- Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads Back to Perris After Season-Best Run
Chino Hills, CA — September 25, 2025 — Fresh off his best outing of the season, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will be back in action this Saturday, September 27th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. Two weeks ago, Tafoya charged from deep in the field to finish fourth and captured the "In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award" for passing more cars than any other driver on the famous half-mile oval. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer entered that race on the heels of another strong fourth-place finish when the Ultimate Sprint Car Series visited Petaluma Speedway in the Bay Area on September 1st. Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns champion, opened his most recent PAS appearance by qualifying 13th in the 21-car field with a lap of 17.441 seconds. He then advanced to fourth in his heat race. In the 30-lap main event, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year lined up on the inside of the seventh row in 13th. To make things more challenging, the World of Outlaws winged feature was moved ahead of the USAC/CRA finale at the last minute, creating a slicker surface and making passing more difficult for most of the non-wing competitors. However, that was not the case for Tafoya in his sharp-looking #51T. The second-generation driver sliced through the field, picking off 13 cars and taking the checkered flag in fourth. His charge forward may have been even greater if he had not run out of laps. Fans who want to see Tafoya in person on Saturday can find complete race details below. Event Info: Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025 Location: Perris Auto Speedway, 18700 Lake Perris Drive, Perris, CA Times: Spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00. Tickets: 13 and over, $35.00. Seniors 65 and above are $30.00. Kids 6-12 get in for $10.00 and children 5 and under are free. Fairgrounds parking is $20.00 (fairgrounds parking is only payable with a card). Advance tickets available at tix.com. Plenty of walk-up tickets will also be available. Track Info: perrisautospeedway.com | 951-940-0134 Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at @eddietafoya51. The Tafoya Racing team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for their continued support of the 2025 season. - Hudson O'Neal Wins Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals from 15th
KNOXVILLE, IA (September 20, 2025) - Hudson O'Neal charged from his 15th starting position to win the 21st Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by All Makes Collision Center on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway. The Martinsville, Indiana driver earned an event record $75,000 for his 34th career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win. In a race with nine lead changes among three drivers, O'Neal finally took the lead for good on lap 57 and then led the last 18 laps to win by 8.368 seconds over Ricky Thornton Jr., Devin Moran, Brandon Sheppard, and Daulton Wilson. Jonathan Davenport and Moran swapped the lead during the first 54 laps of the race, until O'Neal became the third different leader on lap 55. Moran led lap 56, and O'Neal took the lead for the second time on lap 57, then pulled away to dominate the rest of the race. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane, O'Neal becomes the 16th different winner in 21 editions of the crown jewel event. O'Neal and his father Don are the first father-son duo to win the race, with Don having won it in 2011. "I'm tired, man. Riding around that berm was so demanding; it got really rough down there, and I kept telling myself to just breathe. Hats off to my guys—whenever you destroy a race car like that, it definitely hurts. I put a lot of effort into that car to make it to the World 100; it was the car we planned to finish our championship with. That was definitely a morale killer a little bit, but we were able to unload the car the next day, and the guys worked hard to get it ready. To come back and have good speed last night was great—we had a mechanical failure, and to come from 15th is just so awesome," said the 2023 National Champion. "It's been a tough month, but we've been making progress step by step. We've received a lot of help from many different people, including my family and everyone watching back home. These races are so special—these are the ones you dream of adding to your list. This one is so cool. I knew I was really good, and when I was racing with Devin, I didn't feel like I was pushing my limits down there. They were having to run really hard on the track to keep up, and I figured they'd heat their tires and I could slip away from them," said the winner, who became the youngest driver to win the event at age 25. Thornton was the only driver in the top three finishers who did not lead a lap and came in second after passing Moran in the final four laps. "I went much tighter than I did last night; the track never really slowed down like it usually does here. I don't know if it was easier to run around the bottom berm; overall, I'm happy with second. Obviously, Hud was a lot better than all of us; he drove to the front and won by over 8 seconds or whatever it was. Congrats to him. I feel like any time it gets around a berm like that on the bottom, I remember, like at Pittsburgh a few years back, he wore us all out running below the berm. So again, congrats to him for tonight; after flipping on night one, it didn't scare him at all." Moran finished third on the Big River Steel Podium after leading 21 laps. "We just got that bottom to start chunking out a little, and when it did, my nose was just too low, and it kept bouncing and bouncing. I couldn't circle that bottom. Overall, we'll take it. I really felt like we had a really good car for a long part of that race. I could move all around, and JD was having an awesome race. It was so fun to race with him, but obviously Hudson was the best car tonight. At the end, he did a great job — my guys said he was a second faster per lap at the end of the race." The winner's SSI Motorsports, Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Wheeler Metals, Triple O, Merrill Bonding Company, Sub Surface of Indiana, Professional Concrete, Cutting and Drilling, West Side Tractor Sales, Dyno One Inc., O'Neal's Salvage and Recycling, Indiana USSSA Fast Pitch Softball, Bob and Tammy Burton, Houchens Insurance Group, Bilstein Shocks, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Bob Cat of Batesville. Completing the top ten were Brian Shirley, Garrett Alberson, Dan Ebert, Tyler Erb, and Donald McIntosh. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Ready for Perris' Biggest Sprint Car Night of 2025
Chino Hills, CA — September 7, 2025 — After a weekend off following three straight nights of racing in Northern California, Eddie Tafoya Jr. returns to action this Saturday, September 13th, when Perris Auto Speedway hosts its biggest sprint car program of the season. Tafoya will pilot his familiar #51T in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series that sharing the spotlight with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars in a rare and exciting open-wheel doubleheader. The 27-year-old Chino Hills, California racer comes into the event with momentum, fresh off his best finish of 2025 — a fourth-place run in the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Petaluma Speedway on Labor Day. In just his second career start with the USCS, and his first appearance at Petaluma since 2019, Tafoya charged forward from seventh on the grid to secure the top-five result on the tight 3/8-mile oval. Earlier that evening, Tafoya was third-fastest in his qualifying group, seventh overall of the 20 cars on hand and recorded a third-place finish in his 10-lap heat race. "The night went well," Tafoya said of Petaluma. "The track changes a lot. You kind of start tightening up the car and then go back to where you started for the main event. Just had to make sure the car was drivable after the two previous nights." The strong Petaluma outing came on the heels of Tafoya's participation in the historic reopening of Calistoga Speedway over Labor Day weekend. Racing returned to the iconic half-mile for the first time in six years in front of sellout crowds. On night one, Tafoya timed in eighth-fastest among 34 cars, finished fifth in his heat, and transferred through the B-main before ending the A-main in 16th. Night two saw him post the 18th-quickest qualifying lap, grab a second in his heat, and lock into the feature, where he placed 18th. "I was pretty excited to go back there," Tafoya said of his return to the big half mile. " I am always happy to go to big fast racetracks. Unfortunately, the results didn't necessarily pan out how we wanted but we still had fun up there. The first night I had a good starting spot in eighth. I just think I was way to tight. I was trying to compensate on how slick the dirt was getting but then it ended up getting rough so I was kind of caught in a sticky situation. I was just stuck." "The second night, it felt a lot better in the heat race and I almost won it," Tafoya continued. " In the main, we had a right rear shock let go. So I was all over the place and on the verge of being out of control, so I brought it in early." Tafoya, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will now look to build on that experience as he tackles one of the biggest stages of the season at Perris Auto Speedway. "I really do not think about it once I am inside the racecar," Tafoya said when asked about racing in front of big crowds. "It is definitely cool to see afterwards when the people come down and appreciate the things we do. We are definitely small compared to a lot of other motorsports so its nice to have some recognition." - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Heads North for Labor Day Weekend Tripleheader
Chino Hills, CA — August 28, 2025 — For the first time since 2021, Chino Hills, California, sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. is heading to Northern California for three big races over Labor Day weekend. The now-veteran driver will kick things off this Saturday and Sunday, August 30th and 31st, competing in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 14th Annual Louie Vermeil Classic at the legendary Calistoga Speedway. On Labor Day Monday, he'll make the short trip to Petaluma Speedway to battle with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The weekend at Calistoga is one of the most highly anticipated events on the West Coast in 2025. Shuttered since 2019, the picturesque half-mile clay oval seemed doomed until the city purchased the fairgrounds property, bringing racing back to the historic venue. For 28-year-old Tafoya, it will be just his second trip to Calistoga. The last time he raced there came on September 1, 2019 — the track's final event before the shutdown — during the season he earned USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year honors. That night he qualified 16th in a 24-car field, started 16th, and finished 15th in the main event. His most recent outing at Petaluma Speedway came in 2021, when he placed 11th in the USAC/CRA main event on the tight 3/8-mile clay oval after returning from a summer racing stint in Indiana. Tafoya heads north after an impressive performance two weeks ago at Perris Auto Speedway. A violent qualifying crash left his car badly damaged, but he and his crew went to work immediately, thrashing in the pits to get the #51T ready for his heat race. Forced to start at the rear of both his heat and the 30-lap main due to not recording a qualifying time, Tafoya charged forward spectacularly. After starting eighth in his eight-lap heat race, he advanced to fourth in the heat. In the main, he started 24th, steered his car impressively through the pack, and avoided the on-track chaos. All told, he passed 16 cars in the feature to finish 8th and capture the In Memory of Jim and Chet Gardner Hard Charger Award. Fans unable to make the trip to Northern California can catch both nights of the Louie Vermeil Classic live on Flo Racing, with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. PDT. Tafoya can be followed on Instagram at @eddietafoya51. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Set to Return to Action at Perris, Calistoga, and Placerville
Chino Hills, CA — August 4, 2025 — After a brief summer break, Eddie Tafoya Jr. is ready to get back behind the wheel when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to Perris Auto Speedway on Saturday, August 16th. The race marks the beginning of a busy late-summer schedule for the driver of the Specialty Fasteners #51T. Following the Perris event, Tafoya and the team will head north for one of the most anticipated weekends in recent sprint car history — the grand re-opening of the legendary Calistoga Speedway on August 30th and 31st. The doubleheader promises to be a major highlight on the USAC/CRA calendar. Then, on September 1st, Tafoya will cap off the Labor Day holiday weekend by competing with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Placerville Speedway. Prior to the break, Tafoya raced at his home track, Perris Auto Speedway, on July 19th — just 10 days after celebrating his 28th birthday. Though the final result wasn't what he'd hoped for, the Southern California veteran showed speed and poise throughout the night. He qualified a strong seventh fastest out of 21 cars with a lap of 16.875. In his heat race, the 2018 PAS Young Gun Champion and 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year started and finished fourth in a stacked field. That set him up in the seventh position for the 30-lap main event. In front of the second-largest crowd of the season, Tafoya jumped into a fierce battle for fifth place early in the main. Showing the speed to challenge for a top-four spot, his momentum was unfortunately stalled by lapped traffic. After clearing a slower car, Tafoya's night took an unfortunate turn when he came to a stop in turn one, ending his charge. Despite the setback, Tafoya's performance showed his car and confidence are in the right place heading into the late-season stretch. "I just have to eliminate the mistakes and figure how to get around traffic when it gets slick like that," Tafoya said. "I was dealing with traffic and switching lines every lap. The lapper would go to where I switched to. I was just kind of going back and forth. I finally got a good run down the front straight. I just held it on a little longer than I should have just to get around the lapper. Then I got in the slick and locked up the brakes and slid to a stop." Forced to restart at the back of the field with only limited laps remaining, the odds were stacked against him. But Tafoya wasn't done. He mounted a determined comeback, charging through the field and clawing his way back to a 10th-place finish at the checkered flag — a clear indicator of the team's pace and persistence. "I thought for a second there we were going to start on the front row again (after qualifying), but we missed it by .01," Tafoya commented about the night of racing. "That definitely could have changed the way that main event went for us." "I am happy with the speed, and I think I have been driving good," he continued. "I just have to focus and put it all together on the same night. I have been trying to put myself in a good position and we have been doing that lately. Part of it is mental and part is car set up and stuff like that. Knowing that you have enough to be up there, we have definitely been showing that lately." Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting their 2025 racing endeavors. - Eddie Tafoya Jr. Looks for First 2025 Win at Perris Auto Speedway This Saturday
Chino, CA - July 17, 2025 — Coming off his best Perris Auto Speedway finish of the 2025 season, a fifth-place result on June 21st, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will return to the Riverside County half-mile clay oval this Saturday night, July 19th. Spectator gates at the 29-year old speed plant will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first race will be at 7:00. For Tafoya, who recently celebrated his 28th birthday, it will be his fifth start of 2025 at Perris. In the first four races at the track this year, he has achieved three top-10 finishes. Besides his fifth-place showing last month, he came home eighth at the track on April 5th and was ninth in the annual Salute to Indy at the end of May. His fifth-place run last month equaled his performance at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway on February 22nd. The only race at Perris this year that he did not finish in the top 10 occurred on March 1st, when his belts came loose in the car, and he finished 13th. Before the 30-lap main event last month, Tafoya qualified sixth fastest in the 20 car field. He then placed fourth in his 10-lap heat race. The Chino Hills, California resident started on the pole and led the first seven laps of the main event. He ended up taking fifth after a tough battle for positions five through 10 late in the race. On Saturday, Tafoya, the 2018 Perris Auto Speedway Young Guns Sprint Car Champion and the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year, will only be making his third July appearance at the local track since the end of Covid. In 2021, he finished third in the July race on the oval affectionately known as The PAS, and last year he was seventh. In 2022 and 2023, he spent July racing with the USAC National Sprint Car Series in the Midwest. To see Tafoya and the rest of the USAC/CRA stars in action on Saturday, spectator gates open at 5:00 p.m., and the first green flag will wave at 7:00.
