- Doubleheader Weekend Brings Great Lakes Super Sprints Back to Michigan Friday and Saturday
Merrill, MI - This weekend, the Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP (GLSS) are back in the Great Lakes State for a Friday and Saturday night doubleheader. Friday night, the GLSS return to I-96 Speedway to the tune of $5,000 to win before a return to Crystal Motor Speedway for the first time in over three months. Friday at I-96, drivers will roll into Michigan's fastest Speedway with an over $20,000 purse on the line in a $ 5,000-to-win, $ 500-to-start showdown. I-96 Speedway has historically been a thrilling visit for the GLSS, and that held true in the last show there on May 29th. Chase Dunham and Dustin Daggett led the field to the green flag, and hometown favorite, Daggett held off a charge from Scott Bogucki to snap a nearly two-year winless streak. In the last visit to Crystal Motor Speedway, history was made when Zane DeVault broke the track record on the new American Racer tires. DeVault ripped off a time of 11.930 seconds before going on to have a near-perfect night, winning his heat race and rolling from third to victory lane. DeVault had some help that night as engine issues plagued both Jared Horstman and Clinton Boyles, who were at the front of the field for the first half of the race. DeVault remains the only driver to win multiple races this season with the Great Lakes Super Sprints. In 11 shows, nine different drivers have made their way to victory lane. The top two in GLSS Tour points, however, are still held winless. Chase Dunham, who took control of the championship points lead following the trip to Ohsweken and Buxton Speedways in June, has ripped off five top five finishes so far this year, including a runner-up performance at Buxton Speedway. Dunham has been lights-out in qualifying, though, grabbing five Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Awards, the only driver with more than one so far this season. Dunham holds a 28-point lead over four-time and defending GLSS Champion, Max Stambaugh, who holds four wins at I-96 Speedway, has been held winless as well so far this season. As for the MacAllister CAT (Michigan) Division, Dustin Daggett has his No.85 at the top of the standings, returning to the place he calls home. The Michigan championship standings is one of the best points battles with GLSS in recent memory, with the top five separated by roughly 100 points. Daggett brings in a 29-point advantage over Max Stambaugh and sits 49 points ahead of Chase Dunham. Inaugural GLSS Champion, Chase Ridenour holds down the fourth spot, hot off his win at Butler Motor Speedway in June, and a potential sleeper in the championship hunt, Boston Mead sits fifth just 110 points back from Daggett. With $5,000 on the line Friday night, the 20 or more GLSS regulars that fans are used to seeing throughout the season are likely to deal with plenty of outsiders looking to cash in on a payday. Pit gates at I-96 Speedway open at 4:00 PM with racing scheduled for 8:00PM. Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway, pit gates open at 2:00 PM and racing is slated for 7:00 PM. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action LIVE on www.GreatLakesSprints.TV. For more information on the Great Lakes Super Sprints, visit GreatLakesSuperSprints.com. - Bounty, American Racers, Tires, No Problem for Dylan Westbrook with GLSS Friday in an Instant Ohsweken Classic
Ohsweken, ON, CAN - When the Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP rolled into Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night, many factors played into the makeup of the show. A new tire in play for the Ohsweken regulars with the American Racer Tire, a massive track rework during the week leading up to the event, and a surprise $10,000 bounty to beat Dylan Westbrook. Familiar faces to Ohsweken Speedway led the field to the green flag for the 25-lap main event on Friday night. Darren Dryden and Ryan Turner lit the fuse on an electric race where the action started immediately. At the exit of turn two, Dryden threaded the needle between Turner and the outside wall to take the top spot down the backstretch and lead lap number one. Meanwhile, Dylan Westbrook, from the fourth starting spot, was on a charge to get to the front and keep the $10,000 out of the pockets of his fellow competitors. Nine laps into the race, Westbrook made a three-wide move in turn three to get around Turner and slide into the second spot, while Dryden was slicing his way through lapped traffic trying to run away and hide. When Westbrook got to second, his gap up to Dryden was over 1.5 seconds. By lap 12, Westbrook had the gap down to just half a second and was on Dryden's tail tank going into the third turn, looking at the halfway signal. While Dryden and Westbrook locked in a stalemate at the front, DJ Christie and Cory Turner closed in on the lead duo, creating a four-car war at the front of the field. With seven laps to go, Westbrook put his No.47X at the front of the field, leaving many Ohsweken fans saying 'this is over', but it was far from it. Entering turn three the next time by, Westbrook missed the top of turn three and blew it over the cushion, allowing Dryden to get back by and bring Cory Turner with him. Westbrook came back onto the race track in front of Christie and began his charge back toward the front, but with five laps to go, it was another new leader in the form of Cory Turner. The No.39 used the bottom of the race track to slip by Dryden at the exit of turn two and officially take the lead with four laps to go. Dryden's car began to fade, giving Westbrook the second spot with ease out of corner number four. In turns one and two, Westbrook had pulled back alongside Turner as the pair began fighting it out for the final three laps. Westbrook took the lead back with three laps to go, and then Turner re-took the lead with two laps to go. With the white flag in the air, it was again Turner who held the top spot at the line. Heavy lapped traffic held up Turner on the bottom of turns one and two, allowing Westbrook to take the lead around the outside. Turner was able to get back to his inside in turns three and four, but at the line, with Turner on his tail tank, Westbrook took the win, keeping $10,000 out of Cory Turner's pocket. The win for Westbrook was his 102nd at Ohsweken Speedway and fifth with the Great Lakes Super Sprints. "We were pretty fired up to come out here and get the win," Westbrook said in Victory Lane, speaking about the bounty. "That was an amazing race. That was everything I had to keep it on the top and never tried the bottom and [Cory] was rolling the bottom really good and he'd get me and I'd have to get a big run. I was going through those bumps wide open and hoping it sticks." Cory Turner held on for the second spot ahead of DJ Christie, Darren Dryden, and Ryan Turner rounded out the top five. DJ Christe was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger. Skyler Evans won Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race number one. Cory Turner won Miami Paint Heat Race number two. Darren Dryden won Northwood University Heat Race number three. Skyler Evans was the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints is Saturday, June 27th at Buxton Speedway to wrap up the Ontario, Canada swing. Racing is set to begin at 7:00 PM. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action live on GreatLakesSprints.TV. - Great Lakes Super Sprints Ready for International Affairs Friday & Saturday in Ontario, CAN
Merrill, MI - The Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP (GLSS) are prepared for an international showdown this weekend as the best of the GLSS head to Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night and Buxton Speedway on Saturday night to take on Ontario, Canada's best. The new American Racer tire for GLSS this season may be the variable needed to bring an end to the Canadian's reign on their home soil. The first GLSS events in Ontario came in 2024 with a Thursday and Friday doubleheader at Ohsweken Speedway. The races were co-sanctioned with the Southern Ontario Sprints and Ohsweken Speedway weekly divisions. Dylan Westbrook handled business both nights in Ohsweken before the Tour moved to Buxton Speedway on Saturday night. Darren Dryden started on the pole and held off challenges from Ryan Turner and DJ Christie for the win. Last year, Dryden overcame a start violation on the opening green flag to go to Victory Lane for the second time with GLSS and his first career win at Ohsweken Speedway. The next night at Buxton Speedway, DJ Christie punched his ticket to the winner's club with GLSS. The Ontario regulars have had their home turf locked down in recent years, but things could equalize as GLSS brings in a few weeks of familiarity on the new American Racers. Coming into the weekend, the best finishes among GLSS regulars have been around fifth. Last year, 2018 Tour Champion, Dustin Daggett, finished fourth at Buxton Speedway a night after finishing sixth at Ohsweken. In 2024, Max Stambaugh carried the GLSS banner, finishing seventh and 11th at Ohsweken before finishing fifth at Buxton to close out the weekend. This year, to balance the Canadian's familiarity with the tracks, the GLSS teams' familiarity with the American Racer tire may level the playing field. Teams have had 10 races on the MC3 right-rear and the SD38 left rear. In those 10 races that the American Racer has been legal, eight different drivers have gone to victory lane, with only Zane DeVault capturing multiple wins this season. The international affair for GLSS begins Friday, June 26th at Ohsweken Speedway. General Admission gates open at 6:00 PM with racing at 7:30 PM. On Saturday at Buxton Speedway, racing is set to begin at 7:00 PM. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action all weekend long on GreatLakesSprints.TV.
