- Andy Forsberg becomes first 3-time winner of the Tyler Wolf Memorial to open Speedweek
Chico, CA…Reigning SCCT Speedweek champion Andy Forsberg endured a wild 35-lap feature in front of a large and vocal crowd on Friday night, becoming the first three-time winner of the Tyler Wolf Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. The victory marked Forsberg's seventh career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph and came aboard his familiar Pacific Highway Rentals/ Oroville Tax No. 92 mount. It was also the Auburn veteran's first win at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico since 2021. "Racing on these types of tracks isn't exactly my cup of a tea, but I just focused on being smooth, hitting my marks and hoped the guys in front of me wore out their tires," Forsberg said afterwards. "I can't say enough for about my team for working their tails off and giving me a great car. Thank you to all the fans for packing this place tonight and we hope to see you back at the Gold Cup next month." Sacramento youngster Austin Wood was the story for much of the night after setting the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time, before claiming the Tiner-Hirst Ent. Heat Race and the High Sierra Industries Dash. Wood jumped out front at the waving of the green flag and distanced himself from the rest of the field. After about 15-laps however, track conditions began to change as rubber came down, and made tire wear a prevalent factor in the outcome. Drivers continued to race hard throughout the field however and kept fans on the edge of their seats. Modesto's Tony Gomes moved into the second spot and began to reel in the leader after several circuts. Following a caution with nine laps to go the ensuing restart brough drama as Gomes grabbed the lead by slicing the inside of Wood, who slowed that same lap as his right rear tire went down. Wood's bid at a clean sweep ended in heartbreak with him driving back to the pit area. With Gomes up front now it brought Auburn's Andy Forsberg into the second spot and Northwest drver Kinzer Cox in third. As more tire issues continued for several cars the final caution of the feature waved with six circuits remaining. During the last restart Forsberg stayed tucked to Gomes' tail tank and then shot to his inside, making it a side-by-side battle for the top spot. Coming to the line to click off lap 32 it was Forsberg now up front. Seconds after that Gomes slowed with a flat right rear tire, as did a few other drivers. With Forsberg up front he had Cox right there with him down to the wire. As the leaders rounded turn four the final time, another car lost the right rear tire just ahead of their path. Both the front runners did a great job to take evasive action, moving down and crossing the stripe with Forsberg claiming the win just ahead of Cox. Cox, hailing from Cottage Grove, Oregon was making just his fourth career Silver Dollar Speedway start and did an exceptional job to record a stellar runner up finish. He will be a certain favorite over the remainder of Speedweek. Sacramento's DJ Freitas also did an impressive job saving his tires and weaving through traffic to claim his first career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour podium in third. Freitas won the B-main and carved his way from 20th to take home the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award. Yuba City's Steele Powell must also be commended for an excellent drive, as he moved forward late to tally his best ever finish with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour in fourth. Braden Chiaramonte rebounded beautifully after suffering a flat tire with six laps left. The El Cajon driver went to the work area and charged all the way back to round out the top five. Completing the top 10 at the Tyler Wolf Memorial were Jennifer Osborne, Aydan Saunders, Max Mittry, Levi Klatt and Adrianna Demartini. A total of 34 cars competed on night one of Speedweek. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek continues tonight at Placerville Speedway for the $5,000-to-win Gold Pan Rampage. - JUSTIN SANDERS SURVIVES, WINS WILD NARC HK CLASSIC OPENER
(7/18/25 - Andrew Kunas) Watsonville, CA ... Justin Sanders emerged victorious after one of the wildest NARC sprint car main events of the season Friday, taking the opening night feature of the Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway. Sanders inherited the lead with eight laps completed when early leader Bud Kaeding was bit by the treacherous cushion in Turn 1 and was sent flying off the track. Sanders led the rest of the 30-lapper for his NARC-leading fifth race of the season, but had to fend off Bud's brother Tim Kaeding along the way and wait through several cautions and red flags before finally taking the checkered flag. It was the second NARC win at Ocean Speedway this season for Sanders, who also captured the May 16th event at the Watsonville clay oval. Sanders won last year's Howard Kaeding Classic, his second HK win overall, but while Saturday's finale remains, it was special for Sanders still to take the win on the first night of a now two-night event that previously had honored the patriarch of the Kaeding Family as a special event guest since 2011. This year's event, however, took on special meaning with Howard passing away during the off-season. Out front after Bud Kaeding's misfortune, Sanders early on was challenged by Tim Kaeding, but found his groove and managed his way around the challenging top side of the race track. Despite the many cautions and red flags, of which there were five, Sanders still had to deal with slower traffic on occasion. Sanders managed to hold off a determined Tim in the closing laps for the win aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. The $5,000 victory went with Sanders' other NARC Ocean win, a pair of wins at Silver Dollar Speedway, and a Dirt Cup preliminary at Skagit Speedway. Friday's Howard Kaeding Classic opener was probably the one that required the most patience out of Sanders this season. Tim Kaeding, racing in memory of his grandfather, finished second aboard the Emadco Disposal-sponsored Williams Motorsports No. 0 Maxwill-powered Maxim. Kaeding, one of California's most accomplished sprint car racers following his grandfather Howard and father Brent, thanked teams and fans for their support of the event this weekend. Kaeding though will now be focused on bettering his position by one spot on Saturday in an event he has not won before and will want to add to his already impressive resume. Behind Sanders and Kaeding, there were constant battles for and shuffling of positions throughout the Top 10. Dylan Bloomfield turned in one of his best finishes of the season after starting eighth. He battled with former NARC champion Sean Becker to move into fourth place and late in the race he battled with and passed another former NARC champion in D.J. Netto to move into third, and finished there aboard the Silva's All Natural Beef-sponsored Vertullo Racing No. 83v Kistler-powered Maxim. After being bit by the Turn 1 cushion and spinning out, Bud Kaeding went to the work area before returning to the track and racing his way back up to finish 12th. Bud, also one of California's most accomplished sprint car racers following his father and grandfather, is a two-time Howard Kaeding Classic winner but will be looking for a special third HK win on Saturday. Netto, who entered the event with the NARC points lead, finished fourth aboard the Penny Newman Grain-sponsored Netto Ag No. 88n Rider-powered KPC. Kaleb Montgomery, another driver who raced hard throughout, came from 13th and made late passes to secure fifth place aboard the Luxon Real Estate-sponsored Montgomery Racing No. 3 Speedway-powered Maxim. Becker, after starting tenth, bounced back from a crash last Saturday at Petaluma Speedway and finished sixth, followed by Nick Parker and the 14th starting Tyler Thompson. Tanner Carrick earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod, coming from 18th to finish ninth. Dominic Gorden came back from a trip to the work area to round out the Top 10. Bud Kaeding won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash to secure the pole position for the feature event, with Sanders starting outside him. The Winters Performance Last Chance Qualifier was won by Jesse Schlotfeldt, who took Dominic Scelzi, Billy Aton and Jason Chisum with him to the feature race. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Bud Kaeding, Gauge Garcia, Shane Golobic and Tim Kaeding. Bloomfield paced the 30-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 10.763 seconds around the ¼-mile clay oval, topping the second flight in a split field. That narrowly bettered Landon Brooks, who paced the first flight with a 10.768-second lap. - Wagaman Wins Williams Grove Outlaws Tune-Up, Norris Sweeps 358s
Mechanicsburg - Troy Wagaman Jr. throttled Mike Heffner's No. 27 to the sprint car win at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, scoring a clean sweep of the evening by setting fast time, winning his heat, the dash and the 25-lap main event in the World of Outlaws Tune Up. Including $300 for fast time, Wagaman took $6,300 back to his hometown of Hanover for his fourth career win at the historic oval. In twin 358 sprint mains, Hanover's Dylan Norris took home the loot in both features. Wagaman started on the pole of the 410 sprint main and entered the rear of the field on lap six, trailed by fourth starter Lance Dewease. The feature would go non-stop from start to finish with a blistering pace being set by the leaders as traffic played a factor in action at the front of the field for the final 19 laps. For the most part Wagaman was able to navigate traffic and maintain an advantage over Dewease but by lap 15 amid hard racing between the backmarkers, Dewease was able to mount a challenge. And he was close enough to capitalize for the lead on lap 21 when Wagaman got held up in the first corner. Dewease used the cushion to blast around for control and duck down in front of Wagaman as the pair shot onto the backchute. But then ironically Dewease got boxed in by the same traffic that held up Wagaman moments earlier, allowing the Hanover pilot to throttle back out in front for the victory. Wagaman took the win by .308 seconds over Dewease with Kody Hartlaub riding home in third. Freddie Rahmer finished fourth with Justin Whittall completing the top five. Sixth through 10th went to TJ Stutts, Chad Trout, Cameron Smith, Matt Campbell and Tyler Ross. Heats went to Wagaman, Stutts and Hartlaub with Wagaman earning the pole for the feature by claiming the dash. Wagaman set fast time with a lap of 16.426 seconds. Dylan Norris wired the field in the make-up Dirty Deeds 25 limited sprint feature held over from April 4. He was chased early by Brett Wanner who would give up second to Andy Best on lap 13. Best finished in second by .923 seconds followed by Wanner, Scott Fisher and Nash Ely. The regularly scheduled 358 sprint main, a Summer Series event, saw Wanner lead the first 10 laps before eighth starter Norris drove into command. Wanner took the lead back from Norris on the 12th circuit but eventually again succumbed to Norris with nine laps to go. Fourth starter Derek Locke raced into second with seven laps to go but failed to challenge Norris for the win. Best was third followed by Wanner and Chase Gutshall. The wins were the fifth and sixth of Norris' career at Williams Grove. Heats went to Wanner, Adam Carberry, Chad Criswell and Cole Young with Frankie Herr winning the consolation race. - Brunner, Bauman earn Progressive American Flat Track motorcycle wins at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (July 18, 2025) - Progressive Flat Track motorcycles came to Lucas Oil Speedway for the first time on Friday night and put on a show, with Trevor Brunner making a last-turn pass for the feature win in the AFT Singles. Brunner of Aurora, Ind., sailed around season points leader Tom Drane on the outside in the final turn to prevail in a thriller. Drane had led nearly the entire race, taking over the top spot on lap two. Brunner and Chase Saathoff gradually cut into the lead over the final laps and Brunner was able to make the big move coming out of turn four coming to the checkered flag to win by .069 of a second. Saathoff was right behind in third. The race went for six minutes, plus two laps. Brunner made the most of the allotted time and distance. "It feels amazing. I feel like I got about 300 pounds lifted off my chest," Brunner said of his first win of 2025. "I knew I could get it done. We were missing the little things and I think it was a lot mentally for myself. "Man, this facility is awesome. These fans are awesome. This experience at Lucas Oil Speedway has been awesome and sticking around to watch us do our thing. I couldn't have picked out more of a dogfight for that one. I had to be really patient." Points leader Bauman prevails in AFT Super Twins: Briar Bauman of Salinas, Calif., led all the way to earn his fifth Super Twins victory of the season as he held off a late-race charge from Dallas Daniels by .329 seconds. Bauman took the lead with Brandon Robinson running second in the early going. Bauman led Davis Fisher by 1.33 seconds at the halfway timed mark at four minutes before Daniels rolled into the runner-up spot and began to cut into the lead. But Daniels wasn't able to reel him in for the last-lap pass. Fisher held on for third, nearly three seconds behind Bauman. "I have a great team. We're gonna keep chipping at it," said Bauman, adding "that got a little too lose for comfort" at the finish. "We started on the third row and a second place is like a win tonight," Daniels said. - Davenport Scores First Career Huset's Victory
BRANDON, SD (July 18, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport led all 40 laps to win the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing Friday night event at Huset's Speedway. Davenport had to hold off a charging Brandon Sheppard after a caution with six laps to go for his first-ever win at Huset's, worth $10,000. The race was the second of three nights of action in the 15th Annual Silver Dollar Nationals Presented by MyRacePass. Sheppard, who restarted fifth after the race's only caution with 34 laps scored, moved to the outside of the track after seeing most of the race run around the bottom of the 1/3-mile oval, to finish second by 0.194 seconds. Ricky Thornton Jr. rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third. Devin Moran, who won the Thursday night race, finished fourth, with Hudson O'Neal rounding out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the sixth time this season and for the 89th time in his career, the 3-time series champion led by as much as 3 seconds until the late race caution. With the win, Davenport is now just 10 points behind Thornton heading into Saturday night's $75,000-to-win finale. "I'm not one to sugarcoat things, but that was pretty dull until Brandon (Sheppard) got on the wheel. I wasn't really sure where to go; Cory (Fostvedt) was pointing me up, but I wasn't sure if it was down there or somewhere else, so I was just trying to block. It got pretty rough on the bottom, but overall, we were just good enough to hang on," said the Blairsville, Georgia native. "It's really tough out there. I mean, we just ran 38 laps on the bottom before I started to move around, and I really didn't move up there. These guys—Brandon, Ricky, and Devin—are going to try to move around, not just ride in line waiting for the caution to come out. I was trying to make my line as wide as I could, so congratulations to them. I know Brandon is going to race me clean—that's just one thing about this place being so narrow. I will have to go back and watch the video, and I'm sure he got a couple of runs on me. But as I went back down to the bottom, there's just not enough room to slide somebody. If we could get them to widen this place out and take that berm down even more, this place would race awesome." Sheppard's late race heroics just about paid off in the final five laps with his fifth-to-second-place run. "At that point, you don't know what's going to happen. From my perspective, it's been a one-lane track at the bottom the whole race. I knew at some point it would move up. It actually developed a few ruts, and I think that kept the bottom wet enough for us to stay fast down there. While we were racing, it was just blowing enough crumbs up top that we never had an early caution to lay it down and really pack it in, allowing others to run up there, especially those forced to do so by starting on the outside. When we went green, you don't have anything left to lose - send it in there, and it felt really good. I knew there were only six laps to go, so I pushed it as hard as I could for those six laps, but we just came up a little short. "I know I got the car about as good as we're going to get it. We changed tires right before we headed out on the track, and I think we made the right call. Clearly, the bottom was the place to be during the first half of the race. When JD fired on that restart, I fired with him, then I ran into him and knocked the nose out, and I was a little too tight after that. Overall, I think it was still a good night. Hopefully, we can get a win tomorrow night." The winner's Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dyna Gro Seed, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Looks for First 2025 Win at Perris Auto Speedway This Saturday
Chino, CA - July 17, 2025 — Coming off his best Perris Auto Speedway finish of the 2025 season, a fifth-place result on June 21st, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to the Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday night, July 19th. Spectator gates at the 29-year old speed plant will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will be at 7:00. For Tafoya, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday, it will be his fifth start of 2025 at Perris. In the first four races at the track this year, he has achieved three top-10 finishes. Besides his fifth-place showing last month, he came home eighth at the track on April 5th and was ninth in the annual Salute to Indy at the end of May. His fifth-place run last month equaled his performance at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 22nd. The only race at Perris this year that he did not finish in the top 10 occurred on March 1st, when his belts came loose in the car, and he finished 13th. Before the 30-lap main event last month, Tafoya qualified sixth fastest in the 20 car field. He then placed fourth in his 10-lap heat race. The Chino Hills, California resident started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the main event. He ended up taking fifth after a tough battle for positions five through 10 late in the race. On Saturday, Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Sprint Car Champion and the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will only be making his third July appearance at the local track since the end of Covid. In 2021, he finished third in the July race on the oval affectionately known as The PAS, and last year he was seventh. In 2022 and 2023, he spent July racing with the USAC National Sprint Car Series in the Midwest. To see Tafoya and the rest of the USAC/CRA stars in action on Saturday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will wave at 7:00. - Moran Opens Silver Dollar Nationals with Thursday Victory
BRANDON, SD (July 17, 2025) - Defending Silver Dollar Nationals champion Devin Moran continued his success from a year ago at Huset's Speedway, winning the $10,000-to-win Thursday portion of the 15th Annual Silver Dollar Nationals presented by MyRacePass. It was Moran's sixth Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing win of the season. Ricky Thornton Jr. finished second, reclaiming the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship presented by ARP points lead by 20 points ahead of Jonathan Davenport, who ended up seventh. Bobby Pierce earned the Hoker Trucking Hard Charger award, coming from the 11th starting position to finish third and round out the Big River Steel Podium. Garrett Alberson and Hudson O'Neal completed the top five drivers. Thornton took the lead at the start of the 40-lap main event and led the first four laps until Moran, who started on the outside of the second row, overtook him for the lead. Moran then led the remaining 36 laps of the race to win by 0.917 seconds over Thornton. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 21st time in his career, the Dresden, Ohio native took the first step in defending his Silver Dollar Nationals win from one year ago. "Man, this is nothing like what I grew up on. For some reason, when the track gets like that, I feel like I can drive it really well. The guys just gave me an amazing car, you know. This is the first time we've had this car out since the Show-Me 100, and it was right back to where we were. I felt like my car was so good that I could be patient, and once I found a gap, I could go. I knew if I couldn't get by them, Ricky couldn't get by me, so I just bided my time. I want to give a huge shoutout to Huset's. They've been working on that berm, and they said they're going to keep working on it, but the track was phenomenal tonight. It had a little more moisture than I realized, but they did a great job for us." Thornton tried to stay with Moran through heavy lapped traffic and had to fend off Tuesday night's winner at Shelby County, Bobby Pierce, to secure the second spot. "Whenever you become the point leader in anything, it's a big deal. The only downside is that I lost 10 points to Devin come playoff time, so congratulations to him. His performance was really good, and I felt like I had a really good car too, but sometimes late in the race, you just don't know where to be. I thought the top would be better, which is why I was watching Shirley—they were a little better around the top in one and two than I was. On that restart, I figured I'd go to the top, but then I saw Devin underneath me, and I was thinking if he drives by me in one and two, I'm kind of screwed. It didn't work out for us, but I feel like we have a lot of good momentum heading into tomorrow." Pierce, who won the Silver Dollar Nationals in 2019, charged from the inside of row number six to round out the podium. "This place is definitely up on the wheel. There's not really a point where you can relax on this track, but through that corner you're always up on the wheel. It's usually a little choppy into three when we're hauling the mail around there. You can pick up a lot of speed if you hit it right, but if the car bounces the wrong way, you lose some speed. It's tough, but we tried our best to rebound tonight. We did a pretty good job, and if that one caution hadn't come out, it really got to me because I had just moved up to fifth and was right under JD, then the caution came out and I dropped back to seventh, so I had to fight for those positions again." The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Bomag, Millwood Plumbing, Refuel Wellness, Anthony's Pizza, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, Car Source Auto, Midwest Sheet Metal, Red Oak Pub, McHugh Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, Eibach Springs, VP Fuels, Phillips CPA, Smoky Mountain Speedway, and Haulin' Haskell's.
