- After a 3rd Place at Ventura, Brent Sexton Heads to Mohave Valley Raceway
Lakeside, CA — October 1, 2025 — After a week of R&R at the river, Sexton Gatlin Racing is gearing up for Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway this Saturday night, October 4th, as the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series continues. The outing comes just two weeks after Brent Sexton scored a career-best full-size sprint car third-place finish in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Ventura Raceway. The night at Ventura began with qualifying, when 21-year-old SGR driver Grant Sexton clicked off a 12.748 lap, good for fourth in his group. With the track slowing down, only one car in the final two groups bested his mark, giving him the sixth-fastest time overall. Brent, qualifying in the final group, clocked a 13.180 lap—second in his group but only 11th overall. In preliminary action, Grant started and finished fourth in his heat, while Brent advanced from second to third in his. That set the stage for the 30-lap feature, with Grant rolling off seventh and Brent from ninth. The early laps saw little change, though Grant climbed to challenge for fifth just past halfway. Then came disaster: the two cars in front of him tangled, with one flipping and landing on Grant's machine. The damage ended his night early, leaving him with a frustrating 17th-place finish. Meanwhile, Brent narrowly avoided a first-turn incident on lap one and went to work. Restarting sixth after Grant's misfortune, he steadily picked off cars. By the white flag, he was up to third. A late yellow set up a green-white-checkered finish, and Brent dove low to briefly challenge for second. Twice he nosed ahead, but the runner-up of most of the race reclaimed the inside line on the final turn, forcing Brent to settle for a hard-fought third. The result was Brent's best full-size sprint car finish of 2025, topping his previous best of fifth at Ocean Speedway in March. This week's return to Mohave Valley brings back fond memories for the team. In what many consider Brent's finest lightning sprint victory, in October 2022, he rebounded from an off-track excursion to steal the lead on the final lap. Coming off turn four to a roaring crowd, he edged ahead at the line by a car length, with SGR teammates AJ Bender and Dalton Sexton close behind in second and third. Gates at Mohave Valley Raceway open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Adult admission is $25, kids 6-12 are $15, and children 5 and under are free. Tickets are cash only at the gate (no ATMs onsite). Concessions, souvenirs, and the beer garden accept cash and cards. For more details, visit mohavevalleyraceway.com or call (928) 346-6000. - Jeff Dyer Excited to Return to Action in His USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car This Saturday at Perris
Yucca Valley, CA — September 25, 2025 — Just when Jeff Dyer thought his 410 season in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series was over for 2025, it will continue this Saturday, September 27th. Last month, the California Highway Patrol officer withdrew from the CRA main event at The PAS with five laps remaining, believing his engine was done for good. Fortunately, when Dyer, a Yucca Valley, California resident, examined the engine, he found no damage. As a result, he will be at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday. The discovery was a welcome relief in a season marked by multiple engine issues for the affable driver. "It is very frustrating," Dyer said of the mechanical woes he has encountered this season. "You put a lot of time and effort into this stuff. It takes the fun out of it because you go to the track and think, 'What else can go wrong?' You put your heart and soul into it, and the results don't show it. If you are not finishing races, it is flat-out embarrassing." Two weeks ago, Dyer hit the track twice in 24 hours with the Motor City Buick/GMC California Lightning Sprints, competing at both Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway and Merced Speedway. In addition, he made his midget racing debut at Merced. Overall, it was a strong weekend for Dyer, with second-place finishes in both CLS races and an eighth-place result in the USAC Western States Midget main event. "It is frustrating," Dyer lamented about finishing second two nights in a row. "At Kern, Bobby was just better than us. He had the car to beat. At Merced, I felt we were just too equal. Every time we caught lapped traffic, the yellow came out. I actually got by him in lapped traffic when the first yellow came out. It was frustrating as we were just equal. We needed one more factor to get involved and make it a great race." "I don't like losing but losing to Bobby with all the bad luck he has had, especially his health, it was a little easier," Dyer continued. "It is good to have him back out racing with us again and seeing him get back to his old form." The midget racing opportunity came together when Dyer received a call from Kelly Nichols, asking if he'd be interested in driving the Nichols/Peckfelder #2ND at Merced. He eagerly accepted the offer and was pleased with his performance. Dyer qualified 12th out of 15 cars and started the main event from the outside of the sixth row. He kept a clean race, advancing four positions to finish in 8th place, a result he was happy with. "It was different for sure," Dyer said when asked about the difference in driving a midget and his lightning sprint and USAC/CRA car. " I didn't really know what to expect of the car, having never driven one before. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were decent right out of the box. We were underpowered compared to the rest of the cars, but we ended up doing okay. I think we finished eighth after starting 12th. I hope I get to drive it again. He wanted me to go again on the following weekend, but I had to work. Work comes first." Dyer's teammate, 16-year-old Drake Cardey of Riverside, California, also competed in the two CLS races. The young driver's impressive rookie season continued with a fifth-place finish in both main events. Heading into the final three races of the year, he sits second in the CLS points standings, just 99 markers out of first. Additionally, he finished third in the CLS vs. BCRA Civil War points. Earlier this year, he placed second in the two-race Central California Showdown. He also leads the Rookie of the Year standings by 103 points as the season enters the home stretch. "He has had a great season and had a good weekend," Dyer said of Cardey. "We had some battles in the heat races and the main. People forget, this is his first year in a full-size racecar. He made some rookie mistakes that cost him podium finishes each day, but he is still progressing and doing very well." For fans who want to see Dyer in action on Saturday night, spectator gates at Perris Auto Speedway will open at 5:00 PM, and the first race will take the green flag at 7:00. Tickets for those 13 years of age and older are $35.00. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids six to 12 it is $10.00, and children five and under are admitted free. Advance tickets are available online at tix.com. There will be plenty of walk-up tickets available for everyone at the track ticket booths on Saturday. Fairgrounds parking is $20.00 (parking fee is payable by card only). Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds at 18700 Lake Paris Drive in the City of Perris. The track website is perrisautospeedway.com, and the office phone number is 951-940-0134. Cardey's California Lightning Sprint Car is sponsored by Eibach Springs, Cardey Construction, Inland Rigging, Jake Swanson Shock Technology, Last Lap Insider, and Dylan Godeniz Motorsports. In 2025, the following marketing partners will help keep Dyer on track. Straight Time Stirrups, Haircuts By Susie, Jobu Racing, Justice Brothers, Fonseca Racing, Specialty Fasteners, and Blud Racing Lubricants. If you would like to be a part of Dyer Motorsports in 2024, call (760) 550-7237 or send an email to mailto:dyermotorsports4@gmail.com.
