- AFTER BRENT SEXTON'S CAREER BEST 410 SPRINT CAR FINISH, SEXTON GATLIN RACING HEADS TO ARIZONA
(Lakeside, CA, April 7, 2025) Veteran driver Brent Sexton made the long trek to Ocean Speedway a memorable one when he recorded the best finish in his 410 sprint car career by placing fifth in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series 30-lap main event in Watsonville, California. Twenty-four hours later, he finished 12th when the second-year series made its first appearance at the Merced Speedway. This Friday and Saturday, April 11th and 12th, the veteran driver and his youngest son, Grant, are heading to the Central Arizona Raceway for two nights of racing with the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Sexton first raced a full-sized sprint car with the USAC/CRA Series two years ago. However, there was a huge difference between that car and the one he is driving today. For those initial races in 2023 and all of 2024, he was powered by a 360 engine. At times, that was like taking a gun to a knife fight as he was competing against full fields of 410 sprint cars. While he held his own, there was only so much he could do, and at times, that was frustrating. Sexton, who is a three-time lightning sprint car champion, decided to up his game for 2025. He purchased a 410 engine to run with both USAC/CRA and the USCS. "Somebody compared it to some of the motorcross stuff we used to do saying it was like comparing a two-stroke to a four stroke," the veteran driver said in mid-March. "It is definitely an eye opener and I give respect to the guys who have been driving those (410s) for so long. I love it. It takes more throttle control. Not that I had much throttle control before. It is definitely a discipline thing for sure." For Sexton to record his best 410 finish at Ocean Speedway was kind of surprising. It was his fourth start with the more powerful engine. What was unexpected was the fact that he did it at a track he had never been on during his long racing career. The likeable racer started the weekend by qualifying third fastest in his group at 13.375. That time was also good enough for 10th best in the 19-car field. He started fourth, and led much of his heat race before ending up second. So far, so good, but the main event on the famous Santa Cruz County oval would end up being the icing on an extremely sweet cake. Starting seventh, he was immediately in the thick of the battle. Using the top and the bottom of the track, he actually moved all the way up to fourth at one point. Likewise, he also drifted back to eighth or ninth. Sexton kept his focus straight and by the time the race ended, he was fifth at the checkers. "It was so much fun," he said about the race. "I loved the track, and I love my 410. I am having the time of my life. To finish fifth the first time ever at the track, that is cool. I am happy." After Watsonville, it was on to Merced, a track Sexton is more familiar with from his lightning sprint car days. However, things did not go quite as well, and he finished 12th in the A main event. This Friday and Saturday, the Central Arizona Speedway will be a new track for SGR drivers Brent and Grant. Recently renovated, the speedy oval is now a showpiece track that will be hosting the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars for the first time. Located in Casa Grande on the Pinal County Fairgrounds at 512 S 11 Mile Corner Road, the track is about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson. Adult tickets for the shows are $25.00 each night. Active military and seniors get in for $20.00. For young adults ages 12-17, it is $15.00. Kids 11 and under are free. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. each night with racing at 7:00. - SEXTON GATLIN RACING HEADS NORTH FOR TWO RACES THIS WEEKEND
(Lakeside, CA, March 24, 2025) Lakeside, California's Sexton Gatlin Racing will wrap up a busy month of March with a trek to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville on the 28th and the Merced Speedway on the 29th for races in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The trek north will take SGR 454 miles from its San Diego County base for the Friday portion of the weekend doubleheader. On Saturday, the team will head 100 miles south from Watsonville to Merced for Saturday's race on the Doug Lockwood-promoted track. SGR had last weekend off after competing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Fairgrounds on the 14th and 15th of the month. The two nights of racing at the track located just north of the USA-Mexico border brought a mixed bag of results for the longtime Southern California team. The Friday portion of the show at the track, which old-time fans still refer to as El Centro, started off well for the team when 20-year-old Grant clicked off the seventh fastest time in the 28-car field. Even though he was less than a half second slower, Brent timed in 19th best. Brent's night ended on the first lap of the third heat race when he was battling for the lead. Starting on the outside of the front row, contact with the car on the inside sent him into a series of nasty flips as he came off turn two. He climbed out of the car unscathed, but the tumble ended up finishing his car for the night. "I am not sure after watching the replay," Sexton answered when asked what triggered the flip. " After I watched the replay, someone may have caught the inside berm and caught my left rear, but I do not know. It is hard to say, really. We could have been ready, but with just two classes there, time was short. I just figured why push it with a two-day show. Let's focus on getting it fixed right and be ready for the next night. It really was not damaged too badly for as hard as I flipped. Front axle, bent the torque tube, and rear bumper." Grant ended up sixth in the heat. That sent him to the B main, where he needed to finish sixth or better to continue to the A. He did so comfortably by finishing third. That put the young driver in the 30-lap finale. However, car issues plagued him, and he finished 19th. With the flip in his past, the Saturday portion of the show saw Brent turn in his best USAC qualifying effort to date. His 13.389 was the 11th fastest lap of the 26 cars on hand. He followed that by competing in the toughest heat race of the weekend. The veteran racer fought hard and managed to hold the final transfer spot until the last lap when he slipped back to sixth. That outcome placed him on the front row of the B main, and getting more used to the 410 each night, he brought it home third to earn a ticket to his first USAC/CRA main event of the year. In the main, the wily veteran started 11th. After some see-sawing forward and backward in the race, he ended up 14th. While he wanted more, he was happy with the night, and he loves life as a 410 sprint car driver. "It was my best qualifying to date with USAC." Sexton proudly stated. "I am kind of setting some goals for this year, like qualifying better with USAC, because that is everything. Finish a little better than last year. Last year, I was usually 18th to 24th. This year, I want to get near the top 10. I would like to have finished closer to the top 10 at Imperial, but I will take the 14th place." "I do actually," Sexton continued when asked if he felt this year is like a rejuvenation of his career. "I am having a lot of fun. Especially with this 410. It is all a learning curve, jumping up to a 410. I am enjoying it." San Diego's AJ Bender, who has driven SGR cars and won in the past in lightning competition, jumped into Grant's car on Saturday to see what it was like to wheel a Triple X. However, the driver who finished fourth in USAC/CRA points in 2024, was feeling the car out for the first time, and he exited the A main early. "I am looking forward to this weekend," Sexton offered about racing at Ocean and Merced. "We have run Merced with the lightning sprint, but I have never been to Ocean before. We will have to figure out gearing and all of that stuff. Hopefully, we will come out of the box strong." To see SGR in action this weekend, the Ocean Speedway is located at 2601 E. Lake in Watsonville, California. For times and ticket information, call the track office at 831-688-7223. On Saturday at the Merced Speedway, gates will open at 5:00 p.m., and racing will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for those 17 and older are $25.00. Juniors, aged 11-16, get in for $10.00. Tickets for kids 6-10 are $5.00. Children 5 and under are free. The track is located at 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Merced. The track website is http://www.mercedspeedway.net/ and the office phone number is 209-600-8382. The final SGR racer on the weekend at Imperial was eager teen Braydin Collie of El Cajon, California. Racing on a track where he recorded a second-place finish in 2024, things did not go quite as well on the weekend with the SoCal Lightning Sprint Cars. On Friday, he looked impressive in winning his heat race, but he flipped on the back stretch during lap three of the main event and finished 11th. Twenty-four hours later, the talented teen placed 11th again when the center splines on the right rear stripped out. Big news from Sexton Gatling Racing is the fact that they are going to be a CSI certified shock dealer for the West Coast. The team bought Mel Murphy's shock dyno and crew member David Bezio flew out to Indy on Monday to study with CSI in Indiana. "We will be open right away (when Bezio gets back)," Sexton commented. "I have the dyno and we have been doing our own shocks. David is there taking the course so we can be a certified dealer. We are excited about that." - AFTER GOOD RUNS AT VENTURA, SEXTON GATLIN RACING HEADS TO IMPERIAL FOR FRIDAY/SATURDAY DOUBLEHEADER
(Lakeside, CA, March 12, 2025) After a successful run in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series last Saturday night at the Ventura Raceway, Sexton Gatlin Team drivers Grant Sexton and his father Brent will head to the Imperial Valley Raceway for a pair of Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car races this Friday and Saturday. A total of 26 cars showed up for the USCS portion of the program at the track that is located adjacent to the breaking waves of the Pacific Ocean. Brent turned in a lap of 13.313 on his first night running a 410 engine. That was good enough for the fourth-best time in his group of eight drivers. It was the 16th fastest of the 26 cars on hand. Grant broke a steering arm in his hot lap session and did not get a qualifying time. He began at the back of his heat, and proceeded to slap the back straight wall, ripping the Jacob's ladder out. That dropped the whole rear end out of the car and left the torque tube standing up like a tee-ball tee in turn two. Needless to say, he did not complete the heat. The team thrashed to replace the drive train and the rear end in Grant's car. Despite their best efforts, they could not get the car ready to run before the B main. It looked like the 20-year-old driver's night was over at that point. However, attrition for others netted him an invitation to start at the back of the A main. From there, the 2023 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year put on a show. Starting shotgun on the 24-car field, Grant excited the crowd with a brave ride through the pack. He steered the beautiful #22 all the way up to fifth before a brush with another driver on the final restart pushed him back to eighth. That is where the talented third generation driver finished in the 30-lapper. For Brent, it was a big night. Having competed in lightning sprint cars for decades and a 360 against the 410s in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series the past two years, Saturday was his debut in a 410 and he looked good. After the aforementioned qualifying effort, he started fourth in his heat race on the tight 1/5 mile track. He worked his way up to third, which earned him the 12th starting spot in the 24-car main event field. "I started 12th and I went back five or six positions just because of me being a throttle jockey," he joked about his first time racing a 410. "Through attrition, I finished 13th." "Somebody compared it to some of the motorcross stuff we used to do saying it was like comparing a two-stroke to a four stroke," the three time lightning sprint champion said. "It is definitely an eye opener and I give respect to the guys who have been driving those (410s) for so long. I love it. It takes more throttle control. Not that I had much throttle control before. It is definitely a discipline thing for sure." Dating back to 2022, the Imperial Valley Raceway has supplied Sexton Gatlin Racing with a lot of successes. Racing with the POWRi Southwest Lightning Series at the Midwinter Fair in 2022, Brent and his oldest son Dalton won the two main events. At another POWRi show that October, Brent again collected the winner's trophy. Five months later Brent kicked off the 2023 POWRi campaign with fourth and second place finishes before visiting victory circle and placing third in the final two POWRi lightning races at the track. Grant notched a fifth place finish in an open 360/410 race that October. In 2024, the Sexton's again launched their racing campaign at Imperial with Brent taking second and fourth in the lightning sprint mains. Grant ended up 5th and 9th in the open comp. 360/410 class over the two nights. Last October when USAC/CRA visited the track that is just north of the USA/Mexico border, Grant was 11th and 21st, while Brent made one of the mains and placed 13th. In addition to Grant and Brent racing their 410s this weekend at Imperial, second-year lightning sprint driver Braydin Collie will compete in the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series portion of the program. Last season, rookie Collie made seven lightning sprint starts. His best finish was a second at Imperial on October 19th. Racing will start at 6:00 p.m. each night at Imperial. Admission to the fair is $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for seniors and children. Parking at the fair is $10.00. Admission to the races is $10.00 for ages 18 and over and free for everyone 17 and under. The Imperial Valley Raceway is located on the Imperial Valley Fairgrounds at 200 E. 2nd Street in Imperial, California (92251). For those who cannot make it to Imperial, both nights will be streamed live online with a subscription to Flo Racing. The Lakeside, California team will wrap up a busy month of March with a trek to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville on the 28th and the Merced Speedway on the 29th. - SEXTON GATLIN RACING COMES IN FULL FORCE SATURDAY AT VENTURA
(Lakeside, CA, March 5, 2025) For the first time in 2025, Sexton Gatlin Racing will have both of its team cars in competition this Saturday night in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at the Ventura Raceway. It will be the second race of the season for 20-year-old Grant Sexton and the first for his father Brent. Spectator gates at the track located adjacent to the beach on the Ventura County Fairgrounds will open at 3:00 p.m. Kris Kornder's green flag will start the first race at 5:30. Grant, the 2023 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year and the 2021 POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Car Champion, kicked off his 2025 campaign when the USAC/CRA Series visited Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 15th. The talkative driver turned in the 13th fastest time - 14.398 - in the 31 car field. Sexton's fastest lap on the banked 1/3 of a mile clay oval that is located minutes from the Colorado River, placed him third, inside row two, for his 10-lap heat. The race transferred the top four to the A main. The young driver ended up fifth and had to go to the 12-lap B main. Grant was met by 13 other combatants in the 12-lap B main. Six of the drivers would advance to the A main and the other eight would load their cars onto the trailer for the ride home. Grant ran strong, finished fourth and snatched one of the coveted transfer spots into the A where he started 13th. Early on, the veteran racer was going good in the 30-lapper. However, he clipped an infield tractor tire. He continued racing but at the first yellow flag, he anxiously pulled into the work area to see if he had bent the steering arm. When the crew cleared Grant to go, he rushed back onto the track for the restart. He was moving forward again. However, his evening came to an abrupt end when he was collected by a spinning car. Unfortunately, the right front wheel was ripped off his pretty #22 and he was done for the night with a 20th place finish. Grant has reason to be optimistic heading into this week's USCS race. In 2024, he raced with the first year group six times. Four times he placed in the top 10. One of those races, June 1st at Ventura, he had a season best third place finish. Grant's father Brent, a three-time Lightning Sprint Car champion, will be making his 2025 debut on Saturday. He missed the race at Mohave and last week's race at Perris (Grant missed the Perris race as well while out of town for work) waiting for his Kistler 410 engine to be ready. Last season, Brent finished third in the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year chase. The elder Sexton competed at Ventura three times with the USCS in 2024. His best result was a 10th on June 1st. Adult tickets for Saturday's race at Ventura are $25.00. Seniors 60, military with ID, and students with id get in for $22.00. Kids 12 and under are admitted free when they are accompanied by an adult. The track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Boulevard (93001). The website is http://venturaraceway.com/, and the office phone number is (805) 648-RACE. After Saturday, it will be a short week for the Sexton Gatlin Racing Team. Both of the Lakeside, California based racers will head to the Imperial Valley Raceway for rounds #3 and #4 in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series during the California Mid-Winter Fair. In addition, they will be taking the SGR lightning sprint car for sophomore driver Braydin Collie to drive in the opening two rounds of the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series. - AFTER AN UNCEREMONIOUS END AT MOHAVE, JEFF DYER IS READY FOR SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
(Yucca Valley, CA, February 27, 2025) After an earlier-than-wanted exit from the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series season opener at the Mohave Valley Raceway last weekend, Jeff Dyer has made repairs and will be ready for round #2 of the series this Saturday, March 1st, at Perris Auto Speedway. It will be his first race at Perris since a nasty turn two crash at the track left him with a broken arm and a concussion last July. Driving the Dyer Motorsports/Cal Smith Racing #39 at Mohave, Dyer, who resides in Yucca Valley, California, was one of the 31 cars on hand on the banked 1/3 of a mile oval. The popular driver, who is a California Highway Patrol Officer when he is not sliding around clay racetracks, timed in 18th fastest with a lap of 14.679. That lap put Dyer on the front row of the second 10-lap heat race of the night. Things started well enough in the heat, but they did not end the way the veteran racer wanted. "We qualified decent and were in a transfer spot in the heat race," Dyer sighed. "The car started missing real bad so we pulled it in. We thought the mag. went bad. We tried to change the ignition box, but we had no luck as we did not have enough time between the heat race and the semi. So, we went back out and tried to limp it into a transfer." The hope of limping it into a transfer in the B was quickly dashed. Dyer got involved in what he called "a little incident" that ended up with him getting the yellow #39 upside down. The flip could have been a lot worse. It broke the right rear bird cage and the shock arm. That was it and as Dyer happily chimed, "it was not too bad." From his garage on Wednesday night, Dyer was wrapping up the maintenance on the car so it would be ready for Saturday's "Dirt War" at Perris. While the tangle ended his night, Dyer was happy with the first race on his refreshed engine. "The engine ran really good early on," he said. "We think it was an electrical problem. We put a new ignition box in it so that should hopefully solve the issue." After Saturday at Perris, Dyer will return to USAC/CRA and SoCal Lightning Sprint races on March 14th and 15th during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway. It will be rounds #3 & 4 for the USAC/CRA Series. The races will be the opening two events for the SCLS and Dyer's first lightning competition since a second place finish in a California Lightning Sprint Car Series race last October at Ventura. "I am planning on doing it at Imperial," he said of racing his 410 and his lightning sprint at the Mid-Winter Fair. "I really have not had time to work on the lightning sprint yet, but it is pretty much ready to go. I have just been real busy." Spectator gates at the famous Perris half-mile clay oval will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will get underway at 7:00. Tickets for Saturday's race are $35.00 for those ages 13 and over. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids 6-12, it is $10.00, and children five and under are free. With a small convenience fee, advance tickets are available online at tix.com or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not want to purchase advance tickets, plenty will be available at the ticket window on race night. The fairgrounds charge $20.00 for parking. The Perris Auto Speedway is conveniently located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of the Southern California Fair, in nearby Riverside County. Take the 215 freeway. Exit at the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds. For directions online, the address to enter is 18700 Lake Perris Drive, and the zip code is 92571. Stand by for a big announcement coming from Dyer Motorsports within the next few weeks. In 2025, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyer on track. Straight Time Stirrups, Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com. - JAKE SWANSON RETURNS HOME TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
(Perris, CA, February 26, 2025) Fresh off a win in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at the Mohave Valley Raceway last Saturday night, Southern California native Jake Swanson plans on being in three places when he jets back to the "Golden State" this week. Those three places are the drive-through window at an In N' Out Burgers, Mexican restaurants, and, most importantly, the victory circle at Perris Auto Speedway. The past Anaheim resident, who is now based out of Indiana, will be taking on the stars from the USAC/CRA series for the second week in a row. In addition to the powerful 410 sprint cars, the PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprints will also be in action along with the PASSCAR Street Stocks and Factory Stocks. Saturday's show will be the first sprint car race at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval since last November. Three weeks ago, on February 8th, the series was slated to open its 21st season at the track. However, persistent rain heading into that date left the infield looking like a mini version of nearby Lake Perris. That left track and series officials with no choice but to postpone the race, which will now be made up on November 1st. At Mohave, 31-year-old Swanson drove for the powerhouse Inland Rigging Team owned by Tom and Christy Dunkel. He will drive the same #17X car this week. It will be on the track where he cut his sprint car teeth when he captured the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year title 13 years ago and where he scored his first USAC National Sprint Car Series win in an Oval Nationals preliminary in 2021. "They definitely have some of the best equipment out there," said Swanson, who first steered an Inland Rigging car for the Dunkel's in 2024. "He has put together a world-class operation when it comes to a sprint car team. They have the right people in place. The people who maybe do not have all of the experience are being trained in the right way. It is really cool to be a part of a program for somebody who really, genuinely cares about seeing it succeed and they are willing to do whatever it takes to do it in the right way." "They have entrusted me to work on the car a lot, and they have entrusted Jimmy May and Charlie Butcher to work on the cars. They have done a great job in training Aiden (the Dunkel's son). He is a young kid, but he is learning really, really quick. To see the amount of notes he makes when I am in town is pretty impressive. There are a handful of others, and everybody works really hard." "I couldn't be more excited," Swanson enthused about coming back to race where his sprint car career started. "I always love coming back to Perris. I always tell people that, in my opinion, it is the greatest racetrack in the country. It puts on some of the greatest races in all of the country. The fans are lucky to have that and watch the CRA stuff. I just wish we could share it to more of the country." While the quick trip west will mostly be about racing, Swanson has some yens to settle while in the Southland. "I pretty much have a strict diet of tacos and In N' Out in California," he laughed when asked what he looks forward to when he returns to So Cal. "I love the beach, but I don't get there very often. The Mexican food is definitely top tier on my list." Swanson, who is as busy off the track as he is on, plans to contest the entire USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series in 2025. He got off to a fine start in that series two weeks ago in Florida. In six races, driving his own car that features Inland Rigging as its prime sponsor, he placed in the top 10 five times with a best finish at the Ocala Speedway on the 12th. The results will see him eighth in points when the series picks up at Indiana's Paragon Speedway on April 4th. As well as racing in the National Sprint Car Series, Swanson will steer a car owned by past racer and noted car builder Bob East in the USAC Silver Crown Series. His first run in that car will come at the Terre Haute Action Track on April 13th. And when time permits, much to the chagrin of the USAC/CRA regulars, he will be back in the Inland Rigging #17X whenever he can get a break from his busy National schedule. That includes this Saturday at Perris, and the March 14th and 15th series show during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway. In addition to 50-plus nights of National Sprint Cars and the Silver Crown ride, Swanson also hopes to get in some wing racing this year. He still does not have anything ironed out yet, but he has some plans in the works to do that. However, he has been so busy building up his USAC national team and other businesses that he has not yet set anything in stone. After last week's rainout, sprint cars and stock cars will begin their 2025 season at The PAS when the track hosts the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series along with the PAS Young Gun & Senior Sprints and the PASSCAR Street and Factory Stocks on March 1st. - GRANT SEXTON OPENS HIS 2025 SEASON SATURDAY AT THE MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY
(Lakeside, CA, February 20, 2022) Grant Sexton, the 2023 Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Rookie of the Year, will launch his 2024 racing campaign this Saturday night, February 22nd, when the series visits Arizona's Mojave Valley Raceway. His father, Brent, who finished third in last year's Rookie of the Year chase, has been forced out of this weekend's race due to a mechanical issue. Grant, who will turn 21 in July, is looking to rebound from a hard sophomore year in the toughest non-wing sprint car series west of the Mississippi. In his Rookie of the Year season, he had four top-10 finishes and one top-five. His best finish that year was a fifth at Bakersfield on June 24th. Last season, he was plagued by bad luck throughout the USAC/CRA campaign. Several occasions saw him being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting tangled up in somebody else's mess. Thus, he only placed in the top-10 once. That was a sixth at Perris. The tough year saw the third-generation racer, who placed eighth in the 2023 standings, end up 16th in 2024. In his Rookie of the Year run, Sexton made two starts on the banked Mohave Valley 1/3 of a mile clay oval that is located about five minutes from the Colorado River. The first one was on May 6th, and he placed sixth. Five months later he ended up 20th. Last April at Mohave, he finished third in his heat on the "Copper State" track. In the 30-lap main, he put on the best show of the night. After starting 21st, the talkative driver sliced and diced his way up to 11th on the tricky surface. That earned him the Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger award for passing more cars than any other driver in the race. Unfortunately, things did not go quite so well at last year's late-season Western World Championships on the Arizona track. Persistent brake problems plagued his #22 car both nights. He finished 26th on Friday and 23rd on Saturday. The young but experienced veteran driver fared better in the inaugural season of the Inland Rigging Ultimate Sprint Car Series in 2024. He made six starts and recorded four top ten finishes. Amongst them were fifth and third place results. Despite running a limited schedule with the new series, he ended up 12th in points. This weekend was supposed to be the first time Grant's father, Brent, would race a 410 sprint car. The three-time lightning sprint car champion drove a 360-powered car in his rookie season with USAC/CRA in 2024. However, his new 410 stuck a valve when they bumped the car off on Monday. He will miss this week's show but hopes to be ready for the March 1st race at Perris. Adult tickets for Saturday's race at Mohave Valley, which is located five minutes from the Colorado River and 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, are $25.00. Kids tickets are $15.00 and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. Spectator gates will open at 3:30 on Saturday and the first race will take the green flag at 5:30. The Mohave Valley Raceway is located at 2750 Laguna Road in Mohave Valley, Arizona. The track's website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/. The office phone number is 928-346-3000. Sexton Gatlin Racing would like to thank the following companies for making the 2024 season possible. - JEFF DYER RETURNS TO MOHAVE VALLEY RACEWAY WITH USAC/CRA THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
(Yucca Valley, CA, February 19, 2025) After the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA season opener was rained out last Saturday night at Perris Auto Speedway, Jeff Dyer will return to the site of his best night in sprint car racing, the Mohave Valley Raceway, this Saturday, February 22nd. Four months ago, competing in the best 410 traditional sprint car field assembled in the west last year, the racing California Highway Patrol Officer made both main events in the prestigious 57th Western World Sprint Car Championship. While last week's rainout frustrated many, it benefited Yucca Valley, California-based Dyer. The veteran driver was nervously awaiting his engine which was being freshened up and was supposed to be delivered on Friday. The plan when he went to bed on Thursday night was to get up early and install it on Saturday morning and then head to the track. However, the famous half-mile oval was saturated after heavy rains, and track officials were forced to pull the plug on the season opener. That gave Dyer some extra time to do the install before this week's race. Needless to say, after making both Western World mains at Mohave in November, Dyer is excited to hit the banked 1/3 mile clay oval this week. And not just because he did so well there in the Western World. "I am excited about going back there for a few reasons," the friendly driver said Wednesday night. "We did run very well there last time. Also, at the end of the year, I still wasn't 100 percent. I was about 60% better. Now for not doing anything the last few months, my body is feeling better and I am just excited to get the year going. It has been kind of a long off-season, but it allowed me to heal up a little bit more. I probably rushed it a bit last year." Dyer is referring to the nasty crash he was injured in at Perris last July 13th. A car ahead of him began flipping and landed on Dyer's cage while he was trying to avoid the mayhem. The blow knocked the former United States Army Demolitions Expert out cold. Unconsciously, his foot hit the throttle pedal and launched him head-on into the wall. The result was a broken arm and a bad concussion. "I am probably 95 to 100% now," said the driver nicknamed "Ponch" after the CHiP'S character. "Every now and then, I have some trouble with my elbow. It kind of flares up like I have tendinitis every now and then. My grip is back to normal, and my strength is a lot better." As usual, the 2025 season will be a busy one for Dyer. In addition to racing in the USAC/CRA Series, he plans to run his lightning sprint when the schedule permits. After Saturday's sojourn to the Copper State, he will return to Perris on Saturday, March 1st. After a week off, USAC/CRA heads to the Imperial Valley Raceway on March 14 and 15. In addition, there is the possibility that the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series will be racing on the same program at Imperial. If that is the case, Dyer will race in both classes. The following weekend, the busy schedule will continue its feverish pace when the California Lightning Sprints, Presented by Motor City GMC, will kick off their campaign on the same card as the Kubota High Limit Sprint Cars on the Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. "We are going to hit the ground running and hopefully have a great season," Dyer concluded. In 2025, the following marketing partners will help keep the Dyers on track. Jeff is racing in memory of his grandparents, Glenn, and Beverly Sels, throughout the 2025 season. Scott Daloisio produced this release.
