- Qualifying Nights Released For 39th Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla (January 5, 2025) Five nights of racing, with every position counting towards Saturday, makes the Chili Bowl Nationals powered by NOS Energy Drink statistically among the most challenging events to prevail in, much less make the show, and the first draft of nights for the 39th running of the worlds greatest Midget event have been released. Subject to change by the day, the current list of entrants sits at 371, which ties it with 2023's final entry count, and is just nine shy so far of 2024. Drivers from 35 states, five countries, plus five event champions are set to take on Tulsa Expo Raceway clay from January 13-18, with two Chili Bowl Champions already picking up Golden Drillers this past week during the 40th annual Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout. Grabbing two wins in Outlaw and A-Class competition, Kyle Larson went full send on a third against Christopher Bell during the night's 55-lap Outlaw Non-Wing championship event with every angle of attack imaginable, with the race coming down to a photo finish with Bell prevailing. Setting the standards and expectations at the highest level for next week's Chili Bowl Nationals, last week's Shootout is not the first time the two NASCAR veterans have battled for a Golden Driller, as Bell denied Larson his first Chili Bowl triumph with a last lap pass in 2019. Always an interesting mix of feature starters, event rookies, and talent from across the racing spectrum, each night offers its own unique set of challenges. Ask anyone who has raced it will tell you there is no easy night, and you still have to race them all again on Saturday. As of January 5, 2025, the nights sort out like this: JANUARY 13: MONDAY'S 2ND OPINION AUTO CENTER QUALIFYING NIGHT 0H Cap Henry (Republic, OH) 00 Brecken Reese (Canyon, TX) P1 Paul White (Waco, TX) 1K Kyle Larson (Elk Grove, CA) 2H Nick Hoffman (Mooresville, NC) 2MD Aiden Price (Huntersville, NC) 2NP DRIVER TBA 2W Luke Storer (Portland, VIC) 2Z Zach Blurton (Quinter, KS) 3V Jim Vanzant (Prescott, AZ) 4 Adam Bolyard (Rushville, IN) 4E Maverick Elkins (Alvin, TX) 5F Danny Frye III (O'Fallon, MO) 5P Justin Peck (Monrovia, IN) 5X Jacob Dykstra (Port Colborne, ON) 6B Brylee Kilmer (Goldsby, OK) 7D Michelle Decker (Guthrie, OK) 7E Carson Bolden (Quinlan, TX) 7N Kris Carroll (Claremore, OK) 8 Alex Sewell (Broken Arrow, OK) 8D Jeffrey Abbey (Boyd, TX) 8H Dakota Highley (Greenwood, AR) 8L Cooper Miller (Graham, TX) K9 Jameson Spies (Ventura, CA) 9 Emilio Hoover (Broken Arrow, OK) 9B Brian Schwabauer (Hastings, NE) 11G Hayden Mabe (Sand Springs, OK) 11J Todd Jackson (Kansas City, MO) 11P DRIVER TBA 14K Brandon Carr (Sheffield, ) 15C Carter Chevalier (Ham Lake, MN) 15J Jack Potter (Lees Summit, MO) 15K Nathan Kilwine (Glenville, MN) 16R Kyle Jones (Kennedale, TX) 16T Kevin Newton (Terre Haute, IN) 17D DRIVER TBA 17M Logan Prickett (Shelbyville, IN) 17W Shane Golobic (Fremont, CA) 21D Justin Dickerson (Pittsboro, IN) 23D Devon Dobie (Wapakoneta, OH) 26 Corbin Rueschenberg (Mesa, AZ) 27 Keith Rauch (Broomfield, CO) 30X Larry Bratti (Springdale, AR) 32 Gary Taylor (Snohomish, WA) 32T Trey Marcham (New Castle, OK) 33M Charlie Louden (Camden, AR) 39X Travis Degaton (Sacramento, CA) 42K Kevin Battefeld (Lewiston, IL) 44A Adam Andretti (Brownsburg, IN) 45J Roger Crockett (Broken Arrow, OK) 50 Daniel Adler (St. Louis, MO) 50C Dane Culver (Riverside, CA) 51B Joe B. - Bell Fends Off Larson At The Line For Tulsa Shootout Glory In Non-Wing Outlaw Championship Event
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 4, 2025) In what will go down as possibly the wildest 55 lap event ever contested atop Tulsa Expo Raceway clay, the final race of the 40th annual Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink came down to a slide job throwing, literal wall riding showdown between Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell, with Bell fending off the charge of Larson by 0.188-seconds at the checkered flag. "I've got four words. Thank you Joe Gibbs" echoed through the SageNet Center as Bell stood in Victory Lane. Met with cheers of approval, Bell continued, "I live for moments like that. Driving these racecars, especially here in Tulsa, there is nothing else like it, and maybe after today, Kyle [Larson] will actually like Micros and want to come back." Chasing Blake Hahn at the start, Bell was left to contend with Aiden Purdue, who snagged second on the opening lap. Rounding the hub for the first few laps, the field began migrating up the track just after the tenth revolution. Still working the bottom, restarts would see Purdue shoot the top on one and Bell the other as Hahn began altering his line top in one and two, bottom in three and four. Trading lines through a few mid-race restarts, Purdue fell to third on Lap 16 with Bell in hot pursuit. Having to reset approach as the pair pulled even more than once, Bell would finally take over on Lap 36. Getting some distance as 10th starting Emerson Axsom rolled to second, the pair were about to be left in the dust as Steven Snyder, Jr. came roaring to the front of the field from the 21st starting spot on Lap 44, but as the saying goes "it's not over, 'til it's over" and that would come to fruition two laps later when Snyder slammed the cushion entering the first and second turns. Trying valiantly to hold on, it was not to be as the right rear tire flattened. Staying green until Lap 50, Bell led on the restart with Axsom with Larson in tow. Runner-up next time around after Axsom bounced hard off the cushion, Larson went from running to the wall, to running on the wall. Using the nearly two-foot tall cushion as a launch pad at both ends of the Tulsa Expo Raceway, Larson nearly put all four tires on the stacked clay and set his sights on Bell. To the final lap and only a few car lengths separating them to the backstretch, Larson switched tactics entering the final two turns. Following Bell's line to the bottom, the No. 83k stayed on the hub as Bell slid to the cushion. Pulling even for the lead off the final turn, Bell would not be denied. Larson, in second, was followed by Emerson Axsom. Fourth went to Ricky Thornton, Jr., with K.J. Snow moving 18th to fifth. A record-setting year for the Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink, 1,855 entries were received for the 2025 event, with 1,798 confirmed among 762 drivers from 43 states and five countries driving 1,105 cars. A total of 389 races were contested, with 3,682 green flag laps completed. Kyle Larson was the only repeat winner on the night, with wins in A-Class and Outlaw. First-time winners included Brent Crews in Stock Non-Wing, Haidyn Hansen in Restricted, and Brexton Busch in Junior Sprints. Hyper Racing Outlaw Non-Wing consisted of 411 drivers. The Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout takes place at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, located inside the SageNet Center in Tulsa, Okla. Fans can also follow the Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout at https://www.facebook.com/TulsaShootout and on Twitter (@TulsaShootout). 40th Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout Tulsa Expo Raceway (Tulsa, Okla.) - Larson Doubles Up On Drillers With A-Class Charge At The Tulsa Shootout
Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (January 4, 2025) One Golden Driller deserves another, and Kyle Larson picked up his second of the day in fine fashion with a charge from 12th to the front in EVO Fuel Injection A-Class competition at the 40th annual Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink. Five leaders over 30 laps, the onset saw Parker Perry shooting to the point from the right of the front row to lead the opening seven laps. Back into the mix after slipping to second from the pole, the No. 71E of Emerson Axsom rolled to first on Lap 8 with insanity brewing as Daison Pursley and Clinton Boyles took their battle to the front. Advantage Boyles on Lap 9, lines swapped in every turn as Pursley shot by on Lap 11. Coming around the complete Lap 12, Boyles slid back to the lead, but contact between the two would send both crashing off the fourth turn, and in doing so, advanced the charging No. 83K of Larson to the front of the field. Keeping hold of the lead from the restart on, Larson would pull to a 1.484-second advantage at the checkered flag. Parker Perry settled for second, with Jett Yantis third after rolling forward 18 positions and nearly grabbing second off the final turn. Cole Schroeder and Christopher Bell made up the top five. A record setting 404 drivers entered to compete in EVO Fuel Injection A-Class competition at the 40th annual Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink. The Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout takes place at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, located inside the SageNet Center in Tulsa, Okla.
