The original MARA series, known as the Midwest Auto Racing Association, was conceived in the summer of 1977 in Springfield, IL. Under the direction of its first President, Dean Helmick, and a six member Board of Directors, MARA sanctioned its first auto race that summer at the Champaign County Fair, Champaign, IL. At that event, which featured 27 competing drivers, the thrust of MARA originated. Only one more race would be held that first year, but from that basic beginning, MARA rose to the one of the top midget organizations in the United States.

  Waelti Finds Cushion Comfortable In AFS Badger Midget Opener At Davenport

  For about a season and a half Victory Lane eluded former Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Series Champion Brandon Waelti. Not since June of 2024 had he collected a Lyco Manufacturing A-Main trophy from the venerable club. That all changed on Friday night when the veteran beat a field of 24 Badger and Midget Auto Racing Association (MARA) cars at Davenport Speedway.

  Boden Takes MARA Opener At Lincoln Speedway

  Wisconsin's Zach Boden opened the Midget Auto Racing Association (MARA) season on Friday, April 24, at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, IL) with a convincing win. 2025 MARA champion Jace Sparks appeared to pick up where he left off rounding the quarter mile dirt track in 14.002 seconds in Rod End Supply qualifying. He was .3 ticks faster than Boden, the next fastest. Unfortunately, the #40 of Sparks went up in smoke shortly after crossing the finish line. Sparks later indicated his engine was indeed injured and he was done for the night.
