- TANNER HOLMES IS THE NARC MAN OF THE HOUR AT TULARE
(10/4/25 - Andrew Kunas) Tulare, CA ... Four months out of someone's car? No problem for Tanner Holmes and the Tarlton Motorsports sprint car team, who found themselves in NARC victory lane together for the second time this season when they took Saturday's Chris & Brian Faria Memorial at Thunderbowl Raceway. The young Oregon driver had not been in the American Rock & Rent-sponsored No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim since June 7th but quickly got comfortable once he was back in the car on Saturday evening. Starting from the pole after a dash win, Holmes took the lead and from there was rarely challenged as he led all 30 laps and earned his third career NARC win. That initial start was called back after another car came to a stop but on the second start Holmes took off on an open track, but did find occasional difficulty in slower traffic. Washington visitor Jesse Schlotfeldt was in position once to take a shot at Holmes in the early laps, but couldn't make a move as he also struggled occasionally. After that, Schlotfeldt couldn't get back up to Holmes, whether in the open or in traffic, and eventually pulled off the track when his car had a driveline problem occur with just a few laps remaining. After struggling with the slower cars in the first half of the race, Holmes admitted he had to get himself straight during a caution with 14 laps completed. He found his groove in the latter half of the race, and with Schlotfeldt pulling off and the race staying green, Holmes cruised in the last few laps to pick up another win at the same track where he won the first of the Twin 20's at the Morrie Williams Memorial in May. For the Tarlton Motorsports team, it was their series leading eighth NARC win on the season, with two coming from Holmes and six from Australian star James McFadden during the summer when Holmes was in his family's car. "I took advantage of that yellow and almost had a chat with myself - and gather myself - and get a little more up on the wheel," Holmes said about the caution flag coming after he managed to stay in the lead despite struggling some. "I felt like I regrouped well and knew exactly what to do. Really cool to win first night back out (in the Tarlton car)." There may have been struggles early in the feature, but the win capped off what was nearly a perfect night for the No. 21. Holmes set fast time in qualifying and won the Beacon Wealth Strategies Dash to earn the pole for the main event. The only blemish was a fourth place finish in his heat race on a freshly reworked race track. Sean Becker, who started outside the front row, fell back to sixth at one point, but after strong restart and finding his groove, Becker drove back up to third place and then inherited second when Schlotfeldt dropped out. Becker had been passed by D.J. Netto, who he was chasing for the points lead, but passed him back and Netto eventually fell back to finish ninth while Becker finished runner-up in the D&J Construction Rental-sponsored Bjork Construction No. 7b Shaver-powered Maxim, and shaved Netto's lead to just seven points unofficially in the process. Justin Sanders ran in and battled for positions in the top five throughout the race and picked up the podium finish aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Construction No. 2x Rider-powered KPC. Shane Golobic earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod, coming from 14th to finish fourth aboard the NOS Energy-sponsored Matt Wood Racing No. 17w Kistler-powered KPC. In addition to the $150 bonus from Williams Roofing, Golobic gained another $150 from the Western Renegades Non-Wing Sprint Car Series. The 12th starting Tim Kaeding moved up to finish fifth in the Emadco Disposal-sponsored Williams Motorsports No. 0 Maxwill-powered Maxim. Cannon McIntosh, Bud Kaeding, Dominic Scelzi, Netto and Dominic Gorden rounded out the Top 10. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Schlotfeldt, Gauge Garcia and Sanders before Holmes won the dash. Holmes paced the 19-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying, touring the 1/3-mile, high-banked clay oval in 13.587 seconds to start the evening off. - Patient Wolff claims Modified finale as USRA Nationals conclude at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Oct. 4, 2025) - Tyler Wolff's patience paid off Saturday night as the veteran driver from Fayetteville, Ark., took over over in the late going to claim the finale of the 12th annual Summit USRA Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway. Wolff earned $5,000 for the USRA Modified 50-lap win as he beat Brandon Davis by a couple of car lengths for the victory in the final race of the marathon week of action. With 314 total entries on the final night, other feature winners were Kris Jackson (B-Mods), Jaylen Wettengel (Stock Cars), Dustin Gulbrandson (Hobby Stocks) and Jason Weber (Tuners). Wolff, winning for the second time in four nights, spent the majority of the race chasing 18-year-old Harley Dais who led the first 39 laps. Dais, of Winona, Minn., started on the pole and needed only five laps to open a nearly two-second lead over Wolff. Dais lost ground in the traffic as Kyle Brown closed within a car length by the mid point on lap 25. Brown slipped up on lap 33, allowing Dais to expand his lead to 1.4 seconds, his biggest advantage of the race. Wolff re-emerged as a contender by lap 39, passing Brown. Then Wolff grabbed the lead away from Dais on lap 40, taking over headed into turn three. Just one lap later, caution slowed the action and set up a nine-lap sprint to the finish as Wolff led Dais and Brown. "I was trying (to be patient) but it sure is hard," Wolff said. "My patience is not very good. Man, that was a test of patience. Seeing him out front, I was wanting to go so bad I couldn't see straight. Finally, Kyle Brown got by me and I was like 'I need to get going a little bit better.' " After leading the first 39 laps, Dais faded to fourth after the restart as Brandon Davis drove to second ahead of Brandon Givens. Davis took the lead on lap 44, but Wolff bounced back to the front the next time around. The entertaining battle was put on hold for caution at that point. Dais, meanwhile, fell out of the race with mechanical issues with five laps remaining and fourth-running Brown also saw his night come to an end when his car slowed on the restart. Wolff held off Davis as action resumed and finished a mere .199 seconds ahead at the checkers. Davis had to settle for second with Givens third, Nic Bidinger fourth and Alex Williamson fifth. "I changed my line up and tried to be a little more aggressive and not wear the tires out. We made it work," Wolff said. Houston Johnson of Kansas City finished eighth as he nailed down his first USRA Modified Championship after 26 overall wins this season. "It's awesome and probably hasn't sank in just yet," Johnson said. "That's the goal I set out for at the beginning of the year. It wasn't easy. A lot of miles and a lot of late nights, but it's worth it." Jackson captures B Mod feature: Kris Jackson led all 40 laps, but it wasn't easy as the Lebanon driver held off a pair of hard-charging challengers over the final laps for the $4,000 USRA B-Mod victory. Jackson started on the outside of the three-deep front row and he took the early lead with Sheets advancing from fourth to second by lap four. Jackson pulled out to a half-second margin over Sheets by lap 10 of the 40-lapper. Sheets began to close in on Jackson as those two broke away from third-place Chad Clancy by 2.5 seconds. Jackson's lead was a slim .237 seconds when action slowed for caution on lap 18. It was more of the same as action resumed, with Jackson and Sheets battling it out for the lead. Jackson had the answer each time Sheets challenged, with periodic cautions occurring as the two were putting on a good show up front. After a lap 29 restart, Clancy was able to slide past Sheets on the outside. Jackson was able to take advantage of Clancy and Sheets fighting for second to built his lead to nearly one second by lap 35. The challengers closed in on Jackson with three to go, the duo three-wide coming to the line to finish lap 38. Jackson rode the high groove and held on to score the win, beating Sheets by .546 seconds with Clancy third. Andy Bryant was fourth, more than four seconds behind the winner and Stephen Clancy rallied for fifth from 26th. "We've got a great group of people in our race cars," Jackson said, noting the top three finishers were in J2 chassis that he and cousin Tony Jackson Jr. designed and Sheets bought the company last year. "I know Jon is going to be there waiting for me to mess up. I'm just glad I didn't hit the wall too many times. I'm not very good at that." Wettengel claims Stock Cars victory: It was all Jaylen Wettengel in the USRA Stock Cars feature, as the Topeka, Kan., driver led 37 of 40 laps for the $4,000 win. Wettengel rolled from the inside of row one to the lead and he opened a lead of nearly one second through eight laps over Myles Michehl. Wettengel hugged the low groove to maintain the top spot even as Michel pulled within a car length after a dozen laps. The first caution flew on lap 14 with Wettengel's lead sitting at .439 seconds over Michehl with Josh Cain in third. Wettengel continued to set the pace after the restart, with a one-second gap over Michehl at the midway point on lap 20. Wettengel's lead was more than one second at the 30-lap mark with no signs of slowing down, even in lapped traffic. But the field got a reprieve with eight to go as a third caution of the race flew. Michehl took advantage of the opportunity and took the lead on lap 35 with an outside pass in turn four. Back came Wettengel, regaining the lead on lap 38 after diving to the bottom in turns one and two to get the advantage. Wettengel held on to claim the win by .672 seconds over Michehl with Josh Cain third, Derek Green going from 26th to fourth and Shayne Bailey fifth. "That whole race I knew there were heavy hitters behind me," Wettengel said. "Michehl was there, Cain was back there, I seen (Justin) Custer coming up through the field. I knew if I just stuck to my guns on the bottom ... there's always grip to this place coming off the bottom. If you just stay committed, it'll work out for you." Gulbrandson caps Hobby Stocks title with feature win: Seventh-starting Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, S.D., wrapped up a USRA National Championship with a victory in the Hobby Stocks, taking over the lead with 10 laps remaining. It was his 20th feature win of the year and was worth $1,500. Parker Anderson led the first 19 laps, but lost it to Gulbrandson on a lap-20 restart. Three laps later, Friday night's Hobby Stocks winner Taylor Donlan brought out a red flag with a spin in turn four that drew contact that left his car on its side. Gulbrandson steadily increased his lead after the restart as the USRA Hobby Stocks points leader picked up the win by 1.29 seconds over Anderson with Scott Dobel third, Nick Brady fourth and Kevin Lacy fifth. "That was definitely the longest race we've had all year," Gulbrandson said in victory lane. "I'm fat and out of shape, so I was happy to see the white flag there. I about gave it away with two to go. Hats off to the track prep crew. I don't think we could have had a better track." USRA Tuners win to Weber: Jason Weber of Enid, Okla., held on to claim a thriller over Steven Bevills in the $1,000-to-win USRA Tuners main event. Bevills set the pace from his front-row starting spot before Weber took over the top position on lap eight. Sean Leasure joined the battle at the front and went into second on lap 13. The top three broke away, staying within a half second of one another as the laps clicked by. As Bevills and Leasure jostled for second, Weber was able to open some breathing room and he went on to take the checkers by a few feet - .041 seconds over Bevills - to be exact as the runner-up made a last-lap charge. "I seen it was Bevills behind me and me and Bevills had been joking all day about it," Weber said. "I knew he wasn't gonna do nothing to screw me up. I just squeezed him down a little bit. Rubbin's racin'." Leasure took third with Dylan Whitley fourth and Kollin Teafatiller fifth. - Haudenschild Holds On For Williams Grove J & S Classics National Open Loot - Bill Balog nearly wins 63rd annual event, Troy Wagaman gets track title
Mechanicsburg - Sheldon Haudenschild out-raced Bill Balog to prove triumphant in Saturday night's 40-lap, 63rd annual J & S Classics National Open for World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Williams Grove Speedway. The prestigious payday was worth $75,000 for the Ohio native in what was his second career win at the historic oval. Throughout the night, polesitter Bill Balog's No. 17 machine proved to be a few tenths of a second faster than all other cars in action each time he hit the track and his speed was evident. Both he and Haudenschild started on the front row of the Open with Haudenschild trailing Balog for the first six laps before fourth starter Buddy Kofoid drove into the second spot. Balog hit traffic with a two second lead on the eighth tour and found his advantage down to just over a second with a quarter of the race completed as heavy traffic was in play. Third starter Danny Dietrich drove low in the third turn to get third away from Haudenschild on the 13th tour just before Haudenschild took the spot back and the caution flag unfurled for a slowing Connor Morrell. That yellow with 14 laps down turned red for refueling and Haudenschild capitalized on the restart to get by Kofoid for second before the final caution of the race appeared for a faltering David Gravel on lap 15. A two-time Open winner, Gravel suddenly slowed in the second turn but then restarted just as suddenly but not before losing several spots. Danny Dietrich blasted to the outside of Haudenschild and Kofoid in the first corner on the restart and motored into second but Haudenschild was far from backing off for the spot as Kofoid faded. He dogged Dietrich for the next 12 circuits before battling back into second on the 29th tour before setting his sights on Balog who had again hit the rear of the field two laps earlier. With 10 laps to go Balog was circling the high cushion with a .694 second lead over the field. Haudenschild took his first swipe at the leader with seven to go by attempting a low side blast in the third turn that failed to deliver but a lap later Balog tripped on the first turn cushion, giving Haudenschild new life. Sheldon used the bobble to nose into the lead around the inside only to see Balog muster all of his speed and blow back around as the pair hit the backstretch. Unbelievably, the next time around Balog did the exact same thing on the cushion as he traversed the first corner and this time when he bobbled up top, Haudenschild got too far around on the inside and Balog wasn't able to repeat his move to again reclaim control. Haudenschild crossed the line with the lead with four laps to go and Balog in hot pursuit to get the lead back. With two to go the pair was nose to tail as they passed the flag stand and just after the white flag Balog went for all the marbles. With every bit of speed he had left in his car Balog thrust his car around the cushion as he blasted through the first and second turns. And he drew alongside Haudenschild for the win as the duo started down the backstretch. But Haudenschild used a bit of squeeze play as the pair headed for the bridge, forcing Balog to back out and surrender the top spot yet again. And then while Haudenschild drove off to the big win Dietrich also got by Balog to finish second. After starting fifth, Daryn Pittman was a high as third with 10 laps to go before settling for fourth aboard the Kreitz No. 69K. Kofoid completed the race in the fifth spot. Sixth through 10th went to Gravel, Logan Schuchart, Chase Dietz, Brent Marks and Ryan Timms. Troy Wagaman Jr. won the 2025 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint car track title by virtue of finishing 20th in the field. Heats went to Gravel, Carson Macedo, Balog and Pittman. Lance Dewease won the B Main and TJ Stutts won the C Main. Balog earned the pole for the National Open by winning the dash. A six-time National Open champion, Donny Schatz won the non-qualifiers race. Gravel set fast time over the 56-car field for the second night in a row, turning in a lap of 16.687 seconds. The National Open was the final event on the 2025 schedule at Williams Grove Speedway. Opening day for the 2026 season is slated for Sunday afternoon, March 22 at 2 pm, featuring the 410 sprint cars. Feature Finish 10/4/25 410 sprint cars, 25 laps: 1. Sheldon Haudenschild, 2. Danny Dietrich, 3. Bill Balog, 4. Daryn Pittman, 5. Buddy Kofoid, 6. David Gravel, 7. Logan Schuchart, 8. Chase Dietz, 9. - Davenport Dominates to Win Second Straight Pittsburgher
IMPERIAL, PA (October 4, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport repeated his performance from a year ago by leading all 70 laps to win the 37th Annual Pittsburgher Saturday night at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, earning $50,000. Davenport started third on the grid, and by the end of the first lap, he was out front. Max Blair earned the Hoker Trucking Hard Charger of the Race after moving from 13th to finish second. Devin Moran completed the Big River Steel Podium in third, taking a 15-point lead in the championship standings into the season finale at Eldora Speedway in two weeks. Ricky Thornton Jr finished fourth, with Brandon Sheppard rounding out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 92nd time in his career, the Blairsville, Georgia driver heads to Eldora in two weeks, third in the championship points, as he looks to try and win his first career Dirt Track World Championship. "It's definitely really hard to lead here; the track is so wide. There are a lot of options and different lanes to choose from. I had to judge off of lapped cars - once I got behind them, I was just trying to maintain my momentum until I reached them. Our car felt pretty good; I was just trying to manage my tires during the first 40 or 50 laps so I'd have something left at the end. We weren't that good yesterday and really couldn't understand why, so we second-guessed ourselves. We put our heads together, talked about it, thought it through, and came up with a game plan for today," said the three-time series champion. "There are always 'what ifs' in the back of your mind, and then you realize the guys lining up behind you, and you don't know if they've been saving their tires or running a different line than you have. It started to clear up just a little bit through one and two around the mid part of the race, and then after we had that long caution, everyone kept rolling through it, I guess, through the mud and everything, which kind of covered it back up. I was searching for a few laps after that caution, but the grip finally came back. You never know what's happening behind you, and it can change in a hurry. We could run over something and get a flat or have a mechanical issue, so luckily none of that happened." Blair, who finished third in the Friday Night program, charged through the field to secure second place on lap 61 and earned $20,000 for his runner-up finish in the Centerline Motorsports entry. "Well, the first thing I thought of was Lernerville. I thought I was going to finish second to him (Davenport), but we ended up finishing third, and there's a really big pay difference between second and third. So, I really didn't want to give away second. I mean, he was better than everybody else. I ran him down in the last couple of laps, but I think that was just more of him not wanting to get into lapped traffic. I'm sure his crew was telling him he was okay. I think he kind of had everybody covered. But to come here and run second against these guys is pretty awesome, for sure." Moran moved past Thornton after a late restart to secure third place as he leaves Pittsburgh 15 points ahead of Thornton. "I really think that when we got to lapped traffic, Brandon Overton showed me the top line, and my car was so bad off the top that I had to commit to it. At the same time, I had to be careful not to get flats like Brandon did tonight or Ricky did last night. It's definitely a fine line between going really hard and causing problems. I'm just glad we salvaged that race; we were struggling badly early on, but we managed to find the high line. Pittsburgh did an awesome job with the track all weekend long." The winner's Double L Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dyna Gro Seed, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas, VP Fuels, and Midwest Sheet Metal. Completing the top ten were Carson Ferguson, Garrett Alberson, Mason Zeigler, Josh Richards, and Brandon Overton. Adding "This place is awesome, especially when things get up on the fence like that. Great night with Don here and all the partners that make this possible, I'm just the lucky one that gets to drive the thing". - Sheets uses late heroics for B-Mod win on Night 3 of USRA Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway
WHEATLAND, MO. (Oct. 3, 2025) - Jon Sheets led only one lap, but it was the most-important one. Sheets capitalized on a late-race restart to capture the USRA B-Mod feature win on Night Three of the 12th annual Summit USRA Nationals on Friday night at Lucas Oil Speedway. The reigning USRA national champion out of Nevada, Mo., rallied to score his 16th win of the season. Other feature winners as a total of 298 cars entered in the five competing divisions were Nic Bidinger (Modifieds), Boone Evans (Stock Cars), Taylor Donlan (Hobby Stocks) and Cale Hancock (Tuners). From outside of row one, Mitchell Franklin roared to the lead in the B-Nod feature and set the pace and was in front by 1.1 seconds when caution waved on lap three. Franklin got rolling after the restart as Andy Bryant advanced to second with Sheets third. Bryant caught and passed Franklin headed into turn three as the race hit the halfway mark on lap 10. Two laps later, Sheets supplanted Franklin for second and pulled within a car length of Bryant. Sheets stalked the leader over the next several laps before pulling alongside on lap 15, but Sheets hit a bump in turn two that cost him nearly a second to the leader. That was all Bryant needed as he opened a 1.7-second lead when caution flew on the white-flag lap as Franklin spun in turn four while running in fourth. That made for a green-white-checkered shootout and Sheets made the most of it. Sheets - the Clear Creek Golf Cars USRA B-Mod track champion this season at Lucas Oil Speedway - sailed around the high side out of turn four to prevail over Shadren Turner by .420 seconds with Bryant slipping to third. "I knew Andy's not gonna bobble on top," Sheets said of the final restart. "What a race car we had. We went to work today. I had a lot of people ask 'are you even gonna race because we're top three in the points.' But I've sucked the last two nights and we needed to get a little bit better and we might have hit on something. We were pretty good all over the race track." Taylor Skauge was fourth and Boone Evans came home in fifth. Bidinger rolls to Modifieds triumph: Another driving using home-track advantage, Nick Bidinger of Perry, Kan., was a wire-to-wire winner in the 25-lap USRA Modified feature as he beat Keith Foss. The 2025 Lucas Oil Speedway Arctic Food Equipment USRA Modified track champion, set the early pace from his front-row starting spot with Foss advancing from sixth to second by lap four. Foss, of Winona, Minn., pressured Bidinger over several laps but Bidinger was able to maintain the lead and stretch it out to just under one second by lap 12. Bidinger was in front of Foss by 1.2 seconds with Kyle Brown third when caution flew on lap 15. Bidinger had a clean restart and quickly regained a one-second command by the 20-lap mark. He was able to bring it home from there, prevailing over Foss by 1.14 seconds. "It helps us a lot and we came out with a really good base set-up," Bidinger said of what his regular-season success means at Wheatland this week. Brown was third, Brandon Givens fourth and Tyler Wolff fifth. Evans goes wire to wire for Stock Cars win: Boone Evans of Bullard, Texas, led all 20 laps and held off Chance Larson by a razor-thin margin at the checkers to take the USRA Stock Cars main event. "Winning at Lucas Oil Speedway is a dream, for any kid," Evans said. "I grew up watching Late Models on Sundays on MAV-TV from this place. I'd have never thought this would happen." Evans took the lead at the start and had a 1.5-second command over Chris Dishing four laps in when the first caution waved. Evans had a clean restart while Dishong slipped two positions as Larson advanced into second. Larson cut into the lead and trailed Evans by just one car length by lap eight. One lap later, another caution slowed the action. The top two resumed the battle after the restart with Evans able to stretch his lead to a half-second with five to go. Evans' lead was down to a car length coming to the white flag as Larson applied the pressure. Evans was able to hang on and take the win by .136 seconds over Larson with Rodney Schweizer third, Josh Roney fourth and Mitch Hovden in fifth. Hobby Stocks win goes to Donlan: Taylor Donlan of Decorah, Iowa, took command on lap 12 and held off Dustin Gulbrandson in a thrilling finish of the 18-lap USRA Hobby Stocks feature. In a battle of front-row starters, Carter Koop led the first lap before Kevin Lacy swapped positions on lap two. By lap five, sixth-starting Gulbrandson began to close in as he moved to second and one lap later, the USRA Hobby Stocks points leader had the lead. Gulbrandson led until lap 12, when Donlan found speed on the high side to drive around him in turn three to become the race's fourth leader. Gulbrandson was poised to take the lead in the final turns when a spinning car brought out the caution, setting up a green-white-checkers shootout after a restart. The 18-year-old Donlan was able to hang on to win by .013 seconds as the two nudged each other coming to the finish line. "I was not happy when I seen that yellow flag," Donlan said. "I just told myself don't mess up and hold on. I knew (Gulbrandson) was gong to be there and I knew I had to get through (turns) one and two before I could get through three and four. "I kind of lost the right rear and slid up and that's why we made contact. I wish it didn't happen, but I'm also glad it did so I could get the win." Parker Anderson finished third with Koop fourth and Zac Smith fifth. Hancock picks up USRA Tuners win: Cale Hancock of Collinsville, Okla., crossed the line second but was elevated to the USRA Tuners victory when apaprent winner Sean Leasure was disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Leasure, from Mansfield, Texas, came from deep in the pack to cross the finish line first. The 14th-starting Leasure took second away from Hancock on lap seven and then made his way into the lead on lap 11 after Dylan Whitley had led all the way to that point. Leasure had a .870-second lead when caution came out with three laps left. Leasure had a good restart and held on, finishing 1.3 seconds clear of Hancock. Jason Weber was elevated to second with Whitley third and Steven Bevills fourth. "We've come in second so many times here over the years," Leasure said after winning for the 13th time in 22 starts this season. "This track's incredible. I love racing here. It's the Diamond of Dirt Tracks and this track is the best of the best in the nation." - Devin Moran Wins Pittsburgher Opener
IMPERIAL, PA (October 3, 2025) - For the second year in a row, Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, won the Friday night portion of the Pittsburgher as he led the final 16 laps in scoring the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing main event at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. With the win, Moran now trails points leader Ricky Thornton Jr. by five points heading into the $50,000-to-win 37th Annual Pittsburgher on Saturday night. Thornton was leading when he suffered a right rear flat tire with 14 laps remaining. Thornton pitted, returned to the race, and finished ninth. Brandon Sheppard passed Garrett Alberson with two laps to go to finish second, while Max Blair also overtook Alberson on the final lap to complete the Big River Steel podium in third. Alberson and Jonathan Davenport finished in the top five. Moran took the lead from the Victory Fuel pole and led the field for the first five laps until Thornton surged to the front on lap six. Thornton had started fourth and fell back to fifth early in the race, but he gained momentum by using the outside groove of the half-mile track to overtake Moran. However, Thornton then slowed exiting turn two with 14 laps to go as his right rear tire blew out, allowing Moran to regain the lead. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 24th time in his career, Moran will try to join his Hall-of-Fame father, Donnie, as the second father-son combo to win the Pittsburgher, joining Hudson and Don O'Neal. "We started off really strong at the beginning of the year but then struggled a bit through the middle as we tried different things and figured out what to do at this point. I honestly didn't expect the top to be that good, because it looked like there was just dust up there, but Ricky Thornton is Ricky Thornton for a reason. It was a bummer he got a flat, but we were lucky enough to take advantage of his misfortune. Once he got up there and burned that top in, and after he took the lead, I knew where to go. I felt like I was pretty good up there behind him." Sheppard finished 1.844 seconds behind Moran at the end, and like Moran, he will be looking for his first career Pittsburgher victory on Saturday night. "We were definitely trying some things for the long-run race tomorrow night. I felt like I was getting better in the longer runs we had, but we didn't get many long runs in, so we'll be ready tomorrow. We definitely need to fine-tune this a little bit, but all in all, the longer we went, the better we did. So with a longer race, we will be really good," said the New Berlin, Illinois, racer who sits fifth in the points. Blair got by Alberson on the final circuit to finish third after starting in seventh. "The race track was real fast at the start and that's just not me, so I just bided my time hoping it would slow down, and it did I wish tonight was 50 laps because I think we're getting better and better there, but hopefully we've got something to work with for tomorrow and maybe we can be back here on the podium." The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Hazen Services, BOMAG, Anthony's Pizza, Red Oak Pub, Refuel Wellness, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, Car Source Auto, McHugh Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Eibach Springs, VP Fuels, Smoky Mountain Speedway, and Haulin' Haskell's. Completing the top ten were Carson Ferguson, Donald McIntosh, Hudson O'Neal, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Gregg Satterlee. - Dietz Leads Posse Podium Sweep Of Outlaws In Williams Grove Open Prelim - Locals take four of top five spots with Saturday 75K National Open looming
Mechanicsburg - Chase Dietz of York led a Pennsylvania Posse sweep of the World of Outlaws sprint cars in the J & S Classics National Open Preliminary at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, taking $12,000 for the exciting victory. And not only did the Posse sweep the podium but it also took four of the top five spots in the 25-lap main that was the 39th running of the prestigious event. Defending National Open champion Carson Macedo jetted into control from the pole when action began in the preliminary feature chased by Danny Dietrich but fourth starter Dietz served notice early that he was to be in the hunt. He swept to Dietrich's outside on the second lap to take the spot away but by that time leader Macedo had already built up a near two-second advantage over the field. Dietz was noticeably faster than his leading outlaws nemesis however and he consistently chopped between three and five tenths of a second per lap off of Macedo's lead. Dietz had narrowed the gap to eight-tenths of a second by lap seven when the only caution flag of the race unfurled for a four-car tangle in the third turn that was started by Daryn Pittman when his car backed up across the track while running in the eighth spot. Collected in the accident was Daison Pursley, Kody Hartlaub and Bill Balog. Dietz stuck with Macedo when action resumed but he also had to contend with challenger Lance Dewease for the second spot by lap 10. Going for a tie breaking fourth win in the event, Dewease briefly took the position but couldn't hold it as Dietz had his sights set on the leader. As the leaders worked through traffic Dietz first drew to Macedo's inside on the 20th tour as the pair worked through the first and second turns before drag racing down the backstretch. Dietz then pushed his No. 23 deep into the third turn to slide up in front of Macedo as the pair headed for the flag stand only to see Macedo turn his car off of the cushion and back into control by a scant .010 seconds at the line. After two laps to regroup Dietz then blasted under Macedo for control with three laps to go as the pair danced through the third and fourth turns. And along for the ride came Dewease as the pair soared into the top two spots with Dewease briefly threatening to take the lead away from Dietz as well. However once out front in clean air Dietz was able to sneak away to a .798 second margin by the finish. It was Dietz's fifth career win at the oval but his first for car owners John and Kelly Stehman. The checkered flag was also a first for the pilot over the traveling outlaws band. Dietrich got by Macedo late to snare third with Macedo riding home fourth followed by eighth starter Justin Whittall. Sixth through 10th went to Buddy Kofoid, David Gravel, Gio Scelzi, Justin Peck and Brent Marks. In the chase for the 2025 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint track title, Troy Wagaman Jr. ended the race still in the point lead by 125 markers over Freddie Rahmer who finished 11th in the event while Wagaman rode home 16th after taking a provisional to make the field. Heats for the 56-car field went to Gravel, Kofoid, Dewease and Pursley. Sheldon Haudenschild won the B Main and Kyle Spence won the C Main. Ryan Newton claimed the non-qualifiers race. Macedo earned the pole for the feature by winning the dash. Gravel seat overall fast time with a lap of 16.409 seconds. - Brady Bacon in Thrilling Win with POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprints at Lee County Speedway's Hawkeye Nationals
Donnellson, IA. (10/3/25) Brady Bacon would flex his racing muscles with the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprint League in Night One of the Hawkeye Nationals presented by Start2Finish TV to notch his first league victory and earn the hard-fought feature victory at Lee County Speedway. Flying in excitement on the smooth surfaces of Lee County Speedway with thirty-three talented entrants of the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprints would see Sean Rayhall set a quick qualifying time of 13.105-second lap with Hank Davis, Riley Goodno, Joe B Miller, and Brady Bacon each earning heat racing victories as Xavier Doney would take the semi-feature checkers. Thrilling the audience members in Southeast Iowa, the initial green flag start would find high-point qualifier Roger Crockett and Sean Rayhall lined up in the front row as Crockett would gain the lead on the first pair of laps with Rayhall taking the lead for the next seven revolutions. Setting the pace out front, Sean Rayhall would battle Brady Bacon on lap ten with Bacon taking the preferred position as Aaron Reutzel followed into the runner-up spot with Emerson Axsom and Clinton Boyles within the mid-point top-five. Flying out front, Brady Bacon would lead the way as a late-race caution bunched the field back together, setting the stage for late-race dramatics over the single-file restart with less than four laps remaining. Holding steady out front over an action-packed final four laps, Brady Bacon would not be denied in earning his first career POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint victory, with Aaron Reutzel hustling into the runner-up position by only one-tenth of a second. "I did not want to see that late race caution, I didn't know how fast the top was going to be on the restart as I thought we had a better car in lap traffic through the middle," said Brady Bacon in victory lane ceremony celebrations. Adding "It was all the guest crew-chief tonight, we've been up and down all year, so it feels great to get this win, and we get to try to do it again tomorrow night". Contesting closely by using a late-race restart to perfection would find Austin McCarl placing on the final podium placement from the starting twelfth on the initial green flag. Emerson Axsom would be among the frontrunners, all feature to finish fourth as Hank Davis would round out the top-five finishers for the POWRi Honest Abe Roofing 410 Outlaw Sprint League in Night One of the Hawkeye Nationals presented by Start2Finish TV at Lee County Speedway. - Last-Bend Heroics Net Brody Roa His Best Finish of 2025
Cypress, CA - October 2, 2025 — Brody Roa's strong season hit a new high last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway, where a dramatic last-lap pass in turn three secured him a season-best third-place finish in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. Now, the "Pride of Garden Grove" is aiming two spots higher when USAC/CRA rolls into Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway this Saturday, October 4th. At Perris — the long-standing home of USAC/CRA since its debut in 2004 — Roa qualified ninth quick in the 16-car field. Lining up outside the front row in his heat, he left no doubt, charging to a dominant win. The 10-lap triumph was his fourth heat race victory of 2025, tying him for second-most on the season despite running a part-time schedule. In the 30-lap feature on the famous Riverside County half-mile, Roa lined up ninth and immediately began his march forward. Tom Malcolm was making similar progress, and the two wound up in a thrilling nose-to-tail battle inside the top five. With Malcolm holding third and Roa glued to his tail tank, the laps ticked away in a tense duel for the podium. Time was running out until Roa seized his chance — diving low into turn three on the final lap, sliding past Malcolm, and beating him back to the stripe for third. It was a fitting exclamation point on one of the most exciting drives of his 2025 campaign. "I am really confident racing with Tommy," Roa said of the battle for third. "We duked it out all year in 2023. It was mainly him and I racing for wins that year. I had a lot of fun racing with him on Saturday. It took me back to that year a bit. I don't think, even back in 2023, that we even touched a wheel. I know he is going to race me clean. So, I am going to race him clean and we race each other hard." The 34-year-old was very pleased with the result and with the performance of his Dash 12 engine. "I think we are getting closer," Roa responded about getting the Dash 12 all figured out. "Honestly, the hardest thing I have come to learn is the horsepower we have. I have had to race harder (this year) to try and win races than I had to over the past 10 years. That is fun for me. It is challenging. I have to really hustle this race car to have a good night. I look forward to showing up with it." Roa has raced 10 times in 2025. Seven of the 10 have been at Perris. He is looking forward to racing at Mohave this week. "Honestly, it is probably one of my favorite race tracks out here in the west," the Garden Grove, California driver enthused. "Of all the places we race with CRA, it is probably my favorite race track on the schedule. It suits my style a bit. It is slick, it doesn't have grip, it is dusty. If there is moisture on the racetrack, it is not gooey, sticky. A race track that gets really sticky when it has moisture in it is not my style. I like stuff that is more sandy, and you can slide around on it, and you have to be more precise with your lines. I have really liked Mohave Valley Raceway since the first time we showed up. It is fun to race on, and for the size and layout, it is pretty racy, too." "I think we will have a little bit more of an even playing field with this engine at Mohave," Roa continued. "The last time I was there, Jake Helsel, in Bobby Ream's car, led most of the race with a 360. I think that is what is the most exciting part of what we have now (The Dash 360). Mohave is a track where it does not take a thousand horsepower to win." To see Roa live at Mohave Valley Raceway, gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult admission is $25.00, kids 6-12 are $15.00, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets are cash only at the gate (no ATMs onsite). Concessions, souvenirs, and the beer garden accept cash and cards. For more details, visit mohavevalleyraceway.com or call (928) 346-6000. Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in the city of Perris. For more information, please visit perrisautospeedway.com or call (951) 940-0134.
