- Devin Moran Earns First Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Title
BATAVIA, Ohio (October 24, 2025) - After consecutive runner-up finishes, including a heartbreaking last lap loss to Hudson O'Neal in 2023, Devin Moran is now the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing National Champion. Moran, 31, of Dresden, Ohio, joins a distinguished list of drivers who have etched their names in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series history book, becoming the tenth different tour champion. Moran will receive $250,000 at the series awards banquet, a new record for the series champion in dirt late model racing. Entering the finale at Eldora Speedway, Moran held a 15-point lead over defending champion Ricky Thornton Jr. - meaning he only needed to finish ahead of Thornton in the 100-lap season-ending race to secure the championship. Ultimately, Moran secured a fourth-place finish, earning his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing National Championship by an 85-point lead. Thornton finished the race several laps behind after contact on lap 61 forced him to the pits for repairs. "This is amazing. I feel like we've been so good and so consistent, this is honestly a sigh of relief," Moran said about his runner-up position in the championship standings over the past two years. "I feel like we had a great car throughout the entire playoffs, and that was definitely the key. Being the first in my family to win a Lucas Oil championship is extremely meaningful. I have such a loyal fan base, friends, family, and sponsors - we couldn't have done it without them," Moran added. "Thank you to Roger Sellars and his family for trusting me with this opportunity. Driving for Double Down Motorsports has been a dream, and I look forward to what we can achieve together in the years ahead. The hard work and dedication of my team every day means everything. They never stop pushing for our goals, and I can't thank them enough." Moran finished his championship season with nine wins, 23 podium finishes, and 38 top-five finishes. - Devin Moran Wins Pittsburgher Opener
IMPERIAL, PA (October 3, 2025) - For the second year in a row, Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, won the Friday night portion of the Pittsburgher as he led the final 16 laps in scoring the $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing main event at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. With the win, Moran now trails points leader Ricky Thornton Jr. by five points heading into the $50,000-to-win 37th Annual Pittsburgher on Saturday night. Thornton was leading when he suffered a right rear flat tire with 14 laps remaining. Thornton pitted, returned to the race, and finished ninth. Brandon Sheppard passed Garrett Alberson with two laps to go to finish second, while Max Blair also overtook Alberson on the final lap to complete the Big River Steel podium in third. Alberson and Jonathan Davenport finished in the top five. Moran took the lead from the Victory Fuel pole and led the field for the first five laps until Thornton surged to the front on lap six. Thornton had started fourth and fell back to fifth early in the race, but he gained momentum by using the outside groove of the half-mile track to overtake Moran. However, Thornton then slowed exiting turn two with 14 laps to go as his right rear tire blew out, allowing Moran to regain the lead. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 24th time in his career, Moran will try to join his Hall-of-Fame father, Donnie, as the second father-son combo to win the Pittsburgher, joining Hudson and Don O'Neal. "We started off really strong at the beginning of the year but then struggled a bit through the middle as we tried different things and figured out what to do at this point. I honestly didn't expect the top to be that good, because it looked like there was just dust up there, but Ricky Thornton is Ricky Thornton for a reason. It was a bummer he got a flat, but we were lucky enough to take advantage of his misfortune. Once he got up there and burned that top in, and after he took the lead, I knew where to go. I felt like I was pretty good up there behind him." Sheppard finished 1.844 seconds behind Moran at the end, and like Moran, he will be looking for his first career Pittsburgher victory on Saturday night. "We were definitely trying some things for the long-run race tomorrow night. I felt like I was getting better in the longer runs we had, but we didn't get many long runs in, so we'll be ready tomorrow. We definitely need to fine-tune this a little bit, but all in all, the longer we went, the better we did. So with a longer race, we will be really good," said the New Berlin, Illinois, racer who sits fifth in the points. Blair got by Alberson on the final circuit to finish third after starting in seventh. "The race track was real fast at the start and that's just not me, so I just bided my time hoping it would slow down, and it did I wish tonight was 50 laps because I think we're getting better and better there, but hopefully we've got something to work with for tomorrow and maybe we can be back here on the podium." The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Hazen Services, BOMAG, Anthony's Pizza, Red Oak Pub, Refuel Wellness, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, Car Source Auto, McHugh Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Eibach Springs, VP Fuels, Smoky Mountain Speedway, and Haulin' Haskell's. Completing the top ten were Carson Ferguson, Donald McIntosh, Hudson O'Neal, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Gregg Satterlee. - Moran Earns First Career Win at Knoxville in Friday Preliminary
KNOXVILLE, IA (September 19, 2025) - Devin Moran took the lead from Brandon Overton on lap 17 and then pulled away to win the Friday night portion of the 21st Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by All Makes Collision Center. Moran, who started fourth, earned $10,000 for his first career win at Knoxville. Overton finished in second, followed by Jonathan Davenport, Bobby Pierce, and Garrett Alberson. Overton bolted to the lead at the start of the race, which had only one caution flag. Overton maintained the lead until Moran, who had been challenging Overton from the first lap, made his move exiting turn two on the 17th lap to take the lead. Moran went on to win by 0.517 seconds at the finish after splitting a pair of cars in traffic to secure the victory. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 23rd time in his career, the Dresden, Ohio native became the 52nd different Late Model winner in Knoxville Raceway history. "Winning at one of the greatest dirt tracks in the world is something to be proud of, whether it's a preliminary night or not, you know. I haven't been here very often, but every time we come, I feel like we have speed. We just discovered a couple of things, and we were really good all night. The air is so crucial for us because the track is so flat, and we can't carve like a sprint car. We can't come right up on that cushion; it's really challenging to do. They made some adjustments to the bottom of one and two, and I just hit that moisture patch there. I kept working on him (Overton), and finally, it paid off." Overton, who led the first 16 laps of the race, stayed in second the rest of the race to hold off Davenport. "Sometimes it's better to be second than to lead, so when I got behind him (Moran), I started to follow him. He was carrying way more speed. I was trying to stay wider to avoid sliding over the cushion, and he was just going so much faster, especially when entering one. But it is what it is. After the heat race, I felt really bad, but Burroughs and the team did a great job making it at least competitive, so we'll have a shot at it tomorrow. I believe our car is just as good as anyone here." Davenport, who finished third at the Knoxville Late Model Nationals in 2022, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium. "My car felt pretty good out there, but like anybody here, the closer I got to them, the worse I felt. Once we hit lapped traffic, I fell back a little, and I feel like I passed them both at one point during the last couple of laps, so that's something we can be proud of. At the start of the race, Devin was really fast; he was running a bit lower, so he was blocking my air, and I couldn't get lower than him. We were definitely a lot better tonight than last night. Hats off to the track crew; they did an awesome job today. They had a lot of wet clay to work around, but they handled it excellently. Hopefully, the track will be somewhat like that tomorrow." The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Hazen Services, Refuel Wellness, Anthony's Pizza, Car Source Auto, McHugh Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, VP Fuels, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, Red Oak Pub, Eibach Springs, Phillips CPA, Smoky Mountain Speedway, Haulin' Haskell's, BOMAG, and Millwood Plumbing. Completing the top ten were Ricky Thornton Jr., Brian Shirley, Brandon Sheppard, Carson Ferguson, and Ryan Gustin. - Pierce and Moran Score Friday Night Wins at Florence
WALTON, KENTUCKY (August 8, 2025) - Bobby Pierce and Devin Moran each won a feature race during the Friday night session of the 43rd Annual Sunoco North/South 100 presented by Lucas Oil at Florence Speedway, with both drivers earning $6,000 for their victories. Pierce took the lead from Jonathan Davenport in the first 25-lap race on the 15th circuit and maintained it for the win. Davenport finished second, followed by Brandon Overton, Brandon Sheppard, and Ricky Thornton, Jr. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the third time this season and the 27th time in his career, Pierce will attempt to make history Saturday night in the $75,000-to-win crown jewel race, as he tries to become the first driver to win the race, which began in 1984, three years in a row and four times overall - a feat never before achieved in the race's storied history. "It's very tough to lead at this track, especially around these corners. When they come up, you've got so many different lines to run, and JD really likes to run that middle line coming down. It was a great track; it had a bottom, middle, and top. It was tough in lapped traffic, and at one point, they were directly double-file in front of me. I kind of thought JD made the mistake of going low instead of high, but he got underneath those guys, and we almost went 4-wide. That's not a place you want to be, so I had to back out of it. The straightaways are so long, there's a lot of time to decide where they're going. You just have to look ahead and see where they're running - before you get to them, you already have that decision in your mind," said the Oakwood, Illinois native. Davenport, the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader and two-time North/South 100 winner, finished runner-up to Pierce in the first feature. "Obviously I can't see much out of the right side," as he talked about going four-wide in traffic off of turn four on lap 14. "I was coming down through here in the slime, trying to give everybody enough room outside of me. It was pretty wild there for a minute, but congratulations to Bobby. My guys worked today and last night trying to figure out our problem. We still had it in hot laps, and we went and changed one more thing, and that's what fixed it." Overton rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third in the first feature. "I'm honestly excited. Obviously, we're going to face a tough heat; there are no slouches here, and we'll probably start in the second row. We've had a good car both nights, you know. I was trying not to go too hard at the start, then Bobby passed us, and Daulton (Wilson) passed me, so I had to work my way back up to him. We're okay. I'm excited and looking forward to it." The winner's Bobby Pierce Racing, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Low Voltage Solutions, Churchill Transport, Collins Brothers Towing, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Pontiac RV, Rio Grande Waste Services, Toyota of Danville, VP Fuels, Ted Brown's Quality Paint and Body Shop, Fast 1 Speed Shop, Leka Tree Service, Floyd's Waste Systems, DuroMax Racing Oil, and Bert by Budda. Completing the top ten in the first feature were Zack Dohm, Michael Chilton, Dustin Nobbe, Max Blair, and Josh Rice. In the second 25-lap race to finish the night, Mike Marlar was in control from the start until contact from a car he was trying to lap ended his night on lap 15. Moran then inherited the lead and kept the field paced through several cautions in the final 10 laps to take the victory. Hudson O'Neal finished second, with Justin Rattliff rounding out the Big River Steel Podium in third during the second feature. Garrett Alberson was fourth, and Carson Ferguson completed the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the seventh time this year and the 22nd time in his racing career, Moran will be vying for his first North/South 100 victory on Saturday night. "I definitely thought the checkered flag was ever going to come out. Unfortunately, when the one caution that got us to the lead happened, it was unfortunate for Mikey (Marlar). I really don't think we had anything for him. Racing just happens like that sometimes when you try to squeeze in there by a lapped car, and apparently that car didn't know he was there. I really didn't know where to be on the restarts. I saw the 12 car (Jameson) in second on the top, and you never know where Hudson is going to be because his car has been really good on the bottom, and he's won races here on the top. It was a nail-biter. I felt like it was never going to end, and when you are running the top, it can be very treacherous. I'm glad it's over," said the driver from Dresden, Ohio native. O'Neal, who started sixth, fought off a battle with James Rattliff and teammates Jason Jameson and Justin Rattliff to finish second. "We needed to be careful at the right moments, so we had a couple of spots where the caution came out, and we had to go back to second. That's just part of it, and in these short 25-lap races, you've got to take advantage of every opportunity. I fell back to fifth and thought, man, I don't know if I can catch up in such a short time, but it ended up working out." Rattliff, a former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third place. "It's really cool to be up here. I'd like to dedicate this to Jeff Gullett, and I'm glad we could get a good run. I could hit the bottom about every other lap, and then they'd just sail on top, and I was just like I needed to hit my marks. I was just down there trying to be as consistent as I could be," said the Campbellsville, Kentucky native who has competed in just a handful of races over the past few seasons. The winner's Double Down Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Lazydays RV, C&W Trucking, Hazen Services, BOMAG, Millwood Plumbing, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, CarSourceAuto, Anthony's Pizza, Refuel Wellness, McHugh Chrysler Dodge, Jeep and Ram, Eibach Sprints, VP Fuels, Smoky Mountain Speedway, Haulin' Haskell's, Phillips CPA, and Red Oak Pub. Completing the top ten in the second feature were Logan Zarin, Jason Jameson, Kyle Bronson, Nick Hoffman, and Kyle Strickler.
