Cypress, CA — September 3, 2026 — After a five-year wait, California sprint car star Brody Roa will return to his favorite West Coast racetrack, the Calistoga Speedway, this Saturday and Sunday, September 5th and 6th. Roa will be competing in the 15th Annual Louie Vermiel Classic sanctioned by the Avanti Window and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars.
Since 2019, Roa, who lives in Garden Grove, California, has only competed on the big half mile once. A planned 2020 race was canceled by Covid. After his appearance in 2021, the track was closed in 2022, 2023, and 2024. And, it faced a dim future. However, much to the relief of racers and fans alike, the track reopened in 2025.
Roa's performances at Calistoga have been stellar ever since his first appearance at the track when he finished fifth on back-to-back days in 2017. All told, he has made eight appearances at the track located in the beautiful California Wine Country. He has finished in the top six in seven of those efforts, and five of those have been in the top five. His best finish was a second on September 2, 2018. The last time he was there, he placed third in 2021.
While the track came back to life last season after being dormant for three years, Roa was absent from the competition by his own choice. Last year he decided not to go as he felt the Dash 12 engine he was using would not be fast enough to have a chance of winning on the big track.
"It is a long drive to run with a lot of good guys with a lot of horsepower," Roa said last month. "You have to run a super tall gear. What we had last year wasn't going to be good enough to go up there. I am at the point in my life with my racing and my family; I do not want to show up and not expect to win. I am excited to get up there with this thing we have this year because I think we can win."
"It has been a long time, and that is my favorite track on the West Coast," he said of the racing facility located in Northern California's Wine Country. "It is my favorite track on the West Coast because of how big it is. It is big, and extremely fast. I like that stuff; it is just kind of my style. I am excited to get back up there."
