Five-Time USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Champion Mike Spencer to Meet Fans Saturday

Perris, California — September 29, 2026 — Mike Spencer ranks among the most popular drivers in Perris Auto Speedway's 30-season history. This Saturday night, October 3, Heimark Distributors Anheuser-Busch will present the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and PASSCAR Stock Cars. Spencer will be the guest at Lance Jennings' Heroes and Legends Meet and Greet.

The 45-year-old Cal Poly Pomona graduate began racing in the California Lightning Sprint Car Series when The PAS opened. The second-generation driver soon moved into 410 sprint cars. After driving the Hal Engstrom No. 44, Spencer was selected by car owner Ron Chaffin to pilot his famous red No. 50 in USAC/CRA competition.

Spencer, who lives in Temecula, California, with his wife, Ashley, and children, Vera and Nolan, proved to be an excellent choice for the Bruce Bromme Jr.-tuned car. On March 3, 2007, he won the USAC/CRA main event at Perris in his fourth start with the team. He went on to win three more races that season and 38 in his career, ranking second on the all-time USAC/CRA list. Twenty-four of those victories came at Perris, also ranking him second in USAC/CRA wins at the track. His PAS victories included the prestigious 2012 Budweiser Oval Nationals.

In addition to racing his way to victory lane, Spencer became one of the series' most prolific champions. He won his first USAC/CRA title in 2008, his second year in the Chaffin car, and then reeled off five consecutive championships. At the time, that was more consecutive titles than any driver in the history of the combined USAC/CRA, SCRA, and original CRA, dating back to 1946.

After the 2017 season, Spencer hung up his helmet to spend more weekends with his family.

"Mike Spencer is one of the greatest drivers in the history of Perris Auto Speedway," promoter Don Kazarian said on Tuesday morning. "He was a contender every time he got on the track. In addition, he was always prepared. He is a very humble and friendly man. That made him very popular with the fans. There was never any controversy or soap opera stuff around him. He was a true professional."

"Huge thanks to Lance Jennings for putting the Meet and Greets together," Kazarian continued. "They are very popular with the fans who get to meet their racing heroes, including legend Mike Spencer."

From the time the gates open at 5:00 p.m. until opening ceremonies, Spencer will sign autographs and meet fans entering the track.

On the track on Saturday, Laveen, Arizona's R.J. Johnson, the two-time defending USAC/CRA champion and 2005 series Rookie of the Year, will bring a 289-point lead over "The Big Game Hunter," Austin Williams. After Saturday's race, the schedule will be down to five events, including the November 7 series finale at The PAS.

In PASSCAR competition, two championships are close to being decided. In the Super Stocks, Rick Arringdale leads his good friend, "Hot Rod" John Caley of Glen Avon, and George Leventis of Rancho Palos Verdes by 14 points. Victorville's Arringdale has two PAS titles, winning his first in 1998 and his most recent a quarter of a century ago in 2001.

In the Street Stocks, Chad Mahony of Yorba Linda is closing in on his first PAS championship. He enters Saturday's race with a 12-point lead over Leventis. Mahony's teammate, Morgan Rowlan of Riverside, is third.

The Factory Stock championship could go down to the November 7 season finale. Canyon Lake's David Stites, seeking his fourth title and third consecutive championship, leads Ramona's Cameron Broe by three points. Kris Carnish is third, just eight points behind Stites. Carnish, of Menifee, was the last driver not named Stites to win the title, taking the championship in 2023.

Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., with racing beginning at 7:00. Adult tickets are $30. Seniors 65 and older pay $25. Students ages 13 to 17 with school ID pay $15. Children ages 6 to 12 are $10, and children 5 and under are admitted free. Active-duty military personnel with valid ID are admitted for $5. Parking is $20 and the parking fee is payable by card only.
