- NARC CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE BRINGS SPRINT CARS TO STOCKTON DIRT TRACK FOR TRIBUTE TO GP
(10/28/24 - Ben Deatherage) Stockton, California ... On Saturday, November 2nd, all roads for the NARC King of the West championship led to the 41st Annual Tribute to Gary Patterson at the Stockton Dirt Track. This highly anticipated event, marking the end of the 65th Anniversary season for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series, is the last chance for fans to witness the awe-inspiring, fire breathing, 900+ horsepower machines that define the series. "We are always proud to host the NARC and SCCT sprint cars at the season finale," said promoter Tony Noceti. "Not only are they bringing the best open wheel racing on the west coast, but their championships will be decided at the Stockton Dirt Track." The Tribute to Gary Patterson is not just an event, it's a cornerstone tradition of the NARC 410 Sprint Series. Gary Patterson, one of the original 'true Outlaws,' left an indelible mark on the sport, winning the Gold Cup at West Capital Speedway and the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ascot, both in 1977 and Skagit Speedway's storied Super Dirt Cup in 1973. His legacy lives on through this event, which honors his memory and contributions to sprint car racing. Since 1984, there has been a Tribute To GP, which began at Calistoga until 2007. Silver Dollar Speedway was honored to have the race from 2008 to 2012. The Stockton Dirt Track has been the home of the event since 2013 and, from 2017 to the present, has been the championship event for the NARC 410 Sprint Series. Steve Kent and Brent Kaeding have the most wins in the event, with four each. Roseville's Justyn Cox who drives for the Bates-Hamilton Racing Team is one of many teams looking to get in victory lane. "I love Stockton, it's close to home. It's kind of a home track for me, and Tony Noceti works hard, and he is doing his best to make it a great racetrack. I appreciate that we have a promoter that's willing to stick his neck out there like he does." The companion division for the night will be the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360 sprint cars and the Legends of Kearny Bowl. Championship Chase The battle for the King of the West championship has been nothing short of intense, with Justin Sanders and Cole Macedo locked in a nail-biting fight for the top spot throughout the season. The thrill of this competition is going to keep everyone on edge as a mere three points separate the two. That is the difference between winning and second place. Both drivers have won at the newly configured 1/4-mile clay oval on the two previous trips this season. Macedo won the Asparagus Cup in April, while Sanders was victorious at the Salute to LeRoy Van Connett in May. Driving the Mittry Motorsports #2X machine, Sanders, from Aromas, CA, won the Tribute to GP in 2022. He's accumulated three wins in 11 career NARC starts at Stockton. Macedo, representing Lemoore, aboard the Tarlton Motorsports #21 entry, has yet to finish outside the top five in NARC action since the track was reshaped last winter, with his worst performance being a fifth in May. Sanders occupied the podium twice in the doubleheader last weekend, with a second at Kern County Raceway and a third at the Anthony Simone Classic in Hanford. Macedo was involved in a hard crash at Kern that forced him to bow out early and surrender the point lead only to rebound spectacularly by winning the Simone at Kings Speedway. Who To Watch 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding wants to reenter Stockton's legendary winner's circle. The Campbell chauffeur has posted consistent results with sixth and seventh-place efforts on the smaller variety of the track. His most recent NARC win was at Stockton in August of 2019. Dylan Bloomfield hopes to grab his first-ever NARC victory for his car owners, Dave and Debbie Vertullo. The Oakley teenager was ninth in his last series appearance at "The Van Connett" in May. Shane Golobic has won twice on the old 3/8-mile of Stockton and hopes to add a "New Stockton Dirt Track" win to his impressive resume. The Fremont pilot of the Matt Wood Racing #17W has also won the Tribute to GP twice when he was triumphant in 2014 and 2019. Justyn Cox is happy to be back doing what he loves: racing Sprint Cars. Coming back from injury last weekend. The Roseville driver is hoping to deliver a strong finish after showing a lot of speed in the previous two trips to the track this year. The driver-team combination already has hit pay dirt this season with a victory at Oregon's Cottage Grove Speedway during the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. For Fresno's Dominic Scelzi, this will be the first time he's been to the new Stockton with NARC. The two-time NARC champ did log some laps when the World of Outlaws were in town on September 6th. Scelzi has historically excelled at the old track, winning three times and has been consistently quick the last few weeks with the tour. Tim Kaeding has been a major storyline in 2024 with NARC, as he's shown he still possesses his jungle-cat quickness. The two-time series champion, hailing from San Jose, has cracked off a couple of wins in the last few shows with the Williams Motorsports #0 team. "TK" won the Tribute to GP in eight-year increments, 2008 and 2016. Will that trend continue? Not only is a series championship on the line but so is the title of Rookie of the Year. Easton's Caeden Steele leads the charge of the trio of youngsters battling in the NARC top ten. He was eighth at the Asparagus Cup in April. Fellow Rookies, Gauge Garcia from Lemoore and Clovis' Dominic Gorden will try their best to end the season on a solid note. In the Keller Motorsports #2K car, Garica has tenth and 11th place finishes at Stockton to his credit. Gorden was eighth the last time NARC was at Stockton, and it kicked off a positive trend of strong results for the young man. D.J. Netto of Hanford is another driver who has enjoyed a lot of success on the old configuration, with wins in 2021 and 2022, but is looking to score a win on the new one. The 2019 NARC champion was 16th at the Asparagus Cup in his only appearance at the track. In April, Nick Parker had a special moment when he managed to record his first career NARC top five. Finishing fifth at the Asparagus Cup, the Arizona transplant now residing in Chico is hopeful that another successful outing is in the cards. Journeying from Benicia, Billy Aton has some unfinished business at Stockton. Leading most of the first half of the Salute to LeRoy Van Connett, his engine stalled and caused a crash when it looked like another victory was in his grasp. Can he get on top of the podium to close out 2024? You will have to be there to find out. Fan & Competitor Info There will be a NARC champions autograph session taking place in front of the grandstands between 3:00 and 5:00. The Stockton Dirt Track is located at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds at 1658 S Airport Way in Stockton, California. - COLE MACEDO BOUNCES BACK WITH IMPRESSIVE SIMONE CLASSIC VICTORY TO TIGHTEN NARC POINTS CHASE
After crashing the night before at Kern Raceway, Cole Macedo and the Tarlton Motorsports team circled the wagons and bounced back to make a big statement with the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series scoring an Anthony Simone Classic victory at Kings Speedway.
- Brooks and Bates-Hamilton Racing claim top-10 in Trophy Cup points/ Cox returns for NARC double header
Tulare, CA…Putting together a pair of consistent nights to finish Trophy Cup 30, Landon Brooks and Bates-Hamilton Racing secured a ninth-place result when it came to the final standings at the prestigious event. It completed a solid few weeks for Brooks aboard the BHR No. 42x as he filled in for the injured Justyn Cox, who is set to return this weekend. "We made progress each night at Trophy Cup so that was a positive," Brooks stated. "I felt really good in the feature on Saturday, but just made some mistakes on restarts however, overall, I felt like we all learned a lot and got better each night." A robust field of 65 Winged Sprint Cars competed this past Thursday during the Abreu Vineyards Trophy Cup presented by Rudeen Racing opener at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway. The night produced an evening of fifth place results with Brooks timing in P5 overall, before finishing fifth in his heat race and fifth in the B-main, just one spot shy of transferring. Returning on Friday, the show began with the 21-year-old turning the 13th fastest lap in his group. He then started third in his heat race and drove to victory, automatically placing the Lippert Construction/ Mozingo Construction/ Dan Ewart Sales/ B Scadden Design No. 42x in the feature. Starting on the inside of row two Brooks battled around the top five for the duration, as track conditions made things difficult to make progress. After 30-laps of racing he brought home a fifth-place finish at the checkered flag. Brooks and BHR went into the Trophy Cup finale on Saturday holding down 10th in the overall points. A drive from seventh to fifth in his heat race set the Rio Oso wheelman up with a seventh row starting spot in the 50-lap conclusion. A fast-paced main event proceeded to occur, which saw the opening 34-laps click off caution free, prior to the mandatory red flag for fuel and adjustments. At that point Brooks occupied the 15th position. The remainder saw him methodically battle his way forward, ultimately crossing the stripe ninth when all was said and done, also earning a ninth-place result in the final points. Bates-Hamilton Racing now turns its attention to the penultimate weekend of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series season. After sitting out since August due to a back injury, the No. 42x team welcomes back Justyn Cox for the Central Valley two-step. Friday night takes place at the Kern County Dirt Track, while Saturday brings teams to Kings Speedway powered by Keller Motors for the Anthony Simone Classic. "I'm really looking forward to getting back in the seat and finishing the NARC season," Cox commented. "At first, I planned to sit out the remainder of the season, but after about five weeks my back felt like it was healing and not bugging me as much. It will be an adjustment seeing how everything feels under speed, but I have been cleared to race and I feel capable." After missing two events, Cox ranks ninth in the NARC standings going into the weekend, while Bates-Hamilton Racing stands third in the owner points. "I'm thankful for BHR letting me come back and finish the season, and I'm really hoping to end it strong," said Cox. "I'm thankful for everyone who sent me well wishes and the NARC Benevolent Fund for helping me. Without their assistance, I wouldn't have been able to take some time off and rest properly." π©ππππ-π―πππππππ πΉπππππ would like to thank Lippert Construction, Dan Ewart Sales, VinylTech PVC Pipe, Mozingo Construction, Clow Valve, Teichert Construction, Advanced Drainage Systems, Custom Pipe and Fabrication, B Scadden Design, Specified Pipe, North Bay Waterworks, SIP, Tigre, Star Pipe Products, McWane Ductile, Kaeding Performance, Kistler Engines, Maxim Racing, Sellers Race Wings, ART Enterprises, Rod Tiner Racing, Tiner-Hirst Enterprise, Vanlare Steering Repair, Arbo-Tec, Performance Powder Coating, Warehouse Paint, Justice Brothers, K1 Race Gear, Arai Helmets and Bullet Impressions for their support this season. πππππ¬-πππ¦π’π₯ππ¨π§ ππππ’π§π Trophy Cup 30 Quick Recap- Thursday October 17 in Tulare: Qualified (5th), Heat Race (5th), B-main (5th) Friday October 18 in Tulare: Qualified (13th), Heat Race (1st), A-main (5th) Saturday October 19 in Tulare: Heat Race (5th), A-main (9th) ππ©ππ¨π¦π’π§π πππππ¬- Friday October 25: Kern County Dirt Track - NARC 410 Sprint Cars Saturday October 26: Kings Speedway in Hanford - NARC 410 Sprint Cars (Anthony Simone Classic) π¦π½πΌπ»ππΌπΏ π¦π½πΌππΉπΆπ΄π΅π: Custom Pipe and Fabrication Since 1972 Custom Pipe & Fabrication has offered the highest quality products, materials, and services for the water industry. - NARC SPRINT CARS DOUBLING UP WITH LATE SEASON STOPS AT KERN RACEWAY AND KINGS SPEEDWAY
(10/22/24 - Ben Deatherage) Bakersfield, CA ... The 65th Anniversary NARC 410 Sprint Car Series campaign is quickly winding down but will offer a fix of open wheel racing with a rare October doubleheader this weekend featuring shows at two different facilities. Fans will be treated to 900+ horsepower sprint car racing at Kevin Harvick's Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Friday, October 25th, for the October Classic. This show runs in conjunction with the ARCA stock car series, which will be practicing and qualifying on the neighboring half-mile paved oval earlier in the day. Then the show moves over to the dirt track. Kings Speedway in Hanford will cap the weekend with the Anthony Simone Classic on Saturday, the 26th. The Anthony Simone Classic, a race held in memory of the late Fresno-based driver, is a unique event in the NARC 410 Series. Known as 'Mr. Excitement,' the event is a celebration of Simone's spirited personality and legendary stories, both on and off the track. His iconic #10 machine and trademark mustache were synonymous with his racing career where he raced on both pavement and dirt. "Returning to my home track in Hanford, I believe we have a slight advantage due to the numerous laps I've run there," said Cole Macedo, the current NARC point leader. "We also had a strong performance at Kern last year, and I'm eager to tackle both tracks." Since its establishment in 2021, the Simone Classic has yet to have a repeat winner, with Shane Golobic, Rico Abreu, and Corey Day scoring wins. Complementing the NARC 410 Series at Kern County will be the Western Midget Racing series and the Southern California Dwarf Cars. The Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints and the Western RaceSaver Series 305 Sprints will join the card at Hanford. Championship Chase Cole Macedo brings a slim 11-point advantage into Bakersfield, a position he reclaimed after his victory at the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on October 12th. Now back in the driver's seat of the championship chase for the NARC King of the West title, the Lemoore racer hopes to build a healthy cushion to ease the pressure of going into the November 2nd season finale at Stockton. "Ultimately, the goal is to have a big enough points lead where we can have some breathing room at Stockton," mentioned Macedo, "I'd love to have a little bit of a bubble to have a decent night and not worry about it, run really hard, and put it all on the line." In the lone NARC trip to Kings this season, Macedo piloted the Tarlton Motorsports #21 entry scored a pair of third place finishes during the Morrie William Memorial Twin 20s and won the event championship. His last journey to Kern ended with a fourth-place result, his career-best at the facility. On the other side of the battlefield is Justin Sanders. The Aromas driver is determined to bounce back big after a heartbreaking night at Tulare, which saw him bow out early due to mechanical problems. Something notable that favors the Mittry Motorsports #2X chauffeur is that he's achieved wins at both tracks. The last two times NARC has been to Hanford, both during the Williams Memorial weekend, Sanders has won. His lone winner's circle visit at Kern was on October 30th, 2021. While there is no doubt the chase for the King of the West championship has been a primary focus, the race for third in the table is also a hot contest between three competitors. 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding leads the trio, rustling for third in points. Representing Campbell, Kaeding has a streak of five consecutive Top 10 finishes. A winner at Kings in 2012, he boasts four top five's and a lone podium at Kern when he finished runner-up in 2019. Leading Rookie of the Year candidate Caeden Steele hopes to rebound from a tough night in Tulare a couple of weeks ago. Trailing Kaeding by 18 markers, the Easton driver will hope to carve his way to the podium in his remarkable campaign. At Kings at the beginning of the month, he was tenth and sixth in the Twin 20s of "The Morrie." He has never made an appearance at Kern. Completing the current top five in points, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield is among several drivers hungry for his first career NARC feature. Aboard the Dave and Debbie Vertullo-owned #83V, he finished fourth and fifth in his last two series starts, with his previous venture to Kings producing a fifth-place result, and he was sixth in his most recent outing at Kern. He's 26 points behind Kaeding and just eight markers behind Steele. Who To Watch Shane Golobic, as noted, will be a driver to be on the lookout for. The Fremont pilot in the Matt Wood Racing #17W has had a fair share of success at both venues. His lone win at Hanford was the Simone Classic in '21, while he's collected three victories at KCRP, including one in 2021 and two in 2018. Two-time NARC champion Dominic Scelzi is also ready to rip at two tracks he's managed to succeed at over the years. The Fresno phenom swept the pair of NARC events at Kern in 2019 and has amassed an impressive win total of five visits to victory lane at Kings. Two other newcomers not to be discounted are Gauge Garcia and Dominic Gorden. Behind the wheel of the Keller Motorsports #2K, Garcia had an impressive third place at Kings, while his lone appearance at KCRP resulted in a 15th place finish. posting. Both results were from last year, but the young man from Lemoore finished eleventh in both Twin 20s for the Morrie Williams Memorial at Kings earlier in October. Dominic Gorden remains the only Rookie to have won a NARC main event this season. The young man from Clovis recently had his best run ever at Kings when he finished ninth in the second Twin 20 a few weeks ago, and in his only trip to Kern, he was seventh last year. A notable addition to the mix will be Justyn Cox, who steps back into the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X entry after a hiatus due to an injury suffered at the Douglas County Dirt Track on August 26th with the High Limit Series. Before being sidelined, Cox picked up a win at Cottage Grove this season and was in contention for a victory at Santa Maria in late July. The Roseville racer has a good history with NARC at Hanford, including eight Top 10s in eleven career starts, including two podium finishes. 2019 NARC champion D.J. Netto is hopeful to earn his first series win of the season. It has not been for lack of trying. The Hanford native was a couple of laps away from doing so at Tulare in the most recent NARC event. Arizona transplant Nick Parker is looking to build off of what's been an incredible 2024 season. Now living in Chico, Parker has procured a pair of his first career top five results with NARC earlier this season. Benicia's Billy Aton is another NARC regular making the journey this weekend. He has three top ten finishes this season, with one coming at Kings. He has five top ten's at Kings, including a fifth-place finish in 2021. - THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY HOSTS NARC SPRINT CARS FOR RESCHEDULED CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL ON SATURDAY
(10/7/24 - Ben Deatherage) Tulare, CA ... The cars and stars of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are gearing up for their final appearance at Thunderbowl Raceway in 2024 with the highly anticipated running of the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. This is the last chance to witness the 900+ horsepower machines tear up the monster cushion "claymaker" factory facility this season. "Tulare's been one of my favorite tracks and fits my driving style of running the top where the cushion develops," stated current Rookie of the Year points leader Caeden Steele, who placed third in the last Tulare installment. "We've been getting some good runs this year and just need to step it up and get that first NARC win and I think Tulare would be a great place to do it." The Faria Memorial marks the 20th show of the 65th Anniversary season for the Northern Auto Racing Club and the second trip to the Thunderbowl this year. This event was initially slated for early May before lousy weather washed out the night. Fortunately, the series and the track were able to work it into the schedule before year end. The race is run in memory of two members of the storied Faria family. Chris unfortunately passed away in a farming accident in 1993, and Brian was tragically killed in an automobile crash in early 2006. This is the first time since 2021 that NARC has been a part of the Faria Memorial. The companion divisions for the evening will be the Sprint Car Challenge Tour/Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints and the Western RaceSaver Sprints. Who To Watch The championship has been a nail-biting battle for practically the entire season. Justin Sanders and Cole Macedo have been fiercely competing for the title of King of the West, like two prize fighters. As they head into Tulare, the two have some comparative stats, such as average finishes at the track, with Sanders boasting an average of 12.500 in eight starts and Macedo a 12.333 in three feature showings. The Aromas pilot aboard the Mittry Motorsports #2X has a narrow seven-point advantage ahead of the current runner-up Macedo, from Lemoore, in the Tarlton Motorsports #21X entry. But Sanders is the only one of the two with a podium when he achieved a third in the 2023 Dennis Roth Classic. However, Macedo was fourth on the last visit to the facility, while Sanders was 11th. The current point standings leader won the first of two main events of the Morrie Williams Memorial last weekend, while Macedo won the overall event based on his finishes. Back in May, at Tulare, the above-mentioned Rookie of the Year contender, Steele, showed the Sprint Car world that he was looking for a legit threat to win some races. It was the second time the Easton teenager landed on the podium this season. Other Rookies looking to hit pay dirt include Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, aboard the Keller Motorsports #2K, and Dominic Gorden of Clovis. Gorden is the only one of the trio to score a NARC feature victory this season. The last time the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series visited Tulare, Shane Golobic hoisted the winner's check above his head. It has thus far been the only time that the Matt Wood Racing #17W pilot occupied victory lane in 2024 with the series. But one thing is sure: never sleep on the talents of Shane and his crew chief brother Dustin Golobic, as they are a force to reckon with no matter what's running at the Thunderbowl. D.J. Netto has just one lone NARC win at Tulare in 2015 but would love to be back in victory lane. The last time the Hanford driver was at the famed 1/3-mile clay oval with the series he was tenth. That was the best run with the group for the 2019 tour champ since coming back to the track, where he suffered an injury that nearly ended his career when his collarbone was shattered in late October of 2022. Dominic Scelzi has had much success at "The Bowl" over the years, with three trips to victory lane, including the most recent running of the Faria Memorial in 2021. Look for the two-time NARC champion from Fresno to be on the charge. Some other contenders making the trip to be on the lookout for include 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Rio Oso rising star Landon Brooks in the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X, Benicia's Billy Aton, Nick Parker of Chico, and Jarrett Soares from Gilroy, Jacksonville, Iowa native Austin McCarl in the famed Country Builders Construction #88, Tipton's Dawson Faria, and more! - Cole Macedo Earns Morrie Williams Tribute Title
A big weekend of racing at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA saw Cole Macedo shine aboard the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 car. Charging from 13th to 3rd in Fridayβs Cotton Classic, Macedo picked up a pair of third place finishes in Saturdayβs Tribute To Morrie Williams Twin 20βs event and earned the overall Championship in part to his efforts.
- SANDERS & KAEDING SPLIT MORRIE WILLIAMS NARC FEATURES AT KINGS; MACEDO NAMED WILLIAMS CHAMPION
(10/5/24 - Ben Deatherage) Hanford, CA ... On a night that paid tribute to the late legendary car owner Morrie Williams, it would be two familiar faces from the Golden State gracing victory lane at Kings Speedway. The Twin 20 feature events were won by NARC 410 Sprint Car Series standouts Justin Sanders and Tim Kaeding. For Kaeding, it was an impressive 73rd all-time NARC King of the West triumph, while for Sanders, it was the 19th of his career and sixth this season. When the dust settled, Cole Macedo emerged as the overall champion of the Morrie Williams Memorial by a single point, posting a pair of third place finishes. "All my guys did their jobs tonight," commented the Morrie Williams champion Macedo. "I feel like we were victims of circumstances in that first main with the lane changing down to the bottom and racing with my hair on fire in the last one and getting as far forward as I could." After a big crash on the original start of the first of two features, Beacon Wealth Strategies dash winner Macedo struck first with the Tarlton & Son #21 Maxim getting ahead of the field and in firm control of the race lead. Unbeknownst to him, Sanders, ARP Quick Qualifier Kaeding, and Dominic Scelzi would slice and dice furiously for the runner-up spot, allowing Macedo to walk away in the Tarlton Motorsports entry. Macedo's advantage of over four seconds negated by a caution on the seventh circuit. On the restart, Sanders pounced his way into second, kept close with the leader, and motored underneath him in the turn three on lap ten. From there, Sanders had to deal with one caution but mastered the final restart to score his second career NARC win at Kings Speedway after starting fourth. "The first couple of laps, I felt okay, and I could see Cole running the top and pulling away," said a focused Sanders, amped and ready to tackle the second 20-lapper. "I knew I had to get by him on the restart," Sanders continued. "I knew it was going to be tough getting around him and I just happen to catch Cole not knowing where he needed to be, and after that, it was just hitting my marks and not losing speed down the straightaways." Two-time NARC titlist Scelzi secured the second spot with a couple of trips remaining in his Whipple Superchargers #41 Maxim to finish second. Macedo settled for third. 2005 NARC champion Sean Becker was fourth in the Bjork Construction #7B Maxim for chased by Landon Brooks in the Lippert Construction #42X. Brooks was subbing in for the injured Justyn Cox in the Bates-Hamilton Racing operation. The brothers Kaeding: Tim and Bud, were sixth and seventh, respectively. Ryan Rocha was an impressive eighth in his NARC feature debut after starting 16th to gain the Williams Roofing Hardcharger award. Seventeenth starter Billy Aton and NARC rookie point leader Caeden Steele rounded the top ten. In the second feature, Dylan Bloomfield jetted ahead of the field in the Starr Property Management #83V Maxim. Bloomfield was chased down by 2019 NARC champion D.J. Netto, and the two battled wheel-to-wheel for several laps before Netto secured the position on the sixth lap. The restart presented a new challenger in the form of Gauge Garcia as the Keller Motorsports-fielded Monarch Ford #2K XXX blitzed ahead of Bloomfield and Netto to snatch the lead in turn two after a brilliant double overtake. However, it would be a short-lived reign as Netto counter-attacked on the bottom in turn three to retain the lead. A new threat emerged shortly after that in the form of 12th starter Tim Kaeding. Piloting the Williams Motorsports-provided EMADCO Disposal #0 Maxim, he obtained third on lap eight, and the runner-up position a lap later. Although it took patience, Kaeding successfully hunted down Netto and the two-time NARC champion became the new race leader on the 15th circuit. A late yellow with four to go bunched the field up one last time, but it proved not to be an obstacle for Kaeding as he motored to his ninth career Kings NARC win since 2000. "D.J. has been one of the fastest cars this summer out here, and I figured when he was out front, he was going to check out," explained Kaeding. "We started hitting the bottom pretty good out of three, and I was making up time as he was running around the top. Somehow, we ended up sticking it, and we got there. We raced him clean and had no issues. This is a testament to my guys: Ashley, Shane, Jason, Josh, everyone that works on this car night in and night out." Hometown racer Netto finished a respectable second in his Netto Ag #88N KPC. Macedo made a valiant charge on the last restart to be on the podium to finish third after starting 15th. Becker was fourth for the second race in a row, with Dylan Bloomfield rounding out the top five. Steele was sixth, followed by Scelzi. Oregon traveler Tanner Holmes nailed down an impressive 21st to eighth run to earn the Williams Roofing Hardcharger honors. Dominic Gorden and Sanders rounded out the top ten. - Justin Sanders makes late move to net Cotton Classic at Kings Speedway
Hanford, CA…Justin Sanders and car owner Dale Miller continued their fantastic season on Friday at Kings Speedway in Hanford, as the Aromas driver captured an entertaining Cotton Classic with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour. It marked the sixth win in eight SCCT starts for Sanders this year and was his initial triumph in the Penny Newman Grain Cotton Classic. He also began the evening by earning the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award. "It feels great to get another win for Dale and Tara Miller here tonight at Kings Speedway," Sanders commented on the victory lane podium. "This track was perfect tonight and that made for some great racing. Luckily, I was able to get by Dominic Gorden there and score the win." Gorden was shot out of a cannon at the beginning of the SCCT feature, as he blasted under Tanner Holmes and Dominic Scelzi to grab the lead by the time one lap had been completed. Sanders moved into second not long after and began to pace Gorden as lapped traffic came into play. A multiple groove surface was given to drivers in the main event and made for outstanding competition all throughout the field. Gorden did a great job out front fending off Sanders, until traffic bunched up the leaders around the halfway point. Fresno's Dominic Scelzi also moved in and joined the party, making it a ferocious three-car battle up front. With 21 laps complete Sanders finally made the move to charge out front, as Gorden and Scelzi then fought for the runner up position. Scelzi had the opening to grab the spot but hopped over the right rear of lapped car Dylan Bloomfield in turn two, which put a tough end to his race. Sanders led the remainder to bring home his 14th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour win. Gorden crossed the stripe in second, followed by Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Cole Macedo, who started from position number 13. Tanner Holmes and DJ Netto completed the top five. Netto put on a tremendous show in the main event, following a trip to the work area during the pace laps, which took away his original starting spot, which was the pole. The Hanford driver came from dead last and ran as high as fourth at one point. Finishing sixth through 10th in the feature were Kaleb Montgomery, Andy Forsberg, Braden Chiaramonte, Brooklyn Holland and Shane Hopkins. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour returns to action this coming Saturday October 12th at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare. The annual Faria Memorial marks the final tune-up prior to Trophy Cup and the penultimate round of the SCCT campaign. - NARC NEWSLINE - OCTOBER 1, 2024
NARC NEWSLINE - OCTOBER 1, 2024, By Jim Allen ... Imagine if the NFL played their first 12 games of the season and then took off two months before another game was played? Or just when the baseball pennant races heated up in July, the MLB didn't play another game until October? Well, welcome to the NARC 410 Sprint Car season! The last time we played in the dirt was July 27th at Santa Maria Speedway, a race won by Chase Johnson and the top three in the NARC championship standings somehow managed to crash out or break in three separate incidents. Unpredictable as a WWE match. At that point on the calendar, 18 races were in the books and the excitement and momentum was at a fevered pitch. We had a tight points chase, 12 different winners, four rookie drivers in the top 15, and open wheel competition that has been off the charts. In fact, we still have those things, we just had to fast forward 70-days for the High Limit and World of Outlaws shows to come through. Along those lines, California continues to be a powerhouse and hotbed of creating top national sprint car talent. Of the 15 combined High Limit and Outlaw shows on the West Coast, eight were claimed by California drivers (Michael Kofoid - 3, Carson Macedo - 2, Rico Abreu - 2, Corey Day - 1). Fresno car owner Dennis Roth scored five wins between the two series with Kofoid and Aussie James McFadden. Honorable west coast mention goes to Trey Starks, who scored not one, but two HL feature victories (Grays Harbor & Skagit) helping to prove my point that he is one of the most underrated drivers in the country. Justin Sanders, Shane Golobic, Cole Macedo, and DJ Netto fared the best among the NARC locals with 17 top five finishes combined. Sanders and Golobic both scored a pair of runner-up finishes. Tim Kaeding even nailed down an impressive runner-up finish at Merced Speedway. CHASE JOHNSON: While all that was going on, we have been talking and thinking and praying about Chase Johnson a lot lately. Who would have thought his scenario was even possible? Chase's crash at the High Limit Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway didn't appear to be any worse than others we have witnessed, but the physical damage was painful to read. Chase broke his back in several spots which required a nine-hour surgery. Throw in additional setbacks like a rough bout of pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and a finicky feeding tube and you have a life-changing scenario. The 28-year-old driver, who always possesses a positive outlook and a million-dollar smile, is a fighter and one of the toughest guys we know. After five long weeks in the ICU at UC Davis in Sacramento, Chase had stabilized enough to be airlifted to the Shepard Center in Georgia. It is a highly-renown facility that specializes in spinal cord rehabilitation injuries. We will continue to monitor social media posts from wife Haley Johnson and the Johnson family during this process. On another note: The good news is Chase has medical insurance. The bad news is he has medical insurance. They say that the best insurance to have .., is insurance you never have to use because it seldom pays or covers the enormity of the expenses or allows coverage into premium world-class rehabilitation facilities. However, due to the amazing outpouring of support by fans, friends, and family of Chase, the Shepard Center became a reality and the best option for recovery. It's a super expensive ordeal and he will be there for at least 11 weeks. Please keep those positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers coming for the entire Johnson family, but also continue with the helmet passes, track barbecues, and t-shirt and decal sales. Or contribute to their house-payment program or make donations to the NARC Benevolent Fund and/or the GoFundMe account. His recovery requires a long-term plan of attack. He needs ongoing treatment so that one day soon, he can skip out of that facility under his own power. We know Chase is positive, strong-willed and is willing to fight with every inch of his soul. Please help him in the process. By the way, you can donate to Chase's GoFundMe account at … https://gofund.me/7ddbc02c Want to send Chase a get-well card? Here's the address: Johnny Franklin's Muffler ATTN: Chase Johnson 128 Bellam Blvd San Rafael, CA 94901 United States In hindsight, it's been a rough year on the NARC driver's roster. It closely resembles a weekly NFL injury report. Let's not forget that Ryan Robinson was forced to retire after his violent crash during the Mini Gold Cup back in March. In the good news department, Angelique Bell is almost fully recovered from her fiery June 12th crash at Southern Oregon Speedway. The burns have healed, but she still needs an occasional steroid shot in her vocal cords to get her voice back to 100%. She has managed to keep her sense of humor and upbeat attitude throughout the process. By the way, and this is a big "BY THE WAY," Angelique will be making her second season debut at Hanford on October 5th in a new family-owned race car. We plan to work in an opening ceremony interview with her. Then there was two-time NARC champion Dominic Scelzi, who was hearing church bells ringing in his head after his Super Dirt Cup crash at Skagit. Not to mention rib injuries of the type you would normally get in a fight with a Mike Tyson or Jake Paul. That took almost two months to recover from, but he is back to consuming tacos at his usual pace and frequency, so he is back to normal. Justyn Cox, who is currently third in NARC driver points, is expected to be out for the rest of the season in the Bates-Hamilton 42X with a back injury. He was hurt at a High Limit race, this one at the Douglas County Dirtrack in August. He is trying to nurse a broken and compressed T3 vertebra back into shape. Unfortunately, he will drop completely out of the top ten in points during the healing process. It's been one of those years. CALISTOGA SPEEDWAY: Yes, it's hard to believe, but movement is finally being seen, or at least scheduled, at the Napa County Fairgrounds. There is a Fairgrounds Community Clean Up Day scheduled for October 19th. Unfortunately, that is Trophy Cup weekend so racer participation may be limited. The good news is that there is a buzz at the fairgrounds with the hiring of Shelly Wright as the Fair Revitalization Director. She is a former fair manager at Lakeport and is a fan of motorsports, which is a huge plus for reopening the historic ½ mile oval. Tommy Hunt is excited at the possibilities and feels that the Louie Vermeil Classic should become a reality in 2025. NARC NOTES: Here is a strange fact for you. The October 5th race at Hanford will be the first visit by the NARC sprint cars this season. The first two shows, the Dave Helm Memorial and Peter Murphy Classic rained out. … Although we are not expecting to see Willie Croft at any of our final five NARC events, he will be at the Trophy Cup. - Cotton Classic on deck for Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Kings Speedway Friday
Hanford, CA…As the season begins to wind down the Sprint Car Challenge Tour is poised to head for the Kings Speedway in Hanford this Friday October 4th. The 39th annual "Cotton Classic" presented by Penny Newman Grain is the third to last race of the campaign for the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour. This Friday also begins a busy and much-anticipated month of October for Sprint Car racing in the Golden State. The Cotton Classic has been one of the long-standing and prestigious showcases in the Central Valley over the years. Apart from 2014, it has been held at the Kings County Fairgrounds venue every season since the mid-1980's. This weekend's huge double header in Hanford also includes the "Morrie Williams Memorial" on Saturday night showcasing the NARC 410 Sprint Cars. Fresh off his initial Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory of the season, Auburn's Andy Forsberg goes into Hanford holding a large 110-point lead in the standings. The driver of the Pacific Highway Rentals No. 92 is looking to claim the Russell Motorsports Double Down Bonus after locking up the Placerville Speedway title last month. If he brings home the SCCT title, it will mark championship 28 for Mr. Excitement and he would walk away with $20,000 for winning both. El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte will be gunning for a strong run at Kings Speedway on Friday aboard the Tiner-Hirst Ent. No. 94TH mount. The pilot of the Vertullo Racing No. 83v hopes to park it on Friday at the 39th annual Cotton Classic presented by Penny Newman Grain. Placerville's Shane Hopkins has put together the finest season of his Sprint Car career and is coming off a run from 19th to 5th at Petaluma, where he earned the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award. Hopkins has driven the High Sierra Industries No. 21 to six top five finishes in Sprint Car Challenge Tour competition. Rounding out the top 10 in points with three races remaining are Roseville's Colby Copeland, Livermore's Travis Labat, Hanford's Michael Faccinto, Yuba City's Seth Standley, Arizona racer Corbin Rueschenberg and Roseville's Sean Becker. - NARC SPRINT CARS ARE BACK IN ACTION SATURDAY AT THE MORRIE WILLIAMS MEMORIAL IN HANFORD
(9/30/24 - Ben Deatherage) Hanford, California ... After a long summer break, the 900+ horsepower fire-breathing monster machines of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are set to return to battle on Saturday, October 5th, for the Morrie Williams Memorial. For fans from all over the Golden State craving heart-stopping and ground-pounding action at Kings Speedway, you don't want to miss this one, as there will be not one but two 20-lap features on the card. The Morrie Williams Memorial, a unique event run in honor of iconic California car owner Morrie Williams, features a format that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Established in 2020, the event runs twin main events, with an overall champion crowned at night's end. The first feature lineup is based on qualifying and heat race finishes. In contrast, the second main event is a complete inversion of the finishing order of the finish from the initial one. So, a driver that finished towards the back of the opening main could win the concluding feature. This twist adds an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the event. Past overall champions include Justin Sanders (2021 & 2023), Tim Kaeding (2020), and Corey Day (2022). "We're proud to be able to continue this twin feature event with the chance of two different winners on the same night," commented Ashley Smith, Morrie Williams' son-in-law and crew chief of the Williams Motorsports #0. "Morrie always enjoyed watching cars coming from the back and powering through for a win. This is a good way of honoring the legacy he put out there during his tenure as a Sprint Car owner over multiple decades." Contributing sponsors for the event include EMADCO Disposal, Roth Motorsports, Southern Pacific Farms, Bandey & Associates, Alviso Rock, and Hoosier Racing Tires. What makes these folks unique is that they have helped since the beginning of the event. The companion division for the evening will be the Southern California Dwarf Car Association. Who To Watch Justin Sanders will look to create some breathing room in the super tight championship for the King of the West title. The Aromas pilot leads both the point standings and the current win list with five victories. The driver of the Mittry Motorsports #2X entry is the defending event champion and earned his lone NARC win at Kings last year. Cole Macedo returns to his stomping grounds as the Lemoore native will look to add another NARC trophy to the cabinet for Tarlton Motorsports. Already a winner three times this season, there's no doubt the battle for the championship will be exciting as he currently trails by only three points after 18 NARC events. In the last race Macedo ran with NARC at Kings, he was second in the final feature of the Morrie. 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding will look to build off a pair of fourth-place finishes. No doubt it would be a sentimental win for the Campbell chauffeur as he raced for Morrie Williams for several seasons, as noted above. Since 2000, he has only won once at Kings with NARC, and that was in 2012. Justyn Cox of Roseville Easton teenager Caeden Steele has been close to opening his winning account with NARC. What better place to do it than on your "home turf"? Steele did compete at last year's Morrie Williams event and will look to improve off a Kings Speedway career-best twelfth. He still leads the charge in the Rookie of the Year Award race. Aboard the Dave and Debbie Vertullo #83V-fielded entry Bloomfield is also hunting for his first NARC win. The young man from Oakley has shown some speed over the last couple of seasons at the Hanford 3/8-mile oval and has a pair of Top 10 finishes at the facility, including a career-best sixth the previous year. Two-time NARC title winner Dominic Scelzi has won two Morrie Williams features over 2021 and 2020, respectively, but has yet to win the overall title. The Fresno phenom has five career NARC wins at Kings and the win in 2020 was aboard a Williams Motorsports car. A gaggle of other Golden State gassers will look to claim NARC glory on Saturday night. 2019 NARC champion D.J. Netto will no doubt be a favorite as the Hanford hot shoe won the second leg of the Morrie in 2023. Tim Kaeding would love to win his second career Morrie Williams championship. The San Jose driver and two-time NARC champion won the inaugural edition in 2020 aboard the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X and will be behind the wheel of the Williams Motorsports #0 in this year's edition. Another notable is Fremont's Shane Golobic in the Matt Wood Racing #17W, who you can never count out of winning a marquee event. Two other young guns from the Central Valley that are also in the hunt for Rookie of the Year honors are Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, in the Keller Motorsports #2K, and Dominic Gorden from Clovis. Also expected to compete will be Billy Aton of Benicia, Chico traveler Nick Parker, Gilroy's Jarrett Soares, Sacramento's Kalib Henry, Landon Brooks of Yuba City, Dawson Faria from nearby Tipton, Kaleb Montgomery making the journey from Templeton, and more! Fan & Competitor Info Kings Speedway is located at the Kings Fairgrounds at 801 S 10th Avenue in Hanford, CA. - Andy Forsberg strikes for SCCT Adobe Cup glory at Petaluma Speedway
Petaluma, CA…Auburn's Andy Forsberg has always been fond of competing at the sticky and hooked up Petaluma Speedway. On Saturday night the SCCT point leader put together a dominating performance in the feature, racking up $5,500 by way of winning the 13th annual Adobe Cup. The now 27-time Sprint Car champion piloted the Pacific Highway Rentals/ Pit Stop USA No. 92 to his 5th career Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory, placing him into a tie with Colby Copeland for fourth all-time. "That track was certainly right up my alley in the main event," Forsberg said on the front stretch. "I know that some of the newer generation of drivers don't particularly enjoy a track like that, but it brought back a lot of memories of the old days. I took an extra lap at the end just to soak it all in. My guys gave me an amazing car there, so I really have to thank them and all the fans for coming out to support the Adobe Cup." Ocean Speedway champion Caleb Debem jumped out front at the waving of the green flag in the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour finale. Debem set the pace up front until Forsberg blasted by for the lead on lap four, which he would never relinquish. Following that Forsberg had his way with things and had to survive an excessive amount of restarts, but each time hit his marks to perfection. The recently crowned Placerville Speedway champ rocketed away to bring home the $5,000 grand prize, along with the $500 Shop Kyle Larson Bonus as a full-time car winning the feature. Dunnigan youngster Luke Hayes put together the finest night of his Sprint Car Challenge Tour career, winning the High Sierra Dash and scoring a runner up finish in the main event. Roseville's Sean Becker did a fantastic job in the 35-lapper to carve his way from 16th to third, rounding out the podium. It marked his fourth top-five effort of the year with SCCT. Jodie Robinson looked impressive for the second week in a row and brought home a fourth-place result at the checkered flag. The Roseville driver had battled her way to second at one point on a restart, only to have a slowdown negate the beautiful move. Placerville's Shane Hopkins continued his strong 2024 campaign by earning the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award with an exquisite run from 19th to fifth. The 30-year-old set fast time to begin the night, however, a seventh-place finish in his heat race set him farther back to start the main. Completing the top-10 in the Adobe Cup finale were John Clark, Kurt Nelson, Dustin Freitas, Bradley Terrell and Brad Bumgarner. Nelson was another driver who had a solid night, but experienced tough luck in the main event. The past Ocean titlist had raced his way into second on lap 23, only to have a lapped car spin in front of him with three circuits remaining. Nelson had nowhere to go and brought out a caution but was able to salvage a seventh-place effort at the end. The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour heads next for Hanford's Kings Speedway on Friday October 4th. The event marks the 39th running of the Cotton Classic. - SCCT season resumes with 13th annual Adobe Cup in Petaluma Saturday
Petaluma, CA…For the third consecutive season the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is primed to sanction the $5,000-to-win "Adobe Cup" at Petaluma Speedway this Saturday September 21st. The evening of family fun at the 13th annual Adobe Cup marks the final season appearance for SCCT at Sonoma County's longest running entertainment venue. Following this Saturday's outing the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour will have just three events remaining in 2024. Adding to the excitement at the event will be the annual Bob McCoy Super Stock Memorial. The familiar Petaluma 3/8-mile oval routinely produces thrilling wheel-to-wheel racing, as lapped traffic can create some of the most frenetic competition of any venue on tour. Please note the facility features an earlier start time, with the Pit Meeting at 4pm and cars on track at 4:30. "We look forward to having the Sprint Car Challenge Tour as part of the 13th annual Adobe Cup this weekend," said Petaluma Promoter Rick Faeth. "Petaluma Speedway doesn't hold as many Winged Sprint Car shows nowadays, but the fans have certainly flocked to the track when we have. The Bob McCoy Memorial has also become a big stock car race, so we think this will be a superb two division program for everyone to attend." This Saturday's Adobe Cup marks the first event for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour since finishing up Speedweek in July. Fresh off wrapping up the Placerville Speedway title last week, Andy Forsberg heads into Petaluma Speedway holding a 74-point lead in the SCCT standings. The Auburn driver is searching to bring home the Russell Motorsports Inc. Double Down Bonus if he can also secure the tour championship. Forsberg, who captured SCCT Speedweek, will be in search of his first Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory of the season to try and fend off young Braden Chiaramonte for the title. The El Cajon driver had spent time atop the standings, until encountering issues during SCCT Speedweek. Chiaramonte claimed a SCCT triumph at Antioch in June and will look to grab another at the Adobe Cup. Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Roseville's Colby Copeland and Placerville's Shane Hopkins round out the top five in points going into the Adobe Cup. Hopkins has been one of the more consistent drivers throughout California when it comes to Winged 360 racing this year. More drivers looking to take on the famed Petaluma gumbo will include Livermore's Travis Labat, Roseville's Sean Becker and Jodie Robinson, Cotati's Jake Haulot, Sebastopol's Bradley Terrell, Windsor's John Clarke, Chico's Brad Bumgarner, Dunnigan's Luke Hayes and others. Tickets and Details: Adult tickets at Petaluma Speedway this Saturday September 21st cost $25 while seniors, juniors and military with ID are $22. Seating is general admission. The pit gate will open at noon, with the front grandstand gate opening at 4pm. The pit meeting will be held at 4pm with cars on track at 4:30. Hot laps, Sierra Foothills Wine Services qualifying, and racing will follow. The event will follow the standard SCCT muffler rule, which is either the Large Flowmaster or Large Spintech Muffler as described in the rulebook. The Petaluma Speedway is located in the southern part of the wine country at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds just off Highway 101 in Petaluma, California.
