- BRODY ROA GETS HISTORIC WIN IN ULTIMATE SPRINT CAR SERIES INAUGURAL RACE AT BAKERSFIELD
(Cypress, CA, April 24, 2024) Sprint Car racing veteran Brody Roa scored a historic win when he captured the inaugural Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series main event last Saturday night at the Bakersfield Speedway. This Saturday, he will be in action in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway. At Bakersfield, Roa was reunited with car owner Jayson May for only the second time since the 2022 Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura. Their first time back together was at the USAC/CRA race at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on April 6. To say things did not go as planned at that event is an understatement. Going into turn three in qualifying, the steering wheel came off and Roa slammed hard into the tractor tires that protect the pit area. Roa was uninjured in the crash, but the car was heavily damaged and he was done for the night. Last Saturday at Bakersfield, things were 180 degrees opposite of Mohave as before winning the main event, Roa led every inch of the way in a stacked 10-lap heat race. However, the team had an issue early on. "To start the night we had an issue with the right rear shock," Roa said. "It had a leak and leaked the nitrogen out of it. That set us back in hot laps and qualifying. So, we had to do some troubleshooting. We really did not get to work on the car setup-wise until the heat race. Luckily, we were good enough right off the bat so it did not take all that much." For the 30-lap main, the Garden Grove, California resident and his restricted 410 #8M started on the pole. After leading the opening lap on "The West's Fastest 1/3 Mile High Banked Clay Oval," Roa slipped back to second. As the race progressed, he lost a couple more spots. However, by lap nine he was headed back toward the front. With just seven laps remaining in the race, Roa found himself in a familiar place. The lead!!! From that point on he was never headed and he raced under the Randy Schweitzer checkered flag with a 10-car length cushion between himself and the second-place car. "It was really dicey in traffic," Roa stated about the main event. "I did not think we were the best car in the feature and did not have the sheer speed like Brody Fuson had. He was really good on a clean racetrack, but he broke before we got to the lapped traffic. That traffic, they had the track covered. You really had to be smart in what direction you went. You had to watch way ahead because we were coming up on them pretty fast. With the track, how slick it was, if you missed it you lost a lot of miles an hour. That is the fun stuff. That is what I enjoy doing, the race craft part of it." "After all those years being so good at Bakersfield, we actually won there last year for the first time," Roa laughed remembering a victory in his own #91R. "I think before that we went from one of the first two rows, to crash, to the work area and back to second. Probably five or six times. Hopefully the Bakersfield "Monkey" is off our back." "I was really comfortable," Roa responded when asked how it felt to get back in May's car for the first time since 2022. "It is like we did not skip a beat. We worked really well a couple of years ago when I drove for him. We never stopped talking. It was comforting getting back in his car. I know what kind of car it is and what kind of preparation he does on it. I had no hesitation jumping back in that thing." While Roa started driving May's car about four years ago and has been a Perris regular since he started driving in the USAC/CRA Series, it will be his first time driving for May there. It will only be May's second time at the track. The first time was a couple of years ago when Chase Johnson was steering the #8M for him. Thus far in 2024, Roa, the 2023 USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series champion, has only made one start at The PAS. Driving for Arizona car owner Chris Bonneau on March 16th, Roa was on his way to victory late in the race when a flat tire sent him to the work area. He had to restart at the back and with just a few laps to work with, he drove back to fourth. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets for the night of exciting dirt track racing action and clean family fun are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00, and children 5 and under are admitted free. Advance tickets are available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7. They can also be ordered by phone at 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not wish to purchase tickets in advance, we will have plenty available at the ticket window on Saturday. - TOMMY MALCOLM BRINGS USAC/CRA POINT LEAD HOME TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
(Perris, CA, April 23, 2024) While it seems like just yesterday, it was about 15 years ago that a small teen showed up at the sign up booth to race a street stock at Perris Auto Speedway. The young driver became an immediate hit with the fans at the track. He went on to become a successful late model racer winning main events around the West Coast. A few years ago, he dropped the cars that had roofs on them to race 410 sprint cars. This Saturday night, for the first time in his career, Tommy "Thunder" Malcolm will enter the pits at the track where it all began as the points leader in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. The likable driver and his brother Johnny both began their racing careers at Perris. That was natural as their stepfather Dino Napier was one of the top drivers at the track in its early days. Napier captured the championship in the PASSCAR California Champ Truck Series in 2002. The family continued to race at the Riverside County oval until the track dropped the late model class. To continue racing late models, the family team raced up and down the West Coast. After purchasing a sprint car from David Cardey a few years ago, Malcolm paid his dues getting used to the 1200 pound, 900 horsepower open wheel racecar. Never giving up, he came close to victories several times. However, it seems like each time the jaws of defeat would snatch his initial sprint car win away. The most heartbreaking came two years ago at the Bakersfield Speedway. Malcolm was leading the 30-lap main event. During a yellow flag period late in the race, a flat tire sent him to the work area and the back of the pack for the restart. "You would be hard-pressed to find a nicer driver than Tommy," Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said. "He was a nice, respectful teen when he first came to race with us and nothing has changed. He is just as nice today as he was at 15. There is no ego there at all. He lets his driving do the talking and it speaks in volumes." "In the street stocks, he quickly got up to speed and had a big fan following. The same when he jumped up to late models. As soon as he switched to a sprint car, you could tell he was going to be okay. He finally got some wins last season. They were a long time coming and very well deserved. Now he is a contender each time he comes onto the track. He will surely be one of the favorites coming into this Saturday's race." The wait for Malcolm to win his first sprint car race ended at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare on May 20th, 2023. The time gap for his second win was not a long one. In fact, he won the prestigious Salute to Indy seven days later at Perris. Malcolm backed those triumphs up with a victory in the Glen Howard Classic at Perris on September 23rd. A third-place finish at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway three weeks ago propelled the Yucaipa, California driver into the 2024 USAC/CRA point lead. Coming into Saturday's race, he has a one-point lead over Santa Barbara, California's David Gasper. Laveen, Arizona's RJ Johnson, Logan Williams of Yorba Linda, California, and Camarillo's Ricky Lewis round out the top five. Amazingly first to fifth is only separated by 20 points. All but Lewis, who spends the regular season in the Midwest, will be on hand this Saturday night. Besides the third-place finish, thus far in 2024, Malcolm, who was married last year, has two sixth-place results and a seventh. So far this season, he has yet to finish in a position worse than where he started in the four USAC/CRA main events to date. On opening night at Perris, he started 14th and finished sixth. At the second race of the year, which was also at Perris, he began in 11th and placed sixth again. In March at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway in a race that was cut short 10 laps early due to rain, he started and finished seventh. In his third-place finish at Mohave, he started in 10th. That one-point lead in the championship standings could be larger if Malcolm had some better luck in qualifying. With the exception of Cocopah where he was fast qualifier, he has timed in at 15th, 16th, and 12th this season. All of which means he has had to start mid-pack and weave his way through the traffic in three of the four races. In addition to Malcolm and the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, the GAS Chassis Young Gun Sprints, PAS Senior Sprints, and the PASSCAR Super Stocks and American Factory Stocks will also be in action on Saturday. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. - FLOWDYNAMICS DRIVER LOGAN WILLIAMS ENJOYING HIS BEST SEASON START WITH USAC/CRA
(Ontario, CA, April 22, 2024) For fans attending Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car race at Perris Auto Speedway, one of the drivers to keep an eye on is third-generation racer, Logan Williams. The youngest of the three Williams brothers racing in the now 20-year-old series has yet to finish out of the top 10 in the first four races of 2024. Going into Saturday's race, he is fourth in the championship standings and is only 14 points out of the lead. His teammate Matt McCarthy will join the personable driver at the race on the series home track. Williams' last racing adventure on April 6th, saw him competing on the banked 1/3 mile Mohave Valley Raceway in Arizona. The Yorba Linda, California-based driver qualified seventh fastest in the talent-laden 28-car field with a time of 14.667. He started third in his 10-lap heat race and advanced one spot to second. That served him well as one of the top six qualifiers did not finish in the top four in his heat. That gave Williams the pole for the 30-lap main. Williams would have started seventh if the other driver had finished in the top four. Once the main began, Williams assumed the lead and set the pace over the first two laps before relinquishing the top spot to his oldest brother Cody Williams. He slipped back to third and stayed there until the race's midway point before dropping back a little farther. "I was on the bottom to begin with and it was obviously better on the start," Williams said about the Mohave main. "But it went away pretty quick. Cody got by me a couple of laps later and then KTJ (Kevin Thomas Jr.) got me. I went up to the top with them and was running third until lap 15 or 16 and then there was a yellow. I kind of messed up on the top a little bit and three or four cars got by me on the bottom. So, then I went to the bottom. Then it started taking rubber on the top and three more guys got past me. Just a combination of bad decisions and the track moving a little faster than I thought it was. I would like to have finished better. We had a good enough car to do it. That was a little disappointing but I can't complain about this season. That is for sure." Impressively, the ninth-place finish goes along with fifth, sixth, and seventh-place results in the first three races of the year. It is the best start of his career and he is thoroughly enjoying it. "It feels great," Williams said when asked what it feels like to run up front with the big dogs. "I have been waiting a long time to run up there with them. It feels good. We are figuring some new stuff out and we are trying some different things. It is starting to finally work out. I am just starting to figure out these cars and I have a brand-new car (DRC). The new things we have been doing with the car and the new things we have done with the chassis have been helping a lot." Not to be overlooked is the fact that he is currently, ranked higher in the series point standings than his two older siblings. Austin is two spots and 25 points behind him. Cody, who ended up second at Mohave, is currently 13th. "Yeah, a little bit," Williams laughed when told he currently has bragging rights over his brothers in the USAC/CRA standings. "They still have bragging rights over me because I have not won a race yet. That is my goal. If we can get a couple wins then I could really start bragging." When Williams gets back into action on the 27th at Perris, his teammate McCarthy, who did not contest the Mohave Valley race, will also be on the track. At the season opener in February, the Riverside, California driver was quick right out of the box. He qualified seventh fastest but was knocked out of his heat and the B main due to steering box problems. In March, the youthful-looking driver won his heat race and came from a 13th-place starting spot to finish 10th in the 30-lap A main. Adult tickets to see the Flowdynamics drivers in action on Saturday are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Advance tickets are available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. FINISHES SEASON-BEST SIXTH IN MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY USAC/CRA SPRINT CAR RACE
(Chino, CA, April 11, 2024) After a rough start to his season in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, things finally went Eddie Tafoya Jr.'s way when he placed sixth in the main event at the Mohave Valley Raceway. It was the first time this season that the past series Rookie of the Year placed in the top 10. Tafoya put his early season string of bad luck in the rearview mirror when he qualified second fastest in the tough 28-car field with a lap of 14.525. That was just .034 off the night's fast time. A sixth to fourth-place run in his ten-lap heat race sent him straight into the A-main. For the main, Tafoya started inside the third row in fifth and stayed around the top five all race long. When the checkers ended the 30-lapper, the Chino Hills, California driver flew past the flagstand in sixth. The finish was his best at the track since he recorded a third there on April 24th, 2022. All told, he has now competed at the racy little joint located near the Colorado River five times and he has three top-10 finishes. The results in Arizona saw Tafoya leapfrog from 15th in the USAC/CRA championship standings all the way up to 12th. Going into the next series race at Perris Auto Speedway, he could take another leap on the points table as he is only three points out of 11th and 15 points from 10th. Tafoya's woes in the 2024 USAC/CRA Series began at the season opener at Perris on February 24th. While running in the lead pack, he was clobbered from behind and sent careening into the infield crash wall. The impact destroyed the front end and he finished 21st. On March 16th at Perris, he was lightning quick and was running in the top 10 when his steering box failed with only three laps to go. That resulted in a 16th-place finish. Two weeks before the Mohave race, he ended up 12th at the Cocopah Speedway on a wind-blistered track that saw the main end 10-laps early when rain moved in. Tafoya's next appearance in the USAC/CRA Series will come at Perris on April 27th. Unfortunately for Tafoya and the other So Cal sprint car teams, the inaugural Ultimate Sprint Car Series race slated for this Saturday at the Ventura Raceway was canceled due to rain. However, good news is on the horizon. The series, which is presented by Inland Rigging, will kick off its schedule next Saturday, April 20th, at the Bakersfield Speedway. Tafoya will be in the Tom and Christy Dunkel owned Inland Rigging #17T for the historic first race for the new club. Spectator gates for the race on the famous Bakersfield oval will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6.:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors 65+ and military get in for $18.00. For kids 6-12 it is $15.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. The track is located at 5001 North Chester Ext. Ave., Bakersfield (93308). The track website is http://www.bakersfieldspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (661) 393-3373. Tafoya is always happy to meet the fans in the pits after every race. He will be signing autographs, posing for photos, and will also have his beautiful 2024 team shirts for sale. For fans who cannot attend the races, the team shirts are available at www.specialty-fasteners.com. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram @eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - BRODY ROA BOUNCED OUT OF ACTION BEFORE QUALIFYING AT MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY
(Cypress, CA, April 11, 2024) When Brody Roa first got started in racing, his father Brett told him to not get attached to a race car. Last Saturday night at the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car race at Mojave Valley Raceway, he found out exactly why. In qualifying, he sailed it into turn three and the car did not turn. Unfortunately, it did not stop either. It ended up clobbering the tractor tires that protect the pits. It signaled an end to his night before it had really started. When it comes to luck, Brody Roa, the champion of the 2023 USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, has had a lot of it in the two series races staged in Arizona this year. Unfortunately, all of that luck has been bad. For the second race in a row, the popular driver never saw a green flag in heat race action. A couple of weeks early at the Cocopah Speedway, which is about 190 miles south of Mohave, he gassed up the "Cactus Jack" Yeley #2 before his heat race and the drive shaft sheared off. Thus, two times in a row he made a long drive to get to the races only to be done before the heats. Last Saturday, Roa was back in the seat of a beautiful, brand new Jayson May #8M. It was the first time the duo had teamed up in a year and a half. The venue was the fast 3/8 mile banked Mohave Valley oval that is located near the Colorado River where Roa has starred in the past. However, on this journey, he had no time to shine. Heading into turn three in qualifying, the Garden Grove, California veteran's steering wheel came off. In the blink of an eye, he went from being a race car driver to being a passenger about to embark on a wild ride. Roa shot across the track, and then over the large runoff area on the top of the corner. However, he did not stop there. He went on to violently clobber the tractor tires that protect the pit area. The car tipped over upon impact. Fortunately, Roa climbed out unhurt but the car was thrashed. "This year has not been working out too great," Roa confided about his two 2024 races in the "Grand Canyon State. " Usually, Arizona is pretty good to me. I pissed off the racing gods or something this year. I need to figure out what I did and make it right with them." "We are not really sure yet on exactly what caused it," the veteran lamented. "Getting into three, I would not say the car bounced, but got in and took a set. I was putting some steering wheel into it. Something caused the steering wheel to come off. Once that happened, I was kind of along for the ride." "That is the first time that has ever happened to me," he continued. "I am pretty much, in lack of better words, kind of a "crackhead" about the steering wheel before I go out. I sit in staging and smack the thing up five seconds before I push off. We kind of have theories on what happened but not really sure. We know for sure it was not something coming loose or breaking or anything like that. I hope it is one of those one-in-a-million things." To make things even tougher to swallow is the fact that it was the first time the car was on the track. "He kind of put together two DRCs over the off season," Roa said of car owner May. "I know it had good speed before it happened. It completely destroyed it. Chassis is done and the front end is done. It broke the rear end and driveline. It hit so hard, it ripped the motor out of it. When I talked to Jayson yesterday, he was pulling the motor out and was going to look at it. Hopefully, the motor is fine. We will be ready again in two weeks." Roa will be in an identical car when he returns to action on April 20th at Bakersfield, April 27th at Perris, and at Kevin Harvick's Kern County Raceway on May 4th. "I really appreciate getting to drive for the May family," Roa said. "They are a great group. Going through that after putting a nice, brand new car together and junking it with not even five laps on it is not easy on the heart." Roa's next race will be in the three-time rained-out inaugural race of the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging at the Bakersfield Speedway on April 20th. Spectator gates for the race on the famous track will open at 4:00 p.m. with racing at 6.00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors 65+ and military get in for $18.00. For kids 6-12 it is $15.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. The track is located at 5001 North Chester Ext. Ave., Bakersfield (93308). - BRODY ROA RETURNS TO THE SCENE OF ONE OF HIS BIGGEST WINS, MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY, THIS SATURDAY
(Cypress, CA, April 4, 2024) Southern California's leading free-agent sprint car driver, Brody Roa, will return to action this Saturday, April 6th, on the track where he recorded one of his most impressive victories. The track is the Mohave Valley Raceway and the series is the USAC/CRA Avanti Windows and Doors Sprint Cars. The competition will be the third of the season for the 2023 series champion. Spectator gates at the 1/3 of a mile banked oval will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00. Roa will be getting back in the #8M 410 owned by Taft, California's Jason May. The duo last teamed up at the 2022 Turkey Night Grand Prix. They were supposed to reunite for last Saturday's inaugural Ultimate Sprint Car Series race presented by Inland Rigging at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. However, the main event winner throughout California last week was Mother Nature. She released her wrath with fury and canceled all races from the Southern end of the "Golden State" all the way to Nor Cal. Saturday's race will be Roa's fifth on the racy Arizona 3/8 mile, banked clay oval. His first appearance at the track on October 8, 2022, was by far his best. Driving the family owned #91R, things started off in ho-hum fashion when he qualified 11th fastest in the 32-car field. However, by the time his heat race rolled around, the car was a rocket ship. He easily outdistanced the stiff competition in the 10-lapper. Despite the fine performance in the heat, Roa was paying the penalty for the qualifying time when it came to lining up for the main event. He had to start inside the sixth row in 11th and virtually all of the big dogs were in front of him. If betting was allowed, he would have been a long shot to win from there and those who would have wagered on him would have cashed in handsomely. Roa steadily moved his way forward much to the delight of the large crowd who was cheering him on. With just three laps to go, he shot into the lead and sent the grandstands into a frenzy. Three circuits later, he raced under the checkers with a near half straightaway advantage. Roa made three appearances at Mohave Valley on his way to the 2023 USAC/CRA title. A year ago last weekend, he made it two in a row when he bested the tough field at the "Grand Canyon State" track. One month later he nearly did it again! He came from the sixth starting spot to finish second. Six months later he had his worst finish at Mohave Valley. It actually was not bad as he ended up sixth. Thus, after four races at the track, he has a phenomenal main event 2.50 finishing average. After sitting out the initial race this season at Perris Auto Speedway in February, Roa picked up the ride in the Chris Bonneau #15 for round #2 of the 20-year-old series at Perris on March 16th. The veteran driver from Garden Grove, California took the lead on lap 24 of the 30-lap main and seemed destined for victory. However, a freak part failure snatched the win away. The plastic fittings that snap the bleeder hoses into the wheel broke off. The issue sent Roa to the work area where the team made repairs and got him back on the track. With just four laps remaining, he drove from the back all the way up to fourth. Two weeks ago, Roa made the trek to the Cocopah Speedway to drive for long time racer and car owner "Cactus" Jack Yeley. After a disappointing qualifying effort, the team made a bunch of changes to the car with high hopes for the heat race. However, when he hit the throttle warming up for the 10-lapper, something broke and sheared off the drive shaft. That put an early end to his night. Saturday, he hopes for a much better result than he had at Cocopah. Gates at the longtime Arizona track, which is located less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, will open at 5:00 p.m. The first race of the night will take green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. For active military with proper id, it is $20.00. Kids 6-12 get in for just $15.00 and children five and under are free. It is cash only for tickets (no ATMs on site). Concessions, souvenirs, and the beer garden take cash or cards. For more information, the track website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/ and the office phone is (928) 346-6000. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. BACK ON TRACK THIS SATURDAY AT MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY
(Chino, CA, April 5, 2024) For only the fifth time in his career, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will be competing at the Mohave Valley Raceway this Saturday, April 6th, when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series visits the fast 3/8 of a mile banked oval. It will be the first of two series appearances at the track that is located five minutes from the Colorado River and 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada. Saturday's race will be the sixth for the series at the track promoted by second-generation racers Ron & Bill Meyer along with their families. Tafoya, who lives 240 miles southwest of the facility in Chino Hills, California, has competed there four times. The only series race he missed at MVR was 11 months ago when he was away competing at Ohio's Eldora Speedway. His best finish of the four came in his initial outing at the track when he placed third on April 23rd, 2022. Six months later he came back to "Arizona's Baddest Bull Ring," and finished eighth. In 2023 when Tafoya was back and forth between the Midwest and West Coast and was competing with the USAC National Sprint Car Series and USAC/CRA, he raced at the track on April 1st and October 13th. The now-veteran racer finished 12th and 13th. Neither finish was indicative of how the nights went. At the April 1st race, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year turned in the third fastest time in qualifying in the 30-car field. He started sixth in his 10-lap heat and finished third. For the main, the pretty #51T started on the inside of row three and stayed in the top five in the early laps of the race. However, he slid to a stop in turn one and had to restart at the back. After going to the rear for causing the yellow, Tafoya put on a show. Over the final 25 laps he passed more cars than any other driver in the race and ended up 12th. When he returned last October he was quick again. After qualifying 10th fastest, he steered his eye-catching car to the win in his heat race. In the main, Tafoya drove to second three separate times. However, each time a yellow came out, the scoring reverted to the last completed lap and he went back to third. He was still third when a red flag halted the action. When the race restarted, Tafoya's engine started to lay down and he wisely rolled it back to the pits to avoid damaging the bullet. He was credited with a 13th-place finish. Tafoya looks to get his season righted this week at Mohave. Through the first three series races of 2024, he has been plagued by bad luck and his best finish has been a 12th. Thus, he is ranked 15th in points. Despite that, he has an excellent chance to climb several spots in the standings at this week's race. Gates at the popular track, which is located less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, will open at 5:00 p.m. The first green flag of the night will wave at 7:00. After Saturday's race, Tafoya will be in one of the Inland Rigging Cars for the season opener for the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging at the Ventura Raceway on April 13th. He will follow that up with a USCS race the following week at the Bakersfield Speedway and will close the month in the USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto Speedway on April 27th. - LOGAN WILLIAMS IS UP TO THIRD IN THE USAC/CRA STANDINGS GOING INTO MOHAVE VALLEY
(Ontario, CA, April 2, 2024) Logan Williams, the youngest son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams, continued his impressive early season form when he placed sixth in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series rain-shortened main event at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway. The finish saw the softspoken Flowdynamics driver move from sixth to third in the series championship standings. This week Williams is headed back to the "Grand Canyon State" for round four in the series at the Mohave Valley Raceway. Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, went into the race on the banked 3/8 mile Cocopah oval fresh off a fifth place finish the previous week at Perris Auto Speedway. The Perris race also netted him the "In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award" after starting 15th. Before that at the season opener, he finished seventh at Perris in February. Williams, who has been driving the gorgeous Flowdynamics #5w since April of 2021, started the night off with his best qualifying effort of the young 2024 campaign when he went second fastest at 16.868. He followed that up with a sixth to second run in the second 10-lap heat race of the night. With winds howling and rain fast approaching, Williams lined up on the outside of the third row for the 30-lap main event. Early on, he methodically worked his way forward and drove up to fourth. Running there for several laps, he challenged for the third place spot before eventually slipping back to sixth. While he was still in the hunt for a top-five, the rain took over with 10 laps remaining. A red flag came out and the race was subsequently called complete with Williams sixth. The result gave him three top-seven finishes in the first three races of the year. Also, he has yet to finish in a worse position than he started in all three races. As mentioned, going into Saturday's race at Mohave Valley, Williams is third (tied for third) in the championship standings. He is a mere three-points out of second and only 10 markers behind the point leader. Gates at the popular track, which is located less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, will open at 5:00 p.m. The first green flag of the night will wave at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. - AFTER A WEEK OFF, SEXTON GATLIN RACING IS AT MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY THIS SATURDAY
(Lakeside, CA, March 31, 2024) After a week off, Sexton Gatlin Racing team drivers Brent Sexton and his 19-year-old son Grant will be back in action this Saturday night, April 6th, when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series races at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway. The race will be the first of two in 2024 at the track that is located minutes from the Colorado River. Going into the race on the high-speed all-action banked 1/3 mile oval, 50-year-old Brent, sits 14th in the series championship standings. In addition, he is second in the Rookie of the Year chase driving his Triple X chassis powered by a past Rico Abreu 360 Shaver Racing Engine. In three USAC/CRA races this season, his best finish was a 13th on March 16th at Perris Auto Speedway. In addition to competing in USAC/CRA's 20th season, the Tennessee native contested two open comp sprint car races and two So Cal Lightning Sprint Car events during the California Mid-Winter at the Imperial Valley Raceway. A three-time lightning sprint car champion (1999 & 2008 California Lightning Series and 2022 POWRi Southwest Lightning Series), he placed second and fourth at the two lightning races at Imperial. A week later he was 14th and 16th in the open comp sprints. Grant, who won the coveted USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year award in 2023, has been the victim of bad luck in the first three series races of the year. At the season opener at Perris on March 24th, the 2021 POWRi Lightning Sprint champion was forced out of the action early with overheating issues. Three weeks later after turning a career-best third fastest time in qualifying, he was battling in the top five in the main event when contact with another car sent him catapulting wildly into the catch fence. The frightening crash left the competitive driver with a destroyed race car and a not-so-happy disposition. Last week on the Lakeside, California team's first 2024 trip to Arizona to compete at the Cocopah Speedway, Grant turned in another good qualifying effort being seventh fastest of the 17 cars on hand. Brent qualified 14th. The father and son were matched up in the first 10-lap heat race at the track known as "The Diamond in the Desert." Grant earned the family bragging rights in that one placing sixth with Brent one spot behind in seventh. For the main event, Grant started in eighth and was hoping the prevalent heavy winds would blow away the bad luck he was plagued by in the first two USAC/CRA races of the year. Unfortunately, that was not to be. When the green flag waved he immediately went to the high side to fight with the Cocopah cushion. The talented teen got as far up as seventh before racing bad luck struck again. His pretty #22 car overheated and he wisely pulled it off the track to try and limit the possibility of damage to it. The culprit of the problem was a faulty water pump and the early departure saddled him with a very frustrating 15th-place finish. Brent started the main in 14th and was in the same spot when rain took over the track on lap 20 forcing a premature end to the race. This Saturday night the action swings to the racy Mohave Valley Raceway and both SGR drivers are familiar with the facility. Brent has enjoyed tremendous success on the speedy oval while racing lightning sprints taking three wins on the Meyer family-owned track since 2021. Saturday will be his first time attacking the track in a full-size sprint car. Grant's best outing at Mohave Valley came when he placed third in a POWRi Southwest Lightning main early in his championship season of 2021. Last year he ran three 410 races on the Arizona clay with USAC/CRA and made the A main at two of the three appearances. His best outing of the three happened when he came home sixth on May 6th. Gates at the popular track, which is located less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, will open at 5:00 p.m. The first green flag of the night will wave at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. - BRODY ROA BACK WITH CAR OWNER JASON MAY FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2022
(Cypress, CA, March 27, 2024) Weather permitting, for the first time since 2022, veteran sprint car racer Brody Roa will team up with Taft, California car owner Jason May at this Saturday's Dave Calderwood Memorial at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. It will be the inaugural race for the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging. Roa made several starts in May's gorgeous #8M prior to 2023 and to say the duo was impressive whenever they showed up at the track is an understatement. Their most memorable win came on August 8, 2022, in the USAC/CRA race at the Santa Maria Raceway. Wheeling May's 360 car against a full field of 410s, Roa qualified seventh fastest and started the main event on the pole. After leading the first 14 circuits on a track that was rougher than a volcanic lava field, the Garden Grove, California racing star lost the lead on the 15th go around. Not to be denied, he hung close to the new leader and snatched the top spot back on lap 21. From there, he led the final nine laps for a very exciting win. Eight months later, Roa and May swept a racing weekend in California's Central Valley. They kicked things off on Friday night in an open comp 360 race on the same Kern County oval he hopes he will be racing on this weekend if Mother Nature cooperates. Twenty-four hours later they made the short 64-mile drive to Tulare's Thunderbowl Raceway and triumphed once again. Tulare not being his best track, the victory surprised Roa. After the race, he told infield announcer Bobby Gerald and the excited crowd, ""If you would have told me I would have won a race at Tulare I would have told you that you were crazy. On an average night, a shopping kart could beat me around here." Roa's first triumph for May was a surprise as well. A week before Labor Day Weekend in 2020, Roa received a call from May offering him a ride in the #8M for the first ever Central Arizona Speedway Sprint Car Series races. Roa gladly accepted the offer and won the main event on the Casa Grande oval. One night later, he started the main in 13th and despite losing his brakes around the halfway mark, he came home in sixth place. "I did not drive for him at all last year," Roa said on Tuesday night. "2022 was the last time I ran for him. He did not run many races last year. One car is brand new. A new DRC. Similar to my package that I have here, so, I am looking forward to that. He spent a lot of time and effort getting engines back together last year. Part of the reason that he did not race a lot I think. He was collecting all of his eggs to put a good package together. I think we are both optimistic on how it is going to go if we get this weekend in." "I couldn't even tell you," Roa exclaimed when asked how many races he and May won together. " I was talking about it with my dad the other day. It seems like almost every time we went out we won." Last Saturday Roa drove a car for longtime racer and car owner Jack Yeley in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway. Unfortunately, that night ended a lot earlier than he hoped. After qualifying 12th in the 17-car field, the crew made some alterations to the car before the heat race. "It was a bummer for sure," Roa recalled about the short night. "We started off a little slow. We started tuning some things in and made some big changes for the heat race. We rolled around for a few laps. Right before we got lined up I went to hot lap out of turn two. About 150 feet on the gas, it let go. I do not know exactly what broke but it spit the driveshaft out of it. That was the end of our night." The May Motorsports entry is sponsored by Winfield's Racing Engines, RDM Mechanics, Cooper's Propane, TJM Distribution, TJM Distribution, Ten West Towing, Arctic Sea Mining, Wesco International, Elite Signs and Fastenal. Roa would like to thank his own sponsors, "Biker" Bruce Fischer, ALR Virtual Services, Burris Racing, Caltrol, Competition Suspension, K-1 Race Gear, Rod End Supply, Driven Racing Oil, Baldwin Filters, and NGK Spark Plugs. - JEFF DYER EXPERIENCED MIXED RESULTS IN LAST TWO RACES - WEATHER MAY AFFECT WHERE HE RACES SATURDAY
(Yucca Valley, CA, March 20, 2024) For veteran open-wheel racer Jeff Dyer, the past two weeks have produced vastly different results in two separate disciplines of open-wheel competition. On March 9th, the racing California Highway Patrol Officer finished second in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series main event at the Bakersfield Speedway. One week later, he ended up 19th in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series main event at Perris Auto Speedway. Dyer, who turned 41 last week, hopped into his son Seth's car for the impressive performance at Bakersfield. The unselfish teen offered Dyer the ride after the latter lost an engine during the California Mid-Winter Fair races at the Imperial Valley Raceway. The CLS has a throwaway rule where each driver throws out a race throughout the year. The elder Dyer used his throwaway when mechanical ills plagued him at the season-opening race. Thus, he could not afford to sit out the Bakersfield event. However, he was prepared to do so until Seth approached him with an idea. The teen would sit out and use his throwaway and his father would not lose a race. The move paid great dividends for both. Jeff got to race and in doing so, he got seat time in Seth's car and adjusted it for the teen's future races. After qualifying fourth fastest in the 14-car field with a lap of 13.062, the Yucca Valley, California racer placed fourth in his eight-lap heat race. For the main at Bakersfield, Dyer, who won a main event at the track last June, was starting on the inside of row three. After initially slipping back to sixth, the veteran racer moved back to fifth on lap four. Two laps later he executed a daring pass going into turn one. He passed two cars at one time and found himself in third. From laps six through 19, Dyer became mixed up in one of the best scraps for position the CLS has seen in quite some time. It was initially a seesaw battle with Aiden Lange that had them fighting for third place. Simultaneously, they sandwiched the second-place car and suddenly the battle between the two was for the number two spot. Dyer finally took control of that position on lap 19. He set his sights on the race-long leader, but victory was not his to be and he raced home second. When the CLS next hits the track in April, Dyer will be sixth in points. While things went well at Bakersfield, the same could not be said for the March 16th race in the USAC/CRA Series at Perris Auto Speedway. After qualifying with a lap of 17.117, things spiraled downhill in a hurry. In his heat race, lap seven contact with another car knocked him out of the 10-lapper. The tangle destroyed the front shocks, a wheel, and a few other bolt-on parts. Dyer and his crew got the car repaired for the main event and he started the 30-lapper in 19th. Things were going better until lap 22 when disaster struck. As Dyer sped into turn four, a car was stopped on the cushion. With no time to miss the car, Dyer threw it sideways and hit it. The contact saw Dyer get airborne and head back across the track where he landed on top of another car before settling right side up. This time the yellow #39 sustained too much damage and was towed back to the pit area to be loaded back into the trailer. "We hit sideways," he commented about the main event tangle. "It was no man's land at that point in time as I had already committed. We hit Ricky Lewis bounced down the track and then Cody Williams hit us. We were ready to flip and when Cody hit us it brought us back down to earth. Cody had nowhere to go. It (the crash) ripped the rear end out of the car and it destroyed the header and some other bolt-on pieces. Actually, it was not as bad as we thought. The chassis is okay. I thought it was going to be bent for sure. It is all fixable. Unfortunately, I was gone last week and we could not get it fixed for Cocopah." "I really did not expect the track to be that good and I completely missed the setup in qualifying," the CHP Officer nicknamed "Ponch" lamented. "We were way too tight. In the heat, we were doing pretty good and then we got in that tangle. We were pretty good in the main, too. We need to do a little bit more to the car. I called Spike ( the Spike Chassis company) and got some notes from them. Actually, the notes they gave me, we were quite a bit off from where we should be. With the changes they told us, we should be a lot better." Last week Dyer was doing some training at the CHP facility in Sacramento, California. Being there for the week meant he did not have time to fix his car for last Saturday's USAC/CRA race at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway. Weather permitting, he will return to the track for the first race in the new Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging at the Kevin Harvick Kern Raceway this Saturday, March 30th. In case of inclement weather, Dyer and his teenage son will head south to the Barona Raceway for the So Cal Lightning Sprint Car race. If the race happens at Kern, hot laps will begin at 4:45 p.m. and opening ceremonies will be at approximately 6:30. Adult tickets are $25.00. Kids five and under are free. The track is located at 13500 Raceway Boulevard Interstate 5 and South Enos Lane in Bakersfield. The track website is https://www.kernraceway.com/ and the office phone is (661) 835-1264. If the weather gets the best of Kern and Dyer heads to Barona, the track is located at 1754 Wildcat Canyon Road, in Lakeside, California. Gates will open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday with racing at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. For kids 7 to 17, admission is $10.00. Seniors, Military, and EMTs also get in for $10.00. Children 6 and under and parking are free. Family packs of two adults and two kids are $50.00. The track website https://baronaspeedway.com/ and the phone number is (619) 994-6560. Upcoming on Dyer's schedule is a date at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on April 6 for round #4 of the USAC/CRA Series. On April 13th he and Seth will make the long drive north to the Merced Speedway for the opening battle in the annual California Lightning Sprint Cars vs Bay Cities Racing Association Civil War Series. In 2024, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyers on track. Dependable Machine Inc., Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, LBA Investigations, Straight Time Stirrups, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com. - AFTER AN INTERESTING NIGHT AT PERRIS, SEXTON GATLIN RACING HEADS TO COCOPAH SATURDAY
(Lakeside, CA, March 21, 2024) After what was a very interesting night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visited Perris Auto Speedway last weekend, Sexton Gatlin Racing drivers Brent and Grant Sexton are headed to Arizona's Cocopah Speedway Saturday night, March 23rd. The race will be round number three of the 2024 campaign for the top traditional sprint car series west of the Mississippi. Last Saturday had a dream start for 2023 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year Grant Sexton. The 19-year-old, who was the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Series champion in 2021, flashed some of his talent on several occasions in 2023. However, last Saturday, he seemed to put it all together in one night. He was the first car on the track to qualify. A lightning-quick surface greeted the 24 cars on hand and produced the best times for several drivers including a nearly new track record. Grant led off the session with a career-best 16.258. That ended up being the third fastest time of the night. In addition, it was his fastest-ever qualifying lap at The PAS. Brent qualified later in the order. Like his offspring, the 50-year-old had his best qualifying lap on the famous track, a 17.575. It was his first time in the 17s at the track that is located 72 miles east of Los Angeles. Brent started eighth in the second heat and finished fifth. Grant started sixth in his heat, and like his dad, he finished better than where he started when he came home in fourth. That was important for Grant as the finish put him in the inversion and he started fourth in the 30-lap main. It was his best starting position in a USAC/CRA main event. Had he finished fifth or farther back in the heat, he would have started seventh in the feature. Once the race began, Grant was giving a good account of himself early on by trading sliders to stay in the top five. The key word was early on. To be precise, the first three laps. In turn four on the third circuit, contact with another car launched him into orbit and a resulting thud high on the catch fence. The incident destroyed his beautiful #22 car. When the car came back down to earth, Grant climbed out under his own power. The young driver was uninjured but let his feelings be known that he was not happy with the incident. Once the crash scene was cleaned up, the race resumed and Brent was still in it. In fact, he was in it 28 laps later when the checkered flag flew. In between lap 2 and 30, the race was plagued by yellow and red flags due to numerous crashes. Even though he was one of three rookies in the race, he managed to avoid the chaos and finished 13th after starting 21st. The morning after the race at the team's Lakeside, California headquarters, the crew was busy building a new car for this Saturday's show at Cocopah. "Highs and lows," Brent Sexton commented when asked how last Saturday went for him. "Obviously, it was great sitting in the car and watching Grant go out first for qualifying and setting the third fastest time of the night. It was his best qualifying effort in USAC. So, we were stoked about that. And then I qualified faster than I ever had at Perris getting into the 17s. All around it was our best qualifying effort as a team." "Watching our buddy Braden (rookie Braden Chiaramonte who went to the hospital after a crash, but who is doing fine) being carted out in his heat race was kind of disheartening. The same with Grant being one of the first ones out in the main in the crash. I did not see it as they were too far ahead of me. I was at the tail end." The front gate will open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Cocopah with the first race at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors and military with id get in for $18.00. For students 13-17 it is only $10.00 and children 12 & under are free. The track is located at 3450 W. County 15th Street in Somerton, Arizona (85350). - LOGAN WILLIAMS GETS HARD CHARGER AWARD AT PERRIS - RACES AT COCOPAH THIS SATURDAY
(Ontario, CA, March 21, 2024) Flowdynamics team driver Logan Williams came from the 15th place starting spot to finish fifth in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series race last Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway. The determined effort earned the veteran driver the night's Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars in the 30-lap main event. Combined with his sixth-place finish in the season opener in February, Williams enters this Saturday's race at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway tied for fifth in the 2024 championship standings. Williams, the 2014 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, was joined by Flowdynamics teammate Matt McCarthy, the 2017 series Rookie of the Year, at the famous Southern California half-mile clay oval. Kicking off the night, McCarthy, who lives in nearby Riverside, California, was fourth fastest in hot laps at 16.816. Williams, who calls Yorba Linda, California home, was 14th at 17.217. By the time qualifying rolled around, the racing surface, which was juiced up from recent rains, along with cloudy, and cool temperatures, produced the fastest qualifying session in several seasons at the famous speed plant. McCarthy was 13th quickest in the top-notch 24-car field when he stopped the clocks at 16.568. Williams was only two spots behind at 16.603. That was good enough for the 15th best time of the night. McCarthy, who was knocked out of the season opener with a faulty steering box, dazzled the competition by snaring his initial heat race win of the year after starting on the outside of row #1 in the first 10-lapper. A few minutes later, Williams started in the same position in his heat and drove to a second-place finish. Due to their qualifying times, the gorgeous #28M McCarthy car and the equally beautiful #5W of Williams started 13th and 15th respectively in the main. Both cars proved to be rocket ships in the race. Once the green flag flew, they headed toward the front of the pack and began passing cars. With two laps to go, Williams was fourth and McCarthy was directly behind him. However, soon after the green light flashed back on, McCarthy clipped the wall out of turn two. Unfortunately, his car suffered enough damage that it had to be towed off and he finished 10th. After McCarthy's bad luck, Williams was fourth going into the last lap of the race. However, another car got past him on the final circuit putting him fifth at Steve Russell's checkered flag. While Williams is headed to Arizona for Saturday's race, McCarthy, who is 20th in points, will be taking this week off. The front gate will open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Cocopah with the first race at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors and military with id get in for $18.00. For students 13-17 it is only $10.00 and children 12 & under are free. The track is located at 3450 W. County 15th Street in Somerton, Arizona (85350). They will be glad to sign autographs for you and each will have their fine-looking team shirts available. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. HOPES FOR A CHANGE OF LUCK THIS SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE COCOPAH SPEEDWAY
(Chino, CA, March 21, 2024) Eddie Tafoya Jr. hopes to turn around what has so far been a bad luck-plagued season when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visit Arizona's Cocopah Speedway this Saturday night, March 23rd. The track could turn out to be a slump buster for the popular driver as two years ago this past January, he notched his first second-place finish in the series. The runner-up result combined with seventh and ninth-place finishes on the same weekend kick-started a season where he finished third in series points. Last Saturday night at the USAC/CRA Series race on its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, Tafoya timed in 14th fastest in the 24-car field with a lap of 16.574. He followed that up with a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat. For the main, the 26-year-old started in 14th. Alertly dipping and diving to stay out of the early crashes that plagued many in the field, he was in the top 10 in the second half of the 30-lapper. The now veteran driver was fast in the race as only seven drivers recorded faster laps than his 18.356 on the sixth circuit. However, his effort was short-circuited when his steering box broke on lap 27 sending him into the turn three crash wall. Tafoya was not injured, but his car had to be towed back to the pits and he was credited with a 16th place finish. The race came three weeks after the Chino Hills, California resident was breaking into the top five in the main event when he was clobbered from behind and knocked out of the season-opening feature at Perris. Even though he has had a rough start to the 2024 season, Tafoya is still tied for 16th in the championship standings going into Saturday's race in the "Grand Canyon State." A top finish, which he is more than capable of, should catapult him into the top 10 going into the next series event at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on April 6th. Sandwiched in between will be the inaugural race of the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on March 30th. Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, made his debut at Cocopah at the January 2022 races. Since that weekend, he has raced at the track three more times. They included the 2022 Western World Championship which featured the USAC National Sprint Cars along with USAC/CRA. He qualified for the A main each night recording 16th and 19th place finishes. Last year in the Western World, Tafoya lost two engines. The second came in the B main when he had third place and a trip to the A main locked up. The track website is http://www.racecocopahspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is 602-292-7607. Tafoya is always happy to meet the fans in the pits after every race. He will be signing autographs, posing for photos, and will also have his beautiful 2023 team shirts (pictured below) for sale. For those out of town or who cannot make it to the races, the shirts are also available online at specialty-fasteners.com. If you would like to hear the friendly driver on his 2023 Dirt Tracks and Rib Racks Podcast, please visit the following link https://open.spotify.com/episode/1Hox9dg0iRGXo0szabeqDy Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram @eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - ROA'S APPEARANCE AT PERRIS SURPRISED EVERYONE LAST SATURDAY - THIS WEEK ON TO COCOPAH
(Cypress, CA, March 19, 2024) In 1986, the band Timex Social Club had a hit top-10 single named "Rumors." Last Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series visited Perris Auto Speedway, drivers were hoping that reports of defending series champion Brody Roa being in the house were rumors. Much to their chagrin, the rumors proved to be true and Roa was back on the track where he scored two of his eight series victories in 2023. Last year Roa teamed with Tom & Christy Dunkel and drove their immaculate Inland Rigging #17R to the series championship. In January of this year, he announced that he was stepping out of the car to spend more time with his wife Tailor, and their two young daughters. That was great news for the competition as Roa had a 40.9 win percentage in 2023. That was the best 410 non-wing win percentage in the nation. Needless to say, hearing he was at the track, the competition knew they would have to step up their game. They are going to have to do that again this coming Saturday night when the series heads to Arizona's Cocopah Speedway. Roa has stated all along that he was not retiring from racing, but he wanted to step aside from working on a race car every night. Last week, he started looking for a car to drive at Perris. Initially, he hunted in Southern California. When he did not turn anything up, he decided to shift his effort east to Arizona, and that is where he struck gold. "I had been reaching out to a few people throughout the week," Roa said while watching his daughters play on Tuesday night. "I saw a replay of a race from last year and saw Chris Bonneau racing and was wondering what he was doing last week. I sent him a message and he was originally planning on coming over himself to race. I got a text from him about 3:30 on Friday asking if I wanted to drive his car." Roa's wife asked the veteran driver if he knew Bonneau. He told her he had said, "Hi," to him before, but they never really talked and he had never really looked at Bonneau's race car. He did know that some good drivers had driven it before and Bonneau had done good in it as well. "Every time I see him at the track, he really looks good," the Garden Grove, California racer said. "It (the car) runs and he never looks like he is fighting any issues. That was kind of the deciding factor on a hard "YES" once he asked me if I wanted to run it. Seeing how nice it was, was really comforting walking into it." The race was Roa's first in nearly four months since last season's Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway. Anyone who had notions that there could be some rust on the friendly driver had those thoughts quickly expunged in qualifying. He turned a sizzling 16.482 lap on the brightly lit oval. That was the seventh fastest time in the talent-laden 24-car field. On what turned out to be an extremely fierce night of competition, Roa started fourth in his 10-lap heat race. He slipped one spot back and finished fifth. That knocked him out of the possibility of getting into the inversion for a top-six start in the 30-lap main. When the 22-car field rolled onto the track for the A main on the windy, and cold Southern California night, Roa was starting on the outside of the fifth row in 10th. Needless to say, he faced a difficult task if he wanted to get to the front. Undeterred and up for the challenge, he got his elbows up and started driving his way towards the head of the pack. It was a night when getting there was going to be tough. Not only due to the stiff competition starting in front of him but also avoiding multiple wild crashes that saw cars sustain heavy damage or flat out being destroyed. Roa's persistence paid dividends. Much to the delight of the crowd, he raced Boneau's Priced Right Auto Sales/Triple X Racing Components/Competition Suspension Incorporated/Fisher Engines/DRC #15, into the lead on lap 24. As soon as he got there, he started moving away from the competition. However, his time at the point of the field was limited to a pair of laps as he slowed on lap 26. "I can't exactly tell you how it happened, but I can tell you what did happen," Roa said reflecting back on the race. "On the bleeders, there are two hoses that go in the wheel. The two plastic fittings that snap into the wheel were snapped off. Some how a rock got through the inside of the wheel or something. I have no idea how it ever could have happened. But when my dad pulled the wheel cover off in the work area, the bleeder hoses were sticking straight out and the bases were still in the wheel. Kind of a freak deal." "It (the right rear tire) just went flat. I passed for the lead and after a couple of laps, I went down the back straightaway and felt it getting low. I went into three and the car just kept wanting to go straight. I immediately slowed up and it brought out a caution. I was just hoping we could get back by as many cars as we could." On the restart, Roa had some fast cars and some not-so-fast cars starting in front of him. So once again, he had his work cut out to try and go forward. He masterfully worked his way past cars over the final four circuits. When the Steve Russell checkered flag ended the exciting 30-lapper that featured seven official lead changes, Roa was fourth. Needless to say, "The Pride of Garden Grove" was happy with Bonneau's car and the team was happy with him. The driver and owner both left the window open and he may get other shots in the car as Bonneau wants his car to win a main at Perris. If anybody is interested in having Roa drive for them this year, he will gladly take the call. That is the case this weekend when he jumps into one of the Avanti Windows and Doors/Glen Styres Racing/Apache Scapes/CK Electric cars owned by Jack Yeley Racing at the Cocopah Speedway. The race will be on the same track that Roa swept the weekend with two victories in January of 2023. "It just came together," Roa said. "I talked to him ("Cactus" Jack Yeley) Saturday a little bit. He was giving me crap for sitting on the couch for the first Perris race. I told him I was looking for rides. I told him he had my number if he wanted me to race for him this weekend and he called me last night to come drive one of his cars." The front gate will open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Cocopah with the first race at 7:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Seniors and military with id get in for $18.00. For students 13-17 it is only $10.00 and children 12 & under are free. The track is located at 3450 W. County 15th Street in Somerton, Arizona (85350). The track website is http://www.racecocopahspeedway.com/ and the office phone number is 602-292-7607. On Saturday, March 30th, Roa will return to longtime friend and car owner Jayson May's #8M for the inaugural race in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series Presented by Inland Rigging at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. The May Motorsports entry is sponsored by Winfield's Racing Engines, RDM Mechanics, Cooper's Propane, TJM Distribution, TJM Distribution, Ten West Towing, Arctic Sea Mining, Wesco International, Elite Signs and Fastenal. - AVANTI USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS CLASH AT COCOPAH SATURDAY
After a wild main event at Perris, the Avanti Windows & Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will take center stage this Saturday, March 23rd, at Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, Arizona. Promoted by Brad Whitfield, the third point race will also feature IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Hobby Stocks.
- AFTER TWO NIGHTS OF ACTION AT IMPERIAL VALLEY, SEXTON GATLIN RACING RETURNS TO USAC/CRA COMPETITION SATURDAY AT PERRIS
(Lakeside, CA, March 15, 2024) After a weekend of racing during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway, Sexton Gatlin Racing drivers Brent and Grant Sexton will return to the home track of the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, Perris Auto Speedway, this Saturday Night, March 16th. The event will be round #2 of the 2024 USAC/CRA campaign. Brent, 50, comes into Saturday's race on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval 16th in the USAC/CRA championship point standings. In addition, he is third in the Rookie of the Year chase. He placed 15th at the season opener on the same track three weeks ago. Grant, 19, battled overheating problems all night long and pulled out of the main early at the opener. He ended up getting credit for 17th and enters Saturday's fray 19th in points. Last Friday and Saturday the father and son duo contested both nights of the Imperial Valley Raceway 360/410 Sprint Car Series. Journeying 127 miles from their El Cajon, California home, the two were close together in qualifying on the first night. Grant was seventh quick with a 12.662. Brent was only a blink slower at 12.882. However, in a tight qualifying group, he was four spots behind in 11th. Matched together in the first heat of the night, Brent earned bragging rights in the SGR pits by placing second in the first 10-lapper. Grant ended up sixth. In the 20-lap A, Grant came home ninth with Brent 12th. Night two saw Grant turn in the seventh fastest lap again with a time of 13.091. Brent's 13.277 was good enough for 10th best in the 18-car field. Once again they were matched in the same heat and this time youth prevailed when Grant came home third with Brent fifth. In the Saturday finale, Grant picked up his first top-five of the early season when he placed fifth. His dad ended up 16th. "My qualifying effort was better for me," Brent Sexton said. "I think I was 10th and 11th both nights. I was pretty stoked with it. It was nothing spectacular but I am still learning the car. I felt a lot more comfortable on the quarter mile and was getting racy with those guys. The more seat time I get, the more comfortable I will be." Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and the first race will get the green flag at 7:00. Adult tickets for the night of exciting dirt track racing and clean family fun are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00, and children 5 and under are admitted free. Advance tickets are available online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7. They can also be ordered by phone at 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not wish to purchase tickets in advance, there will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. BACK IN ACTION AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
(Chino, CA, March 14, 2024) When the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway for round #2 of the 2024 season this Saturday night, March 16th, Eddie Tafoya Jr. hopes for a better result than he experienced at the season opener in February. Through no fault of his own, he was knocked out of the 30-lap main event and the tangle cost him a top finish. After a month and a half off following January's Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, Tafoya got into his gorgeous #51T for the first time this year on February 24th. He then had a week off before last Friday and Saturday's Imperial Valley Raceway 360/410 Sprint Cars show during the California Mid-Winter Fair. After this week at Perris, he will journey to Arizona's Cocopah Speedway for the third round of the USAC/CRA Series. He will wrap up the busy month when he drives one of the Tom & Christy Dunkel-owned Inland Rigging Specials in the first race of the new Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on March 30th. It is the first full month of racing in what promises to be an extremely busy 2024. At last month's race at Perris, Tafoya, 26, was headed toward the front of the pack in the 30-lap main event when he was clobbered from behind by another car at nearly 100 mph. The bash sent him careening into the inside crash wall on the front straightaway. One look at the car and the crew knew he was done for the night as the front end was torn out. Last weekend at Imperial, Tafoya raced on Friday and Saturday. Rear-end problems forced him to miss qualifying on the opening night. With repairs made, he started at the back of the eight-lap heat race and advanced forward to finish fifth. In the 20-lap feature, he again started at the back and finished 13th. Twenty-four hours later, things started much better when the affable Chino Hills, California resident qualified sixth fastest of the 18 cars on hand with a lap of 12.784. A third-place finish in his eight-lap heat race earned him the sixth place starting spot, outside row three, in the 30-lap A main. The friendly racer stayed within the top eight for the first two-thirds of the event. However, a spin necessitated by someone else's mess late in the going forced him to restart at the back and he finished a frustrating 17th. Fans can see Tafoya and the remainder of the stars from the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series this Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will get the green flag at 7:00. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit at the Ramona Expressway, and go three miles east to the fairgrounds. For directions online, the address to enter is: 18700 Lake Perris Drive and the zip code is 92571. Tafoya is always happy to meet the fans in the pits after every race. He will be signing autographs, posing for photos, and will also have his beautiful team shirts for sale. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE PICKS UP HIS FIRST WIN OF 2024 AT IMPERIAL VALLEY - HEADED TO PERRIS THIS SATURDAY
(El Cajon, CA, March 12, 2024) In only his third start of 2024, newly turned 17-year-old Braden Chiaramonte outdistanced the field in the Imperial Valley Raceway 360/410 Sprint Cars main event last Saturday night. The triumph was the first of his young career in a 410 sprint car. Riding the crest of his victory wave, the talented teen driver will be back at Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, March 16th. Saturday's victory came on the second straight night of racing during the California Mid-Winter Fair. Eighteen cars showed up for the race at the track that is located just north of the USA/Mexico border. Chiaramonte, debuting a bright red #73B paint scheme on the weekend, was the fourth-fastest car in hot laps. He followed that up by qualifying second fastest with a time of 12.594 in the 18 car field. That placed him in the second heat where he finished fifth. By the time the cars came onto the track for the 30-lap Saturday main event, blustery winds and cool temperatures had taken over. Still, the track was very racy. Chiaramonte had some veteran heavy hitters from California, Arizona, and Ohio starting in front and behind him in the stacked finale. In his typical confident style that belies the fact that he is only 17, he showed all of the savvy of a longtime pro and steered his way to the front for the first 410 sprint car win of his career. Last week's victory came on the second weekend of racing during the annual fair. Before his Saturday win, he also competed Friday on the same track. Thirteen sprint cars were in the pits for the Friday show. As usual, Chiaramonte was fast from the first time he wheeled his #73B onto the racing surface. He was the fastest in hot laps with a time of 12.248. Moments later, he turned in the fastest qualifying time of the night at 12.335. Later in the evening, he came home eighth in his heat and fifth in the 20-lap main. Dating back to October of last year, Chiaramonte has competed in his 410 sprint car five times. Amazingly he has never finished worse than eighth. And, the night he finished eighth, he started 16th. The other finishes include a win, a fourth-place finish, and two fifth-place results. This Saturday night Chiaramonte will return to Perris Auto Speedway for round #2 of the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car Series. At the season opener three weeks ago, he qualified 17th fastest on the famous half-mile clay oval with a lap of 17.343. A sixth-place finish in his heat forced him into the 12-lap B main where he came home second. That was followed by another impressive performance when he came from 16th to eighth in the main. In that finale, only one of the 22 other drivers bettered his sizzling lap of 17.072. Chiaramonte enters Saturday's Perris race eighth in the USAC/CRA championship point standings. In addition, he is second in the series Rookie of the Year chase. For fans who would like to see the rising young star take on the best non-wing drivers west of the Mississippi on Saturday, spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult tickets for the night of exciting dirt track racing and clean family fun are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For directions online, the address to enter is: 18700 Lake Perris Drive and the zip code is 92571. After this week's race at Perris, Chiaramonte and his team will head east to Arizona's Cocopah Speedway on March 23rd for the third USAC/CRA race of the 2024 campaign. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. RTL Traffic Control, AM Ortega, Hyper Racing, Chop Design, Adams Motors, Hacienda Casa Blanca Fine Mexican Dining, Evil Plus Injection, King Racing Products, Tyner, and Keizer Wheels. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. 2024 USAC/CRA SERIES OPENING NIGHT RESULTS
(Chino, CA, March 1, 2024) Eddie Tafoya Jr's promising opening night in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at Perris Auto Speedway came to an end when he was clobbered from behind in the 30-lap main event. One of the favorites for the series title in 2024, his #51T will be repaired and ready for round #2 at the same Riverside County half-mile clay oval on March 16th. Twenty-seven cars showed up for the 2024 season opener on a chilly Southern California night. Tafoya's popular sprint car, adorned with red foil trim, was one of the 27 on hand and he first showed the speed of the flashy machine when he was seventh fastest in hot laps with a best lap of 17.343. That was followed up with a 16.889 time in qualifying, which was 10th fastest in the talent-laden field. Tafoya, 26, started third in the series' first 10-lap heat race of the campaign and advanced up to second by race end. The finish earned him a ticket straight into the 30-lap main event. For the A, the 2018 PAS Young Guns Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year started on the outside of row four in eighth. Working his way forward, the talented driver was attempting to break into the top five. However, at the end of lap nine, he was clobbered from behind on the front straightaway. The hit triggered a multi-car crash that sent Tafoya hard into the inside wall. The wallop tore the front end out of the car and left him with an annoying 21st-place finish. Tafoya was set to debut in the new Ultimate Sprint Car Series Presented By Inland Rigging this Saturday at the Ventura Raceway. However, on Thursday morning track officials canceled the race due to incoming rain. The race has been rescheduled for April 13th. The veteran racer will now debut in the USCS when it visits Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on March 30th. While the Chino Hills, California driver saw this weekend get washed out, he will still have a busy month of on-track activities. This coming Friday and Saturday, March 8th and 9th, Tafoya and Inland Rigging teammates Tommy Dunkel and Austin Williams will be racing during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway. Both nights will be complete shows. He will make his first of two 2023 trips to Arizona's Cocopah Speedway on March 23rd. Those races will be joined by the aforementioned March 16th and 30th dates at Perris and Kern. Tafoya's busy schedule will continue in April when he will be racing every Saturday during the month. On April 6th and 27, he will be contesting USAC/CRA races at Mohave Valley Raceway and Perris. Sandwiched in between will be USCS shows at Ventura and the Bakersfield Speedway. - FLOWDYNAMICS SPRINT CAR DRIVERS ARE READY FOR 2024 USAC/CRA OPENER AT PERRIS
(Ontario, CA, February 23, 2024) The Flowdynamics Sprint Car Team, comprised of Matt McCarthy and Logan Williams, is set to make its 2024 debut when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the season opener for the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. The race, which is the first of 22 for the 20-year-old racing association, will be the first of 10 on the Flowdynamics home track. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will begin at 7:00. Last season saw the Flowdynamics drivers run a more relaxed schedule in the series. Yorba Linda, California's Williams contested 11 races and placed 11th in the series championship standings. McCarthy, who lives in the shadow of the Perris track in nearby Riverside, raced seven times. Williams finished in the top five, five times, and had a season-best fourth-place finish at Perris on June 10th. McCarthy, who was doubling as a little league baseball coach last year, had four top-10 finishes highlighted by a sixth at The PAS on September 23rd. Before their time in the USAC/CRA Series, both of the drivers competed in the Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns. Williams, the son of National Sprint Car Hall of Famer and inaugural USAC/CRA champion Rip Williams, was the first-ever Young Guns Champ in 2013. One year later he was crowned USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year. Three years after Williams won the Rookie of the Year Award, McCarthy captured the same title. After Saturday's race, the Flowdynamics team returns to Perris Auto Speedway for round #2 of the 2024 USAC/CRA championship season on March 16th. Adult tickets for Saturday's race are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. BEGINS THE MOST IMPORTANT SEASON OF HIS RACING CAREER
(Chino, CA, February 23, 2024) Chino Hills, California resident Eddie Tafoya Jr. will begin the most important season of his career when the Avanti Doors and Windows USAC/CRA Sprint Cars Series kicks off its historic 20th anniversary season on Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway. For the first time in his sprint car career, Tafoya is a bona fide contender for the series title. This year marks Tafoya's fifth full season running a 410 sprinter. After winning the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns championship, he jumped to the USAC/CRA Series in 2019 and captured the Rookie of the Year award. Unfortunately, in 2020 Covid stepped in and like almost everyone else, the year was a wash for the young driver. When racing returned in 2021, Tafoya, whose father Eddie Sr. was the 2016 Perris Senior Sprint Car Champion, really began to hone his craft. In 16 stand-alone USAC/CRA races that year, he only finished out of the top 10 three times. He had 13 top 10s and placed in the top five six times. His best finish of the campaign came when he placed second at the Cocopah Speedway in late January. When the dust settled on the 2022 season, the handsome racer ended up third in the championship standings and he was only 21 points out of second. A July trip to Huset's Speedway in South Dakota to contest three nights of racing in the USAC National Sprint Car Series saw Tafoya's star shine brighter. On a track he had never been on before and facing a star-laden field of competitors, he won a heat race and made the main event every night. Included was a 10th-place finish in the middle race. Last season Tafoya made a massive decision to spend a lot of time racing away from his California home. Instead, he decided to spend the majority of the year on the USAC National trail. All totaled, he entered 36 races in 2023. Twenty-six of those were racing against the best non-wing 410 drivers in the world in the USAC National Sprint Car Series. He is hoping those laps will help propel him to the 2024 USAC/CRA title. The trail to that championship begins Saturday in Perris. In addition to competing for the championship in the USAC/CRA Series in his family-owned #51T, Tafoya will also seek the crown in the brand-new Ultimate Sprint Car Series. In that competition, he will be steering an Inland Rigging team car owned by Tom and Christy Dunkel. The series will stage its inaugural race on March 2nd at the Ventura Raceway. On top of getting the cars ready for the year, Tafoya has a new hauler. He was thrashing on it on Thursday and Friday to have it ready for Saturday's season opener. The now veteran driver took delivery of his brand new, beautiful 2024 shirts and he will have them on sale for the first time at Perris on Saturday night. If you cannot make it to the track, they are available online at www.specialty-fasteners.com. Spectator gates to see Tafoya in action on Saturday will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult tickets for Saturday's race are $30.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Advance tickets are available 24 hours a day online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7 or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For those who do not want to purchase advance tickets, there will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday. The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking. Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Perris Drive in the City of Perris. The track website is http://www.perrisautospeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (951) 940-0134. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE KICKS OFF 2024 SEASON AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY
(El Cajon, CA, February 22, 2024) One of the brightest young stars in open wheel racing, Braden Chiaramonte, will kick off his busy 2024 racing schedule with an appearance in Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 20th anniversary season opener at Perris Auto Speedway. The race will only be the third time the young star has raced a 410 sprint car and the first time he has done so at Perris. 2024 will be the first year in his budding career that sprint cars will be the main focus for the El Cajon, California-based racer. His current plan for the season is to compete in Northern California's Sprint Car Challenge Tour for Tyner Motorsports and the USAC/CRA Series in the family-owned #73B. In addition, he will also be racing some of the biggest micro shows in the nation. Chiaramonte, who turns 17 on Sunday, has raced a 410 sprint car two times in the past. Both of those came late last season at USAC/CRA races in Arizona. In both, he looked like a seasoned veteran and finished ahead of many of the West Coast's top stars. The first effort came at the Mohave Valley Raceway on October 14th. He shocked everyone by qualifying third fastest in the 27-car field and placing fourth in the main after starting ninth and briefly leading at one point. A few weeks later at the Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, Arizona, he raced a 410 sprint car for the second time. Competing against a tougher field, he qualified seventh fastest of the 28 cars on hand. In the main, he started seventh and steered his family-owned #73B forward to finish fifth. The two races in Arizona gave Chiaramonte two top-five finishes in his first two 410 races. That is indeed a rare feet as 410 non-wing sprint cars are among the most volatile race cars on the face of the earth. It usually takes drivers time to get comfortable and mash the throttles in the powerful machines. Saturday's race will not be Chiaramonte's first rodeo at Perris. In fact, he has visited victory circle there in the past with the POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints. It will also not be his first appearance with the USAC/CRA Series at the famous Riverside County track. On two occasions at the track last year he took on the West Coast's best non-wing 410 open wheel racers. Even though he was racing a 360 against a field of strong 410s, he was moving up to 10th when he was punted into the wall on March 18th. He restarted at the back and came forward to 16th. He returned to the track in July but ended up 20th due to mechanical ills. "Our first two races went really good," Chiaramonte said about racing a 410. "We are still learning car setup and everything. I think the wing sprint cars have helped a lot because you are going so fast. It makes the non-wing cars feel like you are not going so fast. The wing stuff makes you drive a lot straighter. I think that helps a lot, too." This weekend he will be on equal level with the "big guns" with a 410 for the first time at Perris. "I am really excited," the well-spoken teen racer said. "It is going to be fun. That is for sure. Perris is fun, but it is a scary track at the same time. It is definitely a cowboy up track with the high straightaway speeds and the tight corners. You are going so fast on the straightaway and the next thing you know you have a really sharp turn to go through. You can't be scared of it, that is for sure." Great news for fans, but perhaps not the competition, Chiaramonte will be around a lot this season. It looks like he will only miss a handful of races. With good results, he could be a contender for the Rookie of the Year award. "We could be (a contender for the rookie award) if we do good these first couple of races and get a good point lead," Chiaramonte said. We still could have a shot. We will be running Tyner's car in the SCCT Series. I think right now with our schedule between SCCT and USAC, we are only going to miss around six races (USAC)." With his busy sprint car season, Chiaramonte will be cutting down on his micro schedule. "Out in California, we won't be running a lot. We will be running the KKM Challenge race (at Plaza Park in Visalia, California in March). That will be the first one in the micro and then we are going back to Texas again (Texas Micro Mania at Lil Texas Motor Speedway in April). We are going to try and hit big shows in the micro but we are going to focus on the sprint cars." Chiaramonte has brand-new shirts that will be available at Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday. Spectator gates to see the young racing star in action on Saturday will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. The track website is http://www.perrisautospeedway.com/ and the office phone number is (951) 940-0134. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible.
