 2026) - Ricky Thornton Jr. tracked down race-long leader Hudson O'Neal and made the winning pass on lap 41, then held on to capture his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing victory of the season Friday night at Circle City Raceway. Thornton's 58th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win earned him $15,000 in the Series' second-ever visit to the Indianapolis facility. O'Neal finished second, with Max Blair rounding out the Big River Steel podium in third. Mike Marlar finished fourth, followed by Devin Moran in fifth. Starting sixth, Thornton now moves into a tie with Brandon Sheppard for fourth in the championship standings heading into Saturday's event at Florence Speedway. "I felt like we had a really good car all night, but I just couldn't quite get it going early. In the feature, everything came together," said the Chandler, Arizona native. "Watching midget and sprint car races here, you know how technical the top can be and that the bottom will eventually come in. Max (Blair) was strong down there, and after that caution, when Marlar chose the bottom, I knew I had to make my move." "I got by Max on the restart, and once I cleared Mikey (Marlar), I felt like I had a shot at Hudson. I knew it might take lapped traffic to slow him down, and it worked out for us." With his runner-up finish, O'Neal is now tied with Moran for the championship points lead heading into the Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway. "It was probably better not to be the leader at the end," O'Neal said. "Ricky was really good late in the race. He probably saved his tires better than I did and was able to move around more. When you're leading, you're kind of stuck picking a lane and hoping it holds. No excuses—we're happy to finish second, even though it's tough to lead that long and get passed late." Blair continued his strong run, recording his ninth consecutive top five finish. "The restart where Ricky got by me actually helped me a bit," Blair said. "I knew once Marlar picked the bottom on that last restart, it was going to be tough to hold those guys off. It was a lot of fun racing with Ricky for as long as we did." Thornton's winning Koehler Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and backed by Hoker Trucking, Knight's Companies, Coltman Farms Racing, Capital Waste, Strange Oval, Certified Inspection Services, Sunoco Race Fuels, and SI Towing and Recovery. Completing the top ten were Dan Ebert, Josh Rice, Brandon Sheppard, Brandon Overton, and Carson Ferguson. - Brent Sexton Gaining Steam, Set for Placerville Sprint Car Battle
Lakeside, CA — April 29, 2026 — After turning in a strong performance last Friday night at Watsonville Speedway, veteran sprint car driver Brent Sexton is heading back north this weekend for the 8th Annual Nor Cal Posse Shootout with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway. Watsonville is quickly becoming one of Sexton's favorite stops, and he added another solid run to his résumé there last weekend. Returning to the track where he scored a fifth-place finish in 2025, the night did not start the way he had hoped. In his first-ever race in a winged 360 sprint car, Sexton qualified 15th out of 18 cars with a time of 12.304. He then started and finished fifth in his preliminary heat race. When the green flag dropped for the main event, however, he showed his trademark determination. Starting on the inside of the eighth row, the three-time lightning sprint car champion charged forward in the #3G, advancing five positions to finish 10th. The result marked his seventh top-10 finish in nine main event starts in 2026. Twenty-four hours later, Sexton made the trip to Merced Speedway for his debut with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. Unfortunately, rain arrived after qualifying, forcing the cancellation of the remainder of the program. Now, with a 540-mile journey from his Lakeside, California home, Sexton sets his sights on Placerville Speedway for his fourth Ultimate Sprint Car Series appearance of the season. His most impressive outing to date came at Thunderbowl Raceway on March 28th, when he charged from 14th to seventh in the main event. Three weeks later at the same track, a sticking throttle ended his night early, resulting in an 18th-place finish. Racing at Placerville this weekend is expected to draw a strong USCS field at one of Northern California's premier sprint car tracks. It will give Sexton another opportunity to build momentum as the season rolls on. Adult tickets at Placerville are $25 each night. Seniors (62+), military personnel, and juniors (ages 12-17) are $22. Kids ages 6-11 are $10, and children five and under are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online at the following links: Friday: https://www.eventsprout.com/event/psr-050126 Saturday: https://www.eventsprout.com/event/psr-050226 Placerville Speedway is located at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. Take US-50 to the Forni Road/Placerville Drive exit, then head north on Placerville Drive to the fairgrounds. The physical address is 100 Placerville Drive, Placerville, CA 95667. - Williams Grove Cancels May 1
Mechanicsburg -The expectation for evening rain coupled with cold race time temperatures and already wet grounds have caused Williams Grove Speedway to cancel the Friday, May 1 racing program. The decision was made at Noon on Friday to allow fans and teams to make alternate plans. Williams Grove Speedway will host the HVAC Distributors Morgan Cup for World of Outlaws and Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars coming up May 8 and 9 at 7:30 pm both nights. The HVAC Distributors Morgan Cup will find the outlaws and Pennsylvania Posse sprint car drivers squaring off in a 25 lap main on Friday with the big prize up for grabs on Saturday night when a 30-lap feature is contested. The winner will score $12,000 on Friday night before Saturday's finale pays $15,000 to win plus another $5,000 for Morgan Cup bragging rights, setting up a $20,000 take for the finale winner. Named after late track owner Morgan Hughes, the HVAC Distributors Morgan Cup is contested each May to establish bragging rights between the outlaws and Williams Grove drivers. The home of the Morgan Cup champion lays claim to the Morgan Cup trophy itself for the ensuing year, either at the speedway office in Mechanicsburg or at World of Outlaws headquarters in Concord, North Carolina. Keep up to date on all the latest speedway news and information by visiting the oval's official website at www.williamsgrove.com or by visiting the oval on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok or Instagram.
