- Dominic Scelzi wins SCCT Speedweek finale/ Max Mittry edges Kinzer Cox for title
Elma, Washington…Fresno's Dominic Scelzi charged from the ninth starting spot to claim victory during the SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek finale on Sunday night at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. When all was said and done after eight races in 10 days, Redding's Max Mittry topped Oregon racer Kinzer Cox by just two points to win the $4,000 Speedweek championship. Mittry put together a consistent week of racing with top 10 finishes in all but two events, earning the biggest moment of his Sprint Car career. "This is really a special feeling to win the SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek title," Mittry commented after the race. "It was a lot of fun racing with Kinzer Cox all week and for it to come down to just a couple points was pretty exciting. I want to thank everybody that helps on this car." The 30-lap Speedweek finale began with Mittry jumping out front at the waving of the green flag. Fans were treated to some intriguing high-speed action at the Grays Harbor Raceway on this night. El Paso, Texas driver Aydan Saunders paced Mittry over the early stages before closing in, making it a battle for the top spot. Both drivers pulled away from the field and raced closely together for numerous laps, before Saunders took command on lap 20. Dominic Scelzi was also on the move however and showed his muscle taking over third on lap 15. The top three then bunched up in thrilling fashion on lap 20 and saw Scelzi scoot to second with 21 circuits complete. One lap later Scelzi rocketed to the lead and pulled away from the pack to record his 12th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory. It marked his second triumph of SCCT Speedweek, after also winning on Tuesday at Coos Bay Speedway. The battle for the Speedweek title came right down to the closing laps with Mittry finishing second and Cox coming home in third during the main event. Both drivers must be commended for putting on a fantastic championship fight. The two came into the final Shop Kyle Larson A-main tied for the point lead and both did an exceptional job in the 30-lapper. Skagit 360 Nationals winner Trey Starks earned the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award by driving his way from 14th to fourth with Saunders completing the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Jesse Schlotfeldt, Seth Standley, Tyler Thompson, Austin Wood and Kelly Miller. A total of 22 cars were on hand to finish off SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek. Destry Miller claimed his first career SCCT Fast Time Award presented by Sierra Foothills Wine Services. The 16-year-old toured his home track in 13.308 seconds. - Dominic Scelzi claims SCCT Speedweek Round 4 at Coos Bay Speedway
Coos Bay, Oregon…Fresno's Dominic Scelzi made the move past Monday winner Jesse Schlotfeldt with seven laps remaining to snag his 11th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph on Tuesday at Coos Bay Speedway. The driver of the Scelzi Ent./ Red Rose Transportation No. 41 mount had charged from 13th to third during the previous night's feature in Roseburg. His win on Round 4 of SCCT WST Speedweek marked a career first at Coos Bay Speedway. "Jesse Schlotfeldt set a really fast pace early in the main event," Scelzi said. "On that last restart I stayed within striking distance and just tried to put my car in the right places. It got tricky in traffic a few times, but fortunately we were able to get by and score the win. I need to thank my entire team and my whole family for their support." High Sierra Industries Dash winner Schlotfeldt jumped out to the lead at the waving of the green flag in the 35-lap Shop Kyle Larson main event. Just like the previous night he moved through traffic like a magician, placing several cars between himself and the rest of the field. The red lights then flashed on for 10th running Austin Wood on lap eight, who got upside down in the first corner. He emerged okay and returned to the race after a visit to the work area. When going back green, Scelzi didn't let the leader get away and when lapped traffic came into play again, business began to pick up. Schlotfeldt and Scelzi proceeded to put on a show for the fans, weaving in and out of the slower cars. Both drivers searched around throughout contest and with 28 laps complete it was Scelzi who blasted to the inside to take over the point. Schlotfeldt remained composed though and took a couple more looks back at the leader, but Scelzi was too strong and drove away to accept the checkered flag. Schlotfeldt capped another stout night in second, while El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte closed in on him during the final lap, eventually crossing the line in third. By way of his third-place finish, Chiaramonte is the new point leader of SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek going into tomorrow. Bozeman, Montana's Cole Schroeder put together a strong outing to come home fourth, with Yuba City's Seth Standley rounding out the top five. It was a nice rebound at the track for Standley, who had a great run going last year, only to suffer bad luck racing through traffic. Completing the top 10 were Bubba Decaires, Kelly Miller, Kai Dixon, Levi Klatt and Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award winner Jett Barnes. A total of 30 cars competed at Coos Bay Speedway on Tuesday. Chiaramonte began the evening by earning the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time with a lap of 12.043. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek continues Wednesday night at the Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Oregon. - Dominic Scelzi claims SCCT Speedweek Round 4 at Coos Bay Speedway
Fresno's Dominic Scelzi made the move past Monday winner Jesse Schlotfeldt with seven laps remaining to snag his 11th career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour triumph on Tuesday at Coos Bay Speedway.
- Jesse Schlotfeldt dominates Speedweek Round 3 at The Douglas County Dirt Track
Roseburg, Oregon…Arlington, Washington's Jesse Schlotfeldt turned in a dominating performance on night three of SCCT WST Speedweek at The Douglas County Dirt Track, grabbing his first career Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour victory. The driver of the Grinders Automotive & Marine/ Shark Racing Engines No. 21s started from the outside of the front row and never looked back in the 35-lap Shop Kyle Larson main event. "That main event could not have gone better for us," Schlotfeldt commented after the race. "This car was phenomenal, and I could put it anywhere on the track. I tried to be as wise as possible through traffic and luckily, we got through it pretty well. I want to thank everybody that supports us and makes this possible." The initial start saw a red flag occur for Kelly Miller, who flipped onto his side in between turns one and two. He emerged okay but was done for the night. On the next attempt Schlotfeldt shot out front and quickly distanced himself from the rest of the pack. Schlotfeldt placed five lapped cars between himself and the rest of the field multiple times during the contest. He sat out front by a wide margin for much of it and although Burlington, Washington's Levi Hillier did cut the gap down, there was nothing stopping Schlotfeldt on this night. He went on to take the checkered flag for his sixth overall win of the season and initial SCCT score. Hillier looked impressive in the feature as well, making multiple strong moves to record a runner up finish in his Sprint Car Challenge Tour debut. Fresno's Dominic Scelzi rebounded nicely in the feature, carving his way from 13th to third by the finish. The two-time NARC champ was fun to watch moving through the pack. Redding's Max Mittry put together a solid night, winning the High Sierra Industries Dash, before running second for more than half the feature. He eventually crossed the stripe in fourth, followed by Cottage Grove, Oregon's Kinzer Cox. Completing the top 10 were Modesto's Tony Gomes, El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte, Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award winner Cole Schroeder from Bozeman, Montana who drove from 20th to eighth, Yuba City's Seth Standley and 19th starter Tyler Thompson's from Harrisburg, Oregon. A total of 29 cars competed on round three of Speedweek. Jesse Schlotfeldt began the evening by earning the Sierra Foothills Wine Services Fast Time Award with a lap of 12.602, which was good enough to set a new all-time 360 track record at The Douglas County Dirt Track. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek continues Tuesday night at the Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, Oregon. - SCCT ready to tackle Western Sprint Tour Speedweek on July 18th-27th
Chico, CA…For the second consecutive season the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is primed for Western Sprint Tour Speedweek, which showcases eight nights of racing at seven different venues from California to Washington. Everything kicks off in a big way at Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday July 18th with the 12th annual "Tyler Wolf Memorial" race. It will be a definite highlight of Speedweek, as we honor the late racer. It also doubles as Fan Appreciation Night, with grandstand tickets costing just $5. Kids 12 and under will be free. When 20-year-old Tyler Wolf lost his life at Calistoga Speedway in 2012, it was one of the darkest days in recent memory for the California racing scene. The Redding native had captured the Silver Dollar Speedway track title one year prior and was well liked throughout the pit area. The event in his memory continues to be one of the special shows each season at Silver Dollar Speedway and is the only SCCT visit of 2025. One night later Speedweek rolls on with the $5,000-to-win/ $500-to-start "Gold Pan Rampage" at Placerville Speedway on Saturday July 19th. It marks the final Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour appearance of the season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds quarter mile. Monday July 21st begins a trio of races in Oregon all starting at the Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg. Tuesday July 22nd then brings the Sprint Car Challenge Tour to Coos Bay Speedway, followed by Cottage Grove Speedway on Wednesday July 23rd. A travel day with a Fan Fest/ Kick-Off Party on Thursday sets up the SCCT debut at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington for the two-night "Fred Brownfield 360 Nationals" presented by Bob's Burgers & Brew, highlighted by a $26,000-to-win/ $1,000-to-start main event on Saturday July 26th. With a unique format on tap at Skagit Speedway, both nights will feature show up points only in the season-long championship race. SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek all comes to a climax on Sunday July 27th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington. The "Hall of Fame 360 Battle Royale" marks the first series appearance at the track. The overall SCCT Western Sprint Tour Speedweek champion will take home $4,000 as part of an $8,000 total point fund. The runner up nets $2,500 while third place will claim $1,500. Each Shop Kyle Larson main event during Speedweek will hand out a minimum of $3,000-to-win/ $400-to-start the 24-car field. After winning the most recent event, 18-year-old Chance Grasty sits atop the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour standings heading into Speedweek. Sacramento's Austin Wood, Montana driver Cole Schroeder, Yuba City's Seth Standley and Marysville's Dawson Hammes complete the top five. Additional competitors looking to be a common sight during Speedweek will include reigning Garth Moore Insurance Rookie of the Year Braden Chiaramonte from El Cajon, two-time Skagit 360 Nationals winner Seth Bergman of Snohomish, Washington, Marysville's Carson Hammes, Elk Grove's Bubba Decaires, Modesto's Tony Gomes, Arlington, Washington's Jesse Schlotfeldt, Redding's Max Mittry, Cotati's Jake Haulot, Brentwood's Adriana Demartini, Visalia's Jett Barnes, Santa Rosa's Tyler Cato and others. - Petaluma Speedway welcomes SCCT for Wings Over Wine Country this Saturday
Petaluma, CA…The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour campaign rolls on with its first appearance of the season at the cool confines of Petaluma Speedway this Saturday June 14th. The show dubbed as "Wings Over Wine Country" marks the fifth event for the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour this year. It's the first of two season stops at Petaluma Speedway, with a return visit occurring for the annual Adobe Cup in September. Please note the facility features an earlier start time, with the Pit Meeting at 3:45pm and cars on track at 4pm. "We look forward to having the Sprint Car Challenge Tour here at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday," commented track Promoter Rick Faeth. "It will be our first traveling Winged Sprint Car show of the season, and I know our fans are hungry for it. Hopefully everyone can come out and join us for the night." "We've been running well, which certainly gives me confidence going into the night. Petaluma only holds Winged Sprint Car races on a limited basis nowadays so that always makes it special to get down there."
