- JEFF AND SETH DYER BACK IN ACTION THIS SATURDAY AT VENTURA
(Yucca Valley, CA, September 25, 2024) Dyer Motorsports will be back on the road this Saturday night, September 28, when the father and son team of Jeff and Seth Dyer make the 165-mile trek from Yucca Valley, California, to the Ventura Raceway. The California Lightning Series race will be the family team's fourth night of action in three weeks. Two weeks ago at Ventura, both the #4 and #4JR were in action. In only his second night back after two months off due to a broken arm and concussion he suffered in a violent crash in a USAC/CRA race at Perris, Jeff, a California Highway Patrol Officer by day, placed third in the main. Seventeen-year-old Seth finished three spots behind his father in sixth. Earlier that night, Jeff recorded the second-fastest qualifying time with a lap of 12.363. Seth, who gets faster with each passing race, was fourth at 12.695. Matched together in the second heat, Jeff captured his lead-tying fourth heat race win of the season. Seth took third in the same race. Those finishes came 24 hours after Jeff placed eighth and Seth finished 11th in the CLS main at the Bakersfield Speedway. Last Saturday night, Seth was representing Dyer Motorsports/Cal Smith Racing in the Perris Auto Speedway Young Gun Series. At the last Young Guns race, Seth swept the show, winning both his heat and the main event going away. Things started out the same last weekend when he won his heat race with a full straightaway advantage. His main event fortunes looked bright. However, his shifter cable broke when he was bumping off for the main event, denying his chance to make it two in a row. In addition to Seth racing with the Young Guns last Saturday, longtime veteran Cal Smith drove the same #39 car in the USAC/CRA portion of the show. Unfortunately, Smith left the action early and finished 18th. Fortunately, his early exit meant he had no chance of being involved in the multitude of accidents that saw several cars destroyed. After Saturday, Jeff and Seth will head north for the final round of the Civil War Series that matches the CLS with Northern California's BCRA in the 10th Albright Memorial at Doug Lockwood's Merced Speedway on October 5th. To see Jeff and Seth take on the CLS' finest this Saturday on the "Best Little Dirt Track In America," adult tickets are $18.00. For seniors 65 and over, it is $15.00. Military and students with ids also get in for $15.00. Kids 12 and under are free when an adult accompanies them. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., and the first race will get the green flag at 5:30. The track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard (93001). The website is http://venturaraceway.com/, and the office phone number is (805) 648-RACE. If you have a Facebook account, Seth did an interview before last Saturday's race. You can hear it here https://www.facebook.com/reel/1019188306156799. In 2024, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyers on track. Dependable Machine Inc., Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, LBA Investigations, Straight Time Stirrups, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR SCORES ANOTHER TOP 10 FINISH AT KERN - HEADED TO VENTURA THIS WEEK
(Chino, CA, September 7, 2024) After racing on two different racetracks in 24 hours two weeks ago, Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to action this Saturday night when the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging returns to the Ventura Raceway. It will be the final tune-up at the track before the series returns to wrap up its initial season at the Turkey Night Grand Prix in November. Tafoya's last appearances came on August 31st and September 1st. Up first was the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars in the Johnny Vermeer/Narcie Ferreira Classic at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, where he finished ninth in the main event. Twenty-four hours later, the popular driver led several laps before getting knocked out of the race and finishing 17th in the USCS event at the Santa Maria Speedway. At Kern, Tafoya qualified 14th fastest of the 27 USAC/CRA Cars who turned up to race at the track in the city known as "Nashville West." A second-place finish in the beautiful #51T in his 10-lap heat race had the 27-year-old primed and ready for a good run in the main event. Despite starting 14th in the 30 lapper, Tafoya showed that he had speed on the night. The Chino Hills, California Racer managed to move forward and stay out of the turn-one hole that plagued many competitors. When the checkered flag ended the race, he had moved up five spots to finish ninth. That gave the friendly driver eight straight top 10s in USAC/CRA this season. It was also his eighth top 10 in 11 starts in the tough series. The following night, Tafoya shined in qualifying at Santa Maria. In the USCS, drivers draw a number and time trial against the racers they will compete with in their heat race. Tafoya was the fastest qualifier in his group, and his time of 13.522 was the fourth fastest time in the 26-car field. After a fifth-place finish in his 10-lap heat, Tafoya lined up outside the front row for the main event. On a track that was definitely a "Cowboy Up Surface," Tafoya flew into the lead at the drop of the green flag. The 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year maintained the top spot for the first five laps before slipping back to second on the rough terrain. "It was very tough," Tafoya said of leading the race with cars right behind. "Especially getting into lapped traffic in two and a half laps or whatever it was. I kind of overshot the setup a little bit. I got too aggressive when I probably should have rolled it back a bit when I knew it was going to be rough. I knew I was starting up front, and I knew I did not want to be too loose and I ended up being too tight." "It is really tough on the restarts when you are tight," the 2018 Perris Young Gun champion continued. "That is pretty much the only time I was losing anything. Besides that, we were going forward." Tafoya stayed in the top five for over three-quarters of the race. However, after a lap 24 restart, he was hit by another car on his left side in turn four. The clatter sheared off the steering arm from the steering box. It knocked him out of the race and lowered him from a top-five finish to 17th. "For the first time in a long time, I felt really balanced," Tafoya said about the speed over the weekend. "I felt like I could go anywhere I really wanted to. That was good to feel as it has been a while since I had that. It was work through the week; I just went through everything. I made sure everything was perfect, square, and centered. I made sure all of my measurements were right. Sometimes you have a spell of races where you're just not feeling it, so you just have to go back through all that stuff." Tafoya will be making his third appearance of the season at Ventura this Saturday, September 14. The now-veteran driver hopes to improve on his frustrating results at the famous track earlier this year. On June 1st, at the start of the main, Tafoya was leading the pack going into turn one when something broke in the front end of his car and sent him careening into the wall. That ended his night. Seven weeks later, at the track known as "The Commotion By The Ocean," he was drilled from behind on a restart. The blow resulted in a flat tire that knocked him out of the race. The veteran driver is more than capable of big results on the track located adjacent to the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean on the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Two years ago when USAC/CRA visited Ventura, Tafoya outqualified the field and placed fifth in the 30-lap main event. Spectator gates to see Tafoya at Ventura will open at 3:00 p.m., with racing at 5:30. Adult tickets are $22.00. Seniors 60 and over, military with ID, and students with an ID get in for $18.00. Children 12 and under are free when they are accompanied by an adult. The track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard (93001). The website is http://venturaraceway.com/, and the office phone number is (805) 648-RACE. Friendly Tafoya is always happy to meet the fans in the pits after every race. He will sign autographs, pose for photos, and sell his beautiful 2024 team shirts. For fans who cannot attend the races, the team shirts are available at www.specialty-fasteners.com. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram @eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - ROOKIE BRENT SEXTON HAS SEASON-BEST USAC/CRA FINISH AT PERRIS - RACING VENTURA THIS SATURDAY
(Lakeside, CA, July 18, 2024) Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car rookie driver Brent Sexton scored his best series finish of the season when he placed ninth in the 30-lap main event last Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway. This Saturday, Sexton and his 20-year-old son Grant will head to the Ventura Raceway for the Ultimate Sprint Car Series, presented by Inland Rigging, "Surecam Showdown." Flying solo last week as Grant was home ill, Sexton, 52, began the night with a 17.482 lap in qualifying. That was the 14th fastest of the cars on hand. He followed that up with an eighth-place finish in his 10-lap heat. Needless to say, the night was not going the way he had planned. Sexton was slated to start the 30-lap main event in the 13th starting position. Then things began to improve. Before a lap was officially recorded, he moved up a couple of spots due to the extracurricular activities of some of the others in the field before a lap was completed. When things finally got sorted out, Sexton, driving the flashy white and fluorescent orange #22 Triple X Chassis powered by a former Rico Abreu Shaver 360, was very racy and was battling in the top 10. Sexton got hooked up in a great side-by-side duel with Yucca Valley, California veteran Jeff Dyer. The two have raced against each other for years in the lightning sprints and they kept the crowd entertained by racing side by side for nearly ten thrilling laps. In the end, Lakeside, California-based Sexton avoided the chaos and brought the #22 car home ninth. It was his first USAC/CRA top 10 of 2024 and his second-best lifetime series finish. The only better one came on June 10, 2023, when he made his debut in the series at Perris and shocked everyone by coming home sixth. "I think I was up to starting sixth when the race got going," Sexton laughed about last Saturday's main. "There was a lot of attrition, and that helped. Also, staying out of the wrecks helped a lot. I am happy with it. I will take it and get ready for this week's race." "The biggest kick for me was the battle I had with Jeff Dyer," Sexton said. "We raced side by side for a lot of laps. We have raced against each other for years in lightning sprint cars, so it was a lot of fun racing hard with him on Saturday." Unfortunately, Dyer was involved in a serious crash when another car flipped and landed on top of him near the end of the race. The blow knocked Dyer out, and his foot pushed the pedal down. He hit the wall with a Titanic force and then flipped. While he quickly regained consciousness, it took EMTs quite some time to get him out of the car as they were immobilizing an arm he broke in the crash. Sitting in his car, Sexton was worried about his friend. "I was sitting in the car and heard over the radio it was Jeff," Sexton recalled. "It was taking some time to get him out, so it was kind of scary and worrisome wondering what was wrong and why it was taking so long. It was a relief when they said it was an arm injury and they were just being careful getting him out." Sexton is a three-time Lightning Sprint Car Series champion, and he still dabbles with the smaller cars when he does not have a full-size sprint car series race. In fact, he won a SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series race on San Diego County's Barona Speedway on May 25th. However, he has the time of his life in the full-size cars and wishes he had made the jump up a long time ago. "I am having so much fun," Sexton said when asked about driving the larger, more powerful cars. "I wish I would have bitten the bullet and done it before so I could have raced against some of the legends. Guys like David Cardey, Rickie Gaunt, and others." The wily veteran, who is third in the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year standings, is 13th in the season-long championship points chase after 10 of 23 races. Sexton Will make the transition from the big half-mile at Perris to the 1/5-mile Ventura oval this Saturday. It will be his third race in the USCS. His best finish so far was a 10th at Ventura on June 1st. His other outing in the club came in May at the Bakersfield Speedway. Unfortunately, he left that one early after slapping the turn 4 wall and finishing 20th. He goes into Saturday's dirt track war 22nd in USCS points. Saturday will be Grant's first race since a July 6th affair at the Santa Maria Speedway. That night, he was knocked out of the main event on lap two and finished 20th. He was slated to compete at Perris last week but scratched due to feeling under the weather. In his first three appearances with the USCS, the 2023 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has a third, a fifth, and a 16th-place finish. He will be in a tie for 15th when he arrives at the beachside oval on Saturday. Spectator gates for Saturday's USCS race at Ventura will open at 3:00 p.m., with racing at 5:30. - JEFF DYER IS AWAITING SURGERY AFTER A CRASH IN SATURDAY'S USAC/CRA MAIN EVENT AT PERRIS
(Yucca Valley, CA, July 14, 2024) Veteran Southern California sprint car driver Jeff Dyer is currently in the hospital waiting for surgery after a crash in Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series main event at Perris Auto Speedway. The popular driver suffered a broken right humorous bone in the grinding pile-up that occurred on lap 25 of the main event. In addition to the broken bone, he also suffered a concussion and will be confined to the hospital for a week. The incident happened when another driver's steering box malfunctioned, and his car pounded the turn one crash wall. When he came off the wall, the driver began to flip down the track. Dyer, with nowhere to go, got clobbered by the flipping car, and they hit cage to cage. "I just saw him jumping the cushion in turn one," Dyer said from his bed at the Riverside University Hospital. "I tried to turn down, but he started to flip. I do not remember anything after that. When I hit him, we hit cage to cage. Our cage got pushed in pretty good. We think that is when I broke my arm as my seat got hit really hard. When that happened, it knocked me out and it knocked the wind out of me. We think my foot stayed on the throttle." What happened next was something Dyer is probably glad he cannot remember. His 900-horsepower car blasted head-on into the turn-two crash wall and then into one of the track's sponsor billboards before tumbling back down to earth. Safety crews were on the scene in a flash, and he quickly regained consciousness. He remembers the safety crew telling him to "shut the fuel off." At that point, he did not realize he was hurt until he tried to get out of the car, and his "arm was not working." He then remained in the car for quite some time as the EMTs wanted to ensure his arm was stabilized before they removed him for the trip to the hospital. "I did not even know that happened until someone told me," he said when reminded he clobbered the crashwall and the billboard. "I just thought I hit Logan and came to a stop. I did not know all of that other $#@? happened until afterward." Dyer, a Yucca Valley, California resident, is resting kind of uncomfortably as he waits for Monday's surgery. "I am pretty sore," he said. "Of course my arm hurts really bad. It was a clean break all the way through. So they are going to put some rods and pins in it and put me back together like Humpty Dumpty." Another injury in the crash is the car. Dyer's teenage racing son Seth reported that he thinks the car is junk. However, the engine is fine, as it did not get over-revved in the crash. There has been a big outpouring of best wishes and prayers for Dyer on the Internet, and he appreciates that. "That is really cool, man," he said from the hospital. "I appreciate that and thank them very much. I heard a lot of people came down to the pit afterward and helped everyone load everything up. So, that was pretty cool, too. Thanks to those people as well." While his arm is broken and needs fixing, one thing that has remained intact is Dyer's tremendous sense of humor. "I am glad I could make the 9.8 scale," he laughed when told that's what judges would have scored the crash. "That is nice. As long as I entertained, that is what we are there to do." In 2024, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyers on track. Dependable Machine Inc., Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, LBA Investigations, Straight Time Stirrups, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com.
