- Henry continues hot streak in Fremont AFCS; Sebetto sweeps 305 weekend; Gumby earns 2nd truck victory
FREMONT, Ohio - Cap Henry continued his recent hot streak behind the wheel of the Jeff Ward Motorsports 410 sprint car, claiming his third straight win at Fremont Speedway on Vision Quest Night, Saturday, June 3. It was Henry's fourth win of the season at Fremont, and coupled with Friday's win at Attica Raceway Park, it's the Republic, Ohio driver's fourth consecutive win and fifth overall of 2023. The dominance is reminiscent of 2020 when Henry won a lot of races and claimed the title of the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group. Henry came into Saturday second in the AFCS points. Henry took the lead from Cole Macedo, the 2022 AFCS champion, on lap two, sliced through heavy lapped traffic and surviving a caution with just two laps to go to earn his 16th career win at Fremont. Macedo, Nate Dussel, AFCS point leader Stuart Brubaker and Zeth Sabo rounded out the top five. "Everything is just going our way. Sometimes when you're good, you're good and everyone is just doing their jobs. Zack Myers has been doing a really good job. Chris Wilson, Jeff Ward, Gary Griff…everyone has been working very hard and this thing is just so fast. It makes my job a lot of fun making sure I just do my part of it. About half way through I was just trying to get through lapped traffic as fast as I could and I look over at Zack coming off of two and he's telling me to slow down so obviously I was pushing the issue a little bit there. I'm so proud of everybody involved in this," said Henry beside his Jeff Ward Demolition, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, Premier Planning Services, Tony Elliott Foundation, Primal Tee Shop, SCS Gear Box, Napa of Fremont, Elite Wings, Griff's Engines Berryman Racing Shocks backed machine. Bryan Sebetto wasn't supposed to race Saturday, but when he saw it was Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame induction night, his team decided to give it a shot. It paid off as the track's 2011 champion in the 410 sprints took the lead from teammate Seth Schneider with just nine laps to go and went on to make it a sweep of the weekend in the 305 sprints after having won the previous night at Attica. It was Sebetto's 24th career win at Fremont and his first at the track since 2013 "That was just a testament to just how good this car has been. It must be something about those Myers boys because Zack has Cap on rails and Guy (Myers, Zack's dad) has had this thing excellent the last four or five races. I just can't thank Jason and Chad and Guy and Kevin…everyone that puts in all the work. Originally we weren't going to race tonight on our schedule but I didn't realize it was hall of fame night and I told my wife I really want to race that night. I was lucky enough to have won a 410 championship here and be part of the hall of fame trophy presentation…that is such a cool deal. I've driven for Sonny Burmeister who is in the hall of fame and good friends with a lot of hall of fame members. This is very special to me," said Sebetto beside his Sandusky Bay Remodeling, JLH General Contractor, Sandusky Bay RV Rentals, KH Suspension, NAPA of Fremont, Clay Keim, Depot Pizza, CA Kustoms supported machine. Paul Weaver, who has won the last three straight NAPA of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales titles, will more than likely remain atop the 2023 standings with his fifth place finish Saturday. Ottawa Lake, Michigan's Dave Gumby Jr. held off several challenges from first Jamie Miller and then Dana Fry and survived a lapped truck spinning right in front of him on the last lap, then survived the ensuing one lap shoot out to claim his second Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature win of the season. Gumby now has four career wins at Fremont. "I said some choice words when that guy spin in front of me. I have to thank David Keegan, Tim, Stephanie and Dave for all their hard work," said Gumby of his Ron Miller Race Cars, Get Bent Fabrication, Level Performance backed #P51. Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 10 for night #2 of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek featuring the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions for the Rick Ferkel Classic. The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints will also be in action. - Henry charges to Attica AFCS 410 win; Schlenk gets late race late model victory; Sebetto wins 305 thriller
ATTICA, Ohio - Cap Henry knew after the high side of the track was watered he had to act quickly at the start of the 410 sprint feature Friday, June 2 at Attica Raceway Park. The Republic, Ohio driver blasted from fourth into the lead at the drop of the green, then made daring moves in lapped traffic and drove to his first win of the year at Attica on Burns Electric/Metal Masters Fabrication Night. Henry, Attica's 2020 track champion and the 2020 All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products presented by the Baumann Auto Group Attica Fremont Championship Series 410 champion, claimed his fourth overall victory of 2023 having won three at Fremont Speedway. The victory moves him into serious contention for the AFCS title. It wasn't that easy for Henry as Trey Jacobs closed in lapped traffic but slipped over the edge of the track with just five laps to go. Following Henry to the checkers was last week's winner Travis Philo, Jacobs, Stuart Brubaker and Zeth Sabo. "I don't know if the rest of the guys didn't see it (watering the track) or what but I knew that was the place to be. I saw them guys all run the bottom and I knew I had one chance to get there. Zack and Chris and Jeff and Gary have been working really hard on this thing….they keep plugging away at it. We were okay here just not good enough…I knew we'd get there. Mid-season championship is always a good one to win," said Henry beside his Jeff Ward Demolition, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, Premier Planning Services, Tony Elliott Foundation, Primal Tee Shop; SCS Gear Box, Napa of Fremont backed #33W. The 25 lap Dirt Nerds Podcast powered by propane UMP Late Model A-main saw only one caution and an exciting last 10 laps. After Gregg Haskell led the first two circuits, five time track champion Ryan Missler powered into the lead. The car on the move was eighth place starter Rusty Schlenk who took second on lap eight and closed on Missler in heavy lapped traffic by lap 13. With five laps to go Missler and Schlenk were banking doors racing through lapped traffic with Schlenk taking the lead with just three laps to go. Schlenk earned his third win of the year at Attica, the 38th of his career to sit atop the division's all-time win list. Missler, Devin Shiels, Casey Noonan and Ryan Markham rounded out the top five. "The track was absolutely perfect for the feature tonight. You could race anywhere. If the track is like this every week I may have to keep coming back. The fans had to enjoy that one, it was a blast. Racing with Ryan is a lot of fun. He's a good clean driver," said Schlenk beside his Velocita Fire suits, Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Terry Henricks Chrysler, Tom Finch Auto, VP Fuel, Dominator Race Products, Forbes Construction, All Star Performance, Mullins Engines, Willy's Carbs backed #91. The Fremont Fence 305 feature saw three lead changes in the last five laps. Paul Weaver lead the first 14 circuits of the 25 lap A-main with Steve Rando taking over for laps 15-20 before slipping over the turn two rim, giving the lead back to Weaver. Weaver was locked in a battle with Bryan Sebetto in heavy lapped traffic when he made contact, did a 360, collecting Sebetto who was able to keep rolling. Sebetto then inherited the lead and held off Rando, Jamie Miller, Dustin Dinan and Brandon Moore for his first win of the year, the 14th of his career in the division at Attica. "A lapped car went off the track on the back stretch came back on in front of Paul…that was unfortunate. That's not how I wanted to win one. I think Steve (Rando) probably had the fastest car…he just slipped out a little bit down there and gave it back to me and Paul. Sometimes when you're leading like that you have to hit your marks. I've don't it. I've run off the end leading and it sucks for Steve and it sucks for Paul how that all fell out," said Sebetto. "I really, really, really wanted to win tonight so that Guy (Myers, Sebetto's crew chief) and Zack (Myers, Henry's crew chief) could both have feature wins on the same night. That really means a lot. An army of people go into putting these cars on the race track. If it weren't for Kevin Schlachter I wouldn't be out here racing. He was generous enough to put a car together for me last year when I decided I wanted to come and have some fun. We try to make this fun and not so much work," added Sebetto beside his Sandusky Bay Remodeling, JLH General Contractor, Sandusky Bay RV Rentals, KH Suspension, NAPA of Fremont, Clay Keim, Depot Pizza, CA Kustoms backed #01. Attica Raceway Park will kick off the Ohio Sprint Speedweek with the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions Friday, June 9 with the UMP late models also on the racing card for the Bert and Brigitte Emick Classic. - Henry charges to Attica AFCS 410 win
Cap Henry knew after the high side of the track was watered he had to act quickly at the start of the 410 sprint feature Friday, June 2 at Attica Raceway Park. The Republic, Ohio driver blasted from fourth into the lead at the drop of the green, then made daring moves in lapped traffic and drove to his first win of the year at Attica on Burns Electric/Metal Masters Fabrication Night.
- Henry grabs 2nd 410 win in a row at Fremont; Miller makes it 305 weekend sweep; Hery tames non-wings
FREMONT, Ohio - Cap Henry sliced his way through traffic like a surgeon and drove to his second straight 410 feature win at Fremont Speedway Saturday, May 27 on Ohio Laborers Night. It is his third win of the season at "The Track That Action Built." Henry took the lead from rookie Kasey Jedrzejek on lap seven of the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints feature and caught lapped traffic perfectly, passing them one at a time to claim his 15th career win at Fremont. Henry survived a three lap shoot out at the end after a caution, driving away from Travis Philo and Cole Macedo. "Last thing you want to do when you start on the pole is get beat by a rookie into turn one and Kasey did a good job there. By the time that first caution came out I realized we had a pretty good car and just had to maintain it. I didn't know if that caution at the end helped me or hurt me but Zack (Myers, crew chief) told me to go so I knew we had to get with it. I'm just super grateful for everyone that's involved in this. Jeff (Ward) bringing Zack and I on board and both the Wilson Brothers…this one goes out to their dad who they lost over the winter. This car has been so good…it's made racing a lot of fun again. I got lucky when I was dealing with lapped cars I was dealing with them one at a time and not two or three wide. It was a tricky race track but I give the track crew a lot of credit. For what we started out with and what it was at the end was a lot of fun," said Henry beside his Jeff Ward Demolition, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, Premier Planning Services, Tony Elliott Foundation, Primal Tee Shop; SCS Gear Box, Napa of Fremont backed #33W. Piqua, Ohio's Travis Hery inherited the lead on lap 19 of the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints 25 lap feature after race-long leader Larry Kingseed had a right rear tire come off. On a challenging track Hery held off several challenges from Keith Sheffer the last four laps for his first ever Fremont win. "It was pretty knarly there in one and two and I biked up pretty good on that last restart. I don't know if it got in my head or something got messed up in the car but it got pretty tight. I have to thank my mom and dad for all they put into this. My wife Chloe…wish she could be here. She's busy working but I'm sure she's home cheering. Claxton builds us a really good motor every year and everyone who helps out," said Hery. Fremont, Ohio's Jamie Miller made it a sweep of the weekend in 305 sprint competition, leading all 25 laps to claim his second win of the season at Fremont. Miller, who won Friday at Attica Raceway Park, picked his way through traffic to claim his 41st career win at Fremont, putting him 11th on the all-time win list. "The lapped cars were coming pretty fast. I just tried to hold the line and keep the car under me and stay out of the holes and keep the gas pedal down. The car motor combination is on point right now. We're getting the car dialed in. It's a fast hot rod," said Miller beside his Boca Construction, Kenny Kalb Farms, Roberts & Sons Contracting, JLH General Contractor, Tuck Pointing America, Pizza Wheel, Smitty's Pizza, Queen of Clean, Rohr Total Lawn Care, Crown Battery, Reedtown Tavern, Fostoria Mod Shop, Slade Shock Technology, CA Kustoms, Jamie Miller Trucking, Reliable Spray Foam Insulators, Gill Sawmill backed #26. Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, June 3 with the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group for the 410 sprints, the NAPA of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales for the 305 sprints, and the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks in action. The induction ceremony for the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame will happen prior to the night's racing at 2:30 p.m. in the historic covered grandstands. - Philo earns last lap, last corner 410 Attica win; Shiels gets 1st late model victory; Miller dominates 305 sprints
ATTICA, Ohio - While everyone else was running around the bottom, Travis Philo pulled his wing back and blasted away at Attica Raceway Park's cushion Friday, May 26. The move and adjustments his crew made paid off as the Waterville, Ohio driver blasted around race-long leader Jordan Ryan on the last corner of the last lap to earn his the 410 sprint victory on Steinle Chevrolet Buick of Clyde/Norwalk Concrete Night. Philo's margin of victory was .236 seconds and it was his ninth career win at Attica. Jordan Ryan led the first 29.75 laps. He was challenged the first half of the race by Stuart Brubaker. With just eight laps to go, Ryan had pulled away from the field while Philo got around Brubaker for second. By lap 25, Philo had found the top side of the track and closed quickly on Ryan, setting him up for the last lap excitement. "I was kicking myself the last five times I tried to run the bottom in three and four. I would get huge runs off of four but it was so hard to get slowed down and hit that bottom right. I knew the top was working…that's where I passed all my cars coming off of four and getting into one. We tried a little bit different stuff tonight and I have to thank my dad and AJ Havens, Kayden Havens and their entire family. My dad busts his ass for us to be able to do this and I'm extremely appreciative," said Philo beside his Control Design Solutions, Tire Slick, Banshee Graphics, Columbus Equipment, Bohmer Rentals, Kistler Engines, Berryman Racing Shocks, Classic Ink USA, Maxim Chassis backed #5T. Devin Shiels, who has won the last three consecutive Dirt Nerds Podcast/Propane.com UMP Late Model track championships at Attica, began the season with a new car and the results were not something the Britton, Michigan driver was used to. Shiels and his team overcame the gremlins Friday at Attica, snatching the lead with just three laps to go to earn his 16th career victory at "Ohio's Finest Racing" venue. Canadian Gregg Haskell looked as though he was going to earn his first Attica win, leading the first 21 laps. But, Shiels found something on the top side of turns three and four and took the lead just before a caution with 22 laps complete. Shiels drove away for the win. "We've had some gremlins with this car. We had a right front shut-off for the brake that was sticking on causing me to push and we were trying to chase it with the set-up and didn't find the brake until last week. We've been trying some stuff here and there and the new car seems to be almost like the old car was….maybe a little better," said Shiels of his Magic Fountain Auto Wash, Rally's Hamburgers, Dundee Products, Banshee Graphics, Salenbein Trucking & Excavating, Dirt Nerds Podcast, Banshee Graphics backed #51. Three time Fremont Fence 305 sprint champion Jamie Miller also blasted away at Attica's high line, charging from his eighth starting spot to the lead by just lap six. The Fremont, Ohio driver earned his second Attica win of 2023 in dominating fashion, taking the checkers by nearly seven seconds for his 37th career victory at the track. "I don't know what was going on behind me…all I know is this went to the front pretty fast. This thing was locked down fast. We have a new motor in the car and it's a real ripper," said Miller of his Boca Construction, Kenny Kalb Farms, Roberts & Sons Contracting, JLH General Contractor, Tuck Pointing America, Pizza Wheel, Smitty's Pizza, Queen of Clean, Rohr Total Lawn Care, Crown Battery, Reedtown Tavern, Fostoria Mod Shop, Slade Shock Technology, CA Kustoms, Jamie Miller Trucking, Reliable Spray Foam Insulators, Gill Sawmill backed sprint car. Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, June 2 for Mid Season Championship Night with double points on the line. It will be an All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group night paying the Callie's Performance 410 Sprint feature winner $4,000. The Dirt Nerds/Propane.com UMP Late Models will fight for $2,000 to win while the Napa of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales 305 Sprints will battle for $1,200 to win.
- Fremont Speedway adds racing on Aug. 4 for weekend double-header
FREMONT, Ohio - Fremont Speedway will host a great weekend of racing on Friday, Aug. 4 and Saturday, Aug. 5. While the Aug. 5 date was on the original schedule, the track opted to add the Friday event to make up for the early season cancellations. "We looked around and no one else in our area was racing. We felt because of all the rain outs and cancellations this spring we owed it to the race teams and fans to try and add a race and this date offered us an opportunity for a fun weekend of racing and camping," said Ryan Schiets, Fremont Speedway Committee Chairman. The All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads-Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group will be in competition both nights as will the NAPA of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales 305 sprints and the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks. The Friday, Aug. 4 racing will be Fort Ball Pizza Palace Night while the Saturday, Aug. 5 event will be Plaza Lanes-Cameo Pizza Night. Schiets said the track committee and AFCS Promoter Duane Hancock are working to add extra money to the weekend's racing. - Henry gets late race pass for 2nd Fremont 410 win; Stroup earns fantastic 305 victory; Gumby tames trucks
FREMONT, Ohio - Cap Henry continued his hot streak to open the 2023 racing season with a late race pass to take the 410 sprint win at Fremont Speedway Saturday, May 20. Since joining the Jeff Ward Racing team in the off season, Henry, from Bellevue, Ohio, has put together a very solid start to the racing year, as Saturday's win was his second at Fremont. Henry, who started seventh in the 30-lap, $4,000-to-win feature on Great Lakes Truck Center Night, waged a great battle with Zeth Sabo whose team drove from New York after an All Star Circuit of Champions event was rained out. The pair nearly collided exiting turn four with Sabo making contact with the front stretch wall on lap 22, putting Henry into the lead. Henry drove away for his 14th career win at "The Track That Action Built." It was also a great weekend for Henry who battled the best in sprint car racing Friday at Attica Raceway Park, finishing sixth in the World of Outlaws event. The win Saturday will also put Henry in the thick of the battle for title of the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group, a crown Henry won in 2020. "Early there we weren't very good…the car was really good but the driver wasn't. I got to second….I finished second to Howdy (Sabo) last year when I drove that 29 car and I had to make sure I got one back. This car has been so fast. We struggled when we went to Wayne County Tuesday and I know everyone was bumped. Gary (Griffith) the 1985 Wayne County track champion helped us out and we got this thing rolling again. Man this is a lot of fun," said Henry beside his Jeff Ward Demolition, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, Premier Planning Services, Tony Elliott Foundation, Primal Tee Shop, SCS Gear Box, Napa of Fremont backed machine. The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature turned into one of the best races at Fremont for that division in a long time. Dustin Stroup and Bryan Sebetto battled each other hard the last four laps after a caution. The duo traded slide jobs every lap with Sebetto actually leading by a nose laps 22 and 23 before Stroup executed a slider to regain the top spot coming to the white flag. The pair raced side by side in turns one and two and banged wheels down the back stretch before Stroup was able to secure the win. It was his ninth career win at Fremont. Stroup's win also makes for a close battle for the title of the Napa of Bryan Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales. "That was tough. I looked up there when we had that caution (lap 21) and saw Sebetto in second…this is me and Sebetto's type of track. I knew he was going to race me hard and I was going to race him hard back. We did bang wheels a couple of times…nothing is tore up and I'm sure we'll go have a couple of beers and talk about this later. I have to thank everyone on this thing. We changed up our engine program this year with Frank Myers of Ness City, Kansas. He builds one hell of a runner. We went with Brandon Riehl and RCF Chassis and this thing has been great," said Stroup beside his Myers Racing Engines, The Pizza House, Advance Auto Parts, Vantage Branding, Sulfur Town Pub, CWH Construction Services, GCE LLC, Riehl Custom Fab, RCF Chassis, Berryman Racing Shocks, Sherry Stroup at Century 21 Wilcox and Associations backed machine. In a caution filled Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature Ottawa Lake, Michigan's Dave Gumby Jr. held off a late race charge from Cory McCaughey to claim his third career win at Fremont. "I was getting so impatient…that was a long feature. I want to thank my truck owner David, Tim Baker, Tim Sr., my dad, my wife and baby and Ron Miller for building one hell of a truck," said Gumby. In the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint feature, Travis Philo lead the first 11 laps before Sabo took over. Once Henry moved into second on lap 14, he quickly closed on Sabo before taking the lead on a restart on lap 22. Henry took the checkers nearly five seconds ahead of Philo with Cole Duncan charging from 12th to finish third while Stuart Brubaker and Byron Reed rounded out the top five. While Stroup led all 25 laps of the 305 sprint feature, building a four second lead by lap 11, once the leaders hit lapped traffic Sebetto closed quickly. A caution with four laps to go gave Sebetto the chance to throw a slider at Stroup on the restart and the battle was on the final four circuits. Stroup took the checkers just ahead of Sebetto with Seth Schneider, Paul Weaver and Logan Riehl rounding out the top five. In the dirt truck feature, Gumby first battled with Jamie Miller and then McCaughey before earning the win. McCaughey, Kent Brewer, Brad Mitten and Dana Fry rounded out the top five. It's an all sprint car affair at Fremont Speedway Saturday, May 27 with the 410 and 305 winged sprints and the Great Lakes Traditional Sprints (non-wing) in action. - Gee makes it an AFCS weekend sweep with Fremont win; Weaver back in 305 victory lane; Miller gets truck win
FREMONT, Ohio - Skylar Gee made it a clean sweep of the opening weekend for the Kistler Racing Products/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group for the 410 sprints, taking the lead with just six laps to go to score the win at Fremont Speedway on Autokiniton Night. Gee, a Alberta, Canada native who won at Attica Raceway Park the night prior, started seventh on the grid for the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints and took the lead from race-long top spot runner Stuart Brubaker in heavy lapped traffic on lap 24. A caution with just two laps to go did not deter Gee as he pulled away for his first ever Fremont victory worth $4,000. "What a race track. I got to give it to the track crew. We were a little bit skeptical when they reworked it but the surface was great. We were good all night long again…the driver messed up qualifying but made up for it in the heat race. I just tried to stay patient there early on and stay in the hunt and see what the race track was going to do. I wasn't very good at first and was kind of stuck behind the 32 (Bryce Lucius) and couldn't make anything work. So I just slowed down and made sure I hit the bottom off of four and really made up some ground," said Gee if his Castle Rock Enterprises, Dirt Sharks Excavation, Pat Beck Motorsports, Pack Rat Dumpsters backed Logan Fenton Racing machine. "I have to thank my dad, Tim, Jake, Logan, Becky…everyone who supports us. This is a blast right now," added Gee. Behind Gee at the checkers was Brubaker for his best finish of 2023, Byron Reed, rookie Lucius, Chris Andrews, Travis Philo (from 22nd), Duane Zablocki, Darin Naida, Brian Smith and Kyle Capodice. When original pole-sitter Matt Lucius pulled in prior to green for the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature, Paul Weaver used his now front row starting position to dominate. Weaver, who has won the last three Napa of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales titles, built up huge leads including a nearly five second advantage when a caution flew with just two laps to go. It didn't faze Weaver, the defending and four time Fremont track champion, as he drove to his 72nd career win at "The Track That Action Built," putting him third on the track's all-time win list. "It helps to start up front. We had some mechanical issues last week but got it all sorted out and this thing was just so good on the bottom," said Weaver beside his Steve Brown's B&B Drain Service, Hampshire Racing Engines, M&L Excavating, Seagate Sandblasting backed machine. Dustin Stroup would continue his early season success with a runner-up finish followed by 11th starter Bryan Sebetto, Jamie Miller, Mike Keegan, Logan Riehl, Shawn Valenti (from 15th), Kody Brewer, Tyler Shullick (from 19th) and Jimmie McGrath. Jamie Miller took the lead in the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature from Dustin Keegan on lap two and held off several late race challenges from Cory McCaughey to score his 40th career victory at Fremont, tying him for 11th on the all-time win list with Harold McGilton. McCaughey, Dan Hennig, Dave Gumby, Curt Inks, Brad Mitten, Shawn Valenti, Danna Frey, Keegan and Jarel Perry rounded out the top 10 behind the defending truck champion. "To hear my name mentioned with Harold…I was a snot nosed kid running around here when he was winning and taking it all in. That's so hard to imagine," said Miller of his Fostoria Mod Shop backed truck. "They found a few things wrong with this after last weekend and got them sorted out and we had a pretty good hot rod tonight," added Miller. - Gee Makes it an AFCS Weekend Sweep with Fremont Win
Skylar Gee made it a clean sweep of the opening weekend for the Kistler Racing Products/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group for the 410 sprints, taking the lead with just six laps to go to score the win at Fremont Speedway on Autokiniton Night.
- Gee clears traffic for Attica 410 win; Missler gets late race pass for late model win; Jedrzejek gets last lap pass for 305 win
ATTICA, Ohio - Skylar Gee was fast as soon as he unloaded Friday, May 12 at Attica Raceway Park. The Leduc Alberta, Canada driver set fast time in qualifying, charged from fourth to second in his heat, and took the lead in the 410 sprint feature on lap eight and drove to his second career win on American Powersports, Venture Visionary Partners, Edwards Jones' Mike Neill Advisor, Craig Miller Trucking, Bucyrus Road Materials Night for the 35th Eric Phillips Classic. It wasn't easy for Gee as Paige Polyak used heavy lapped traffic to close in the last 10 laps, even pulling along side of the leader with just four laps to go. Once Gee cleared the traffic he pulled away for the win on the opening night for the Kistler Racing Products/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads 410 Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group. "I had to work for that one. I saw Paige's nose a couple of times. It didn't matter what I did…if I got close to one lapped car then the other would get away and I'd get close to him. I got rolling pretty good there towards the end but I got tight and I couldn't figure out why but I see the right rear tire is pretty flat," said Gee beside his Castle Rock Enterprises, Dirt Sharks Excavation, Pat Beck Motorsports, Pack Rat Dumpsters backed machine. "I used to struggle here but the past couple of years I've been getting better and better. We've been pretty good this year but haven't had anything to show for it until now. I have to thank Logan, Dirt Sharks, Pack Rat, FK Rod Ends, Sander Wheels, and Jim Travis builds a hell of an engine," added Gee. Bellevue, Ohio's Ryan Missler needed long runs in the Dirt Nerds Podcast powered by propane UMP Late Model feature. Just as the five-time track champion got close to Justin Chance to battle for the lead a caution would fly. The final yellow fell with seven laps remaining and Missler was able to catch and then pass Chance on lap 22 and drove to his 19th career late model win at Attica. "I didn't want to see any of those cautions. It seemed like I needed a few laps to get rolling and get my tires warm. Running the top you can get your tires cooking pretty quick. I felt better around the bottom. The car is always good the longer the race goes if I got it right. I have to thank Attica for getting the race in today. They could have easily cancelled this with the radar and the forecast. My crew, Dave, Evan, Amber, my kids and all my sponsors," said Missler beside his Weekley Electric, Jackson Farms, LK Home Improvements, MGX Technologies, Rocket Chassis, Kepling Flooring, Superior Shine & Solutions, Handy Grafix, York Fabrication, Stakt, Napa of Bryan, George Lee Racing, Keizer Wheels, Elite Motorsports, AccuForce, SCS Gearbox, Missler's Sweets, Maga Lifts backed #50. Last week Kasey Jedrzejek clipped an infield tire while battling for the lead of the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint feature and ended up in the pits. This week the Lagrange, Ohio driver waited until the last lap to pass race-long leader Paul Weaver to claim his second career win at Attica. It was the opening week of the NAPA of Bryan 305 AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales. "I had a sponsor that told me at the start of the year every win they would give me a good chunk of change so I saw the lady today and I was telling her about last week and I thought I was going to get it until the misfortune down there and she said the same thing and I told her we were going to get it tonight and we did," said Jedrzejek beside his Heat Star, Mr. Heater, Fisher Custom Printing, Sips-N-Such Social House, Team Line'em Up, BEI Supply & Rental, Greber Racing Components, Perfection Fabricators, Ronda Jedrzejek at Howard Hanna, Dibaggio Family, FK Rod Ends backed machine. "Going out there on the start I really didn't think I had that great of a car but as the run went on I got better and better and then we got into lapped traffic and I was able to catch up to Paul. I have to thank my dad and Denny…after last week I spun out because I couldn't see because there was water blowing all over me. So we had to rebuild the top of the motor this week. They worked hard in the shop while I was studying for a final," added Jedrzejek. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series invades Attica Raceway Park Friday, May 19. The 305 sprints will also be in action. Reserved seats are available by going to www.atticaracewaypark.com. - Henry gets late Fremont sprint win; Miller sweeps 305 weekend; Holcomb earns 1st truck victory
FREMONT, Ohio - Late in the 2022 season Cap Henry lost his sprint car ride. The Republic, Ohio driver didn't know what the future might hold, but a conversation with Jeff Ward of Sandusky, who put together a team a couple of years ago, gave him new life in racing. The new pairing paid off Saturday, May 6 as Henry opened Fremont Speedway's 72nd year on Johnny Auxter Opening Night presented by Iron Workers Local 55, Gressman Powersports and Level Performance with the 410 sprint feature win. Henry, who started seventh on the feature grid, took the lead from Travis Philo with just four laps to go in the non-stop 30-lap A-main, and drove to his 13th career win at "The Track That Action Built." "This definitely means a lot. Last year things were really uncertain and Jeff Ward took the time and gave me another opportunity. I'm so grateful to have Zack (Myers, crew chief) on board. Just from the get-go this thing has been really really good. It's just made racing a lot of fun again. I know every time I get in the car we're going to be competitive and we're just working towards the same goal. So many people came on board to make this happen. Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, the Tony Elliott Foundation, Jeff Ward demolition, Premier Planning Services, Primal Tees….it means a lot," said Henry. Fremont's Jamie Miller started the 2023 racing season off in spectacular style, sweeping the weekend in the 305 sprint division. Miller, who won Friday at Attica Raceway park, held off several challenges from Mike Keegan and a late race restart to score his 39th career win at Fremont, putting him 12th on the track's all-time win list. "If you don't have an RCF Chassis…you might want to order one," said Miller of his new car. "This thing was locked down." "I saw Mike (Keegan) poking around me on the bottom when I was running the middle. I moved down and the car just took off," added Miller of his Boca Construction, Kenny Kalb Farms, Roberts & Sons Contracting, JLH General Contractor, Tuck Pointing America, Pizza Wheel, Smitty's Pizza, Queen of Clean, Rohr Total Lawn Care, Crown Battery, Reedtown Tavern, Fostoria Mod Shop, Slade Shock Technology, CA Kustoms, Jamie Miller Trucking, Reliable Spray Foam Insulators, Gill Sawmill backed machine. The Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature saw Jimmy Holcomb, Dave Gumby Jr. and Dustin Keegan racing three wide to the checkers with Holcomb earning his first ever Fremont win by .025 seconds. "It was good and hot and I thought well if I cook it we're going to give it a hell of a ride. I shouldn't have made it that close…I over drove it. We had one won opening night when we first built this truck three or four years ago and it haunted us ever since. I want to thank Steve Sabo the owner, Joe Bradford does a lot of the work. Obviously my wife….she actually came here to night…she hasn't been here for awhile. I wish my two boys were here…they're in the military so they're gone from home," said Holcomb. TJ Michael jumped into the early lead of the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint feature with Byron Reed, Travis Philo, Chris Andrews and Creed Kemenah in tow. Ten laps in and Philo, who had taken second on lap six, drove into the lead and used lapped traffic to build a two second lead at the half way point over Andrews, Michael and Henry. Henry used lapped traffic to drive from fourth to second a lap later. Philo maintained a nearly two second lead but traffic allowed Henry to close with seven laps to go. With four laps to go, Henry drove under Philo in turn two to take the lead and drove away to the win over Philo, Michael, Andrews and Zeth Sabo. While the final results will show Miller lead all 25 laps in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint A-main, a hand full of cautions kept the field close and Mike Keegan hounded the leader the entire way. A restart with just four laps to go wasn't enough as Miller drove away for the win over Keegan, John Ivy, Paul Weaver and Seth Schneider. Gumby led the first six laps of the dirt truck A-main before Cory McCaughey took over for a lap and then spun as he and Gumby battled for the lead. Gumby maintained the top spot until heavy lapped traffic came into play and Holcomb took the top spot on lap 15 by a nose. Holcomb and Gumby battled side by side with Dustin Keegan joining in the final three circuits. Holcomb edged Gumby and Keegan for the win with Brad Mitten and McCaughey rounding out the top five. - Schlenk dominates for Attica late model win
ATTICA, Ohio - A few weeks ago Rusty Schlenk scored a late model win at Attica. Not a big deal given he's a three time national UMP champion. However, it was HOW he won, having to utilize the bottom groove; something the McClure, Ohio driver rarely, if ever, does. Schlenk is a rim-rider and on May 5, Attica was more to his liking as he powered around the top and dominated on Stillwater Metals/Bazell Race Fuels Night for his 37th career Attica win worth $3,000. "The track was awesome tonight. You could run all over the thing and you finally got my lane back up there for me. I'm a lot more comfortable up top. We had to win one a couple of weeks ago on the bottom old school. I had to pull that one out of the old bag of tricks. Good to be able to get back up there and rip the lip," said Schlenk beside his Velocita Fire suits, Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Terry Henricks Chrysler, Tom Finch Auto, VP Fuels, Dominator Race Products, Forbes Construction, All Star Performance, Mullins Engines, Willy's Carbs backed machine. Only a couple of cautions kept the field close to Schlenk who at one time had four second lead as he held the point all 25 laps. However, the battle for second was very entertaining with Casey Noonan finally securing the runner-up finish over JR Gentry, Matt Irey and Devin Shiels. Fremont, Ohio's Jamie Miller, a former Attica track champion, had his work cut out for him in the 25 lap Fremont Fence 305 Sprint feature. With just two laps remaining, Kasey Jedrzejek was racing inside of Miller challenging for the lead when he hit one of the infield tires, ending his fantastic run. Miller cruised the final two laps for his 36th career division win at Attica. Dustin Stroup, Brandon Moore, Seth Schneider and Jimmy McGrath rounded out the top five. "I saw Kasey down there poking around and I moved down and was pretty good. I figured we was going to have a pretty good race and then I saw that tractor tire jumped out in front of him. It's happened to me more than once. This is an RCF Chassis from Brandon Riehl and I'm really liking it so far," said Miller beside his Boca Construction, Kenny Kalb Farms, Roberts & Sons Contracting, JLH General Contractor, Tuck Pointing America, Pizza Wheel, Smitty's Pizza, Queen of Clean, Rohr Total Lawn Care, Crown Battery, Reedtown Tavern, Fostoria Mod Shop, Slade Shock Technology, CA Kustoms, Jamie Miller Trucking, Reliable Spray Foam Insulators, Gill Sawmill backed #26. The dirt trucks made their only appearance of the season at Attica and Miller and Keith Sorg put on a fantastic battle, racing side by side for many laps. Miller lead laps 1-5 with Sorg taking over on lap six. Miller suffered a flat tire on the last lap and Sorg cruised to his third career Attica win over Dan Hennig, Brian Arnold, Jarel "Butch Latte" Perry and Dustin Keegan rounding out the top five. "We started building this new truck late last fall. This was a shake-down night…we wasn't expecting none of this. That's what we built this for to run with those guys like Jamie Miller so hopefully we stay there," said Sorg beside his Fremont Fence, M&L Excavating backed #4x. Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, May 12 for the Eric Phillips 35th Anniversary Classic. It's the kick-off of the Kistler Racing Products/All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads 410 Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group and the NAPA of Bryan 305 AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales. The Dirt Nerds Podcast/Propane.com UMP Late Models will also be in action for the Attica/Oakshade Challenges Series. - Rains and cold temps force Fremont cancellation
FREMONT, Ohio- Rains throughout Friday and Saturday morning coupled with cold temperatures forecasted for Saturday evening have force Fremont Speedway officials to cancel the racing for Saturday, April 22. "We have heard from several race teams who indicated the risk of running in the colder temperatures wasn't financially sound for them. It just isn't financially viable for the teams or the track to risk. We hope things warm up and dry out this week so we can race next Saturday," said Fremont Speedway Committee Chair Ryan Schiets. Fremont Speedway will try again Saturday, April 29 for the Johnny Auxter Opening Night with support from the Pub 400, Fort Ball Pizza Palace and Custom Metal Works. The All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group 410 sprints will battle for $4,000 to win with the NAPA of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales 305 sprints and the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks in action. - Marks battles from 20th to score All Star win at Attica
ATTICA, Ohio -Brent Marks knew he had his work cut out for him against the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobile 1 Saturday, April 15 at Attica Raceway Park. The Myerstown (PA) Missile drew a late qualifying number and with 30 cars on hand for the second night of the Core & Main Spring Nationals presented by Construction Equipment and Supply, Advanced Drainage Systems, Erie Blacktop and Smith Paving, it meant he had to time in against the entire field and not just his heat competition. Marks, who was one of the hottest sprint car drivers in the country in 2022, put his head down and charged from a 20th starting spot in the 35-lap A-main to his first career Attica win worth $6,000 without the benefit of double-file restarts. Cale Thomas led the first 22 laps before Zeb Wise, who surrendered the win on the last lap the previous night, took over the point. Meanwhile Marks had worked his way to third with 15 laps to go and used heavy lapped traffic to take second on lap 27. Just two circuits later Marks drove under Wise to take the lead and drove away to his 10th career All Star victory. "Hats off to my guys. They worked super hard to night to try and get this better. The late pill draw wasn't very good and got us behind in time trials and we were just off in the heat race and got better in the B-main. As much as it sucks to be in the B-main we really needed that tonight to get some laps to just figure this thing out. Holy molly it just worked where ever I went. That was just a lot of fun," said Marks beside his M&M Painting and Construction, Baps Paints, Lime Wire Customs, Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel backed #19M. "It was just so dirty and so hard to see at the start and I wanted to try to get down to the bottom as soon as I could and I just found a lot of grip around the bottom and tried to be as super patient as I could and not hit the infield tractor tires. I had to work on it a little bit during the race to try and get my entry a little better. Every time I tried to open it up I got stuck in the middle so I just had to be careful and patient. That was just a blast and I hope everybody enjoyed that tonight," Marks added. Although finishing second for a second straight night, Rudeen Racing's Zeb Wise will leave Attica Raceway Park as the current All Star championship points leader. "A really good weekend for us, although a little frustrating at the same time," Zeb Wise noted. "Felt like I had a really good car again. I just made some bad choices in lapped traffic. I wanted to be on the top in three and four but it was kind of hard to see and not much of a cushion it was just grip there and I just picked the wrong lanes at the wrong times." Two time and defending All Star champion Tyler Courtney, who swept the Spring Nationals last year at Attica, rounded out the podium. "It was a great night for us. We really struggled last night. Jake, Luke and Cameron put their heads down and got the car a lot better here tonight. All and all a good weekend for us with a sixth and a third. Big picture when you're running for a championship to come out of here with a top five and a top 10 and put this Nos Energy Drink, ZMax car up front where it needs to be. Wins will come….we're going in the right direction," said Courtney. In the Fremont Fence 305 Sprint Feature, Lindsey, Ohio's Steve Rando survived early race challenges from Dustin Stroup and Jamie Miller and drove to his sixth career feature win, leading all 25 laps. "It's been about two years since I've had a win. The long stretches my car kept getting loose and I was losing a whole lot in one and two and I went to the top and I never saw another car under me so it must have worked," said Rando beside his Davis Fabricators, Garza Construction, Wolfpack Tree Service, Linton & Stinson Electric Solutions, Triple L Logistics, Tony and Dawn, Gressman Power Sports, Attitudes Hair Salon backed #19R. Attica Raceway Park will kick off the 2023 All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products 410 Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group paying $4,000 to win Friday, April 21 on Baumann Auto Group/Venture Visionary Partners Night. The NAPA of Bryan 305 AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales will pay $1,200 to the feature winner thanks to Gressman Powersports. The Dirt Nerds Podcast/Propane.com UMP Late Models will also be in action. - Due to Attica move, Fremont postpones season opener
FREMONT, Ohio - Fremont Speedway has been forced to postpone its 2023 season opener originally scheduled for Saturday, April 15 due to Attica Raceway Park moving it's spring nationals to April 14-15. Fremont Speedway Committee Chairman Ryan Schiets notes traditionally Fremont has opened its racing season in the middle of April, but the way the Easter weekend fell at times, cooperated with Attica Raceway Park who traditionally holds its Spring Nationals on Easter weekend. He noted through 2019 Attica would have one make-up date - a Friday the next week - if the Spring Nationals were forced to cancel the original date. "Several years ago we moved our season opening night back a week to accommodate Attica who has always had its spring nationals on Easter weekend because the holiday weekend just happened to fall on our traditional opening night. We try to work with other tracks so that the race teams and fans are the winners and we hope other tracks will be willing to work with us. This year Easter weekend was scheduled for April 7-9 so we wanted to get back to our traditional Mid-April opener. Attica has decided due to weather to move their scheduled race. We looked at options including running on Sunday, April 16 but it just wasn't economically feasible," said Schiets. Fremont Speedway will now open - weather permitting- Saturday, April 22 for Johnny Auxter Opening Night on Pub 400/Fort Ball Pizza Palace Night featuring the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products 410 Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group, paying $4,000 to win, the NAPA of Bryan ASFCS 305 Sprints presented Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales paying $1,000 to win and the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Trucks.
