- Sheppard Handles Hagerstown Field on Sunday Night
HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 26, 2026) - Brandon Sheppard dominated Sunday night at Hagerstown Speedway, capturing the Conococheague 40 for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in commanding fashion. The New Berlin, Illinois native earned $10,000 for his third LOLMDS victory of the season, taking the lead from Brandon Overton on lap three and pacing the remainder of the race. Sheppard crossed the finish line more than five seconds ahead of Overton, with 11th-starting Hudson O'Neal rounding out the Big River Steel podium in third. Current championship points leader Devin Moran finished fourth, and Max Blair completed the top five. Overton led the opening two laps of the annual event, which marked the Series' 16th appearance at Hagerstown Speedway, before Sheppard surged past him for the top spot on lap three. Once out front, Sheppard quickly built a commanding lead, reaching lapped traffic by lap nine. The race's only caution came on lap 10, but it did little to slow his momentum. On the restart, Sheppard remained firmly in control, leading the rest of the way in a race that featured just one caution flag. The victory marked the 38th of Sheppard's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series career—and his first at Hagerstown Speedway. "It was awesome. Mark, Dan, Austin, Joel, Steve Baker, and everyone at Rocket Chassis have been working their tails off," Sheppard said. "They've been giving me a great car night in and night out. There's so much competition out here—you can have the fastest car and still not win—but I really feel like we've been fast all year. I don't think I've felt bad at the track once this season." "You never really know how big of a lead you have. My signal guy showed me it was comfortable, but I wasn't overdriving. I was going as fast as my tires would allow. A couple of times I pushed hard and felt the left rear getting hot, so I backed it down and let it come back to me." Overton, who was aiming for a clean sweep of the night, settled for the runner-up finish. "He (Sheppard) had a little different tire than we did. I probably tried to block him too early—I moved down and pushed up the track," Overton said. "Hats off to them—they did a great job. We were good, just not quite good enough." O'Neal, who started sixth row inside, closed the gap late and now sits 25 points behind Moran in the championship standings heading into next weekend's events at Circle City Raceway and Florence Speedway. "We just needed to qualify better," O'Neal said. "We weren't very good in qualifying and probably over-adjusted for the rough conditions. We got back to our normal program for the feature and were really good. We just didn't get a caution at the right time. I was able to close in during lapped traffic, but Brandon was able to navigate through and pull away. Thanks to Hagerstown and Lucas Oil for the effort—they gave us a great racetrack." Sheppard's winning Mark Richards Racing Rocket Chassis is powered by a Durham Racing Engine and backed by Valvoline, Seubert Calf Ranches, Ace Metal Works, Performance Bodies, Petroff Towing, Sunoco Race Fuels, Franklin Enterprises, Gunter's Honey, Stiles Marine and Maintenance, and Collins Brothers Towing. Completing the top ten were Ricky Thornton Jr., Brian Shirley, Kyle Bronson, and Carson Ferguson. - Hutton Opens ESS Season with First Ever Win at Outlaw Speedway
By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | The new season for the Empire Super Sprints started out with a new face in victory lane on Friday night at Outlaw Speedway. 305 sprint car standout Jordan Hutton put a 360 into his number 66 and came home victorious. It was his first 360 win, and it was worth $4,220 as part of the Cal Lane Memorial. By virtue of drawing the Pinnacle pole award, Zach Sobotka brought the field to green alongside of Jordan Hutton. Sobotka would jump out to an early lead over Hutton. By the time the field reached the start finish line, however, Jordan Poirier had worked his way to second. A lap later, defending champion Jordan Poirier made his way by Sobotka and took the lead. A caution on lap three for Jason Barney, slowed the field, and when the green came back out Poirier re-took command of the field. As the laps clicked off, Poirier remained in control of the field. By lap 9, however, Hutton had caught Poirier and was able to sneak by him on lap 10 for the lead. After surviving a late-race restart, Hutton would hold on and cross the start/finish line first, claiming his first Empire Super Sprints victory. Behind Hutton, Poirier crossed the line in second and fourth-starting Davie Franek rounded out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third. "On the opening lap there, I got out of two and kinda got a little wheel stand there, I screwed up and let out of it and watched three people go by me," said Hutton in victory lane. "I can't believe how good this car was, I think I was wide open the entire feature. Everywhere I put the car it would go." "This means the world. This is probably one of the hardest things me and my father and everyone involved have had to work for. It took a lot of laps and a lot of racing to get here." With 27 cars in the pits to open the 2026 season, the field was split into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Dylan Swiernik, Jordan Thomas and Matt Farnham. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Jordan Hutton, Davie Franek and Jared Zimbardi, while Trevor Years won the Mechanical Services/Donath Motor Worx dash, and Paulie Colagiovanni picked up the B-Main. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is a new track for the tour, with a stop at the Port Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania on the docket Saturday May 16. - Crystal Clear Night! DeVault Sweeps GLSS Opener at Crystal
Crystal, MI - There are some nights that it seems everyone and everything is working against you. Then, there are nights where it seems nothing can go wrong, and all you have to do is hang on and celebrate. Saturday night with the Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, Plymouth, Indiana's Zane DeVault enjoyed the latter. Drawing a late bid in Ti22 Performance Qualifying, the Randerson Racing No.14 questioned what kind of qualifying attempt they would get when they rolled to the race track. That question was answered quickly when DeVault rocketed to the top of the board. The next lap? A new. Track. Record. 11.930 breaks Ryan Turner's track record from 2025 of 11.948. DeVault had no issues in his heat race either, finding victory lane in the opening heat race of the night. The only thing you could say didn't go perfectly for DeVault on Saturday night was the redraw, where he pulled the three. Clinton Boyles, who made his Great Lakes Super Sprints debut, and Jared Horstman led the field to green for the 25 lap main event. Horstman and Boyles wasted no time battling for the top spot, exchanging slide-jobs in the opening three rotations around the speedway. A pair of quick cautions kept the field close, but Horstman appeared to have the car to beat. On a restart, DeVault began making his charge, getting back to third around Dustin Daggett. In lapped traffic, DeVault and Boyles began closing in on Horstman when suddenly, Boyles' car slowed entering turn three and coasted to a stop, prompting another yellow. During that caution period, suddenly Jared Horstman exited the race track with what would later be explained as an engine failure, handing things over to DeVault. With 11 laps to go, DeVault set sail and opened up a straightaway lead on Daggett in the final laps, going on to collect the third GLSS win of his career, and first since October 6, 2024. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints is Friday, May 1st at Limaland Motorsports Park and Saturday, May 2nd at Montpelier Speedway. Fans who can't make the trip can catch all the action LIVE on GreatLakesSprints.TV. - Chambers wins Modified thriller as Pitts Homes & Realty Challenge Cup debuts at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (April 25, 2025) - Henry Chambers held off Trevor Hughes in a frantic final few laps to earn the Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modified main event on Saturday night as the Pitts Homes and Realty Challenge Cup debuted at Lucas Oil Speedway. Chambers, of Baldwin City, Kansas, earned a $1,000 prize by beating Hughes by a car length. A total of 122 cars checked into the pits in the five divisions on Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr Pepper Night at the races, with JC Morton also picking up a $1,000 feature win, in the Hermitage Lumber Late Models. Feature winners taking home $750 were William Garner (O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars), Jon Sheets (Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods) and Derek Brown (Hickamo Super Stocks). Chambers, 18, took the lead from Hughes on lap 14 just three laps after a caution wiped out Hughes' sizeable lead of nearly three seconds. "The car was working good. I don't know if we would have been able to get by Trevor if we didn't have that caution," Chambers said in victory lane. "Obviously that opened up an opportunity and I didn't let that one go. The race car was really good tonight." Hughes, of Westville, Okla., was the man to beat from the start. He went from third to first on the opening lap and set the pace over Devin Barker as the sixth-starting Chambers moved into third. Chambers and Barker flip-flopped positions on lap four as Hughes opened a 1.5-second lead. Hughes threatened to make it a runaway by lap eight, leading by 2.6 seconds over Chambers as Nic Bidinger took the third spot. Caution on lap 11 wiped out Hughes' 2.4-second lead over Chambers. Chambers jumped to the high side after the restart and it worked, as Chambers took the lead with a first-turn pass on lap 14. One lap later, ninth-starting Wolff sailed around Hughes for second but he jumped the cushion in turn two a lap later to fall back into third. Chambers took advantage of the shuffling behind him and held off Hughes' last-ditch effort to win by a half-second. It was his second USRA Modified win at Lucas Oil Speedway, the other coming in 2024. Bidinger wound up third with Wolff fourth and Cole Campbell fifth. Morton tops Ewing for Late Model win: JC Morton of Springfield held off the defending Hermitage Lumber Late Models track champ Robbe Ewing for his first Challenge Cup feature victory. Tyler Wolff was scheduled to start on the pole but elected to drop to the back for a chance to collect a $500 bonus if he was able to pull off the win. Wolff already had picked up nine positions, moving into fifth by lap four and to fourth by lap six. Morton continued to set a hot pace up front with Ewing second and Tucker Cox third. That's where Wolff's advancement hit a snag with the race remaining under extended green-flag conditions. Morton led Ewing by 1.4 seconds by lap 15 as the top two finishers in the division a year ago picked up where they left off. Two laps later, the race took a turn as the third-running Cox slowed to a stop in turn two, bringing out the caution. That erased Morton's one-second lead over Ewing and put Wolff back into the mix with three laps remaining. But Morton, riding the high groove, held off Ewing by .722 seconds at the checkers with Wolff winding up in third. "They take care of the car each week and have it on spot right now," Morton said of Moon Brothers Racing out of Sedalia, owner of the Late Model. "It's good to start out strong. We struggled in our B-Mod a little bit, but we'll work on that and hopefully we'll keep maintaining this and we'll be here at the end of the year for a championship." Alan Westling finished fourth with Joe Walkenhorst fifth. Garner dominates Stock Cars main event: William Garner of Lebanon led 20 laps to win the O'Reilly Auto Parts USRA Stock Cars feature, beating Jayden Bears by just under one second. Garner opened a 2.7-second lead over fellow front-row starter Christopher Sawyer through eight laps and kept extending the margin as laps ticked away without interruption via a caution. Fourth-starting Jayden Bears went around Sawyer for second on lap 11, but trailed the leader by nearly four seconds. Bears and the rest of the field finally got a new chance to overtake the leader when Dawson Fennewald spun to bring out the race's lone caution on lap 17. Garner had a good restart and went on to prevail by .960 seconds with Grayson McKinney finishing third. "I got a hold of Jason Sivils and we're working on some shocks with him and man, he's got some pretty good stuff," Garner said. "We just need to fine-tune this thing a little bit. I'm not quite where I need to be, but it's pretty good right now." Jeff Tennant was fourth and Butch Bailey finished fifth. USRA B-Mod win goes to Sheets: Nevada's Jon Sheets started up front and led all 20 laps to take the Cleark Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mods feature over Kris Jackson. Sheets, the reigning track champ, had opened a 1.8-second lead over Dimmitt when the first caution appeared, on lap three after a pair of cars spun in turn two. Just two laps after the caution, Kris Jackson moved into second after starting fifth. The lead for Sheets grew to three seconds at the halfway mark on lap 10 with Jackson running in front of Dimmitt and J.T. Carroll. Sheets relentlessly kept pulling away, holding a four-second cushion when caution flew on lap 12 for a spinning car in turn two. Sheets maintained command after the restart, riding around the high side of the track. He went on to beat Jackson by 2.3 seconds at the finish with Carroll third, Dimmitt fourth and Tim Karrick fifth. "It's always a stiff field here, especially to point out Kris," Sheets said. "He's won everything there is to win. What a weekend. We picked up a win (Friday at Electric City Speedway). We've had a tear of bad luck all year. We've had some good runs, but haven't had a real good race car yet. Tonight we had a really good race car." Brown wins Super Stocks thriller: Derek Brown of Stoutland made the winning pass entering the final turn of the final lap and held off Johnny Fennewald and Mike Striegel for the Hickamo Super stocks feature. Striegel, who appeared on his way to a hard-fought win, got caught up in lapped traffic in the final turn and that was all that Brown needed to win a thriller. "I knew whatever I was doing, I was coming off the bottom underneath that lapped car," Brown said in victory lane. "I lost a race here last year by trying to pass one of the top and I wasn't gonna let it happen again." Jacob Rexing out dueled Brown as the green waved at the start and set the early pace. He was nearly one second in front of Brown and Striegel when caution slowed the action on lap six. Striegel was dueling with Rexing for the lead just as a caution flew on lap nine. Just two laps later, Striegel was able to complete the pass for the lead, coming out of turn four. Meanwhile, Johnny Fennewald charged into second from his 17th starting position and was right behind Striegel with six to go. Fennewald slipped too high in turn two on lap 17 and fell back to fourth with Brown and Blaine Ewing trailing Striegel. Brown, taking advantage of lapped traffic that bogged down Striegel, made the winning pass in turn four of the final lap. Fennewald rallied into second with Striegel settling for third. Terry Schultz finished fourth and Ewing fell back to fifth. First of five Challenge Cup rounds: Each class will have 10 points races between April 10th and Aug. 29 with a number of other events to be run as non-points events. All 10 Challenge Cup events for each series will have elevated nightly purses. Round Two is set for June 20th, Round 3 on July 18th and Challenge Cup Championship Weekend Aug. 28-29 will make up rounds four and five.
