- BRADEN CHIARAMONTE CLOSES 2023 OUTDOOR SEASON THIS WEEK AT MERCED AND THE TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX
(El Cajon, CA, November 20, 2023) Rising open-wheel star Brayden Chiaramonte will close the outdoor portion of his 2023 racing schedule this week with races at the Merced Speedway Tuesday and Wednesday, November 21st and 22nd, and Saturday at the Ventura Raceway in the 82nd running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix. All three shows will see the talented driver competing in Matt Streeter's fast #14 USAC Midget. The teenage driver enters the final week of USAC competition after competing in the USAC National Midget Series races last Tuesday at the Bakersfield Speedway and Friday in the Hangtown 100 at the Placerville Speedway. Bakersfield Speedway, November 14th Thirty-six UASC National Midgets showed up at the Bakersfield for the first of six races in California. Making his first appearance in a midget in 10 months dating back to the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Oklahoma, Chiaramonte came out flying in qualifying. The 16-year-old from El Cajon, California turned in a lap of 12.900. That was good for the 11th fastest time in the 36-car star-laden field. Chiaramonte found himself outside row two in the third heat race. Running in the top four most of the way, he was clearly one of the fastest cars in the group. However, a late-race stop sent him to the back of the pack for a restart. He fought his way past one car when the race went back to green but time ran out and he finished eighth. That meant he had to contest the 12-lap B main. In a hard-fought, 16-car, star-filled B, Chiaramonte ended up seventh, missing a transfer to the A main by one position. PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY, NOVEMBER 17th Chiaramonte and his team journeyed 300 miles north from Bakersfield to Placerville for Friday's opening night of the Hangtown 100. Before they got there, the track had been pounded by rain. The track staff did a stellar job getting the track good enough to race on. Qualifying was split up by heat race groups and Chiaramonte was third fastest in his group of nine cars with a lap of 12.407. That was good for the 17th-best time of the 36 cars on hand. While the track crew got the clay surface raceable, the rain made for technical, "cowboy up" conditions. With drizzle hitting the track for his heat, Chiaramonte started sixth. Unfortunately, a car spun to a stop in turn four in front of him on lap one. With nowhere to go, he nearly got past the stopped car, but nicked it with his right rear. The yellow for the spinner necessitated a complete restart. Battling for the fourth and final transfer spot, track conditions saw him bicycle in turn three with two laps to go. He quickly recovered but slipped back to sixth. That is where he finished and it forced him to contest the B main. Starting on the pole in the B, Chiaramonte tamed the track and led the first two circuits before slipping back to second on lap three. Going into turn one on the fourth go around, the new leader got upside down bringing out a red flag. Simultaneously, the heavens opened up again and saturated the track. By the time the rain stopped and the track crew had worked the surface back in, the action had been delayed for 45 minutes. When racing resumed, Chiaramonte started first and kept the black #14 in front over the final nine laps for the victory and his ticket into the main event. He started 20th in the 30-lap main event that went green to checkers without a caution or a red flag. The final rain made the track hard to pass on and the young driver ended up 22nd in the main event. Chiaramonte will conclude the outdoor portion of his season this Friday and Saturday in the 82nd Running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Jim Naylor's Ventura Raceway. Friday will be practice for the USAC National Midgets with their racing on Saturday. Advance tickets are available and advised at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/82nd-annual-turkey-night-grand-prix-tickets-629591554287?aff=oddtdtcreator. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. each day. The track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard (93001). The website is http://venturaraceway.com/ and the office phone number is (805) 648-RACE. For fans who cannot make it, both nights will be streamed live on Flo Racing. For more information or to order please visit https://www.floracing.com/. - AFTER ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE RUN IN A 410 SPRINT CAR, BRADEN CHIARAMONTE TAKES ON USAC MIDGET WESTERN SWING
(El Cajon, CA, November 13, 2023) After another stunning performance where he finished fifth in his second 410 sprint car start, teenage sensation Braden Chiaramonte is teaming up with noted West Coast car owner Matt Streeter for the USAC National Midgets Western Swing beginning Tuesday at the famous Bakersfield Speedway. The duo will follow Tuesday's event with races Thursday and Friday at the Placerville Speedway, next Tuesday and Wednesday, November 21st and 22nd, at the Merced Speedway and Saturday, November 25th at the 82nd running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway. Chiaramonte, who lives in El Cajon, California, first teamed up with Streeter at the Bakersfield Speedway on April 16th, 2022. To the fans in the stands at the start of that night, the teen was just another name on the roster. That all changed in his first-ever USAC Midget heat race. After qualifying ninth, he started fourth in the hotly contested prelim. Using the outside line like a seasoned pro, he passed two cars in turn two on the first lap to move up to second. By the end of the first circuit, he had procured the lead and proceeded to move away from the pack. He led the race until lap seven when the defending series champion chased him down and got by. Chiaramonte finished second in that heat. By the time the main came around that night, the track was shot after being pounded by five other divisions. Chiaramonte, who was 15 at the time, started the main in ninth. By lap eight, he steered Streeter's #14 car up to fourth. A trip up to the wide line a few laps later saw him slip back and he ran from sixth to 10th the remainder of the way before crossing under the checkers 10th. Chiaramonte made two more appearances in Streeter cars last year placing seventh at Ventura on May 21st and 10th at Merced on June 18th. After the show at Bakersfield, Chiaramonte and Streeter will head north for two nights of racing this Friday and Saturday in the Hangtown 100 at the Placerville Speedway. After that, the team will be back in action next Tuesday and Wednesday, November 21st and 22nd, at the Merced Speedway. The season will wrap up with the 82nd running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Jim Naylor's Ventura Raceway on November 25th. Young Chiaramonte comes into the California swing after another impressive showing in a 410 sprint car at the Western World Championships at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway. It was not only Chiaramonte's second and third appearances in a 410 but it was the first time he had ever raced at Cocopah. Three weeks earlier he shocked the 410 world by qualifying third fastest and finishing fourth at Mohave. The trip to Cocopah proved to be even more impressive as it was against a larger and tougher field that included several National drivers. Opening night of the Western World Championships saw Chiaramonte qualify 16th of the 33 cars on hand with a lap of 17.151. By the time he came onto the track for his 10-lap heat, the track was pretty much gone and had turned into a tire-eating monster. The teen initially steered the immaculate #73B into second and ended up placing fourth. That earned him a direct ticket into the A main event. When Chiaramonte returned to the pits after the heat, there was oil everywhere on the car. As the crew poured over the engine to find out where the oil was coming from, they found that a bolt for the valve cover had stripped out. Unfortunately, the team did not have a helicoil to make the repairs and they were done for the night. Saturday, with repairs made and with vastly improved track conditions, Chiaramonte cut .407 off of his qualifying time and ended up seventh fastest of the 28 sprint cars on hand. He again earned a direct ticket to the main event by placing fourth in his heat. For the main, Chiaramonte started seventh. Early on, the youthful driver slipped back a few spots before he began steering his white and bright orange sprint car forward. Around the halfway point he was seventh. Soon thereafter he moved up to fifth and stayed there for the duration giving him two top five finishes in the first two 410 sprint car starts in his career. Spectator gates at Bakersfield will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors 65 and over and military with proper ID get in for $18.00. Kids 6-12 are $10.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. The track is located at 5001 North Chester Ext. Ave., Bakersfield (93308). The track website is http://www.bakersfieldspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (661) 393-3373. Gates will open each day at 3:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00 at Placerville. As well as tickets being available at the track before the races, they are also available in advance at the following link online https://www.placervillespeedway.com/. The track is located at 100 Placerville Drive, Placerville, California. The office phone number is (530) 344-7592. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE IS HEADED TO COCOPAH FOR THE WESTERN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
(El Cajon, CA, November 1, 2023) Arizona sprint car fans are in for a treat this Friday and Saturday with the announcement that talented teenager Braden Chiaramonte is headed to the USAC/CRA Western World Championships at the Cocopah Speedway. The two-night affair will be the 16-year-old's first appearance at the track that is located about 12 miles north of the USA/Mexico border and only his second time driving a 410 sprint car. Three weeks ago, Chiaramonte shocked racing fans with a dazzling performance at the USAC/CRA race at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway. It was his first night competing in a 410 sprint car. 410 sprint cars are considered to be the toughest cars to drive in all of sprint car racing. Taking to them like a duck takes to water, Chiaramonte was the fastest car in hot laps at Mohave. He really made the fans sit up and take notice when he posted the third-fastest qualifying time of the 26 cars on hand at the 1/3 mile banked clay oval. When it was time for the heat races, Chiaramonte battled hard but ended up finishing sixth. That meant he had to contest the B main. Without a provisional at his disposal, he had to finish in the top 12 to get into the A main event or he was done for the night. He easily did that when he placed fourth. In what turned out to be a great gift for the fans, the youngster had to start ninth in the 30-lapper. From there he thrilled the big crowd with an impressive run towards the front. Running on the edge at the top, he passed some of the West Coast's top stars and the roar from the crowd when he momentarily went by the leader drowned out the noise of the engines. Unfortunately, seconds after he took the lead, a yellow flag came out and the field reverted back to the last completed lap and Chiaramonte had to go back to second. A slip-up on the last lap saw him finish fourth but his charge to the front is what will be remembered by the appreciative crowd. This weekend's races will be Chiaramonte's fifth and sixth in Arizona in 2023. He made three visits to the Adobe Mountain Speedway in his 600cc outlaw micro in April. He won two of the three and finished sixth in the other. In July, he visited the Deuce of Clubs Thunder Raceway for the first time to contest a 360 wingless sprint car race. The high altitude track proved to be a challenge for the crew getting the engine tuned correctly. Starting fifth in the main, the talented driver set his sights on the front of the pack. He drove by the fourth-place car and was in the process of moving up to third when he slapped the wall with his right rear. The slam bent the Jacob's ladder and flattened the right rear tire. Despite those handicaps, he stayed on the track and was fifth when the damage finally forced him out six laps later. In addition to his sojourns to Arizona this year, he performed at a pair of races at Adobe Mountain in 2022. Included was a second-place finish at the Billy Shuman Tribute on November 11th. Chiaramonte, who lives in El Cajon, California, will be making his 34th and 35th starts of the season at this weekend's races in the "Grand Canyon State." His prior 33 appearances this year have come on 17 different tracks in six different states and in seven different types of race cars. The personable young driver's latest showing came two weeks ago at the prestigious 5th Annual Keith Kunz Giveback Classic at Oklahoma's Port City Raceway. 105 cars jammed the pit area of the popular track for the influential race. On his qualifying night, Chiaramonte finished sixth in the A main. At the finale 48 hours later, he was challenging for second in the B main when he was pinched into an infield tire and had to restart at the back. With limited laps remaining, he dazzled the fans by charging all the way back to ninth and only missing the final transfer to the A main by a half car length at the checkered flag. After this week's races at Cocopah, Chiaramonte is expected to be at Perris Auto Speedway for the USAC/CRA season finale on November 11th. Beginning on November 14th, he will race the final seven USAC National Midget races of the year in one of Matt Streeter's powerful cars. He will conclude his 2023 campaign in the 38th Annual Tulsa Shootout at the famous SageNet Center from December 26th through the 31st. For fans who want to see this Friday and Saturday's Western World Championships in person, gates at the Cocopah Speedway will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00. Reserved seats are $35.00 and general admission is $25.00. Students 13-17 are $15.00. Kids 12 and under get in for free. The track is located at 3450 W County 15th Streets in Somerton, Arizona (85360). The track website is racecocopahspeedway.com and the office phone number is (602) 292-7607. For those who cannot make it to the Arizona speed plant, the race will be shown live on Speed Sport TV. Ordering or more information is available at https://speedsport.tv/videos/30446. - TANGLE WITH INFIELD TIRE KNOCKS BRADEN CHIARAMONTE OUT OF KEITH KUNZ GIVEBACK CLASSIC IN OKLAHOMA
(El Cajon, CA, October 26, 2023) An unfortunate tangle with an infield tire at Oklahoma's Port City Raceway kept Braden Chiaramonte out of the 5th Annual Keith Kunz Giveback Classic finale. The 16-year-old driver came from the back of the pack to finish ninth in one of the Saturday night B mains. That was one spot shy of qualifying for the 67-lap final. Coming off a very impressive fourth-place finish the first time piloting a 410 sprint car at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway the week before, Chiaramonte was one of 105 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprints at the annual race in the "Sooner State." The personable driver competed against 49 other cars in the Thursday, October 19th preliminary. Coming out very late in the qualifying order, Chiaramonte stopped the clocks in 9.981. That was sixth fastest on the night and it was only a blink of an eye slower than the fast time of 9.825. After qualifying, Chiaramonte, who lives in El Cajon, California, finished fourth in his eight-lap heat race. That put him on the inside of the second row in his 10-lap qualifier. Battling on both the high and low sides of the racy track in the qualifier, he finished in fourth and earned a ticket into the night's 30-lap A Main event. Chiaramonte lined up in the 12th starting spot in the first-night main. The top three finishers would be guaranteed a spot in Saturday's finale. Through the first 20 laps of the main, the handsome driver and his #73B car were amidst a hornet's nest of cars fighting for position in the middle of the pack. When the race was two-thirds over, Chiaramonte had only advanced forward two positions to 10th. However, late in the race he began to move forward in a hurry. He quickly raced into the sixth-place spot. The determined teen was working on the fifth-place driver when the checkered flag ended the race with him three spots shy of the transfer. However, the finish guaranteed him a good starting spot in one of Saturday's B mains. The Saturday B main was 15 laps. Sixteen cars started the race and the top eight finishers went into the main event. Chiaramonte started on the inside of the third row in fifth. So, his chances of qualifying looked good. Before the end of the first lap in the B, Chiaramonte was up to third. He had been running the high line but when the second-place car drifted wide in turn four on lap two and pushed the third-place car wide as well, Chiaramonte wisely dove to the bottom coming off turn four and headed towards second-place. However, when the same car dove from the top to the bottom in turn one, it pinched Chiaramonte down and into an infield tire. Chiaramonte slid to a stop necessitating a yellow flag. Deemed the cause of the yellow he had to restart at the back. A red flag with nine laps to go still saw Chiaramonte in 16th but the show was about to begin. After racing resumed, he began to charge forward. A red flag with six laps remaining saw him up to 13th. He was 10th with three to go. Fearlessly pounding the cushion, Chiaramonte was clearly one of - if not the - fastest drivers on the track at that time. He attempted to pass the eighth-place car at the finish line but ended up a half car length short. In all probability, without the tangle with the infield tire and the restart at the back due to it, Chiaramonte would have easily qualified for the main event. "Not the weekend we wanted," Chiaramonte told his fans on Facebook. "Started out qualifying sixth after going out third from last. Finished fourth in the heat race and finished third in the qualifier. Started 12th in the main and finished sixth. Then started fourth in the B main on Saturday. Was running third and got chopped down, had no room, and hit the infield tire. Went back to last and came back up to 10th and had a big run on the guy in ninth. Thought he was going to go to the top but he went to the bottom which caused me to hit him and take him out. Overall it was a tough weekend but ready for the next one." Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. RTL Traffic Control, AM Ortega, Hyper Racing, Chop Design, Adams Motors, Hacienda Casa Blanca Fine Mexican Dining, Evil Plus Injection, King Racing Products, Tiner-Hirst Enterprises, and Keizer Wheels. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE MADE AN INCREDIBLE 410 SPRINT CAR DEBUT LAST WEEK - THIS WEEK IT IS OKLAHOMA FOR KEITH KUNZ GIVEBACK CLASSIC
(El Cajon, CA, October 18, 2023) When it comes to dirt track racing, 410 non-wing sprint cars strike fear into the hearts of many. They are extremely ferocious and very hard to learn how to drive. Apparently, nobody advised 16-year-old rising star Braden Chiaramonte of those facts. Last Saturday night at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway, the young driver made his 410 debut, looked like a veteran, and quickly became the crowd favorite. The trip marked Chiaramonte's third time at the Arizona track. Two and a half years ago, the then 13-year-old placed fourth and fifth in a pair of POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Series races there. Earlier this year, he appeared at the track in a non-wing 360 sprint car for a USAC/CRA 410 race but engine problems knocked him out before the main event. Competing in one of the toughest non-wing series in the nation, USAC/CRA, no one could have predicted what the affable driver achieved on his first night in a 410. Being the fastest of the 27 cars on hand in hot laps drew some attention. Of course, it was not a big deal because it was only hot laps. However, minutes later in qualifying, he hit the attention button of those on hand with a sledgehammer. He turned in a lap of 14.497. That was the third fastest time of the night! Suddenly he had everyone's full attention. Being the third fastest qualifier meant that Chiaramonte would start sixth in his heat race. He had to finish fourth or better to go straight to the main event. He missed that position by two spots, finishing sixth. Without having a provisional at his disposal, the teen had to go to the 15-car B main where he would have to finish 10th or better to get into the A main event. He easily accomplished that by placing fourth and booking his ticket into the A main. Unfortunately, missing the transfer in his heat meant that Chiaramonte would have to start the 30-lap A main in ninth. Of course, that made things much more exciting for the fans as he had some fast, wily veterans starting in front of him. What happened in the main was not only shocking, but it was magical. Starting ninth, he raced his way all the way up to fifth by the end of the second circuit. A yellow about 1/3 of the way through the race, saw him in sixth. At one point, Chiaramonte slipped as far back as ninth. However, in the second half of the race, he went to the outside and put on a show. Running seventh, he rim rode around two cars coming off turn four and was suddenly up to fifth. Two laps later he blew by two more cars and was up to third, but with time running out, he was a long way behind the second-place car. Dramatically, he chopped down the second-place car's advantage and flew past him as well. It was clear to everyone in the crowd that at that point, he was the fastest driver on the track. The question was, could he chase down and pass the leader? The driver of the car in front won a Midwest championship this year and more main events than any other non-wing 410 driver in the nation. By the end of lap 19 with the large crowd cheering him on, Chiaramonte had chopped the leader's advantage down. They were side by side coming off turn four. As they sped by the starters stand, Chiaramonte inched ahead going into the corner. The leader changed lines and slid up to the top where Chiaramonte was running. With a big drive off turn two, Chiaramonte used his patented cut-back move from micros and was pulling alongside the leader. Simultaneously the yellow flag came out relegating the teen back to second. Once again, Chiaramonte was the pursuer. The leader wisely stayed on the top and kept his young foe at bay. Chiaramonte remained second until he got over the cushion coming off turn four with six laps to go. He quickly recovered but was back to third. A slip on the back chute on the last lap momentarily slowed his progress. He got right back on the throttle, but the loss of momentum saw him edged for third place in a photo finish. Less than 48 hours after his thrilling exploits in the "Grand Canyon State," Chiaramonte and his team were on the road to Tulsa, Oklahoma's Port City Raceway and the 5th Annual Keith Kunz Giveback Classic. The race takes place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, October 19th, 20th and 21st. The preliminaries will be on Thursday and Friday. The finale will take place on Saturday. Chiaramonte, who will be driving the family-owned #73B in the Non Wing Outlaw class, will contest his preliminary on Thursday. Last year, 117 cars showed up at Tulsa. Chiaramonte, who was 15 at the time, placed eighth in the Friday A main and 15th in the Saturday final. All three nights of this year's Keith Kunz Giveback Classic will be available on Flo Racing.
