- Riding High! GLSS Champion, Ridenour Snaps Five Year Winless Streak at Tri City Friday
Auburn, MI - In five years, almost to the day, since Chase Ridenour last went to victory lane, a lot has changed. Ridenour was with a different team. Smith Motorsports was en route to their first career Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP Championship. Phil Gressman was the defending Champion, and the world was pulling itself together amid a Global pandemic. Ridenour led the field to green alongside Mike Keegan. The pair battled closely on the opening lap for who would take hold of the field early. Ridenour put his No.38 to the pin and began his pursuit of the back of the field. Turns one and two were uniquely different from that of turns three and four at Tri-City on Friday night. The bottom was in early around the entire race track, but quickly the top of one and two became the preferred line and the bottom was the place to be in three and four. Keegan found that combination first and took the lead momentarily near the halfway point of the race, but Ridenour quickly crossed Keegan over in lapped traffic and was back out front. With less than 10 laps to go, Ridenour took lapped traffic three-wide to gap himself back to Jared Horstman and Dustin Daggett who had worked around Keegan in the traffic. Three former GLSS Champions at the front of the field was a thrill for a nearly packed house. With traffic clear inside of five laps to go, Horstman began reeling in Ridenour, but ran out of time as the Perry, Michigan native grabbed his first win since August 19, 2020 at Hartford Speedway. Horstman held on for second ahead of Daggett, Max Stambaugh fourth, and Keegan fifth. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP is Sunday, August 31st at Crystal Motor Speedway for the final points race of the 2025 season. Stambaugh is likely to be crowned the Tour Champion for the fourth consecutive season, while Jared Horstman hopes to hold on for the MacAllister CAT Championship. Fans who can't make the trip can watch the action on GreatLakeSprints.TV. Phil Gressman won the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race One was won by Jared Horstman. Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat Race Two was won by Steve Irwin. Miami Paint Heat Race Three was won by Chase Ridenour. MacAllister Cat A Feature 1: 1. 38-Chase Ridenour[1]; 2. 17-Jared Horstman[4]; 3. 85-Dustin Daggett[6]; 4. 71H-Max Stambaugh[7]; 5. - Dryden & Christie Defend Canadian Turf in GLSS Invaision of Ontario
South Buxton, ON, CAN - For the second straight year, the Great Lakes Super Sprints (GLSS) Presented by PERFIT & ARP went international with trips to Ohsweken Speedway and Buxton Speedway in Ontario, Canada. This year, however, the stakes were higher for the American teams who made the trip through customs. A full slate of Tour Points was on the line both Friday and Saturday night. Friday's event at Ohsweken Speedway was one for the memory bank with track conditions unlike anything seen at Ohsweken Speedway in at least a decade. Heavy rain throughout the week led to a rough and technical surface that played right into the hands of drivers who were able to "cowboy up" and take on the challenging surface. Darren Dryden and Liam Martin were scheduled to lead the field to the green flag, however, Dryden jumped the initial start, moving him back a row, and giving Nick Sheridan the outside front row alongside Martin. Sheridan snuck around the outside and led the opening lap before Martin put his No.9 at the point on lap two. Meanwhile, Dryden was defending his third spot from Dylan Westbrook before he took on Sheridan for the second spot when Sheridan tried to make a move for the lead for the lead. In turns one and two, Dryden put his No.12DD back out front. On lap nine, trouble struck for Liam Martin when he got bucked out of turn four and leaped over the inside wall in turn four. Martin was unable to continue. Dryden had no issue on two restarts that followed prior to the 10-lap-to-go mark. Then, with four to go, the race was stopped when Tyler Powless flipped in turn four just in front of Dryden, who was able to avoid the flipping No.77T. On the restart, Dryden drove away to collect his first career win at Ohsweken Speedway and his second ever win with GLSS. Then, on Saturday at Buxton Speedway, Ryan Turner and D.J. Christie led the field to the green flag. Christie jumped out to the early lead, leaving Turner to try and defend his second spot. Coming to complete lap two, Liam Martin and Skyler Evans got together in turns three and four, sending Evans into the spin cycle and collecting Dylan Westbrook in the process. Another restart with 20 laps to go brought the field back together just as Christie was preparing to navigate lapped traffic. The remaining 20 laps went green, forcing Christie to work his way through heavy lapped traffic while holding off Turner. The track record holder at Crystal Motor Speedway closed to within a half second in traffic, but couldn't reel in Christie in the closing laps. D.J. Chrisite held on for his first career GLSS win. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints is Friday, August 29th, at Tri City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Michigan. Then, the Championship event is Sunday, August 31st, at Crystal Motor Speedway. Jared Horstman will try to hold on to the MacAllister CAT Division points lead, while Max Stambaugh hopes to steal the third piece of the GLSS trifecta while securing his fourth consecutive GLSS Tour title. Fans who can't make the trip this weekend can catch the action both Friday and Sunday on GreatLakesSprints.TV. For more on the Great Lakes Super Sprints, visit GreatLakesSprints.com. - Stambaugh Notches 8th GLSS Win, Opens Championship Lead Heading to Final Month
Crystal, MI - When the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP entered the weekend, Max Stambaugh and Jared Horstman were separated by roughly a dozen points for the GLSS Tour Championship. In the MacAllister CAT Division, Horstman held an over 100 point advantage for the Championship prior to Friday's race at I-96 Speedway. Now, after Saturday's race at Crystal Motor Speedway, the battles for Championship honors continue to peak interest. Ryan Turner, who set a new track record in qualifying earlier in the day, led the field to green alongside Stambaugh. Turner kept even with Stambaugh on the bottom of the track for the opening two rotations before Stambaugh's No.71H began clicking off big laps around the cushion. Behind him, Dustin Daggett and Keith Sheffer, Jr were on the move through traffic. Starting just outside the redraw, Daggett's No.85 rolled off 8th and was quickly into the top five along with Sheffer who started sixth. They raced nose-to-tail around Turner, Devon Dobie, and Jared Horstman. The race set a rapid pace, going green to checkered in just six minutes and 19 seconds. Stambaugh navigated lapped traffic flawlessly and fending off advances from Turner before his No.15 fell to Daggett in the closing laps. "You know, it just played out great," Stambaugh said in victory lane. "Rachel did a good job in the redraw and you know you get yourself here and set sail a little bit. Track was dicy, getting through traffic, I'm sure Daggett might have been closing there. I didn't want to get too careful but I didn't want to go too hard. This win tonight goes out to Anthony [Boyd] (GLSS Scorer). He's been around since 2016 and he just lost his mom, so you hate to lose a loved one, but this one goes to him." After the win, Stambaugh now holds a 65 point advantage on Horstman for the GLSS Tour Championship and moves into second, 70 points behind Horstman for the MacAllister CAT Division Championship. Stambaugh also holds a 135 point lead in the Ohio CAT Division Championship. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints will be the conclusion of the Ohio CAT Division season at Eldora Speedway on Saturday, August 2nd. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action on FloRacing. Ryan Turner earned the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Devon Dobie won Engler Machine & Tool Heat One. Jared Horstman won Beacon and Bridge Markets Heat Two. Keith Sheffer, Jr won Miami Paint Heat Three. Skyler Evans won the B-Main and was the Operating Engineers 324 Hard Charger. Michigan CAT A Feature 1 (25 Laps): 1. 71H-Max Stambaugh[2]; 2. 85-Dustin Daggett[8]; 3. 15-Ryan Turner[1]; 4. 23-Devon Dobie[3]; 5. 17-Jared Horstman[4]; 6. - Thiel Navigates Traffic and Cautions for GLSS Win at I-96
Lake Odessa, MI - When 'The Big Wheel' unloads at I-96 Speedway, he already has it in his mind that something is probably not going to go his way. Friday night with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP, everything went exactly his way. Max Stambaugh and Chase Dunham led the 20-car field to the green flag, whittled down from the 29 cars on the property. Stambaugh led the opening two laps before Dunham put his No.66 to the point. While Dunham looked strong out front, lapped traffic allowed Thiel to close in quickly. On lap 10, the No.51 was out front. The race was far from over from that point, as Thiel had been in that position many times before; out front dominating a GLSS event, when something takes the win away. Behind him though, the battle to be in the top five was fierce, with Dustin Daggett, Stambaugh, Devin Dobie, Dunham, and Keith Sheffer, Jr, all fighting to stay in the top five. Daggett appeared to have the perfect car in traffic, coming from 9th to second in under 10 laps. By the time he got to the runner-up spot, Thiel had a 2.8-second advantage. With eight laps to go, the gap was erased when Jay Steinebach came to a stop down the backstretch. On the restart, Daggett pulled to Thiel's inside in turn one, but the top was too good, and Thiel pulled away down the backstretch and seemed to be on his way to victory lane. A caution flag with six laps to go for Sheffer set up another restart. Thiel had no issue on the start, however, and went on to collect his first career GLSS win and finally earned some redemption at I-96 Speedway. "I-96 in general for me has just been a knife in my back," Thiel said in victory lane. "We've had really really good runs back in the day, and then dumb stuff just happened. I knew I had some unfinished business when I signed up with this [Ragged Edge Racing] team, and we struggled a little bit a few times coming here, and we worked really really hard to make sure when we came back [we] not only win but go prove a point, mainly to ourselves." Daggett held on for the second spot and was very excited about the speed he found in his car that night in, which was actually the car Andy Teunessen had been driving. Daggett joked on the front stretch that he "didn't think Andy is getting his car back." The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints is Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway. Gates open at 4:00 PM with Racing set to begin at 7:00 PM. Michigan CAT A Feature 1 (25 Laps): 1. 51-Scotty Thiel[4]; 2. 85-Dustin Daggett[9]; 3. 71H-Max Stambaugh[1]; 4. 87XS-Skyler Evans[6]; 5. 17-Jared Horstman[17]; 6. 15-Ryan Turner[7]; 7. X-Mike Keegan[11]; 8. 66-Chase Dunham[2]; 9. 23-Devon Dobie[3]; 10. 7C-Phil Gressman[16]; 11. 6-Ryan Coniam[14]; 12. 10S-Jay Steinebach[13]; 13. 49-Brian Ruhlman[15]; 14. 14-Keith Sheffer Jr[5]; 15. 49T-Gregg Dalman[18]; 16. 77E-Ashton VanEvery[20]; 17. 16-Ryan Ruhl[8]; 18. 38-Chase Ridenour[19]; 19. 31-Jac Nickles[10]; 20. 20I-Kelsey Ivy[12]
- Horstman Matches Stambaugh, Earns Fifth Win of 2025 with GLSS
Crystal, MI - As drivers with the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP unloaded at Crystal Motor Speedway on Saturday night, most were preparing for a track unlike what we'd seen to this point in the 2025 season. A track that slicked off through the center, had a small cushion up top, and a technical yet fast bottom groove, put on a thrilling show for fans! Mike Keegan and Jared Horstman led the field to the green flag ahead of the 25 lap main event. On the start, Horstman instantly found the moisture at the top of the race track and had the lead by the exit of turn two. Dustin Daggett moved into the second spot before the first and only caution of the night on lap five. On the restart, Horstman continued to use the top of the race track as his preferred line around the speedway. Meanwhile, Keith Sheffer, Jr was charging from his sixth starting spot and was on the tail of Daggett before setting up a slider that wouldn't clear, forcing Sheffer to regroup after losing several car lengths on Daggett. The top of the race track was fading fast in turns three and four, forcing Horstman to find the rough bottom of the track instead of missing his mark and going over the turn. Heavy lapped traffic brought Daggett and Sheffer back within striking distance in the final five laps, but Horstman was able to drive away once again as Sheffer completed the pass on Daggett for second. Keegan and Chase Dunham rounded out the top five. "This thing was awesome," Horstman said in Victory Lane. "I've gotta thank the crew for this one without them we wouldn't be here. The top got a little treacherous down there in two, and three and four got pretty narrow so I moved it back to the bottom. We were good. I think Max mentioned it last night, this is what this series needs. It's fun racing with Max every night… To go back and forth like this, this is pretty cool." Keith Sheffer, Jr earned the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award Sheffer, Jr won Engler Machine and Tool Heat Race Number One. Mike Keegan won Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat Race Number Two. After having a 12 point deficit coming into the night, Horstman leaves Crystal with an 18 point advantage in the Great Lakes Super Sprints Tour and opens up a 118 point advantage in the MacAllister CAT (Michigan) division over Dustin Daggett. Meanwhile, Stambaugh continues to pace the Ohio CAT division by 106 points over Horstman. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints will be Thursday, July 3rd at Waynesfield Raceway Park for the Let Freedom Ring Night. Racing begins at 7:00 PM. Then, Limaland Motorsports Park hosts GLSS on Friday, July 4th, and Millstream Speedway wraps up the weekend on Saturday, July 5th. - Stambaugh Prevails in Thrilling GLSS Champion's Duel at Tri-City Motor Speedway
Auburn, MI - Many drivers in the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP pit area had been looking for an opportunity to race a smooth, technical track this season. So far, many weekend visits have been hammer down and "pony up". But Tri-City Motor Speedway was just what the Doctor ordered. Max Stambaugh and Kelsey Ivy led the field to the green flag Friday night in front of a packed house in Auburn, MI. Stambaugh took hold of the race lead early while Mike Keegan and Dustin Daggett argued over who would hold down the second spot. After the negotiations for second fell to the liking of Daggett, he set sights on catching Stambaugh in lapped traffic. A defisit that was over 1.2 seconds at one point in the race, was quickly cut down to just four-tenths-of-a-second by the halfway mark. Dicing through traffic, Daggett used every ounce of race track he could find to try and get to Stambaugh's tailtank. As he was setting up a lapped car to get to Stambaugh, the caution flew with just seven laps to go. The pause in the action gave fans a chance to realize who else was now in the picture for a win - four-time feature winner, two-time GLSS Champion, and leader on the all-time wins list at Tri City, Jared Horstman. On the restart, Horstman went straight to the top of the race track while Daggett again went on the hunt for a quick line around Stambaugh, who remained committed to the bottom. Horstman went by Daggett on the top of the race track and but down six money laps trying to outperform his closest championship rival. At the finish, Stambaugh collected his fifth win of the 2025 season while Horstman kept the championship hunt tight by finishing second. Daggett held on for third, Chase Dunham climbed to fourth, and Gregg Dalman came home fifth. Stambaugh won the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Ivy won Engler Machine and Tool Heat Race number 1. Keegan won Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat Race number 2. Daggett won MacAllister CAT Heat Race Number 3. The next event for the MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP is Saturday, June 28th at Crystal Motor Speedway. Gates open at 4:00 PM with racing slated to begin at 5:00 PM. Fans who can't make the trip can catch the action LIVE at GreatLakesSprints.Tv. - Category 4 Hurricane: Horstman Wins Fourth GLSS Feature at I-96 Friday
Lake Odessa, MI - The MacAllister CAT Great Lakes Super Sprints Presented by PERFIT & ARP were back in action at I-96 Speedway Friday night and all eyes were on the two-time GLSS Champion, Jared Horstman. So far in 2025, Horstman has been held out of victory lane in the Mitten State just one time; and the result was second. Rolling off alongside fellow Ohio driver, Jac Nickles, Horstman will technically get credit for leading all 25 laps around the track, but it wasn't a cake walk. Nickels gave everything he could to Horstman on the opening lap, in fact, the naked eye would struggle to accuratley say who led the opening lap at the line. Horstman settled into the top spot, but only for a moment before the first caution flag flew for Jay Steinebach who went up in smoke down the backstretch. Simultaneously, Mike Keegan and Scotty Thiel reported to the work area as the caution flew but were unable to return. Only three more laps were tallied before Chase Ridenour's No.38 lost power exiting turn two, drawing a yellow for the second time. Then, on the restart, Jett Mann made contact with the right rear of Ryan Ruhl, sending Mann for a wild flip off the top of turns one and two. Mann was reportedly checked and released from a nearby hospital after the crash. With 21 laps to go, the field was turned loose once again. Horstman held off Nickles who charged to the inside on the restart but couldn't get the run to get to the front. Meanwhile, Keith Sheffer, Jr, Dustin Daggett, and Max Stambaugh were in a tight battle that saw Sheffer go plus five on the night to finish on the podium yet again. Traffic would prove no issue for Horstman who cut through the backmarkers while maintaining his gap over Nickles. The win was the fourth of the season with GLSS and his 100th career sprint car victory. Dustin Daggett earned the Ti22 Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Daggett won the Engler Machine & Tool Heat Race 1. Horstman won Beacon & Bridge Markets Heat 2. Jac Nickles won MacAllister CAT Heat Race 3. Andy Tuenessen won the Operating Engineers 324 B-Main. Zac Broughman was the Hoosier Racing Tire Hard Charger gaining seven spots. The next event for the Great Lakes Super Sprints is Friday, June 27th at Tri City Motor Speedway in Auburn, MI and Saturday, June 28th at Crystal Motor Speedway in Crystal, MI.
