- NARC SPRINT CARS ANNOUNCE 2025 SCHEDULE
(12/9/24 - Jim Allen) Auburn, CA ... The Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC) has released a compelling 29-race 410 sprint car schedule for the 2025 season that is loaded with special events and prize money. The traveling west coast series, which crowns a King of the West sprint car champion, will invade 16 different dirt oval tracks in California, Oregon, and Washington, beginning with a March 8th season opener at the Stockton Dirt Track. Overall, the 66th annual NARC campaign will award more than $850,000 in prize money and awards, plus a championship point fund and product awards. The centerpiece of the season takes place in June with the Fastest Five Days in Motorsports, which will invade Southern Oregon Speedway, the Douglas County Dirtrack, Cottage Grove Speedway, Willamette Speedway, and Grays Harbor Raceway on consecutive nights beginning on June 11th. The "Road to the Dirt Cup" continues the following weekend with the June 19-21st Jim Raper Super Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway. The winner of that Saturday finale will earn a stout $62,000 payday. Another energizing highlight on the calendar is the return of Calistoga Speedway and the ever-popular Louis Vermeil Classic on August 30-31st. The historic half-mile oval, located in the heart of Napa Valley's wine-country, has been dormant since 2019 due to political log jam on a sale of the facility. HMC Promotions is currently collaborating with local contractors to renovate the facility before racing action returns. The month of April features the first of five nights of NARC racing at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, starting with the Spring Fling on Friday, April 4th, followed by a return trip to the Stockton Dirt Track for the Asparagus Cup in Stockton (April 5th). The following Saturday (April 12th) Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico will provide the stage for the $10,000 to win Mini-Gold Cup. Chico also showcases the NARC sprint cars on June 7th for the David Tarter Memorial. The Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway wraps up the month with the April 26th Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on their one-third mile track. Antioch Speedway hosts the first of two events on May 10th, which leads into an action-packed Ocean Speedway/Thunderbowl Raceway doubleheader weekend on May 16-17th. The Tulare show is the lucrative Morrie Williams Memorial Twin-20 show, an event that was relocated from Kings Speedway in Hanford. Kings Speedway is still searching for a track promoter and is not on the 2025 schedule. Placerville Speedway is on the schedule twice in 2025, beginning with the popular Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial on May 31st. The series returns to the quarter-mile bullring on September 6th between the High Limit and World of Outlaw swings into the Golden State. Four July events sidestep the summer heat in California with premium coastal events within 15-miles of the Pacific Ocean. The "cooler weather" tour kicks off with the July 12th $5200 to win David Lindt Memorial at Petaluma Speedway. Race fans will also be excited to hear that the popular Howard Kaeding Classic at Ocean Speedway will now be a two-day 410 show on July 18-19th. Among Saturday's highlights is the HK Luncheon, which raises money for the NARC Benevolent Fund, and a $6900 to win, $1000+ to start feature event. The NARC sprint cars will make their only appearance of the season at the revitalized Santa Maria Speedway on July 26th. New to the schedule will be the return of the Johnny Key Classic as a 410-sprint car event on the NARC schedule. The 65th annual event, which has been a 360 race for the past couple of decades, takes place on August 2nd at Ocean Speedway. The season winds down in the Fall with Open Wheel Octoberfest at Antioch Speedway on October 11th and the October 25th October Classic at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. Once again, the Stockton Dirt Track will be the home of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series season finale, featuring the 42nd annual Tribute to Gary Patterson on November 1st. The posh Brookside Country Club in Stockton will host the NARC Champions Celebration the following day. All NARC series' events are live streamed on Floracing.com. About the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series The Northern Auto Racing Club was founded in 1960 by Louie Vermeil, with a goal of promoting exciting and entertaining open wheel racing on the West Coast. - BRENT SEXTON WRAPPED UP HIS 2024 SEASON AT THE TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX
(Lakeside, CA, December 4, 2023) A little over 10 months after it all began, Sexton Gatlin Racing's Brent Sexton wrapped up the 2024 campaign on Thanksgiving weekend in the 83rd running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway. The veteran racer competed in the Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series portion of the program. The two-night show matched Lakeside, California-based Sexton against a stellar field of drivers from around the nation. Friday's preliminary night saw 50 cars show up at the tiny 1/5 of a mile track on the beach at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Sexton, a 52-year-old Tennessee native, qualified fifth fastest in his group with a lap of 12.789. Powered by a former Rico Abreu Shaver 360 engine, the three-time lightning sprint car champion had a good starting position in his heat race on the inside of row three. Unfortunately, a tap with another car saw his right rear go flat. The deflation saw him finish 10th. That flat tire meant that Brent had to go to one of the B mains. The race was only 12 laps long and would go by in the blink of an eye on the little track. Starting ninth in the 10-car field, the wily veteran had to finish third to transfer to the A main. The laps wound down quickly and Sexton drove his way to sixth. However, time ran out before he could get past three more cars, and he was done for the night. The following evening, Brent had one shot at making the A-main. That came in one of the three B mains. It was a 12-lapper like Friday night, and he was starting ninth. However, this time he only had to get to fourth. Once again, he began passing cars and raced his way up to sixth. But like the night before, the laps ticked off quickly. Brent ended up two spots shy of the transfer. That ended his racing weekend and put wraps on his 2024 season. SGR is already making plans for the 2025 campaign, with the first race of the year coming in February. If you would like to join the team for a fun, exciting ride on the sprint car trail, call Brent Sexton or email him at the contact information at the top of this release. Sexton Gatlin Racing would like to thank the following companies for making the 2024 season possible. East County Electric Works, Keys Brothers, BR Motorsports, Maxima Oil, Automated Interiors, Valley Lubricant Services, Sexton Fire Protection, BK Wings, Troy Dirt. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR GETS A LITTLE TIME OFF BEFORE RETURNING TO THE SPRINT CAR WARS IN FEBRUARY
(Chino, CA, November 19, 2024) Veteran sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr of Chino Hills, California, is looking forward to getting some time off before he returns to the sprint car warfare in February. Plans right now call for him to make his 2025 debut in the family-owned #51T when the USAC National Sprint Car Series heads to Florida for its season openers. It will be the start of his sixth season racing 410 sprint cars. While not chasing any championships in 2024, Tafoya, who was the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, finished third in the championship standings of the first-year Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The talented racer also finished 11th in points in the USAC/CRA series. All told he started 27 sprint car main events during the season. He finished in the top ten 13 times with a season-best second-place finish in the USCS race at Santa Maria on June 15th. His best finish in the USAC/CRA Series came the week before when he placed fourth at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway in Bakersfield. Last Friday, on a day off from work and with no races on his schedule until 2025, the 27-year-old answered some questions about the 2024 season and what is on the horizon for next year. S.D.: First, the obvious question: how happy were you with the way 2024 went? Tafoya: I feel good. Always as a racer, I guess you always want more and want to do better. Definitely a solid year. About halfway through, we started picking and choosing what we wanted to do just to mellow out. We have been wide open for five years. We just wanted to give ourselves some time and make sure we were doing everything right and give ourselves the best shot going into the new year and see what we can do. S.D.: After a tough start to the season at Perris when you got clobbered from behind, I think you rolled it into the trailer every night. Tafoya: This year, I was really, really good on equipment. I really did not hurt much except maybe a bent axle or something minor like that. S.D.: That has to feel good knowing you do not have to repair and replace a bunch of torn-up stuff. Tafoya: Money wise it is always good. It is also good for your momentum. If you are tearing stuff up, you can kind of lose your way and get down. It can take too many races to get back to where you want to be. I like to keep pushing forward and not have too many setbacks. This year, we were really good about that stuff. S.D.: Were you guys getting burned out? Tafoya: It is not really the racing. It is all the stuff you have to do with a family team. Me and my dad are the only ones who do anything on our vehicles. We do have another guy, Curt, who helps me out a bunch. Other than that, when we break stuff or wreck stuff, it is just me and my dad in the shop late nights fixing stuff. It definitely takes a toll on you. Last year we were on the road traveling for eight weeks. It is just a big task to do when you both have full-time jobs. Between the both of us, we just kind of decided not to overwork ourselves this year. S.D. What does the equipment situation look like for 2025? Tafoya: We built a whole new car last year. Now I have three really, really good cars. So, we will just tear them down and rebuild them just to make sure we do not have any parts failures and stuff. As far as the package goes and our stuff, we are definitely happy with it. We are just going to make it nice and brand new again for next year. S.D. Will you run the same type of schedule in 2025 as you did this year, or will you try chasing points? Tafoya: I definitely want to do good in points, and a lot of cards have to fall in place. The last two years, we've had some freak stuff kind of go on that put us out of the points. Instead of banging our heads against the wall and scratch and claw for every point, we just kind of go to have fun and do the best we can do. That is usually when I am driving my best. S.D.: So, you have some time to get away from the race cars right now. What are you going to do? Tafoya: Yeah, for a little while. Off-season is not a full-time break for three months for sure. We will definitely go through our entire program and rebuild a lot of stuff and make sure we are all squared away and our ready to put our best foot forward in February. S.D.: A couple of weeks ago, you told me you wanted to open the season in February in Florida with the USAC National Sprint Cars. Is it the same plan now? Tafoya: The talk right now is to start in Florida in February, but that is about as far as it has gotten. We have our eyes set on that. See where it goes from there and just try to be in contention. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram @eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - LOGAN WILLIAMS HAS HIS BEST SEASON TO DATE
(Ontario, CA, November 18, 2024) Logan Williams, the youngest of the three Williams brothers racing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, recorded his best season to date in 2024. Driving the recognizable Flowdynamics #5W, he steered his way to a sixth-place finish in the championship standings. The finish and accomplishments achieved by the 28-year-old during the year have him ready to return when the series commences on the other side of the new year. Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, had perfect attendance in the 20th season of the series that is headquartered in Southern California. In the 22 races that comprised the schedule, he started the A main 21 times. In those, the friendly driver finished in the top five six times and the top ten 15 times. Of the top five, his best outing was a second at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway on the second Saturday in June. He also placed third and fourth two times each and had a fifth-place result. "I would not say satisfied," Williams responded when asked about his 2024 campaign. "We obviously wanted to win, but it was definitely our best season by far." "Probably almost winning at Perris," the 28-year-old quickly answered about his highlight of the year. "We led 21 laps or whatever. And Santa Maria when we had a good chance to win when Chiaramonte won. Also, when I finished second at Kern. Those three right there stand out for me." While the 2014 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has been a formidable competitor throughout his career, his performances in 2024 were noticeably improved over his previous campaigns. In fact, he was a contender every time he came to the track during the year. "Just figuring stuff out with the cars, and me being able to do better towards the end of the races," the confident driver said when asked what propelled him to such a good season. "Me, my dad, Randy, and Clayton worked on the car. Mike English (a past top competitor in the series) set up my car at the last race." Amongst the series regulars that Williams squared off against at every race were his two older brothers, Cody and Austin. That provided an interesting angle coming into the last race of the year. Cody, the eldest of the siblings, was sixth in the championship standings and Logan was seventh. However, the gap between the two was only 10 points coming into the finale at Perris Auto Speedway on November 9th. Before the main event, Cody added a few more digits when he was the second-fastest qualifier on the night. At that point, it looked like Logan would be forced to settle for seventh in the points race. Magnifying his advantage, Cody was starting fifth in the main while Logan began the final battle of the year in ninth. But, Cody left the fray on lap 22 and placed 18th. With Logan rolling forward from ninth to sixth, he earned enough points to take the sixth spot in the standings back from his brother and thus, earned bragging rights over the winter. "You try to race everybody as hard as you can," he replied when asked about racing against his brothers. "You try to be a little more careful around them, I guess. We all want to do good and want each other to do good as well." Now with some time off, Williams is going to kick back a bit before sliding back into the cockpit early in 2025. "Not much, to be honest," Williams laughed when asked about his winter plans. "Just work on the car a little bit and enjoy my time off until we start racing again. We plan on running the full season next year. We may have some trouble getting some funding to make it the whole year, but as of right now, we plan on making all of them." Williams and his teammate Matt McCarthy would like to thank the following sponsors for making the 2024 season possible. Flowdynamics Inc., PurgePlugs.com, Cal Therm Mechanical Insulators, JFK Design Build, So Cal Racing Fuel, and Full Throttle Lift. - THREE RACES REMAIN ON LOGAN WILLIAMS 2024 USAC/CRA SPRINT CAR SERIES SCHEDULE
(Ontario, CA, October 31, 2024) Rising California sprint car star Logan Williams begins the final two weekends of his 2024 season this Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd, in the 57th Annual Avanti Windows and Doors Western World Championships at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway. The 28-year-old will bring the final curtain down on his season at Perris Auto Speedway on November 9th. For Williams, who comes into the race sixth in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA championship standings, 2024 is the third straight year that he has competed in the famous Western World Championships. His best outing in the race came in last year's preliminary night when he finished eighth. Williams, who resides in Yorba Linda, California, spent time away from racing last week. Two weeks ago, he ran back-to-back nights when USAC/CRA made its first-ever visit to the quarter-mile Imperial Valley Raceway. Opening night, he qualified eighth fastest and placed third in his heat. Starting on the outside of the front row in the main. Williams, 28, raced within the top five until getting caught up in someone else's mess later in the race. Unfortunately, that scrape resulted in him getting saddled with an 18th-place finish. Twenty-four hours later, Williams rebounded nicely from the first night. He qualified in the 15th spot. He steered the pretty #5W under the checkered flag in second place in his 10-lap heat race. Unfortunately, he had to start 15th in the main event. However, he put on a crowd pleasing show once the race began. After starting 13th, he passed six cars and finished the 30 lapper in seventh. Only two other drivers passed more cars than Williams in the exciting race. This week will be the third appearance for National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Rip Williams' youngest son at Mohave this year. Thus far, he has finished in the ninth and 12th places at "Arizona's Baddest Bullring" in 2024. The ninth was his best finish at the track since USAC/CRA started heading there in 2022. Fans who cannot make it to Mohave Valley to see Williams and all the other stars in person can watch both nights live on Flo Racing. Gates at the Mohave Valley Raceway will open at 5:00 p.m. each day, with racing at 7:00. An adult two-day ticket is $45.00. Single-day tickets are $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for children. Online advance tickets are available until November 1st at 12:00 a.m. Central Standard Time at https://www.myracepass.com/tracks/2145/tickets/1413705. It is cash only for tickets (no ATMs on site). - EDDIE TAFOYA JR HEADS TO MOHAVE VALLEY FOR THE 57TH WESTERN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
(Chino, CA, October 30, 2024) With a dazzling new wrap on his hauler, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is ready for the biggest race of his 2024 season this Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd, at the Mohave Valley Raceway. The event is the historic 57th annual Avanti Windows and Doors Western World Championships for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Each night, the program will feature full shows with qualifying, heat races, and main events. The two nights of racing this weekend will take place at one of Tafoya's favorite tracks. The racy 1/3 mile banked oval, which is just minutes from the Colorado River and less than a half hour from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, is known for some of the best wheel-to-wheel action in the country. Every time he is there, Tafoya is in the thick of the wild battles, and he can usually be found rim-riding at the top. "I don't know if it is the track shape, or maybe the banking, I am just really confident getting the car in there," Tafoya said before his last trip to Mohave in October. "Ever since I was there the first time, I have had a good base setup. I just jell well (there). So, it is really exciting to go back there. I think that is the only track I have been good at every single time. I need to figure out what I am doing there and carry it on to the other places." This weekend will be Tafoya's third time at the track this year. He placed in the top 10 in his first two appearances. On April 6th, the 27-year-old veteran racer was the second-fastest qualifier on the night. He started sixth in his heat race and moved forward to finish fourth. That night, he began the main event on the inside of row three in fifth and placed six. Last month, when Tafoya returned to battle on the edge-of-your-seat track, he turned in the eighth-fastest qualifying time and dazzled the crowd with a brave ride around the top to win the second 10-lap heat race. He began the 30-lap feature in the eighth spot and finished seventh. The first time he ever saw the "Copper State" track on April 22nd, 2022, he finished third in the USAC/CRA main event. "Driving-wise, it is one of my favorite racetracks," Tafoya said. "You can be really aggressive for most of the night until it slicks off. Even when it was slick last year, I think I was the only one running the top until I got to the front and showed those guys that. It is fun, and it is a racy little place. Hopefully, some moisture stays in the dirt for us." Gates at Mohave Valley Raceway will open at 5:00 p.m. each day, with racing at 7:00. Concessions, souvenirs, and the beer garden take cash or cards. For more information, the track website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/, and the office phone is (928) 346-6000. Tafoya will wrap up the USAC/CRA portion of his season on November 9th at Perris Auto Speedway. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram @eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - NARC SPRINT CARS DOUBLING UP WITH LATE SEASON STOPS AT KERN RACEWAY AND KINGS SPEEDWAY
(10/22/24 - Ben Deatherage) Bakersfield, CA ... The 65th Anniversary NARC 410 Sprint Car Series campaign is quickly winding down but will offer a fix of open wheel racing with a rare October doubleheader this weekend featuring shows at two different facilities. Fans will be treated to 900+ horsepower sprint car racing at Kevin Harvick's Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Friday, October 25th, for the October Classic. This show runs in conjunction with the ARCA stock car series, which will be practicing and qualifying on the neighboring half-mile paved oval earlier in the day. Then the show moves over to the dirt track. Kings Speedway in Hanford will cap the weekend with the Anthony Simone Classic on Saturday, the 26th. The Anthony Simone Classic, a race held in memory of the late Fresno-based driver, is a unique event in the NARC 410 Series. Known as 'Mr. Excitement,' the event is a celebration of Simone's spirited personality and legendary stories, both on and off the track. His iconic #10 machine and trademark mustache were synonymous with his racing career where he raced on both pavement and dirt. "Returning to my home track in Hanford, I believe we have a slight advantage due to the numerous laps I've run there," said Cole Macedo, the current NARC point leader. "We also had a strong performance at Kern last year, and I'm eager to tackle both tracks." Since its establishment in 2021, the Simone Classic has yet to have a repeat winner, with Shane Golobic, Rico Abreu, and Corey Day scoring wins. Complementing the NARC 410 Series at Kern County will be the Western Midget Racing series and the Southern California Dwarf Cars. The Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints and the Western RaceSaver Series 305 Sprints will join the card at Hanford. Championship Chase Cole Macedo brings a slim 11-point advantage into Bakersfield, a position he reclaimed after his victory at the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial on October 12th. Now back in the driver's seat of the championship chase for the NARC King of the West title, the Lemoore racer hopes to build a healthy cushion to ease the pressure of going into the November 2nd season finale at Stockton. "Ultimately, the goal is to have a big enough points lead where we can have some breathing room at Stockton," mentioned Macedo, "I'd love to have a little bit of a bubble to have a decent night and not worry about it, run really hard, and put it all on the line." In the lone NARC trip to Kings this season, Macedo piloted the Tarlton Motorsports #21 entry scored a pair of third place finishes during the Morrie William Memorial Twin 20s and won the event championship. His last journey to Kern ended with a fourth-place result, his career-best at the facility. On the other side of the battlefield is Justin Sanders. The Aromas driver is determined to bounce back big after a heartbreaking night at Tulare, which saw him bow out early due to mechanical problems. Something notable that favors the Mittry Motorsports #2X chauffeur is that he's achieved wins at both tracks. The last two times NARC has been to Hanford, both during the Williams Memorial weekend, Sanders has won. His lone winner's circle visit at Kern was on October 30th, 2021. While there is no doubt the chase for the King of the West championship has been a primary focus, the race for third in the table is also a hot contest between three competitors. 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding leads the trio, rustling for third in points. Representing Campbell, Kaeding has a streak of five consecutive Top 10 finishes. A winner at Kings in 2012, he boasts four top five's and a lone podium at Kern when he finished runner-up in 2019. Leading Rookie of the Year candidate Caeden Steele hopes to rebound from a tough night in Tulare a couple of weeks ago. Trailing Kaeding by 18 markers, the Easton driver will hope to carve his way to the podium in his remarkable campaign. At Kings at the beginning of the month, he was tenth and sixth in the Twin 20s of "The Morrie." He has never made an appearance at Kern. Completing the current top five in points, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield is among several drivers hungry for his first career NARC feature. Aboard the Dave and Debbie Vertullo-owned #83V, he finished fourth and fifth in his last two series starts, with his previous venture to Kings producing a fifth-place result, and he was sixth in his most recent outing at Kern. He's 26 points behind Kaeding and just eight markers behind Steele. Who To Watch Shane Golobic, as noted, will be a driver to be on the lookout for. The Fremont pilot in the Matt Wood Racing #17W has had a fair share of success at both venues. His lone win at Hanford was the Simone Classic in '21, while he's collected three victories at KCRP, including one in 2021 and two in 2018. Two-time NARC champion Dominic Scelzi is also ready to rip at two tracks he's managed to succeed at over the years. The Fresno phenom swept the pair of NARC events at Kern in 2019 and has amassed an impressive win total of five visits to victory lane at Kings. Two other newcomers not to be discounted are Gauge Garcia and Dominic Gorden. Behind the wheel of the Keller Motorsports #2K, Garcia had an impressive third place at Kings, while his lone appearance at KCRP resulted in a 15th place finish. posting. Both results were from last year, but the young man from Lemoore finished eleventh in both Twin 20s for the Morrie Williams Memorial at Kings earlier in October. Dominic Gorden remains the only Rookie to have won a NARC main event this season. The young man from Clovis recently had his best run ever at Kings when he finished ninth in the second Twin 20 a few weeks ago, and in his only trip to Kern, he was seventh last year. A notable addition to the mix will be Justyn Cox, who steps back into the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X entry after a hiatus due to an injury suffered at the Douglas County Dirt Track on August 26th with the High Limit Series. Before being sidelined, Cox picked up a win at Cottage Grove this season and was in contention for a victory at Santa Maria in late July. The Roseville racer has a good history with NARC at Hanford, including eight Top 10s in eleven career starts, including two podium finishes. 2019 NARC champion D.J. Netto is hopeful to earn his first series win of the season. It has not been for lack of trying. The Hanford native was a couple of laps away from doing so at Tulare in the most recent NARC event. Arizona transplant Nick Parker is looking to build off of what's been an incredible 2024 season. Now living in Chico, Parker has procured a pair of his first career top five results with NARC earlier this season. Benicia's Billy Aton is another NARC regular making the journey this weekend. He has three top ten finishes this season, with one coming at Kings. He has five top ten's at Kings, including a fifth-place finish in 2021. - TWO USAC/CRA RACES ON TAP FOR LOGAN WILLIAMS THIS WEEKEND AT IMPERIAL
(Ontario, CA, October 17, 2024) After a short five-day turnaround, Logan Williams will be back in the Flowdynamics #5W this Friday and Saturday when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series heads to the Imperial Valley Raceway for the 3rd Southern Fall Classic. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM both nights, with racing at 7:00. General admission grandstand tickets are free. Last Saturday, Williams and his crew made the journey to the Mohave Valley Raceway in western Arizona. The 28-year-old opened the night by being the 14th fastest car in qualifying with a time of 15.477. He then started on the outside of the second 10-lap heat race on the balmy desert night. When the checkered flag ended the race on the lightning-quick, banked 1/3 mile oval, Williams sailed past the start-finish line in third. For the 18th main event in the series 20th season, Williams, who lives in Yorba Linda, California, began in the 14th spot. Like always, he moved forward in the main event and advanced two spots to finish 12th. The result ended a three-race streak of top-10 finishes, and it was only the fourth time this season that he has finished worse than 10th. Going into this weekend's races, Williams is sixth in the series championship standings. He is a mere four points out of fifth and only 38 markers out of fourth. Williams will compete on the same fairgrounds the original CRA first raced on in 1956 and his National Sprint Car Hall of Fame father, Rip Williams, debuted on 47 or 48 years ago. At that time, the action was contested on a large half-mile oval. Saturday's race will be conducted in front of the same grandstands and on the same front straightaway as when his father raced there. However, the track being used this weekend will be a quarter-mile oval. Once again, general admission seating is free on both nights. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m., and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. Imperial Valley Raceway is located on the Imperial Fairgrounds at 200 East 2nd Street in Imperial, California. After this weekend's races, Williams will get a week off before heading to the 57th Annual Avanti Windows and Doors Western World Championship at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on November 1st and 2nd. A week later, he will be at the year's final USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto Speedway on November 9th. - SEXTON GATLIN RACING GOING TO IMPERIAL VALLEY RACEWAY THREE STRONG THIS WEEKEND
(Lakeside, CA, October 15, 2024) Sexton Gatlin Racing returns to action in a big way this Friday and Saturday at the Imperial Valley Raceway. Father and son drivers Brent and Grant Sexton will be contesting both nights in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 3rd Annual Heritage Fall Classic. The newest member of SGR, Braydin Collie, will also be on hand for the SoCal Lightning Sprint Cars portion of the two-night affair. Brent, 52, comes into this weekend's races off his second-best USAC/CRA finish of the 2024 campaign. That was an 11th at Perris Auto Speedway on September 21st. That finish was only superseded by a ninth at Perris on July 13th. Coming into this week's races, Brent is 13th in series points and is third in the Rookie of the Year award chase. Grant, who turned 20 three months ago, has been in the wrong place at the wrong time several nights in the USAC/CRA Series this season. Getting dragged into the mistakes of others has proved to be costly during the current campaign. While he has been fast every night, the 2023 Rookie of the Year has one top 10 finish in USAC/CRA this season. That came at Perris when he placed sixth in the 30-lapper on June 6th. The young driver enters the weekend 15th in points. Last March, Brent and Grant both competed at Imperial during the California Mid-Winter Fair. Brent raced the opening weekend in the inaugural races of the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series. The three-time lightning champion had a successful weekend, placing second and fourth. A week later, he jumped up to the open competition full-size sprint cars and placed 12th and 16th. Grant had a better result than Brent on that weekend when he came home ninth and fifth. Last season, Brent raced lightning sprints four times at Imperial. He never finished worse than fourth, including a win in the POWRi Southwest Series a year ago this weekend. San Diego's AJ Bender also triumphed for Lakeside, California-based SGR at Imperial in 2023. In addition to those wins, El Cajon's Braden Chiaramonte had a victory for the team early in the year. That gave SGR wins in three of the five lightning mains at the fairgrounds oval in 2023. In 2022, Brent recorded two wins at the track, and his oldest son, Dalton, also notched one victory. For Collie, this week's races will mark his first appearance on the Imperial Valley oval. It will be a unique one as well. On Friday night, he and the other SCLS drivers will be racing without wings. Friday will only be his second time racing sans wings. The last time was at Barona three weeks ago. In that race, he started eighth and finished sixth. On Saturday, the drivers will all compete with their cage and nose wings affixed to the cars. The weekend will mark Collie's fifth and sixth races in a lightning sprint car and only his second and third races away from Barona. Thus far in his budding lightning career, Collie has finished sixth or better in three of his four races. The highlight thus far was a fifth place at Barona on August 3rd. Despite only contesting three SCLS races, Collie has climbed up to 14th in points. General admission tickets for this weekend's races are free. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Imperial Valley Raceway is located on the Imperial Fairgrounds at 200 East 2nd Street in Imperial, California. Sexton Gatlin Racing would like to thank the following companies for making the 2024 season possible. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR FINISHES EIGHTH AT KERN AND HEADS TO MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY THIS SATURDAY
(Chino, CA, October 10, 2024) After placing eighth in the final regular season main event for the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging last weekend at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway, Eddie Tafoya Jr. heads east to Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway for this Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series race. Saturday's race will be a tune-up for November's 57th Annual Western World Championship at Mohave Valley. Tafoya, 27, came into the final USCS points race of the season third in the series championship standings. The veteran racer was one of 18 cars that turned up for the race at the track in Bakersfield, California. The Chino Hills, California resident qualified fastest of his group of six cars with a lap of 15.558. That was also the fourth-fastest time overall. In his heat race, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns champion began in fifth and moved forward to finish third. That placed him on the inside of row two for the final 30-lap regular season main event. Going into turn one on the initial start, the pole sitter had issues and ended up stopped by the wall. It was hard to tell if Tafoya clipped the stopped car or not. In fact, Tafoya himself was not sure if contact was made. On the restart, Tafoya was coming from the pole. However, as soon as the green lights came back on, it became clearly evident that he did make contact with the stopped car on the initial go. He slid back into the pack and eventually finished eighth. Despite the finish, he maintained third place in the overall standings in the USCS first season. "I think he (the polesitter) had too much throttle on the start and slid it right through the slick in the middle," Tafoya said of the main event start. "Backed himself into the wall and kind of bounced back. I didn't know if I for sure clipped him but I thought I might have. Based on the way the rest of the race went, it kind of showed that (he clipped the stopped car). My rear end was out of square and the bird cages were all off. I was kind of a sitting duck wherever I went that race." Saturday's USAC/CRA race will be Tafoya's fifth on the longtime Mohave Valley track that is located five minutes from the Colorado River and 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada. His initial outing at the 1/3 mile banked oval ended with his best finish there thus far when he placed third on April 23, 2023. Six months later, he visited again and steered his beautiful #51T to an eighth place result. In 2023, Tafoya paid two visits to Mohave Valley. While his end results did not show it, he was a contender each time. At the start of April, in front of one of the largest crowds in track history, the well-spoken racer qualified third fastest of the 30 cars on hand. He then came from sixth to finish third in his heat. The 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the year was running in the top five in the main event when he slid to a stop in turn one. Being the cause of the red flag, he had to restart at the back of the 22 car field. From that point on, he put on a show, passing more cars than any other driver to finish 12th. Six months later, Tafoya was a contender again working his way into second place. However, his engine began laying down, and he wisely pulled off the track to prevent damage. Sadly, that left him with a 12th-place finish. "I don't know if it is the track shape, or maybe the banking, I am just really confident getting the car in there," Tafoya said on Thursday afternoon while on his way to the race shop to work on the car. "Ever since I was there the first time, I have had a good base setup. I just jell well (there). So, it is really exciting to go back there. I think that is the only track I have been good at every single time. I need to figure out what I am doing there and carry it on to the other places." "Driving-wise, yeah, it is one of my favorite racetracks," Tafoya continued. "You can be really aggressive for most of the night until it slicks off. Even when it was slick last year, I think I was the only one running the top until I got to the front and showed those guys that. It is fun, and it is a racy little place. Hopefully, some moisture stays in the dirt for us." To see Tafoya in action on Saturday, the Mohave Valley Raceway is located at 2750 E. Laguna Rd. in Mohave Valley, Arizona (86440). Gates at the popular track will open at 5:00 p.m. The night's first green flag will wave at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $15.00, and children five and under are free. It is cash only for tickets (no ATMs on site). Concessions, souvenirs, and the beer garden take cash or cards. For more information, the track website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/ and the office phone is (928) 346-6000. For fans who cannot attend the race in person, it will be shown live on pay-per-view at the following link: https://drc.tv/. After this weekend's race, Tafoya will wrap up the USAC/CRA season at the 57th Annual Avanti Windows and Doors Western World Championship at Mohave Valley on November 1st and 2nd. One week later on November 9th, he will be in action for the season finale at Perris Auto Speedway. Friendly Tafoya is always happy to meet the fans in the pits after every race. He will sign autographs, pose for photos, and sell his beautiful 2024 team shirts. For fans who cannot attend the races, the team shirts are available at www.specialty-fasteners.com. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram @eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, Inland Rigging, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its racing program. - FOLLOWING A 10TH PLACE FINISH AT KERN, LOGAN WILLIAMS HEADS TO MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY THIS SATURDAY
(Ontario, CA, October 9, 2024) Talented Flowdynamics racer Logan Williams will hit the home stretch of his 2024 season when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series visits Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway this Saturday night. After this week's show, the 28-year-old racer will only have five races remaining before bringing down the curtain on his 2024 racing campaign. 451244812_7834458623257138_2040436876729346144_n.jpg #5W Logan Williams in action at Perris Auto Speedway. Doug Allen photo. This year has been a breakout season for the Yorba Linda, California driver. After the first race of the season, he was seventh in the series championship standings. That was the only time the pleasant driver has been outside of the top six all season long. He has been in the top five in the standings for the last four months dating back to June 8th. His highest ranking of the year came in week 11 when he was third. Williams comes into this Saturday's race at "Arizona's Baddest Bullring" fifth in the title chase. In his last appearance at the track that is located 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, he turned in the seventh fastest qualifying time of the 28 cars on hand. He closed that night by finishing ninth in the 30-lap main. Prior to this season, Williams had appeared three times on the 1/3 of a mile banked oval located approximately five minutes from the Colorado River. His first appearance came on April 23rd, 2022. In that one, he got caught up in somebody else's mess early in the main and was saddled with a 22nd-place finish. Six months later, he recorded his best Mojave finish when he came home eighth. In 2023, he only journeyed to the track one time and placed 11th. Williams' last time on track came two weeks ago when the USAC/CRA series visited Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, California. That night, he started ninth and finished 10th in the 30-lap main, giving him 13 top 10 finishes in 16 starts this season. To see the popular Williams in action on Saturday, the Mohave Valley Raceway is located at 2750 E. Laguna Rd. in Mohave Valley, Arizona (86440). Gates at the popular track will open at 5:00 p.m. The night's first green flag will wave at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $15.00, and children five and under are free. For more information, the track website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/ and the office phone is (928) 346-6000. Williams will get one week off after Saturday's race before heading to the Imperial Valley Raceway on October 18th and 19th. He will then head back to Mohave Valley for the 57th Annual Western World Championships on November 1st and 2nd before closing the season at Perris Auto Speedway on November 9th. Whenever you get the chance to meet the Flowdynamics drivers in person, be sure to visit them in the pits. They will be glad to sign your autographs, and each of them will have their fine-looking team shirts available. - THUNDERBOWL RACEWAY HOSTS NARC SPRINT CARS FOR RESCHEDULED CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL ON SATURDAY
(10/7/24 - Ben Deatherage) Tulare, CA ... The cars and stars of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are gearing up for their final appearance at Thunderbowl Raceway in 2024 with the highly anticipated running of the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial. This is the last chance to witness the 900+ horsepower machines tear up the monster cushion "claymaker" factory facility this season. "Tulare's been one of my favorite tracks and fits my driving style of running the top where the cushion develops," stated current Rookie of the Year points leader Caeden Steele, who placed third in the last Tulare installment. "We've been getting some good runs this year and just need to step it up and get that first NARC win and I think Tulare would be a great place to do it." The Faria Memorial marks the 20th show of the 65th Anniversary season for the Northern Auto Racing Club and the second trip to the Thunderbowl this year. This event was initially slated for early May before lousy weather washed out the night. Fortunately, the series and the track were able to work it into the schedule before year end. The race is run in memory of two members of the storied Faria family. Chris unfortunately passed away in a farming accident in 1993, and Brian was tragically killed in an automobile crash in early 2006. This is the first time since 2021 that NARC has been a part of the Faria Memorial. The companion divisions for the evening will be the Sprint Car Challenge Tour/Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints and the Western RaceSaver Sprints. Who To Watch The championship has been a nail-biting battle for practically the entire season. Justin Sanders and Cole Macedo have been fiercely competing for the title of King of the West, like two prize fighters. As they head into Tulare, the two have some comparative stats, such as average finishes at the track, with Sanders boasting an average of 12.500 in eight starts and Macedo a 12.333 in three feature showings. The Aromas pilot aboard the Mittry Motorsports #2X has a narrow seven-point advantage ahead of the current runner-up Macedo, from Lemoore, in the Tarlton Motorsports #21X entry. But Sanders is the only one of the two with a podium when he achieved a third in the 2023 Dennis Roth Classic. However, Macedo was fourth on the last visit to the facility, while Sanders was 11th. The current point standings leader won the first of two main events of the Morrie Williams Memorial last weekend, while Macedo won the overall event based on his finishes. Back in May, at Tulare, the above-mentioned Rookie of the Year contender, Steele, showed the Sprint Car world that he was looking for a legit threat to win some races. It was the second time the Easton teenager landed on the podium this season. Other Rookies looking to hit pay dirt include Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, aboard the Keller Motorsports #2K, and Dominic Gorden of Clovis. Gorden is the only one of the trio to score a NARC feature victory this season. The last time the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series visited Tulare, Shane Golobic hoisted the winner's check above his head. It has thus far been the only time that the Matt Wood Racing #17W pilot occupied victory lane in 2024 with the series. But one thing is sure: never sleep on the talents of Shane and his crew chief brother Dustin Golobic, as they are a force to reckon with no matter what's running at the Thunderbowl. D.J. Netto has just one lone NARC win at Tulare in 2015 but would love to be back in victory lane. The last time the Hanford driver was at the famed 1/3-mile clay oval with the series he was tenth. That was the best run with the group for the 2019 tour champ since coming back to the track, where he suffered an injury that nearly ended his career when his collarbone was shattered in late October of 2022. Dominic Scelzi has had much success at "The Bowl" over the years, with three trips to victory lane, including the most recent running of the Faria Memorial in 2021. Look for the two-time NARC champion from Fresno to be on the charge. Some other contenders making the trip to be on the lookout for include 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Rio Oso rising star Landon Brooks in the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X, Benicia's Billy Aton, Nick Parker of Chico, and Jarrett Soares from Gilroy, Jacksonville, Iowa native Austin McCarl in the famed Country Builders Construction #88, Tipton's Dawson Faria, and more! Fan & Competitor Info Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds at 620 South K Street in Tulare, California. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR ENTERS FINAL USCS REGULAR SEASON RACE THIRD IN POINTS
(Chino, CA, October 3, 2024) When the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging wraps up its inaugural regular season this Saturday night, October 5th, at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will come into the fray third in the championship standings. The 27-year-old has made two appearances at the track recording a fourth on June 8th and a ninth on August 31st. Both of those races came while competing with the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Tafoya's last appearance in the USCS Series came on September 14th when he placed seventh in the main event at the Ventura Raceway. That was the second-best result for the Chino Hills, California driver in the USCS this year. It was only superseded by his second-place run with the first-year racing organization at the grand reopening of the Santa Maria Speedway on June 15th. Tafoya's last track appearance came two weeks ago when he placed sixth in the USAC/CRA main event at Perris Auto Speedway. That ran his streak of top-10 finishes in the series to nine straight races. The streak has now stretched over six months. After this week's regular season-ender for the USCS, he will have one race left in the series this season. That will be the sprint car portion of the annual Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway on Thanksgiving weekend. Sandwiched in between now and then, Tafoya can run six races in the USAC/CRA Series. The 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year has already submitted his entry for the prestigious 57th Annual Avanti Windows and Doors Western World Championship at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on November 1st and 2nd. For fans wanting to travel to this week's USCS race at Kern, adult tickets are $25.00. For kids 6-12, it is only $10.00. Children 5 and under are free. Advance tickets are available from the track's website at https://www.kernraceway.com/. Hot laps will begin at approximately 5:00 p.m. with racing at approximately 7:00. The track is located at 13500 Raceway Boulevard in Bakersfield, California. The office phone number and email are (661) 835-1264 mailto:info@kernraceway.com. - NARC NEWSLINE - OCTOBER 1, 2024
NARC NEWSLINE - OCTOBER 1, 2024, By Jim Allen ... Imagine if the NFL played their first 12 games of the season and then took off two months before another game was played? Or just when the baseball pennant races heated up in July, the MLB didn't play another game until October? Well, welcome to the NARC 410 Sprint Car season! The last time we played in the dirt was July 27th at Santa Maria Speedway, a race won by Chase Johnson and the top three in the NARC championship standings somehow managed to crash out or break in three separate incidents. Unpredictable as a WWE match. At that point on the calendar, 18 races were in the books and the excitement and momentum was at a fevered pitch. We had a tight points chase, 12 different winners, four rookie drivers in the top 15, and open wheel competition that has been off the charts. In fact, we still have those things, we just had to fast forward 70-days for the High Limit and World of Outlaws shows to come through. Along those lines, California continues to be a powerhouse and hotbed of creating top national sprint car talent. Of the 15 combined High Limit and Outlaw shows on the West Coast, eight were claimed by California drivers (Michael Kofoid - 3, Carson Macedo - 2, Rico Abreu - 2, Corey Day - 1). Fresno car owner Dennis Roth scored five wins between the two series with Kofoid and Aussie James McFadden. Honorable west coast mention goes to Trey Starks, who scored not one, but two HL feature victories (Grays Harbor & Skagit) helping to prove my point that he is one of the most underrated drivers in the country. Justin Sanders, Shane Golobic, Cole Macedo, and DJ Netto fared the best among the NARC locals with 17 top five finishes combined. Sanders and Golobic both scored a pair of runner-up finishes. Tim Kaeding even nailed down an impressive runner-up finish at Merced Speedway. CHASE JOHNSON: While all that was going on, we have been talking and thinking and praying about Chase Johnson a lot lately. Who would have thought his scenario was even possible? Chase's crash at the High Limit Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway didn't appear to be any worse than others we have witnessed, but the physical damage was painful to read. Chase broke his back in several spots which required a nine-hour surgery. Throw in additional setbacks like a rough bout of pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and a finicky feeding tube and you have a life-changing scenario. The 28-year-old driver, who always possesses a positive outlook and a million-dollar smile, is a fighter and one of the toughest guys we know. After five long weeks in the ICU at UC Davis in Sacramento, Chase had stabilized enough to be airlifted to the Shepard Center in Georgia. It is a highly-renown facility that specializes in spinal cord rehabilitation injuries. We will continue to monitor social media posts from wife Haley Johnson and the Johnson family during this process. On another note: The good news is Chase has medical insurance. The bad news is he has medical insurance. They say that the best insurance to have .., is insurance you never have to use because it seldom pays or covers the enormity of the expenses or allows coverage into premium world-class rehabilitation facilities. However, due to the amazing outpouring of support by fans, friends, and family of Chase, the Shepard Center became a reality and the best option for recovery. It's a super expensive ordeal and he will be there for at least 11 weeks. Please keep those positive vibes, thoughts, and prayers coming for the entire Johnson family, but also continue with the helmet passes, track barbecues, and t-shirt and decal sales. Or contribute to their house-payment program or make donations to the NARC Benevolent Fund and/or the GoFundMe account. His recovery requires a long-term plan of attack. He needs ongoing treatment so that one day soon, he can skip out of that facility under his own power. We know Chase is positive, strong-willed and is willing to fight with every inch of his soul. Please help him in the process. By the way, you can donate to Chase's GoFundMe account at … https://gofund.me/7ddbc02c Want to send Chase a get-well card? Here's the address: Johnny Franklin's Muffler ATTN: Chase Johnson 128 Bellam Blvd San Rafael, CA 94901 United States In hindsight, it's been a rough year on the NARC driver's roster. It closely resembles a weekly NFL injury report. Let's not forget that Ryan Robinson was forced to retire after his violent crash during the Mini Gold Cup back in March. In the good news department, Angelique Bell is almost fully recovered from her fiery June 12th crash at Southern Oregon Speedway. The burns have healed, but she still needs an occasional steroid shot in her vocal cords to get her voice back to 100%. She has managed to keep her sense of humor and upbeat attitude throughout the process. By the way, and this is a big "BY THE WAY," Angelique will be making her second season debut at Hanford on October 5th in a new family-owned race car. We plan to work in an opening ceremony interview with her. Then there was two-time NARC champion Dominic Scelzi, who was hearing church bells ringing in his head after his Super Dirt Cup crash at Skagit. Not to mention rib injuries of the type you would normally get in a fight with a Mike Tyson or Jake Paul. That took almost two months to recover from, but he is back to consuming tacos at his usual pace and frequency, so he is back to normal. Justyn Cox, who is currently third in NARC driver points, is expected to be out for the rest of the season in the Bates-Hamilton 42X with a back injury. He was hurt at a High Limit race, this one at the Douglas County Dirtrack in August. He is trying to nurse a broken and compressed T3 vertebra back into shape. Unfortunately, he will drop completely out of the top ten in points during the healing process. It's been one of those years. CALISTOGA SPEEDWAY: Yes, it's hard to believe, but movement is finally being seen, or at least scheduled, at the Napa County Fairgrounds. There is a Fairgrounds Community Clean Up Day scheduled for October 19th. Unfortunately, that is Trophy Cup weekend so racer participation may be limited. The good news is that there is a buzz at the fairgrounds with the hiring of Shelly Wright as the Fair Revitalization Director. She is a former fair manager at Lakeport and is a fan of motorsports, which is a huge plus for reopening the historic ½ mile oval. Tommy Hunt is excited at the possibilities and feels that the Louie Vermeil Classic should become a reality in 2025. NARC NOTES: Here is a strange fact for you. The October 5th race at Hanford will be the first visit by the NARC sprint cars this season. The first two shows, the Dave Helm Memorial and Peter Murphy Classic rained out. … Although we are not expecting to see Willie Croft at any of our final five NARC events, he will be at the Trophy Cup. Give the 53-year-old driver a proper send off for an entertaining and successful racing career. … Among the drivers who still are looking for a NARC 410 win in '24 include Bud Kaeding, Caeden Steele, Gauge Garcia, Dylan Bloomfield, Nick Parker, Kaleb Montgomery, and Tanner Carrick. … Kalib Henry, who has been enjoying sprint car success racing in the Midwest, will be competing at the next two NARC shows …The numerical stat lines of Justin Sanders and Cole Macedo are almost identical with 80% of the season complete. The only real difference is Sanders has five wins to Macedo's three. There is a three-point premium for winning (42-39), compared to second place. Sanders leads this horse race by only three-points. Stay tuned! … Speaking of identical, Sanders and Macedo both have seven heat race victories this season to lead all NARC drivers. The hot shoe with the most pockets $500 from Kimo's Tropical Car Wash at the year-end banquet. … The NARC top wing wickerbill rule was changed to match the High Limit and WoO rules. … … Gauge Garcia is attempting to zero in on the Williams Roofing season-long Hardcharger title, which pays $1,000 at the banquet. To date, Garcia has advanced 66 cars in the Keller Motorsports sprint car, to lead Nick Parker (57) and Cole Macedo (53). There is no prize for second place. … Special thanks to Ashley Smith, Katie Smith-Williams, Roth Motorsports, EMADCO, Southern Pacific Farms, and Hoosier for their financial support of this Saturday's Morrie Williams Memorial. … Each 20-lap feature pays $3,000 to win and $300 to start., plus a $1,000 bonus to the overall champion. No tire changes are allowed. The intermission between the two mains is about 10-minutes. Only the first race is a NARC points race. The second one is for victory lane glory. … The NARC season finale at Stockton, will feature a racing Legends autograph session. That should kick off around 4:30 p.m. … The upcoming Friday night show (October 25th) at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway will blend asphalt and dirt track events. ARCA will be practicing and qualifying on the ½ mile paved oval in the afternoon, followed by the NARC sprint cars on the dirt oval. … Congrats to Brad Sweet on winning the inaugural High Limit Series championship - something he accomplished with four races still remaining on the HL schedule. NARC BANQUET: The NARC Championship Celebration awards banquet will be held the day after the November 2nd season Tribute to Gary Patterson season finale at the Stockton Dirt Track. The venue is the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, located about 10-minutes from the track. Brookside has hosted the event five-times and is a first-class facility. The brunch, highlight show, NARC Benevolent Fund auction, and awards gets underway at 11:30 p.m. The food is good, and video-producer extraordinaire Mike DeHoogh always puts together entertaining videos. This event is open to not only race teams, sponsors, and promoters, but to race fans as well. For more information contact Jim Allen. So, with all that, the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series will finish with a flurry of October events. It's October 5th at Kings Speedway for the Morrie Williams Memorial Twin-20's and October 12th for the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial at the Thunderbowl. A rare October doubleheader takes place on October 25-26th with a Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway October Classic and the Anthony Simone Classic back at Hanford. The season ends up with a Triple Crown event at the Tribute to Gary Patterson on November 2nd. The Stockton Dirt Track will host the NARC 410, SCCT 360, and Hunt Wingless Series season finales. Coming to you live from Auburn, CA. Get well Chase Johnson. See ya!

- NARC SPRINT CARS ARE BACK IN ACTION SATURDAY AT THE MORRIE WILLIAMS MEMORIAL IN HANFORD
(9/30/24 - Ben Deatherage) Hanford, California ... After a long summer break, the 900+ horsepower fire-breathing monster machines of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are set to return to battle on Saturday, October 5th, for the Morrie Williams Memorial. For fans from all over the Golden State craving heart-stopping and ground-pounding action at Kings Speedway, you don't want to miss this one, as there will be not one but two 20-lap features on the card. The Morrie Williams Memorial, a unique event run in honor of iconic California car owner Morrie Williams, features a format that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Established in 2020, the event runs twin main events, with an overall champion crowned at night's end. The first feature lineup is based on qualifying and heat race finishes. In contrast, the second main event is a complete inversion of the finishing order of the finish from the initial one. So, a driver that finished towards the back of the opening main could win the concluding feature. This twist adds an extra layer of excitement and unpredictability to the event. Past overall champions include Justin Sanders (2021 & 2023), Tim Kaeding (2020), and Corey Day (2022). "We're proud to be able to continue this twin feature event with the chance of two different winners on the same night," commented Ashley Smith, Morrie Williams' son-in-law and crew chief of the Williams Motorsports #0. "Morrie always enjoyed watching cars coming from the back and powering through for a win. This is a good way of honoring the legacy he put out there during his tenure as a Sprint Car owner over multiple decades." Contributing sponsors for the event include EMADCO Disposal, Roth Motorsports, Southern Pacific Farms, Bandey & Associates, Alviso Rock, and Hoosier Racing Tires. What makes these folks unique is that they have helped since the beginning of the event. The companion division for the evening will be the Southern California Dwarf Car Association. Who To Watch Justin Sanders will look to create some breathing room in the super tight championship for the King of the West title. The Aromas pilot leads both the point standings and the current win list with five victories. The driver of the Mittry Motorsports #2X entry is the defending event champion and earned his lone NARC win at Kings last year. Cole Macedo returns to his stomping grounds as the Lemoore native will look to add another NARC trophy to the cabinet for Tarlton Motorsports. Already a winner three times this season, there's no doubt the battle for the championship will be exciting as he currently trails by only three points after 18 NARC events. In the last race Macedo ran with NARC at Kings, he was second in the final feature of the Morrie. 2017 NARC champion Bud Kaeding will look to build off a pair of fourth-place finishes. No doubt it would be a sentimental win for the Campbell chauffeur as he raced for Morrie Williams for several seasons, as noted above. Since 2000, he has only won once at Kings with NARC, and that was in 2012. Justyn Cox of Roseville Easton teenager Caeden Steele has been close to opening his winning account with NARC. What better place to do it than on your "home turf"? Steele did compete at last year's Morrie Williams event and will look to improve off a Kings Speedway career-best twelfth. He still leads the charge in the Rookie of the Year Award race. Aboard the Dave and Debbie Vertullo #83V-fielded entry Bloomfield is also hunting for his first NARC win. The young man from Oakley has shown some speed over the last couple of seasons at the Hanford 3/8-mile oval and has a pair of Top 10 finishes at the facility, including a career-best sixth the previous year. Two-time NARC title winner Dominic Scelzi has won two Morrie Williams features over 2021 and 2020, respectively, but has yet to win the overall title. The Fresno phenom has five career NARC wins at Kings and the win in 2020 was aboard a Williams Motorsports car. A gaggle of other Golden State gassers will look to claim NARC glory on Saturday night. 2019 NARC champion D.J. Netto will no doubt be a favorite as the Hanford hot shoe won the second leg of the Morrie in 2023. Tim Kaeding would love to win his second career Morrie Williams championship. The San Jose driver and two-time NARC champion won the inaugural edition in 2020 aboard the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X and will be behind the wheel of the Williams Motorsports #0 in this year's edition. Another notable is Fremont's Shane Golobic in the Matt Wood Racing #17W, who you can never count out of winning a marquee event. Two other young guns from the Central Valley that are also in the hunt for Rookie of the Year honors are Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, in the Keller Motorsports #2K, and Dominic Gorden from Clovis. Also expected to compete will be Billy Aton of Benicia, Chico traveler Nick Parker, Gilroy's Jarrett Soares, Sacramento's Kalib Henry, Landon Brooks of Yuba City, Dawson Faria from nearby Tipton, Kaleb Montgomery making the journey from Templeton, and more! Fan & Competitor Info Kings Speedway is located at the Kings Fairgrounds at 801 S 10th Avenue in Hanford, CA. - LOGAN WILLIAMS TIED FOR FOURTH HEADING INTO SATURDAY'S KERN USAC/CRA RACE
(Ontario, CA, September 26, 2024) Flowdynamics racer Logan Williams will be back in action this Saturday when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visit the Kevin Harvick Kern Raceway for the "Bakersfield Bash." The Yorba Linda, California-based driver enters the race tied for fourth in the series point standings with seven races to go in the season. Saturday will mark the season's third stop for the talented 28-year-old at Kern. The first two trips to the track located in Bakersfield have provided the friendly driver with a mixed bag of results. On June 8th, he placed second on the 1/3 mile oval. That was his best finish of the season. Four weeks ago, in his last appearance at the track located in the shadow of the paved half-mile oval, mechanical ills knocked him out of the race, and he came home 18th. That was only the third time he finished out of the top 10 in 2024. Last Saturday night, on the same track he won the 2023 Young Guns Championship, Perris Auto Speedway, Williams, kicked off the night by qualifying 10th fastest in the good-looking #5W. A famous West Coast Williams sprint car racing family member, he began and finished his 10-lap heat race in fourth. In a wild 30-lap main that saw numerous yellow and red flags due to crashes, Williams began the race in 10th. He was one of the few racers in the event who managed to stay out of trouble. Staying out of the chaos, he appeared to have a chance to finish in the top five for the seventh time this season. However, he rolled to a stop in turn two late in the race during a yellow flag period. The car had run out of fuel. After restarting in the rear, Williams drove back to the 10th spot before the checkered flag waved. "We ran out of fuel," Williams said after the race. "Something was wrong with the fuel system. We went through 34 gallons when usually we go through 25." Williams emerged from the race tied for fourth in the USAC/CRA championship standings. He is 46 points behind the third-place driver, who happens to be his brother Austin. After this week's Kern race, Williams and the rest of the USAC/CRA stars and cars have the October 5th weekend off. However, his schedule gets busy after that. On October 12th, he will be competing at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway. The following week on the 18th & 19th, he will be racing at the Imperial Valley Raceway near the southeast corner of California. Williams will return to Mohave Valley on November 1st and 2nd for the 57th Western World Championship presented by Avanti Windows and Doors. One week later, on November 9th, he will finish the 2024 campaign at Perris Auto Speedway. Spectator gates for this Saturday's race will open at 5:00 p.m., with racing at 7:00. Adult tickets are $25.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $10.00, and children 5 and under are free. The track is located at 15300 Raceway Boulevard in Bakersfield. Advance tickets are available through the track website at www.kernraceway.com. The office phone number is 616-835-1264. Whenever you get the chance to meet Williams in person, be sure to see him in the pits. He will gladly sign autographs, and have his fine-looking team shirts available. - ALERT DRIVING SAW TAFOYA EXTEND USAC/CRA TOP 10 FINISH STREAK TO NINE AT PERRIS
(Chino, CA, September 25, 2024) Eddie Tafoya Jr. survived most of the chaos in last Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car race and came home sixth at Perris Auto Speedway. The finish was his ninth straight top-10 result in the series. The last time Tafoya, 27, did not place in the top 10 was in a USAC/CRA race over six months ago. That came when he finished 12th in a rain-shortened event at Arizona's Cocopah Speedway on March 23rd. His best outing in the nine-race streak came on June 8th when he placed fourth at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. Last week on the famous Perris half-mile oval, Tafoya was strong through the preliminary part of the night. The Chino Hills, California-based racer qualified in the upper half of the field with the ninth-fastest time of 17.012. In his eight-lap heat race, he started and finished fourth. If he looked strong in the prelims, he was more powerful in the 30-lap main. Tafoya performed well on a night where self-preservation meant as much as anything else in the feature. In a race that looked a lot like the track's popular Night of Destruction with several cars destroyed, he mostly steered through the chaos. After starting ninth, his only encounter came on a restart when several cars in front of him got into a tangle "Yeah, I saw a couple people get sideways in front of me and everyone started checking up, and I checked up," Tafoya said. "I got hit from behind. I did like a full 360 pirouette in the air. I thought I was going over. Luckily it landed back on all four, and everything was still bolted together. I got lucky there." Tafoya had to take the eye-catching #51T to the back for the restart. From there, he moved forward. Deftly avoiding some more questionable maneuvers, he drove all the way back through the pack to finish sixth. It was his best Perris finish thus far in 2024. One of the keys to finishing in the top 10 for Tafoya is staying out of trouble. He certainly knows that you cannot do well if you do not finish the race. He has done well with that throughout his career. "I am pretty aware of what is going on around me and looking ahead," the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year said when asked about his string of top 10s. "I don't know if it comes from dirt bikes or all the other racing I have done. Seems like a lot of these guys are just racing the guys right in front of them when there is a whole other race going on. It definitely helps me out being able to avoid stuff." Tafoya is pleased with his runs in the top, but like most racers, he wants more. "It is nice being in the top 10," Tafoya said. "I would just like to qualify a little better and be up in the mix. It seems like I can qualify really close to the top everywhere but Perris. I definitely need to figure something out there. I felt good Saturday (in qualifying). I got a little loose on my fast lap, the second lap. There was a hole down the straightaway that I got into, and it got me a little light. That is probably the best I felt in a long time. It just sucks that I could not put it together." In addition to his nine top 10s in USAC/CRA competition, Tafoya has a pair of top 10s in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series presented by Inland Rigging. The first was his best overall finish of the year when he placed second at Santa Maria on June 15th. The other came two weeks ago when he drove to a seventh at the Ventura Raceway. Next up for Tafoya will be a USCS race at Kern on October 5th. - BRENT SEXTON PLACES 11TH IN USAC/CRA MAIN AT PERRIS ON HIS MOM'S BIRTHDAY
(Lakeside, CA, September 24, 2024) A festive mood greeted visitors to the Sexton Gatlin Racing pit area when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visited Perris Auto Speedway last Saturday night. The crew and drivers were celebrating the birthday of Brent Sexton's mom and co-team owner, Nita Gatlin. On the night, Brent steered his eye-catching #44 to an 11th-place finish in the 30-lap main event. On the pleasant last day of summer, when the daytime temperature failed to reach 100 degrees at the track for the first time at a PAS sprint car race since April, Brent was accompanied by his talented 20-year-old son, Grant. Besides them, 20 of the other fastest traditional sprint cars on the West Coast were on hand for an evening of 410 sprint car series racing. Grant got the ball rolling for SGR when he timed in 14th fastest of the cars on hand with a lap of 17.343. Brent, 52, was not far behind when he stopped the track clocks at 17.590. That was just under a quarter second slower than his son. That is very good considering he was using a 360 engine and he was pitted against a powerful field of 410s. It was the 18th best time of the night. For Grant, the 2021 POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car champion, his lap placed him on the outside of row one in the second 10-lap heat race. Ultimately, the talkative racer ended up in the same second-place position as he started. Brent also started on the front of his heat, and after scrapping up front early on, he rolled past the checkers in sixth. When the 22-car field pulled onto the track for the 30-lap finale, Grant was on the outside of the seventh row, and Brent was outside row nine. Unfortunately, Grant's time in the race did not last long. A wild lap-two crash involving several cars in front of him gathered him in. His car and four others suffered major damage and were knocked out of the race. Sadly, that meant he ended up 21st. Brent managed to steer his way through the crash and several others in the remainder of the race. With the numerous tangles throughout the night, that was a feat in itself. By the end of the 30th lap, he improved his position by six spots to finish 11th. That was his second-best result in the USAC/CRA Series this season. It was also his fourth best of the year overall in a full-sized sprint car, as he has ninth-place finishes in both USAC and the USCS. He also has a 10th in USCS competition. Brent left Perris 13th in points, with Grant 14th. In addition, Brent is third in the Rookie of the Year chase and is just 35 points out of second. This Saturday night, September 28th, rookie Braydin Collie will be making his fourth start in the SGR #44 in the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series. The teen has finished in the top 10 in his first three starts placing fifth and ninth at Barona and sixth at Santa Maria. The last time the USCS ran wingless was at Barona on May 25th, and the car Collie was driving won the main event with Brent at the wheel. To see Collie in action at Barona, gates will open at noon, with racing at 6:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. For kids 7 to 17, admission is $10.00. Seniors, Military, and EMTs also get in for $10.00. Children 6 and under are free. Family packs of two adults and two kids are $50.00. Parking is free. The Barona Speedway is located at 1754 Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside, California. The track website is https://baronaspeedway.com/, and the phone number is (619) 994-6560. Sexton Gatlin Racing would like to thank the following companies for making the 2024 season possible.
