Before heading to the dirt track
We suggest you contact the dirt track and make sure there has been no change the dirt track racing schedule. It helps if you arrive early to any race. More seats are available and you have time to check out the facilities, food, and vendor opportunities.
Race Flags
GREEN FLAG = GO!
Indicating the beginning of the dirt track race. Also waved after a caution, letting drivers know the dirt track race has restarted. Green flag also indicates the dirt track is free of debris.
WHITE FLAG = FINAL LAP
The white flag indicates that there is only one lap to the finish the dirt track race.
GREEN AND WHITE CROSSED FLAGS = HALF WAY
Crossed green and white flags means it is the half way point of the dirt track race.
BLUE/YELLOW FLAG = PASSING AND OVERTAKING
Hold your line; there is a faster car coming up from behind.
RED FLAG = STOP!
Stop where you are, as quickly as possible. The red flag means the dirt track could be completely blocked by debris, an accident, or an emergency vehicle with no safe route on the dirt track.
YELLOW FLAG = CAUTION
Slow down; the yellow flag is a signal for caution. Drive at a slow pace and no passing. It is allowed to close the distance to the race car immediately in front.
BLACK FLAG = INFRACTION
The black flag generally means that there has been an infraction, requiring consultation with the dirt track officials. The black flag rolled up indicates that the driver is doing something wrong. Immediately take your car to the pit when the black flag is being waved.
CHECKERED FLAG = FINISH LINE
When the checkered flag is waived dirt track race is finished.
Checklist before heading out to the Dirt Track...
- Double check with the track that the races are happening.
- Check the weather forecast.
- Sunscreen?
- Coats?
- Blanket? To sit on (marking your seat) or to keep warm.
- Cash? Some tracks have no ATM machine.
Suggestions while you are at the dirt track...
- Buy a program - It will help you get to the know the racers and the dirt track.
- Play 'Pick-A-Winner' with the people around you. It gives you a racer to focus on and it is a fun game to play with those around you.
Pick-A-Winner
- Before every dirt track race, everyone picks a different racer to win the race.
- The person who picked the best finishing racer gets one point. At the end of the night, count up and see who won.
- Picking Order
- First dirt track race - the group decides. We suggest newest or youngest person in the group goes first.
- After first race - reverse win order. The person who picked the worst finishing racer goes first. Then second worst picker, etc. until you get to the recent winner, who picks last.
- Re-picking - If someone picked a racer that crashed or left the race, that person is allowed to pick a new racer. No reason they shouldn't be allowed to continue playing the game.
- GOOD LUCK!
Have a great time at the dirt track races. Bring family and friends. Tell others so this sport can continue to entertain and support those who like to go fast and race on the edge!
