- EDDIE TAFOYA JR. HAS A DIFFERENT NIGHT AT THE PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SPRINT CAR OPENER
(Chino, CA, March 6, 2025) Three weeks after it was initially planned, Perris Auto Speedway finally hosted its first Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car race of the 2025 season last Saturday night. One of the racers in the challenging 25-car field was Eddie Tafoya Jr. The veteran driver had a good start to the night before a crazy faux pas saw him end up 13th in the main event. As always, Tafoya, 27, was in the stunningly beautiful #51T that stands out from the rest of the cars in the pit area. Time trials saw the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year stop the clocks at 16.668 on the cold, windy night. That was the seventh quickest time of the evening on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. That put him inside the second row in the first heat race. Tafoya steered the Rider Racing Engine/DRC to a third-place finish in the tough 10-lapper. Tafoya's third-place finish in the heat garnered him the same inside row two starting spot for the 30-lap main event. It also gave the team high hopes for Perris' first sprint feature of the 2025 campaign. However, he mysteriously started to slip backward early in the race. "I finally put together the first half of the night and put myself in a good position," Tafoya lamented. "I took the green flag and actually my lap belt popped loose. I have never had that happen. So, I did not even think about stopping, I was just thinking about not coming out (of the car). Unfortunately, it took seven laps or whatever it was to get to a caution so I could fix it. By that time I was in eighth." "After that, I was just messing around with people too long. My car was missing the setup a little bit. Kind of deceiving (the track) when we run with the hobby stocks and stuff like that. It definitely wasn't tight enough (the car) and the seat belt coming loose did not help at all. It all just kind of fell apart really quick." Tafoya, who first raced at Perris when he won the track's Young Gun Sprint Car title in 2018, ended up in a very entertaining mid pack battle. The cars involved in that war see-sawed back and forth as they jockeyed for position in the 30-lapper. In the end, he came out with a disappointing, but hard earned, 13th place finish. "I do, but starting up front it was pretty frustrating not staying up there," Tafoya answered when queried if he likes racing in a tight pack. "I really didn't enjoy it too much while going backwards. It was definitely hard racing back there. Once you get hard racing mid-pack, you get slid and try to turn down, and there are two or three guys there with you. Stuff starts happening pretty quick." Things can happen quickly as Tafoya said, but, like usual, the smooth racer rolled his immaculate car into the hauler at the end of the chilly evening. Despite not racing for points, Tafoya is ranked eighth after two races in the USAC/CRA Series. With the exception of planning to compete in all of the Perris races, Tafoya does not have a set schedule in 2025. The team will race when it wants to. A lot depends on his parents' work schedule, and how many jobs his father has lined up. If things work out, he hopes to head to Indiana this year to race with the USAC National Sprint Car Series. Tafoya's next planned race will be April 5th when the USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Cars return to their home track in Perris. Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its 2025 racing endeavors. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. IS BACK ON HIS HOME TRACK, PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY
(Chino, CA, February 27, 2025) For the first time in 2025 after a race, Eddie Tafoya Jr. will finally get to sleep in his own bed this Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars visit Perris Auto Speedway. Last Saturday, night Tafoya recorded a well-earned fifth-place finish when the series opened its season at the Mohave Valley Raceway. That was the seventh race of the year for Tafoya with the first six being in Florida before last week's battle in Arizona. Starting the 30-lap main event in the 10th position on the 1/3 of a mile banked clay oval, Tafoya came charging in the final third of the race. Running around the ninth and 10th place spots through the halfway point, late in the affair the 27-year-old driver came on like a champion boxer in the late rounds. He steered the gorgeous #51T into seventh on lap 18. Manning the low line, he was still in seventh on lap 26, but picked off two more spots to place fifth The result gave Tafoya his third top-10 finish in six lifetime starts at Mohave. It was his best performance at the track since he came home third in his first race at the facility on April 23, 2022. Earlier in the night, getting to the A main took some extra work for the talented Chino Hills, California driver. He qualified 10 fastest with a 14.303. However, it came at a cost! The torque ball backed off during qualifying forcing the crew to change the entire torque tube and bell housing. In doing so, Tafoya was forced to miss his heat race while the crew thrashed on the car. With the repairs made, Tafoya started on the outside of row one in the 12-lap B main. He had to finish in the top six to transfer into the 30-lap A. He did that with room to spare by placing third and earning his e-ticket to drive in the 30-lap war. The fifth-place finish also sees Tafoya sitting in fifth in the series championship standings coming into the Perris race. The likeable driver will only be 19-points out of first place when he drives through the pit gate in the afternoon. In 2024, Tafoya started nine races at Perris. He had six top 10 finishes. His best outing came on September 21st when he placed sixth. He hopes to beat that result on Saturday. Spectator gates at Perris will open at 5:00 p.m. and the racing will get underway at 7:00. Tickets for Saturday's race are $35.00 for those ages 13 and over. Seniors 65 and over get in for $30.00. For kids 6-12, it is $10.00, and children five and under are free. With a small convenience fee, advance tickets are available online at tix.com or by calling 1-800-595-4849. For fans who do not want to purchase advance tickets, plenty will be available at the ticket window on race night. The fairgrounds charge $20.00 for parking. The PAS is conveniently located on the freeway close Lake Perris Fairgrounds, home of the Southern California Fair, in nearby Riverside County. Take the 215 freeway. Exit at the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds. For directions online, the address to enter is 18700 Lake Perris Drive, and the zip code is 92571. - JAKE SWANSON RETURNS HOME TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
(Perris, CA, February 26, 2025) Fresh off a win in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series at the Mohave Valley Raceway last Saturday night, Southern California native Jake Swanson plans on being in three places when he jets back to the "Golden State" this week. Those three places are the drive-through window at an In N' Out Burgers, Mexican restaurants, and, most importantly, the victory circle at Perris Auto Speedway. The past Anaheim resident, who is now based out of Indiana, will be taking on the stars from the USAC/CRA series for the second week in a row. In addition to the powerful 410 sprint cars, the PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprints will also be in action along with the PASSCAR Street Stocks and Factory Stocks. Saturday's show will be the first sprint car race at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval since last November. Three weeks ago, on February 8th, the series was slated to open its 21st season at the track. However, persistent rain heading into that date left the infield looking like a mini version of nearby Lake Perris. That left track and series officials with no choice but to postpone the race, which will now be made up on November 1st. At Mohave, 31-year-old Swanson drove for the powerhouse Inland Rigging Team owned by Tom and Christy Dunkel. He will drive the same #17X car this week. It will be on the track where he cut his sprint car teeth when he captured the USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year title 13 years ago and where he scored his first USAC National Sprint Car Series win in an Oval Nationals preliminary in 2021. "They definitely have some of the best equipment out there," said Swanson, who first steered an Inland Rigging car for the Dunkel's in 2024. "He has put together a world-class operation when it comes to a sprint car team. They have the right people in place. The people who maybe do not have all of the experience are being trained in the right way. It is really cool to be a part of a program for somebody who really, genuinely cares about seeing it succeed and they are willing to do whatever it takes to do it in the right way." "They have entrusted me to work on the car a lot, and they have entrusted Jimmy May and Charlie Butcher to work on the cars. They have done a great job in training Aiden (the Dunkel's son). He is a young kid, but he is learning really, really quick. To see the amount of notes he makes when I am in town is pretty impressive. There are a handful of others, and everybody works really hard." "I couldn't be more excited," Swanson enthused about coming back to race where his sprint car career started. "I always love coming back to Perris. I always tell people that, in my opinion, it is the greatest racetrack in the country. It puts on some of the greatest races in all of the country. The fans are lucky to have that and watch the CRA stuff. I just wish we could share it to more of the country." While the quick trip west will mostly be about racing, Swanson has some yens to settle while in the Southland. "I pretty much have a strict diet of tacos and In N' Out in California," he laughed when asked what he looks forward to when he returns to So Cal. "I love the beach, but I don't get there very often. The Mexican food is definitely top tier on my list." Swanson, who is as busy off the track as he is on, plans to contest the entire USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Series in 2025. He got off to a fine start in that series two weeks ago in Florida. In six races, driving his own car that features Inland Rigging as its prime sponsor, he placed in the top 10 five times with a best finish at the Ocala Speedway on the 12th. The results will see him eighth in points when the series picks up at Indiana's Paragon Speedway on April 4th. As well as racing in the National Sprint Car Series, Swanson will steer a car owned by past racer and noted car builder Bob East in the USAC Silver Crown Series. His first run in that car will come at the Terre Haute Action Track on April 13th. And when time permits, much to the chagrin of the USAC/CRA regulars, he will be back in the Inland Rigging #17X whenever he can get a break from his busy National schedule. That includes this Saturday at Perris, and the March 14th and 15th series show during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway. In addition to 50-plus nights of National Sprint Cars and the Silver Crown ride, Swanson also hopes to get in some wing racing this year. He still does not have anything ironed out yet, but he has some plans in the works to do that. However, he has been so busy building up his USAC national team and other businesses that he has not yet set anything in stone. After last week's rainout, sprint cars and stock cars will begin their 2025 season at The PAS when the track hosts the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series along with the PAS Young Gun & Senior Sprints and the PASSCAR Street and Factory Stocks on March 1st. (Chino, CA, February 21, 2025) In the last three weeks, sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. has only been home for three days. Most of the time away he was on the road driving to the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car races in Florida and then turning around and heading back to his Chino Hills, California home. Saturday morning, he will be back on the road for the 240-mile trek to Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway for the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series 21st season opener. Tafoya, 27, faced a grueling schedule racing six straight nights in the "Sunshine State." The first two evenings were at the Volusia Speedway Park. He followed those races with four nights of high-speed competition at the Ocala Speedway. While fast the first three nights, including the ninth quickest time in qualifying at the Volusia opener, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year missed the transfer from the B to the A main by one spot two times. Things fared better for Tafoya and the #51T in the final three races at Ocala when he made the A main each time. "It was good," Tafoya commented on his Florida trip. "We came out of the gate swinging. We were 10th in hot laps and ninth in qualifying (at the first race at Volusia). I found myself one spot out every time I was on the track whether it was a heat race or a B main. At Ocala, I missed the first night (main). We took what we learned and put it towards the next nights and made the next three mains. So, that was good." Making the main event at Ocala can be tough on someone who does not have a lot of laps on the track. Tafoya fits that bill well, having only raced on the track two times previously in 2023. The track is an odd shape and its two ends are totally different. "It is definitely awkward, I guess you could say," Tafoya spoke about Ocala. "One and two is real sweeping and bouncy. Three and four is more you have to pitch it sideways and drive off. You have to get in tune with the track and get in tune to what your car is going to do." Tafoya and his father, past sprint car racer Eddie Tafoya Sr., started the cross-country return trip home last Sunday and arrived at their Chino Hills residence at about 9:30 on Wednesday. By Thursday, it was back in the shop to prepare the car for this weekend's battle in Arizona. "Luckily, I kept my nose clean while we were out there," Tafoya happily said. "So, just normal maintenance for this week. "Washing and stuff like that. We should be getting it turned around here quickly. We were in a good spot (performance-wise) when we left off. So, we should not have to do too much." Racing against the national series drivers pits Tafoya against the best traditional racers in the world. Competing with them fine-tunes his performances for when he races in the West. One of the differences he notes racing against the national drivers is you cannot wait. If you do, you are going to pay. "It is definitely different," Tafoya said when comparing the national vs western drivers. "Here, you kind of feel everyone out and see what they are going to do and where they are going to go. If you do that there, they are going to be gone. There is no catching them. There is no downtime to figure anything out. You have just got to go." "We have some good momentum coming in and I just need to keep driving like I did there," the well-spoken driver said. "If I do, we should be in a good spot. I think we will have a good show at Mohave. We are usually a real good car out of the box when we get there. I think the only times I have not run good there is when I have had motor issues." In six previous races at Mohave, Tafoya's best finish was a third-place result in April of 2023. In three appearances at the Arizona dirt track in 2024, his best outing was a sixth in April. The Florida trip saw the drivers on the track for seven consecutive nights. A night of practice at Ocala before racing six nights in a row. However, the team had a little bit of time for some fun. "Luckily, we got there two days early, so we went to the Supercross race in Tampa," Tafoya laughed. "We did a gator boat one morning and some local stuff when we had some time. We were staying on the beach at Daytona, so it was just kind of nice to hang out, relax, and get ready for the week." Adult tickets for Saturday's race at Mohave Valley, which is located five minutes from the Colorado River and 20 minutes from downtown Laughlin, Nevada, are $25.00. Kids' tickets are $15.00, and children 5 and under are free. Parking is free. Spectator gates will open at 3:30 on Saturday, and the first race will take the green flag at 5:30. The Mohave Valley Raceway is located at 2750 Laguna Road in Mohave Valley, Arizona. The track's website is https://www.mohavevalleyraceway.com/. The office phone number is 928-346-3000. After Saturday, Tafoya will return to action when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars race a mere 36 miles from his home at Perris Auto Speedway Fans can follow Tafoya on Instagram eddietafoya51. Tafoya and the #51T team would like to thank Specialty Fasteners, BR Motorsports, King Racing Products, Gasper Transportation, CMI Precision Machining, Owen's Insurance Services, Keen Concrete, DRC Chassis, and Rider Racing Engines for supporting its 2025 racing endeavors. - EDDIE TAFOYA JR. HEADS TO FLORIDA FOR USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CAR SERIES OPENERS
(Chino, CA, February 5, 2025) Being out of the saddle for three months, Southern California racer Eddie Tafoya Jr. was getting anxious for some sprint car action. On Tuesday morning, he and his father, Eddie Tafoya Sr., began to scratch that itch when they pointed the Specialty Fasteners team hauler east and began a trek from one side of the country to the other to participate in USAC Winter Dirt Games XVI in Florida. Beginning on Monday night February 9th, Tafoya will be competing against the best traditional sprint car drivers in the country for six straight nights. Tafoya and his father were making the cross-country journey alone and planned on arriving in Florida on Friday afternoon. After watching Supercross in Tampa on Saturday, it would be seven straight nights of work, beginning with a Sunday night practice session at the Ocala Speedway. From there, the team will make the one-hour journey east to Barberville and the high-speed 56-year-old Volusia County Speedway half-mile. Tafoya will race there on Monday the 10th and Tuesday the 9th. After the Tuesday race at Volusia, Tafoya will head back to Ocala to begin four straight nights of competition on the 3/8 mile Ocala oval. After Saturday's race, the team will return to its Southern California base. Winter Dirt Games is nothing new for Chino Hills, California veteran driver Tafoya. Two years ago, the 2019 USAC/CRA Rookie of the Year made his first trip to the land of alligators and swamps for his initial raid on Winter Dirt Games. He was knocked out of the first race with a fuel problem, and another night was lost to rain. Of the three nights he got in, he qualified for the A main two times. He ended up with a 13th at Volusia after starting 16th. Four nights later he finished 21st on the tricky Ocala track. While cruising through Las Cruces, New Mexico on Tuesday, Tafoya took the time to talk about the upcoming races. "I like Volusia a lot," the talented 27-year-old racer enthused. "It is big and fast. It is in my wheelhouse of tracks I like to go to. Ocala is fun, it is just a lot more challenging setup wise. You have to take good notes and make sure you are doing the right thing to find grip around that place. It is one of the few places you go to where you kind of have to set up your car for one half of the track and just deal with the other half because they are so different. It definitely makes you a better driver. You have to figure out how to manipulate your race car." " I am pretty stoked," Tafoya continued when asked about starting the season in the "Sunshine State." "We decided to do something different. We had a break last year and decided to stay home. We thought about it over this off season and kind of had an itch to go National racing again. We race so many nights in a row, it is kind of a good way to jump start the season and get into gear quick." Racing six nights a week in any class is a grind and requires a lot of extra attention. The week in Florida will be taxing on the driver and his team making sure everything is perfect when he hits the track. "Probably just making sure everything is good to go every night," Tafoya mentioned when asked what was the hardest part of racing six straight nights. "We have a pretty small crew. So, we have to take the whole first half of the day to do some maintenance and all of that fun stuff and make sure we are ready to go for the night. Hopefully, we do not tear too much stuff up, and we get some good seat time." Like he said, the crew is small. He and his father, Eddie Sr., a one-time draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are making the cross-country drive by themselves. Malyssa Young will join the team when she flies into Florida. The beautiful #51T Tafoya will be wheeling is the same car he raced in USAC/CRA in 2024. Over the winter, he framed it and completely rebuilt it to make sure everything is fresh, tight, and square to give himself a good start to the 2025 campaign. After Florida, Tafoya is not sure what his plans will be for the rest of the 10-month campaign. While he hopes to make all of the races at Perris, starting in Florida comes at a cost. The first Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA series opener at Perris is the same night as the Florida finale. Race #2 of the USAC/CRA season will take place at Arizona's Mohave Valley Raceway just seven days later on February 22nd. Fans who cannot make it to Florida for the Winter Dirt Games can watch all of the action on Flo Racing at the following link: https://flosports.link/usac. They can also listen live on the USAC app or online at http://mixlr.com/usac-official/. - Davenport Outduels Overton at Ocala
OCALA, FL (February 6, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport secured his second consecutive Wieland Winter Nationals feature on Thursday night at Ocala Speedway, as the three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series National Champion fended off Brandon Overton to capture the $10,000 victory. The final results will show that Davenport led all 40 laps, but Overton caught up to Davenport as they approached the white flag. However, he could never pass him to steal the win from his fellow Georgian, who triumphed by 0.538 seconds at the finish line. Kyle Bronson achieved his best series finish of the year, taking third, followed by Brandon Sheppard and Devin Moran, who rounded out the top five drivers. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the 85th time in his career, Davenport also was victorious at Ocala for the fifth time in his career, the most all-time for any late model driver during Speedweeks at the egg-shaped track. "He (Overton) made me more worried than I should have been. I didn't know he was coming like that at the very end. It was kind of slimy around the bottom, so he just kept chasing it down and blowing it out. That was why I didn't think we could move, and since I was in the front, I couldn't tell what everyone else was doing. Once I got to the lapped cars, I didn't think I could pass any on the outside. I think they finally rolled in a little of that slime through one and two. It was a little better through the middle, but it was kind of bumpy. As long as your car wouldn't bounce too badly, I guess that was why he got that good run. Other than that, I was just blocking." Overton, in his return to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series in 2025, was the third different driver to run second during the 40-lap race, joining Sheppard and Bronson in that category. "I I felt like I was doing everything I could. I almost made a move on him there, but I just got my right rear quarter-panel in the wall and couldn't get low enough to take the lead. It was an awesome race. If the fans didn't enjoy that, they might as well stop coming. The wins are on the way. I feel like I have the best crew in the business. I just want to win one; I mean, we're really close to winning one." Bronson, looking for his first series win since taking the Silver Dollar Nationals in 2021, regained the third position on lap 33 to round out the Big River Steel Podium. "It definitely feels good to get a good finish. I have been down on myself a little bit. We've got everything we need to win; we just need to put the right pieces in the right places and go after it." The winner's Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dyna-Gro Seed, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten were Spencer Hughes, Ross Robinson, Tyler Bruening, Tanner English, and Dillon McCowan. - Davenport Secures First Lucas Oil Victory of 2025
OCALA, FL (February 5, 2025) - Jonathan Davenport secured his first Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing victory of the season on Wednesday at the Wieland Winter Nationals held at Ocala Speedway. The Blairsville, Georgia native earned $7,000 for his 84th career series win. Last year's O'Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year, Drake Troutman, who started in ninth place, traded positions with defending series champion Ricky Thornton Jr. for second place in the final two laps, securing the runner-up spot at the finish line. Thornton finished third, while Tim McCreadie and Brandon Overton rounded out the top five drivers. Davenport started from the pole position and took the lead as soon as the green flag dropped. In the first five laps, there were two caution flags while Overton maintained second place behind the three-time series champion. The final 24 laps ran without caution as Thornton, driving a brand-new car, moved into second place, passing Overton on lap 18. With heavy traffic in front of the leader, Thornton was able to close the gap between himself and Davenport with ten laps to go. Meanwhile, Troutman had reached third by using the top line around the track, moving the G.R. Smith entry to third on lap 21. As Davenport navigated through traffic, the battle for second place was heating up between Thornton and Troutman. The two swapped the second position a couple of times in the last two laps, with Troutman managing to edge out Thornton at the finish. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the first time this season, Davenport also became the first driver in six races this year to lead every lap in the main event, winning for the fourth time in his career at Ocala. "The pace is so slow in turn four, and you feel like you're crawling around the bottom. You feel like you're spinning your wheels going around the top. We really didn't know what to do. I saw Brandon (Overton) starting to run the top down here (in three and four) and start passing some cars. I got around a couple of lapped cars, and I kind of died a little bit because the outside of turn one is wider. I don't know we still have a little bit of work to do. Man, we have been really consistent. I am just proud of my guys they have done a good job for me." Troutman got his best finish of the season, taking the runner-up spot in a hard-fought battle with Thornton. "Man, I put my crew through the wringer last week at All-Tech. No, it's pretty awesome you know we've got a pretty good car. The track was awesome tonight, and it widened out there. I hope we put on a good show for the fans and hopefully get a little bit better for tomorrow night." Thornton, who took Tuesday night's race off to finish up his new Longhorn Chassis, rounded out the Big River Steel Podium in third. "I need to get up on the wheel harder and longer I guess. I was just riding there behind (Brian) Shirley, and I messed up I think twice and let Troutman get by me and then I don't know. We all got through traffic pretty good you could kind of move high or low, there at the beginning really didn't know if I needed to be on the top of one and two or not. I tried it right away and lost a couple of spots. Overall, it was a great night, the first night on this thing. Hopefully, we can have a good run tomorrow and qualify well. Starting up front is kind of a premium here because everyone is really good, and the way the shape is here, you can really manipulate your car really well." The winner's Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Nutrien Ag Solutions, Dyna-Gro Seed, ASC Warranty, Mark Martin Automotive, and Mega Plumbing of the Carolinas. Completing the top ten were Daulton Wilson, Hudson O'Neal, Ross Robinson, Mark Whitener, and Max Blair. - Moran takes Wieland Winter Nationals Opener at Ocala
OCALA, FL (February 4, 2025) - Devin Moran continued his winning ways with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series presented by FloRacing, capturing the 30-lap $7,000 Wieland Winter Nationals main event on Tuesday night at Ocala Speedway. Moran took the lead on lap 24 from Brandon Overton, who had led the first 23 laps, as the Dresden, Ohio driver secured his 17th career series victory. Overton, who fell back to third on a restart with five laps remaining, managed to get around Jonathan Davenport with two laps left. He then closed in on Moran at the end, finishing just .0264 seconds behind. Davenport secured the final spot on the Big River Steel Podium in third. The rest of the top five consisted of Carson Ferguson and Hudson O'Neal. In Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the second time in his career at Ocala and the second consecutive time this season, Moran recalls his early-week successes in previous years at Easy Bay. "Just like for the Winternationals at East Bay, I felt I was really good the first night, so bringing that over to Bubba's place is awesome, and taking his money is great too. As I mentioned earlier tonight, I thought the track would be pretty good, and it did seem good. Turns out, one and two finally started to come in once it slowed down. He (Overton) finally caught lapped traffic, which threw him off a bit. I've watched a lot of film and seen how to take different lines here to gain speed. I tried them all and finally found one that worked. It was really cool to get the first win of the week here. I wish it was a points night, but that's alright. We'll take the money and get ready for the rest of the week." Overton, who started on the Victory Fuel Pole, led unchallenged for the first 20 laps of the race until traffic started to play a part as a long stretch of green flag racing allowed Moran and Davenport to make it a three-way battle for the top spot. "I I was just trying to outsmart them on that restart. I figured he (Moran) would go to the bottom in turns one and two, but he went to the top on that restart, which really threw me off. I just wheelied and pushed and got back behind JD, and I was able to enter a little lower than everyone else in three. We had a good enough car to win. I just got too close to the lapped car and spun the tires leaving turn two. It was just one of those nights when running second felt better than being out front. So, we'll take it; we are making gains every day." Davenport created an exciting three-car battle before the caution flag waved with 25 laps completed. He briefly took second place when Overton slipped up the track on the restart, but Overton managed to pass him again on the final lap. "I I thought I had passed Overton before the caution, but they said I wasn't ahead of him that lap. We had a great race there. They got a bit held up in lapped traffic and I caught up to them. I found the top down on that end and we were just a little better. We tried something new tonight, but I don't think it worked as well. We know what we need to do to improve for tomorrow and the rest of the week. It's sunny in Florida, and it's 80 degrees; we're all having a good time down here." The winner's Double Down Motorsports Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, C&W Trucking, Red Oak Pub, Bomag, Anthony's Pizza, Millwood Plumbing, CarSourceAuto.com, Refuel Wellness, Pee Wee's Wrecker Service, McHugh, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, Eibach Springs, Smoky Mountain Speedway, and Haulin' Haskell's. Completing the top ten were Tyler Erb, Max Blair, Wil Herrington, Tim McCreadie, and Jimmy Owens.
