Woodhull Raceway Dirt Track News
- Hebing Tames Highbanks of Woodhull Raceway
By Curtis Berleue (Woodhull, NY) | Though only running a limited schedule in 2025, Chuck Hebing once again found his way to victory lane at the highbanks of the Woodhull Raceway on Saturday night. 'The Cobra' added one more to his win total, breaking a tie for third with Lance Yonge on the all-time Empire Super Sprints feature win list with his 40th victory. Jason Barney drew the Pinnacle Pole Award and thus led the field to green alongside of Hebing. Hebing used his outside starting position to his advantage, and immediately opened lead over Shawn Donath and Barney. As the laps clicked off, Hebing, Donath and Barney began to separate themselves from the rest of the field. By lap 10, Hebing had reached the back of the field, beginning to navigate lap traffic. Behind Hebing and Donath, Barney, Davie Franek and Jordan Poirier were having a spirited battle for the final podium spot, with Poirier emerging with possession of third place on lap 15. For the second straight night, a non-stop feature with a total run time of less than 7 minutes took place, and ultimately Donath nor Poirier had anything for Hebing as he picked up the win. "Woodhull has been awful good to me over the years," said Hebing in victory lane. "The moisture they put on it made it kinda locked down, but it awas good." "I wanted to retire again, so this is a good way to do it. We had a good career, we'll do some boating now." Shawn Donath picked up a second place finish. "These guys gave me a heck of a racecar," said Donath. "I didn't think anyone was going to try the bottom, but with the conditions they were dealt today, they did a great job with the track." Jordan Poirier finished third, rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium. "We're pretty happy with third, we have struggled here in the past," said Poirier. "We started sixth which is pretty deep, I didn't know how much the track was going to widen out with the water they put on it before the feature but it was actually super racey." With the threat of rain all night, the field was split into two timed hot lap groups with Dylan Swiernik and Jared Zimbardi earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins went to Dylan Swiernik and Davie Franek, and Trevor Years won the Cobra Motorhomes & Trailers dash presented by Grimes Dairy Equipment. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is this coming Friday, August 1st at the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY. - Franek Wins Empire Super Sprints Outlaw Summer Nationals
By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | For the second time in two years, Davie Franek picked up a $4,000 victory at the Outlaw Speedway on Friday night. Last years Outlaw Fall Nationals winner once again found victory lane at the Dundee oval, this time leading every lap in a non-stop feature in the Outlaw Summer Nationals worth $4,000. By virtue of drawing the Pinnacle Pole award, Joe Trenca and Davie Franek led the field to green. As the field reached turn one, it was Franek with the advantage. Behind Franek, Jordan Poirier made quick work of the four cars in front of him, moving from his sixth place starting spot into second behind Franek. Dalton Rombough followed in third. Two laps later, Rombough was able to sneak by Poirier to take second. The lead duo would remain the same for the next several laps, all working the high side of the speedway. Behind the leaders, Dylan Swiernik was putting in work, making his way through the field from his eleventh starting spot. Without a caution to slow the pace, Swiernik had made it into the top three on lap 19, but the lead duo of Franek and Rombough remained unchanged, and Franek took the checkers first in a green-to-checkers run of the A-Main that totaled just six minutes and forty seconds in length. "The track was great," said Franek in victory lane. "We didn't qualify that good, in the heat race we changed some things and then we really didn't do that much for the feature." "To be honest, we've been struggling the last month with the new tires, we've kind of got a balance now though and I feel like we will be pretty good from here on out." Dalton Rombough came home second. "The car was really good, I just couldn't get through lap traffic like him (Franek)," said Rombough. I struggled on the bottom, and I feel like if we could get a little better there we would be in the winners circle." Rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third was Dylan Swiernik. "Without having a caution, to come up there to third was good," said Swiernik. "To come from tenth or eleventh, wherever we came from, we'll take it. I think this is our fifth or sixth straight top three finish so we're on a roll right now, just trying to keep the momentum going." 20 cars signed into the pits Friday night, splitting the field into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Jordan Thomas, Shawn Donath and Dylan Swiernik, while Joe Trenca, Davie Franek and Dylan Swiernik picked up Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins. The Cobra Motorhomes & Trailers Dash presented by Lanes Yamaha was won by Keith Granholm. - Outlaw, Woodhull To Close Out July for Empire Super Sprints
By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | As the month of July comes to a close, the Empire Super Sprints are rapidly closing in on the half-way point of their 2025 season. To finish off the month, two more events are on tap, with a trip to the Outlaw Speedway this Friday, followed by the tour's lone stop at the Woodhull Raceway on Saturday. Friday night, the Empire Super Sprints will compete in the annual Outlaw Summer Nationals, boasting one of the highest paydays of the season with $4,010.10 to the winner on the line commemorating the 10th running of the event. This will be the first of four scheduled stops at the Yates County oval, as the event scheduled in April fell to Mother Nature. Last July, it was Matt Tanner who picked up the Outlaw Summer Nationals, and he will be looking to repeat that feat this weekend. Saturday night, the tour moves just south to the Woodhull Raceway. Dubbed 'New Yorks Toughest Bullring', the high banks of the Woodhull Raceway always provide some of the best action on the schedule. In 2024, Jared Zimbardi picked up the win at Woodhull over Billy VanInwegen and Jason Barney. Additional support on the weekend will come from Lanes Yamaha and Grimes Dairy equipment. Both companies have signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Cobra Dash Series dash's this weekend, with Lanes Yamaha presenting the dash Friday at Outlaw, and Grimes Dairy Equipment supporting Saturday's dash at Woodhull. The points standings remain largely unchanged after last weekends events at Albany-Saratoga and Fonda, with Jordan Poirier still atop the leaderboard with a 160 point advantage over Dylan Swiernik. Jason Barney sits in third, with Paulie Colagiovanni fourth and Davie Franek rounding out the top five. For a full list of gate times and admission prices to both events this weekend, please be sure to visit the Outlaw Speedway and Woodhull Raceway social media pages and websites, along with the Empire Super Sprints social media pages. For the latest news, information, and schedule updates regarding the Empire Super Sprints be sure to check the series website (www.EmpireSuperSprints.com) and follow along on Facebook (Empire Super Sprints), X (@ESSprints) and Instagram (@empiresupersprints). - Varin Tops ESS Field at Fonda
By Curtis Berleue (Fonda, NY) | For the ninth time in the last ten visits to the Fonda Speedway for the Empire Super Sprints, it was Danny Varin in victory lane. The nearly unbeatable driver from just down the road added yet another victory to his win tally on Saturday night, picking up another Earl Halaquist Memorial at the 'Track of Champions' worth $2,000. Pinnacle Pole Award recipient Paulie Colagiovanni led the field to green alongside of Jordan Thomas for the 25 lap event. Colagiovanni looked to have the lead as the field entered turn one, but by the time they hit the backstretch it was Danny Varin in command of the field, coming from his third starting spot. Varin opened his lead up to almost a half-straight almost immediately, with Colagiovanni, Jordan Poirier, Davie Franek and Thomas in tow. By lap 8, Varin caught the back of the field and had just begun to work lap traffic when the caution flew for a spinning Mike Kiser in turn two. When the green flag flew again, Varin again began building his lead over the rest of the field. Behind the top three, it was Shawn Donath who was putting on a show, having passed multiple cars using the extreme high side of the speedway and working his way up to fourth. His success was short lived, as he ultimately ventured just a little too high off of turn two, catching the wall and flipping with just 7 laps remaining. As action resumed, Varin again paced the field over Colagiovanni and Poirier. Dylan Swiernik was making a late-race charge, and with just four laps to go he got by both Poirier and Colagiovanni using the same line Donath had been working just laps earlier. Making a late charge, Swiernik got within three car lengths of Varin on the last lap, but Varin was able to hang on to capture his second Empire Super Sprints win of 2025. "I didn't think that this was going to happen tonight," said Varin. "We weren't very good in the heat race, didn't really feel like we could roll around people. You had to just hit your marks perfect and not make mistakes." After starting eighth, Dylan Swiernik made a late race charge but came up one spot short of victory lane. "We started off a little too tight, had too much fuel and didn't have the balance we wanted," said Swiernik. "When that red came out, I was able to kinda reset in my mind and pull the wing forward, tell myself I knew what I needed to do on the top side." Jordan Poirier rounded out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium, finishing third and marking his second podium finish in as many nights. The field was split into two timed hot lap groups, with Danny Varin and Jordan Poirier earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins went to Paulie Colagiovanni and Jordan Poirier, while Joe Trenca picked up the win in the One Zee Tees dash. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is this coming Friday July 25th at the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY for the Outlaw Summer Nationals paying $4,000 to win. - Poirier Back in Victory Lane at Albany-Saratoga
By Curtis Berleue (Malta, NY) | For the fourth time in 2025, Jordan Poirier is an Empire Super Sprints winner. Though he started on the pole, it was far from an easy night for the Quebec driver as he held off multiple charges from Paulie Colagiovanni and Danny Varin en-route to his $2,000 victory. Jordan Poirier and Jeff Trombley brought the field to the initial green flag, and it was Poirier who grabbed the early lead. Paulie Colagiovanni followed in his tracks to take second, but Trombley fought back to reclaim the runner-up spot. Behind the lead trio, Shawn Donath was comfortably in fourth with Danny Varin just behind in fifth. After 5 laps, Trombley came under fire once again from Colagiovanni, with Colagiovanni clearing the #3A of Trombley via a slide job in turns one and two. As Poirier caught lap traffic, Colagiovanni was catching him and by lap 9 Colagiovanni was right on his tail tank. He wasn't able to make anything of his hard work though, as the caution flew for Jeff Trombley who had slowed in turn four. On the ensuing restart, Poirier again jumped out to the lead with Colagiovanni and now Danny Varin in tow for third. A handful of laps later, Colagiovanni was again within striking distance of Poirier and cleared a slide job in turns one and two. His lead was short lived, however, as Poirier was able to turn back under Colagiovanni and re-take the lead down the backstretch. A late race restart would allow Danny Varin to get by Colagiovanni, and for the next few laps the duo would trade sliders for second until Varin mis-stepped on the cushion in turn two and went over the bank, bringing out another caution. With a clear track in front of him, nobody was able to catch Poirier who picked up his fourth win of 2025. "I knew he (Colagiovanni) was good up top early in the night," said Poirier. "I was cheating the cushion a little bit and then I started hearing him so I tried to venture up a little bit more." "My car was really good on the cushion, I thought 3 & 4 was going away at some point, but I just didn't want to miss out by going to the bottom and then it stayed good up top all race." Paulie Colagiovanni held on to second for his season-best finish thus far. "I thought I had a run on Jordan coming into three and four and I was going to slide him, but the caution came out," said Colagiovanni. "Every time the caution came out after that a couple of cars just got under me but I'm glad we hung on for second." Dylan Swiernik continued his strong season with another podium finish, rounding out the top three. "This is probably our favorite place to come to on the calendar," said Swiernik. "To come from twelfth to third here, we'll take it and move on to Fonda tomorrow." 24 cars signed into the pits on Friday night at Albany-Saratoga, and as such the field was split into three timed hot lap groups. Jason Barney, Danny Varin and Jordan Thomas earned Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards, while Barney, Davie Franek and Paulie Colagiovanni won Elab Smokers Boutique heat races. The We Know Tools dash was won by Kyle Smith. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is Saturday July 19th at the Fonda Speedway in Fonda, NY.
