- JAMES McFADDEN WINS NARC TIMBER CUP THRILLER AT GRAYS HARBOR
(6/15/25 - Andrew Kunas) Elma, WA ... It was not easy for James McFadden, but he somehow found victory lane again as he made a spectacular last lap pass around Trey Starks to snag the NARC Timber Cup victory at Grays Harbor Raceway in Sunday's Fastest Five Days in Motorsports 25-lap finale, giving him an astounding four wins in five nights. McFadden, from the pole position, took the lead on the initial start over fellow front row starter Jesse Schlotfeldt and led the first nine laps uncontested before the fifth starting Starks, a former Timber Cup winner, first challenged him for the lead. Lap 10 saw Starks throw a slider in Turns 3 and 4 and get in front of McFadden, only for McFadden to turn it back down a get a run off the hill to get back by to maintain the lead. Starks challenged again on the following lap but could not get by McFadden. Following a fuel stop with 11 laps completed, Starks saw an opening and pounced on the restart, making another move on the east end of the race track, throwing it in and squeezing between McFadden and the infield entering Turn 3, and this time made the move stick to lead Lap 12. Starks then pulled away for a time and led the next several laps as McFadden briefly had to fend off last year's Timber Cup winner Dominic Scelzi. While McFadden held off Scelzi, Starks then started to struggle getting a slower car in traffic, and in the final lap lost momentum exiting Turn 2. McFadden meanwhile got a big run around the top of the racetrack and got one last shot at Starks. With his own momentum, McFadden threw a big slide job going into Turn 3 and made it stick, getting in front of Starks. Starks tried to turn it back down the hill and get a run off of Turn 4 but couldn't get enough speed to get McFadden back at the checkered flag. "Trey obviously is one of the best around here. He proved that when High Limit came here last year. And this was our first time (as a team) on a real, real slick track, so to be close to him was read good. My guys really didn't know where to tell me to go on that red (during the fuel stop)," McFadden said. "I was hoping those lappers would kinda slow the pace down enough, and that's what happened." The thrilling victory capped off an incredible week for McFadden aboard the American Rock & Rent-sponsored Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim. McFadden won the first two Fastest Five Days races at Southern Oregon Speedway and Douglas County Dirt Track, took a sixth-place finish at Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday, and then picked up Saturday's feature at Willamette Speedway before Sunday's thriller at Grays Harbor. The four wins resulted in McFadden being crowned the champion of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. "It's been a real fun week. I can't thank Tom and Tommy Tarlton and their whole family enough," McFadden continued. "It's been so much fun." While disappointed with losing the win at the end, Starks still finished second aboard the Starks Racing No. 55 Fisher-powered J&J in his first appearance with NARC this season. Scelzi finished third aboard the Red Rose Transportation-sponsored Gary Scelzi Motorsports No. 41 Kistler-powered Maxim, getting his fourth podium finish of the week. Coming from 10th, Scelzi earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod, moving up seven positions. Tyler Thompson made a late pass to finish fourth aboard the HAM Construction-sponsored Main Motorsports No. 35km Kistler-powered Maxim, turning in one of his best finishes of the season. Jesse Schlotfeldt, two nights after scoring his first NARC win, finished fifth aboard the Grinder's Automotive & Marine-sponsored JRS Motorsports No. 21s Shark-powered Triple X. D.J. Netto, Tanner Holmes, Sean Becker, Justin Sanders, and Caeden Steele rounded out the Top 10. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by McFadden, Schlotfeldt and Sanders. McFadden won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash to secure the pole position for the feature. Trey Starks paced the 22-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 12.877 seconds around the 3/8-mile, high-banked clay oval. - McFADDEN IS RED HOT; PICKS OFF ANOTHER NARC VICTORY AT WILLAMETTE
(6/14/25 - Andrew Kunas) Lebanon, OR ... James McFadden continued his dominance of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports on Saturday night when he captured his third NARC 410 sprint car main event in four days at Willamette Speedway. Starting alongside pole-sitter Robbie Price, the Australian star took the lead on the start and immediately rocketed off to large advantage, and in just four laps was in heavy traffic during a 25-lap feature that was caution free. At times, McFadden would easily slice and dice his way by slower cars while Dominic Scelzi, who had worked his way by Price for second, tried to work his way up. At times though, traffic got difficult to navigate for McFadden, and on Lap 16, Scelzi suddenly had a chance to pounce. McFadden slid up high coming through Turns 1 and 2 passing cars and losing speed, and Scelzi briefly scooted by on the bottom. McFadden turned his car back down the hill, almost contacting Scelzi but getting a run back inside him and retaking the lead down the back stretch. After the close call with Scelzi, McFadden found another gear it seemed like and drove away in the closing laps, taking the win aboard the American Rock & Rent-sponsored Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim. Like he did Wednesday at Southern Oregon Speedway and Thursday at Douglas County Dirt Track, McFadden celebrated in front of the fans with his patented "Shoey," a drink of beer from a shoe atop his car. "Honestly, that was the hardest race I've ever raced through with lapped traffic. They had no idea where they were going, I had no idea where they were going, and that made me had no idea where I was going," McFadden jokingly said about battling the traffic in a race that lasted only six and a half minutes. "It was like swatting flies out there in Australia for a while. It's really hard to control a race like that. You have to push hard, but if you push too hard you can run in the back of guys and I almost did that a couple of times. Dominic showed a nose, so I had to step a gear up." McFadden also praised the track conditions after an extensive rework of the clay oval after heat races. "That track turned out really cool, turned out really fun. Thanks to all the fans for sticking around while they (worked) to get us a really good track." McFadden again praised his crew, including Tom and Tommy Tarlton. McFadden had never driven the Tarlton Motorsports car before Wednesday. Three wins and a sixth have their finishes in four races this week. Scelzi finished second aboard the Red Rose Transportation-sponsored Scelzi Enterprises No. 41 Kistler-powered Maxim. It was Scelzi's third podium finish of the week, and he has finished in the Top 5 in all four races so far in the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. After losing the runner-up spot to Scelzi early in the race, Robbie Price ran third for the rest of the race and finished there aboard the Malahat Auto Recycling-sponsored Rob & Lee Leighton No. 21p Shark-powered Maxim, this coming a year after Price won his first NARC race at Willamette. Max Mittry had one of his best finishes of the season, taking forth aboard the Shasta Realty Group-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2xm Shark-powered KPC. Bud Kaeding turned in a fifth-place finish aboard the Alviso Rock-sponsored BK Motorsports No. 29 Shaver-powered Maxim. Justin Sanders, who had podium finishes each of the first three nights in Oregon, finished sixth. Tyler Thompson, Tanner Holmes, Joel Meyers Jr and Caeden Steele rounded out the Top 10. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Scelzi, Sanders and Thompson. Price won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash to secure the pole position for the main event. McFadden paced the 24-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 11.907 seconds around the 1/3-mile clay oval. - JESSE SCHLOTFELDT BAGS FIRST NARC WIN AT COTTAGE GROVE
Jesse Schlotfeldt scored the biggest win of his career when he earned his first career NARC 410 sprint car main event victory, taking the checkered flag in Friday's Fastest Five Days in Motorsports checkered flag at Cottage Grove Speedway. It did not come easy for Schlotfeldt, who had to fight his way through traffic throughout the 30-lap event. Starting alongside pole sitter Tanner Holmes, Schlotfeldt got the better start on the green flag and immediately took the lead. He put distance between himself and Holmes in the opening laps but soon found himself in traffic that was at times heavy and also holding him up. As the laps ticked away, Holmes on numerous instances closed in as Schlotfeldt struggled at times to pass slower cars but couldn't make anything happen at first. As they completed the 24th lap at the line, Holmes had a run off of Turn 4 and Schlotfeldt slapped the wall as they approached Turn 1. Holmes threw it down low and moved up to briefly take the top spot, but Schlotfeldt had gathered himself back up and immediately turned his car back down off of Turn 2 as Holmes drifted up, retaking the lead down the back stretch. Holmes then slapped the front stretch wall himself on the next lap, and Schlotfeldt remained up front. Thanks to a late caution, Schlotfeldt had a clear track in front of him for a few more laps, and only had one slow car trying clear on the next to last lap on his way to his first NARC win aboard the Grinder's Automotive & Marine-sponsored JRS Motorsports No. 21s Shark-powered Triple X. "It feels good to finally click off the first win in the NARC series, and first win at (Cottage Grove) too. I've had a lot of bad luck here, wrecking some cars here. I'm glad I couldn't (finally) put it up front for my boys," said Schlotfeldt, who was happy to get the NARC victory but also to shake off his Cottage Grove jinx. He praised his crew for his car's performance as well. "The car was on rails. I smoked the wall a couple of times, and I was just holding on for dear life there at the end. I can't thank my guys enough." After hitting the wall himself, Holmes lost two positions immediately after but benefited from the timely caution flag for a stopped car that reverted the field to 25 laps completed, putting Holmes back in front of Dominic Gorden and Justin Sanders who both had passed him. Despite concern for his right rear tire after the wall contact, Holmes continued to run second and finished there aboard the Legacy Builder Supply-sponsored Holmes Racing No. 18t Rider-powered Triple X. Sanders made a late pass around Gorden to finish third, giving him podium finishes in all three races this week aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. Those three podium finishes follow his win last Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway and continued his hot streak and rise back towards the top of the NARC point standings. Friends with Schlotfeldt, Sanders was one of the first to congratulate him on his first win. Gorden finished fourth aboard the Gary Silva Ranches sponsored Fortitude Driver Development No. 10 Rider-powered Maxim. Dominic Scelzi, who had podium finishes the first two nights this week, finished fifth in the Red Rose Transportation-sponsored Scelzi Enterprises No. 41 Kistler-powered Maxim. Australian star James McFadden, won the first two races of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, Wednesday at Southern Oregon Speedway and Thursday at Douglas County Dirt Track, couldn't make it a hat trick Friday, but still earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger Award with his run from 13th to finish sixth. Landon Brooks, Sean Becker, D.J. Netto and Caeden Steele rounded out the Top 10. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Scelzi, Gorden and Robbie Price. Holmes then won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash to secure the pole position for the main event. Holmes paced the 23-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 10.550 seconds around the ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval. - JAMES McFADDEN GOES BACK-TO-BACK; TAKES NARC'S FASTEST FIVE DAYS FEATURE AT DOUGLAS COUNTY
(6/12/25 - Andrew Kunas) Roseburg, OR ... James McFadden and the Tarlton Motorsports team may have just become one of the scariest combinations on the west coast, as McFadden came back from a false start penalty and worked his way towards a second straight win to start the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, taking Thursday's NARC 410 sprint car main event at the Douglas County Dirt Track. McFadden, who started on the pole, fell back as far as fifth in the early going, coming after he was called for jumping the initial start, but found his groove as the race proceeded and began picking off the cars in front of him, eventually challenging Justin Sanders with nine laps to go. Getting his car wound up running the outside of the track, McFadden got a run off of Turn 4 as they completed the 22nd circuit and got inside of Sanders on the front stretch. McFadden threw a slider going into Turn 1, and Sanders tried to keep his speed up around the top of the race track, but couldn't motor back by as McFadden got in front of him. Sanders had to check up and couldn't turn his car back down, and McFadden had the lead. After taking the lead on Lap 23, McFadden took off from there and won for the second straight night aboard the American Rock & Rent-sponsored Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim. As he did Wednesday night at Southern Oregon Speedway, the Australian star celebrated with his patented "Shoey" celebration, drinking beer from a shoe atop his race car. He again praised the car field by Tom and Tommy Tarlton and the rest of the Tarlton Motorsports team. "Hats off to my guys. It's really tough jumping in a new car," McFadden said. "You know the rules package in Australia is different than it is here, so to get as comfortable as I am straight away is pretty cool, so hats off to those guys, working so hard and giving me a car that's great…Tom and Tommy Tarlton, their whole family." McFadden admitted to struggling in the first several laps, being upset with false start call at the beginning of the race, but gathered himself and changed up how he drove the car and where on the track, leading to his charge to the front. McFadden had won at the Douglas County Dirt Track in last August's High Limit Racing event, and added another win in Roseburg to his credit on Thursday. "It's really cool to get a win here with High Limit, and now NARC." Sanders, after leading 14 laps, backed up his third place finish from Wednesday night with a runner-up aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. This continued a run of strong finishes for the reigning NARC champion, as Sanders continues to work his way back toward the top of the point standings after his roller coaster of a spring earlier this season. Dominic Scelzi, after finishing second on Wednesday, got his second straight podium finish to start the week as well, taking third aboard the Red Rose Transportation-sponsored Scelzi Enterprises No. 41 Kistler-powered Maxim. Landon Brooks, who led the first eight laps after starting second, eventually finished fourth aboard the Specified Pipe-sponsored Bates-Hamilton Racing No. 21L Kistler-powered Maxim. A night after flipping upside down, Tanner Holmes bounced back with a fifth place run in the Legacy Builder Supply-sponsored Holmes Racing No. 18t Rider-powered Triple X. Sean Becker, in his first visit to the Roseburg, Oregon track, finished sixth, followed by Jesse Schlotfeldt, Bud Kaeding, Tyler Thompson and Dominic Gorden. Following an engine swap following qualifying, Gauge Garcia came from 22nd to finish 14th and earn the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod for the second straight night. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Sanders, McFadden and Brooks, before McFadden won the Beacon Wealth Strategies trophy dash to secure the pole position. Scelzi paced the 24-car field in qualifying with a time of 11.889 seconds around the 3/8-mile clay oval. - McFADDEN NAILS DOWN FASTEST FIVE DAYS NARC VICTORY AT SOUTHERN OREGON
(6/11/25 - Andrew Kunas) ... White City, Oregon - New team? New Track? No problem at all! That was the story for Australian star James McFadden on Wednesday night when he took NARC's opening feature of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports at Southern Oregon Speedway. McFadden ran second early in the 30-lap feature and on Lap 14 muscled past early leader Landon Brooks, running the bottom of turns one and two as Brooks got into the cushion at the top of the racetrack. McFadden took off and never looked back from there to take the win in his first race in the American Rock & Rent-sponsored Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim. After taking the checkered flag, McFadden parked his car on the front stretch and gave the fans his signature "Shoey" celebration, pouring a beer into his shoe and drinking from it atop his car. McFadden said that early on he felt he couldn't match Brooks running the top side and worked to make the bottom of the racetrack work and developed a rhythm to eventually get by the leader. McFadden praised his car and the Tarlton Motorsports team, expressing his excitement at winning the first night out with a new team at a track he had never been on. Brooks, with damage to his car following contact with other cars, had to surrender the second position and go to the work area during a red flag with 18 laps completed. That gave the second spot to Dominic Scelzi, who had been racing with Justin Sanders for third just a few laps earlier. Though he was unable to challenge McFadden for the lead in the closing laps, the former series champion still earned his best NARC finish of the season with a runner-up aboard the Red Rose Transportation-sponsored Scelzi Enterprises No. 41 Kistler-powered Maxim. Sanders finished third aboard the Yuba Sutter Aviation-sponsored Mittry Motorsports No. 2x Fisher-powered KPC. A pair of red flags, the first coming with just one lap completed, halted the action along the way and both took out cars that were running in the top. The lap two crash eliminated Robbie Price, who was running second, as well as Tanner Holmes who was in sixth place. Former series champion D.J. Netto brought out the red flag with 18 laps down when he found himself upside down after running fifth. Luckily, no drivers were injured. Billy Aton was one of the drivers in the Top 10 who stayed out of trouble throughout the race and finished fourth in the Legacy Glass-sponsored Billy Aton Racing No. 26 Kistler-powered Triple X. Washington visitor Jesse Schlotfeldt, in his first visit to Southern Oregon Speedway, came from ninth to finish fifth in the Grinder's Automotive & Marine-sponsored JRS Motorsports No. 21s Shark-powered Triple X. Behind the sixth finishing Dominic Gorden, Gauge Garcia earned the Williams Roofing Hard Charger Award by moving up 11 positions from 18th to finish seventh. Sean Becker, Bud Kaeding and Max Mittry rounded out the Top 10. Brooks won the Beacon Wealth Strategies - Raymond James Trophy Dash to secure the pole position for the main event. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Scelzi, Sanders, and McFadden. Robbie Price paced the 24-car field in Automotive Racing Products qualifying with a lap of 11.306 seconds around the large 1/4-mile clay oval. - McFADDEN NAILS DOWN FASTEST FIVE DAYS NARC VICTORY AT SOUTHERN OREGON
New team? New Track? No problem at all! That was the story for Australian star James McFadden on Wednesday night when he took NARC’s opening feature of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports at Southern Oregon Speedway.
- NARC SPRINT CARS INVADE THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FOR THE FASTEST FIVE DAYS IN MOTORSPORTS
(June 6, 2025 - Andrew Kunas) Auburn, CA ... One of the best weeks of the year for West Coast sprint car fans is here, as the NARC 410 sprint car series invades the Pacific Northwest for the annual Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, part of the "Road to the Dirt Cup." Five consecutive nights of action at as many tracks across two states are on tap, gradually moving north up the I-5 corridor. For most of the tracks, it will represent their only 410 sprint car races of the season. All of this is ahead of the $100,026-to-win Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway on June 19th, 20th and 21st. It all begins Wednesday, June 11th at Southern Oregon Speedway outside of Medford. The next night sees the series visit the Douglas County Dirt Track in Roseburg, followed by a visit to Cottage Grove Speedway, a short drive from Eugene. The final Oregon stop on Saturday, June 14th is Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, near Salem. The final day, Sunday the 15th, sees the NARC sprint cars cross the Columbia River into Washington and head to Elma for the annual Father's Day Timber Cup at Grays Harbor Raceway. Drivers from up and down the West Coast have committed to running all or at least part of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. And many fans will be traveling with them for the ultimate sprint car "road trip." Dominic Scelzi, the two-time NARC champion from Fresno and one of the most popular with Northwest race fans, is among those expecting to compete the entire week, and hoping for some good luck to come his way after some recent difficulties. Scelzi won last year's Timber Cup at Grays Harbor Raceway, one of his 23 career NARC triumphs, and hopes for more of that in this year's Fastest Five Days aboard the Gary Scelzi Motorsports No. 41. Reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas has had the very meaning of an "up and down" season but has two NARC victories this season and is a still a threat to win on any given night. The 2024 "King of the West" is coming off a recent Top 5 finish at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial and wants to stay on the "up" side of things aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x during the Fastest Five Days. Dominic Gorden of Clovis is riding high with momentum himself aboard the Fortitude Driver Development No. 10, coming off a lucrative victory at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial. The winner of two NARC events in his short sprint car career, the young driver is hoping that momentum from the Bradway continues, and he adds to his win total during the Fastest Five Days. One big name arriving in the U.S. this week is Australian superstar James McFadden, who will be piloting the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 entry for the Fastest Five Days and the Dirt Cup at Skagit. McFadden, the winner of 12 World of Outlaws and three High Limit Racing events, was also the winner in January of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, Australia's largest sprint car race. Having previously won a NARC event; McFadden is anticipated to immediately compete with the Tarlton team. This team has already experienced success this season with Tanner Holmes as the driver, including securing a NARC victory at Thunderbowl Raceway in May. Many more drivers from California will be making the trip to the Northwest, including former NARC Rookie of the Year Caeden Steele, who recently won his first NARC feature, and 2025 rookie candidate Mariah Ede, both from the Fresno area, along with former NARC champions DJ Netto of Hanford, Bud Kaeding of Campbell, and Sean Becker of Oroville. Benicia's Billy Aton, winner of one NARC feature in his career, is expected also along with a number of drivers who are strong candidates for their first NARC wins, including Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Rio Oso's Landon Brooks and Tucson's Nick Parker. Angelique Bell from Sacramento, Redding's Max Mittry, John Clark of Windsor, and Laton's Geoffrey Strole are all also expected to join. NORTHWEST DRIVERS DEFENDING THEIR TURF Speaking of Tanner Holmes, the young driver from Jacksonville, Oregon has been looking forward to this stretch of races in his home state and region. After racing for the Tarlton team, Holmes will jump into his family's No. 18T for this week's races and looks to perform well in front of friends and family. Southern Oregon Speedway will always be a special place to Holmes as last year's Fastest Five Days opener saw Holmes win his first NARC race. Holmes has won sprint car features at all four of the Oregon tracks NARC is visiting, including already this season at Cottage Grove, and hopes that it translates to more NARC success. Tyler Thompson, piloting the Main Motorsports No. 35km, is also racing on home soil this week. The Harrisburg, Oregon driver is a former track champion at Cottage Grove Speedway. Chasing NARC Rookie of the Year honors and sitting third in point standings, Thompson is hoping his familiarity with the Oregon tracks can be a spark, as he is one of the drivers pursuing his first NARC feature victory. It would also surprise absolutely none of the Oregon sprint car fans if Tyler Thompson and Tanner Holmes wound up racing each other with a victory on the line at any of the four races in the Beaver State. Whether it's in their family cars or racing for others, Thompson and Holmes have always seemed to find themselves racing around each other, going back to their younger days racing limited sprint cars. It's continued in the 410 ranks as the young men have found themselves racing each other for position multiple times in NARC competition this year. Drivers from Washington state and British Columbia are expected to venture down for all or part of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. One will be Cobble Hill, B.C.'s Robbie Price, a former Dirt Cup winner who won his first NARC race at last year's Willamette Speedway event. Jesse Schlotfeldt of Arlington, Washington will be a driver from the Evergreen State to watch. Schlotfeldt is a 410 winner at Skagit this season and also has wins this spring at both Douglas County Dirt Track and Grays Harbor Raceway in non-NARC competition to his credit. Schlotfeldt had indicated his plan to run the entire week and hopes to be a first-time NARC winner sometime during the week. Levi Klatt from British Columbia, a former Skagit Speedway track champion, has said he will run at least the first three races in Oregon, and depending on how things go sticking around for the last two races are a possibility for him. Medford, Oregon's Camden Robustelli, a standout from dwarf cars who has been finding success in limited and 360 sprint cars, has gotten his feet wet in 410 sprint cars and plans to get seat time against the stars of NARC. Robustelli indicated his plans to run at least four Oregon races, but if things go well, he may continue north to Elma for the Timber Cup and to Skagit for Dirt Cup. Medford's Blaine Cory, who made his NARC debut at April's Mini-Gold Cup, is expected to get more seat time against the best of NARC and run the entire week. Puyallup, Washington's Trey Starks, twice a NARC winner in the past and a High Limit Racing winner last year, is anticipated to appear at a couple of races towards the end of the week. Starks is a former NARC winner at Grays Harbor Raceway and already has numerous Skagit Speedway wins this season. While regularly racing Skagit Speedway, Starks is usually a contender wherever he goes and same goes for when he shows up at a NARC race. - NARC NOTEBOOK - June 3, 2025
(June 3, 2025 - Jim Allen) Auburn, CA ... There is a lot going on with the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series on the West Coast. Here are some updates from the official NARC notebook: The Fastest Five Days in Motorsports is shaping up nicely with many teams committing to the ultimate "Road Trip." The list includes Caeden Steele (121), Mariah Ede (14), Dominic Gorden (10), Tyler Thompson (35KM), Aussie James McFadden (21T), Gauge Garcia (2K), Max Mittry (2XM), DJ Netto (88N) Bud Kaeding (29), John Clark (12J), Dominic Scelzi (41), Angelique Bell (551), Billy Aton (26), Landon Brooks (21), Tanner Carrick (83V), Sean Becker (7B), Justin Sanders (2X), Tanner Holmes (18T), Geoffrey Strole (09S), Jesse Schlotfeldt (21), Blaine Cory (5K), Chris Bollock (17C), and Nick Parker (15.) We've also heard, but have not been able to confirm, that we will see Colby Thornhill and Robbie Price for the duration. Price picked off his first NARC feature of his career at Willamette in last year's edition. That's what we know so far, and that can change in a heartbeat. Usually, we find out a team is showing up when they pull through the pit gate - despite whether they committed or preregistered in advance. Several others are looking for rides, and others are doing partials (Soares & Starks). We expect some locals in 360's as well! Speaking of the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, which is less than two weeks away, you should be locking down your tickets. You can visit each of the five track websites individually or proceed directly to the NARC King of the West MYRACEPASS site to make your purchase. Based on phone calls and inquiries, there is going to be a huge convoy of fans and motorhomes making the entire journey, right up to the Super Dirt Cup. For those of you who can't make the trip, we know you have a good reason. You can still catch all the action on Floracing.com. By the way, though a sponsorship by way of Wholesale Outlet, a Sacramento area HVAC distributor, NARC has recruited the services of KC's Extreme Motorsports Safety for the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. They will be working in conjunction with local track crews to keep our drivers safe. Can you believe it? $100,026 to win the Jim Raper Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. It became a NARC points race in 2021 when the event transitioned back into a 410 race. It was all part of the Skagit, SLC Promotions, and NARC business plan to rebuild 410 sprint car racing on the left coast. Skagit is bright, it's clean, the food is good, it's well-promoted and has a buzz around it that it's the place to be on Saturday nights! That is a winning combination that should be cloned everywhere! The track and the Super Dirt Cup are on a trajectory equivalent to an Elon Musk rocket. Along the lines of the Super Dirt Cup, make sure you sign up for the Charity Golf Tournament taking place on Wednesday, June 18th. That is the day BEFORE the three-day racing show kicks off. We've got the entire Avalon Golf Links reserved and your entry includes golf, cart, gift bag, lunch, and great prizes. Sign-up on the Skagit Speedway website - skagitspeedway.com. Any money raised at this event will benefit the Rayce Rudeen Foundation and the NARC Benevolent Fund. There are only a few open foursome's remaining, so don't delay. First come, first served. If you haven't read the NARC Pit Personalities article on Angelique Bell, you should. Bell goes in depth about her fiery accident and extended recovery at Southern Oregon Speedway. She didn't pull any punches. Our 18-year-old columnist Michael Gilmer Jr. did an outstanding job on this interview. You can find it on NARC410.com. Activities for the August Louie Vermeil Classic at Napa County Fairgrounds are progressing rapidly. The RV Park and great lawn reservations sold out quickly. Ticket sales for the two-day show at Calistoga Speedway are selling at a rapid clip. Every time I talk to promoter Tommy Hunt, he informs me of all of the work that is taking place on the fairgrounds in preparation for the Labor Day weekend shows. Just think about if you walked away from your home for six years and did nothing during that period. The list of repairs and maintenance upon your return would be overwhelming. Calistoga Speedway is that times 10! The good news is that Tommy is ahead of the curve. It's a great feeling to get a track back into the fold, especially this one with a ton of history. Now, we just need Kings Speedway back in the mix. A conversation with Colby Copeland turned out some interesting info. There are now only TWO companies providing racetrack insurance in the United States. Two! Something tells me that we are going to see things tighten up with stronger enforcement and requirements in 410 sprint car racing. My guess: No drivers under 16, maybe 18, It was nice to see Chase Johnson back at the track. It's already been nine months since his High Limit accident. Despite all he has been through, Chase spirits are high and positive and he continues to work hard every day with physical therapy. There is still a ton of effort required on his behalf in the future to get his life back to normal. Let's continue to be his support system during his recovery. #24STRONG And how about Tyler Walker? Who? Yes, that Tyler Walker who was one of the top sprint car drivers in the nation a decade ago. He has experienced extreme highs and lows, from Kings Royal royalty to homelessness on skid row in Los Angeles. In his case, rock bottom even had a basement. However, he is back, determined to get his life back in order and is looking forward to racing sprint cars again. He mounted up in the Torgerson #02 sprint car at Placerville during the Bradway Memorial (in a 360) and didn't show much rust. You will see him in a 410 soon, probably as soon as the David Tarter Memorial in Chico. Remarkable things are in his future if he can keep it together and we support him in that mission. One of the more underrated drivers on the NARC tour may be Oregon's Tyler Thompson. He's steady, clean, and consistently advancing to the front in the Harold Main #35KM. He has got two ARP Fast Time awards in six events, two top fives, and a total of five top tens. As a result, Tyler sits third in the NARC standings and is the leading candidate for rookie of the year. To date, six NARC events have produced five winners in six-main events (the Morrie Williams Memorial event had two). DJ Netto and Justin Sanders have stolen two headlines each, and Tanner Holmes, Caeden Steele and Dominic Gorden claimed the other three. It was Tanner's second NARC win. He joked that his first NARC victory was a 13-lapper and his second was a 20. Now he is looking to score a 30-lapper soon. Don't count him out at home track: Southern Oregon Speedway. It was also the second win for Gorden, who picked off a Skagit Dirt Cup NARC preliminary last year. For Steele, it was the first NARC victory for the 2024 rookie of the year. He was solid for all 20-laps at Tulare. Looking forward, NARC features nine shows at seven tracks during June, our busiest month of the season. It doesn't get much better than that! The Howard Kaeding Classic is shaping up to fall into the "best ever" category. The new "two-day" show takes place on July 18-19th at Ocean Speedway. Saturday's feature baseline is paying $6,900 to win and $1200 to start the A. And baseline means exactly that - the starting point. It's only going UP! If you would like to get involved as a sponsor, contact the one and only Bud Kaeding at Kaeding Performance. He is waiting for your call at 408-371-3031. Special thanks to Karen Bradway-Tuccelli and the entire Bradway Family for their tremendous efforts in promoting and raising money for May 31st Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial race. An extra $17,000 was added to the 34th annual event purse, which continues to be one of the most popular races on the NARC schedule. A full house showed up at Placerville for a great weekend that also included the Davy Thomas Memorial. NARC officials will be sporting some special uniform shirts during the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. We are going to give race fans the opportunity to "buy the shirts off our backs" with all funds raised going to the NARC Benevolent Fund. The shirts, available in limited quantities and sizes are designed by Jim Gardner of Bullet Impressions, featuring the custom FFDM I-5 logo and can be yours for $100. We will even wash it before we UPS it to you. That's all for now! See ya!
- NARC SPRINT CARS HEAD TO CHICO ON SATURDAY FOR THE DAVID TARTER MEMORIAL
(6/2/25 - Andrew Kunas) Chico, CA ... A busy stretch for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series continues this Saturday with the 12th running of the David Tarter Memorial at Silver Dollar Speedway. Saturday's show, NARC's second and final visit to the Chico ¼-mile this season, honors the memory of Tarter, who died at the age of 30 in 2012 when a freak accident in the pit area took his life. The first David Tarter Memorial was run in 2013, won by Oroville's Sean Becker, and the event has since become a staple at Silver Dollar Speedway, where Tarter was a regular participant and former track rookie of the year. Saturday's 35-lap main event will pay $5,035 to win. Reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders of Aromas won last year's David Tarter Memorial on his way to the title and is expected to be one of the favorites as he was also a winner of the thrilling Mini-Gold Cup in April aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x. Dominic Gorden of Clovis is coming off a big win in last Saturday's Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial at Placerville Speedway. Gorden finished 16th in April's Mini-Gold Cup, but Gorden and the Fortitude Driver Development No. 10 team is hoping his second NARC victory serves as a springboard and creates momentum for the young driver going forward. Of the 11 prior times the David Tarter Memorial has been run, former NARC champion Kyle Hirst has the most victories in the event with five checkered flags. Sanders is the only other multi-time winner of the race. WHO TO WATCH Tanner Holmes and the Tarlton Motorsports No. 21T team have seen success together this season, including one NARC victory at the Morrie Williams Memorial, but Saturday's event will be their last together for a time as Holmes will shortly return to his family's no. 18T. At that point, Australian star James McFadden will jump into the Tarlton car for the next several weeks starting with next week's Fastest Five Days in Motorsports. Holmes nearly won the Mini-Gold Cup in a thrilling finish, narrowly losing out to Sanders. Returning to Chico this weekend, the Holmes and Tarlton team are hoping to improve by one spot to close out their first run together. Shane Golobic is another driver who has had success at Silver Dollar Speedway over the years. The Fremont driver has finished in the Top 10 in each regular NARC feature this season and that includes three podium finishes. Coming off a runner-up finish in the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, Golobic is a driver due for another NARC victory. Other drivers expected to compete this weekend include former series champion DJ Netto from Hanford, Oregon's Tyler Thompson, Fresno drivers Dominic Scelzi and Mariah Ede, Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery, Oroville's Sean Becker, Campbell's Bud Kaeding, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Easton's Caeden Steele, Benicia's Billy Aton, Lincoln's Tanner Carrick and many more. FAN INFO Silver Dollar Speedway is located at the Silver Dollar Fair on 2343 Fair St in Chico. BCRA Lightning sprints will be racing also. Tickets are $30 for adults, while seniors 65+ and juniors 13-17 are in for $25. Kids 12 and under are in for free. Silver Dollar Speedway will also be racing sprint cars on Friday night, giving fans two nights of racing action this weekend. - PLACERVILLE SPEEDWAY HOSTS NARC SPRINT CARS FOR THE DAVE BRADWAY JR. MEMORIAL RACE
(5/26/25 - Andrew Kunas) Placerville, CA ... One of the most prestigious sprint car races on the West Coast is next for the NARC Racing Series, as the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series competes in the 34th running of the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway. The event honors the memory of a popular young sprint car racer who lost his life at age 28 in a crash at the 1987 Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. Dave Bradway Jr was a winner of several NARC main events, his first coming at Petaluma Speedway in 1982, and he also won a track championship at the old Baylands Speedway. First run in 1991 and held every year but once since, the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial for a long time has been considered one of NARC's signature events and a staple on the West Coast sprint car scene. As has been the case every year, extra payout - a lot of it - will be up for grabs for the racers. Everything from bonuses for winning heat races, to cash for leading specific laps, to drawing specific pills, to quick qualifying time, to bonuses for just winning the race, and much more, will all be going out on Saturday night. With bonuses, Saturday's 40-lap main event will pay at least $5,500 to win. D.J. Netto of Hanford is the NARC points leader going into Saturday's race, having won twice so far this season as he picked up wins at the Stockton Dirt Track and Antioch Speedway. The former NARC champion will be looking to win the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial for the first time aboard the Netto Ag No. 88N. Fremont's Shane Golobic, second in the points, should be one to watch aboard the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w as he has seen a lot of success at Placerville Speedway in his career and has won twice there already this season in non-NARC competition. Golobic led much of the way in last year's Bradway, but this time hopes to win it for the first time. The list of past winners of the Bradway features many of the best to ever do it, including National Sprint Car Hall of Famers Brent Kaeding, Jimmy Sills and Paul McMahan. McMahan won the inaugural Bradway in 1991, while Kaeding has four to his credit, with Bradway victories coming in 1995, 1999, 2000 and 2007. No one, however, has won more than former series champion Jonathan Allard, who has five Bradway victories on his resume, picking up checkered flags in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2012. WHO TO WATCH The 2025 season in NARC competition for reigning series champion Justin Sanders has been nothing short of a roller coaster. Sanders, out of Aromas, has won two NARC features this season but has also experienced a number of lows across the way, including twice spinning out while racing for the lead. Sanders though has seen success at the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial, being a two-time winner of the event including last year's barn burner when he picked off a number of cars in the late laps to win it. Having a low moment the last NARC outing, Sanders hopes the roller coaster ride swings back up in the form of a third Bradway win for him aboard the Mittry Motorsports No. 2x. Lemoore's Gauge Garcia is still hunting for his first NARC 410 sprint car victory, and Placerville Speedway could be the place where that happens. Garcia led laps in last year's Dave Bradway Jr Memorial main event. Garcia and the Keller Motorsports No. 2k team hope that it happens again, only this time they stay up front and pick up a special victory. FAN INFO The NARC program will include qualifying, four 8-lap heat races, a 6-lap Trophy Dash, a 12-lap Last Chance Qualifier and a 40-lap main event. Placerville Speedway is located on the El Dorado County Fairgrounds at 100 Placerville Drive, in town just off U.S. Hwy 50. General admission is $28 for adults. Tickets are $25 for seniors 62 and older, military and kids ages 12 to 17. Kids ages 6 to 11 are in for only $10 and young children 5 and under are in for free. The fairgrounds is charging $10 for parking. There is more sprint car action on Friday night as well for fans to check out. The inaugural Davy Thomas Memorial, honoring the NorCal sprint car superfan who also supported NARC, will feature SCCT 360 sprint cars action that night. - HOLMES & STEELE SCORE MORRIE WILLIAMS NARC VICTORIES; KAEDING WINS OVERALL TITLE
(5/17/25 - Andrew Kunas) Tulare, CA ... Tanner Holmes and Caeden Steele were the big NARC sprint car winners at the Morrie Williams Memorial, each earning one of the twin 20-lap features Saturday at the Thunderbowl Raceway. For Holmes, it was his second career NARC victory, and Steele's win in the second feature was his first career triumph. Their victories came in the event honoring one of California's legendary and most popular car owners. And ironically it was Tim Kaeding who was the overall winner on points while driving the Williams Motorsports No. 0. Holmes ran third early in the first 20-lapper as reigning NARC champion Justin Sanders took the lead over Ryan Bernal at the start. Sanders led the first 11 circuits before Bernal challenged him on Lap 12. Bernal threw a slider in Turns 3 and 4, sliding up the track ahead of Sanders. Sanders turned his car back down to get inside of Bernal, but the two made contact entering the front stretch and caused significant damage to both cars. Both stopping on the track to bring out what would be the only caution between the twin 20-lappers, it handed the lead over to Holmes. Taking full advantage of that turn of events, Holmes motored away from the field and led the remaining nine laps to score the win aboard the American Rock & Rent-sponsored Tarlton Motorsports No. 21 Kistler-powered Maxim. Holmes won his first NARC feature race last June at Southern Oregon Speedway, driving his family's car. Having strong runs with the Tarlton team early this season, Saturday's win was one many felt was inevitable for Holmes. D.J. Netto, was unable to chase down Holmes late as they raced through traffic but still finished second in the Penny Newman Grain-sponsored Netto Ag No. 88N Rider-powered KPC. Kaeding finished third aboard the Emadco Disposal-sponsored Williams Motorsports No. 0 Maxwill-powered Maxim. Shane Golobic was fourth and Sean Becker finished fifth after starting eighth. Gauge Garcia came from 14th to finish sixth, earning the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod. Landon Brooks, Joel Meyers Jr, Tyler Thompson and Chance Grasty rounded out the Top 10 in the first main event. The second feature saw a complete invert of the cars that finished on the lead lap. That resulted in Holmes slated to start 17th, and it put Steele on the front row. Steele took advantage and led all 20 laps of the caution-free affair. Steele was challenged early by Joey Ancona and then made his way through traffic late, holding off the hard charging Braden Chiaramonte at the end to pick up his first career NARC 410 sprint car win. Steele celebrated by doing some donuts in the Tarlton & Son-sponsored BCCR No. 121 Kistler-powered Maxim and coming to a stop in Turn 4. He then climbed out of his car and sprinted on foot most of the way down the front stretch to celebrate with the family and team. Braden Chiaramonte took runner-up in the second feature aboard the System 1-sponsored Tiner Hirst Enterprises No. 94th Moss-powered Eagle after starting fourth. Dominic Gorden finished third aboard the Silva's All Natural Beef-sponsored Fortitude Driver Development No. 10 Rider-powered Maxim. Joey Ancona, after running second early on, finished fourth. Bud Kaeding was fifth ahead of Dominic Scelzi and Kaleb Montgomery. Tim Kaeding, Grasty and Netto rounded out the Top 10. Tim Kaeding earned the hard charger nod in the second feature, coming from 15th to finish eighth. His point score of 11 (the total of his two finishing positions, third and eighth, respectively), bested the 12 by Netto and the 13 by Holmes - who finished 12th in the second feature after winning the first. That fittingly gave Kaeding the overall win in the Morrie Williams Memorial, much to the delight of the team and his fans, and he also earned a $1,000 bonus for his work. Kaeding was pushed back out onto the track following the second feature and he celebrated by performing his usual set of donuts. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Sanders, Tim Kaeding, and Golobic. Tanner Holmes paced the 24-car field in Automotive Racing Products Qualifying with a time of 13.593 seconds around the 1/3-mile, high-banked clay oval. - NARC SPRINT CARS HEAD TO BUSY DOUBLEHEADER WEEKEND AT WATSONVILLE AND TULARE
The first doubleheader weekend of the season is next up for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series, with races at Ocean Speedway and Thunderbowl Raceway on tap. On Friday, May 16th, the NARC teams will head to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville for the Salute to First Responders. Police officers, fire fighters and EMT's with proper identification are all getting in for $10 off that night. The event is the first of four NARC events scheduled to take place at the quarter-mile clay oval this season. The April event was canceled due to bad weather. Justin Sanders, on his way to the 2024 NARC championship, won the lone NARC event in Watsonville last season when he picked up the prestigious Howard Kaeding Classic. After the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial was rained out on April 26th and subsequently rescheduled for this fall (October 4th), the series will make the first of its two visits this season to Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, with this Saturday's (May 17th) event being the ever-popular Morrie Williams Memorial Twin 20's. The event honors one of California's legendary sprint car team owners. Morrie Williams achieved many victories in races and championships, including four NARC King of the West titles. His iconic white No. The "0" car has been driven by numerous highly skilled racers over the years. After the first 20-lap race, all lead lap cars will be inverted for the second race. Numerous prizes will be up for grabs, thanks to the members of the Williams Motorsports team. A cash bonus of $1,000 also awaits the driver who accumulates the most points over the two features. Overall, more than $33,000 in prize money and product awards are on the line. Sanders and Tim Kaeding won the Morrie Williams Memorial Twin 20 features at Kings Speedway last year, with Cole Macedo earning the overall title by accumulating the most points across both races. Shane Golobic and Cole Macedo won the NARC events at Thunderbowl Raceway in 2024. Hanford's D.J. Netto has won two out of three NARC races to start the season. The former series champion won the March 8th opener at the Stockton Dirt Track and then last Saturday took the eventful Contra Costa Clash at Antioch Speedway. Netto, winner of nine NARC 410 races in his career, has sprint car victories to his credit at both tracks NARC is visiting this weekend. WHO TO WATCH Tim Kaeding of San Jose finished fourth in last Saturday's feature at Antioch after moving up eight positions aboard the Williams Motorsports No. 0, and it wasn't the first time he passed a lot of cars this season as back on March 8th at Stockton Kaeding moved up 15 positions to earn the Williams Roofing Hard Charger nod. In the Morrie Williams Memorial, the "Zero Heroes" have seen much success at the event bearing the name of their late team owner as they have scored a win in one of the Twin 20 features each year and with different drivers piloting the car. In the second feature last year, Kaeding charged from the 12th starting position and took the lead on the 15th lap on his way to a victory. Fremont's Shane Golobic has seen success at both of this weekend's tracks with the Matt Wood Racing No. 17w team. Golobic was the winner of last May's NARC race at Thunderbowl Raceway, and in 2023 he was the winner of the Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway. Those wins are among the 16 career NARC triumphs by Golobic. FAN INFO Ocean Speedway is located at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds at 2601 E. Lake Ave. Friday's event will also have IMCA modifieds and the South Bay Dwarf Cars on the schedule. All police, fire fighters and EMT's with proper identification will get $10 off their admission. Front gates open at 4:30 p.m. with qualifying at 6:00 p.m. and racing at 7:00 p.m. Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds on K Street. Saturday's show is all sprint cars as it will also feature 360 sprint cars and the California Racesaver sprints. Grandstand tickets are $35, seniors getting in for $33. Bleacher seats are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors and $15 for kids 12 or younger (kids 5 and younger are free in the bleachers).
