Warner Springs, California — September 2, 2026 — For only the second time in 2026, "Shugah'" Shane Sexton climbed into his 410 sprint car last Saturday night. The site was the famous Ventura Raceway, and the event was with the Ultimate Sprint Car Series. The likeable 23-year-old will return to action in the SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series at Barona Speedway on September 12th.
Last week at Ventura, Sexton, who lives in Warner Springs, California, made the trek from San Diego County to the oceanside oval for the USCS race. He qualified sixth in his eight-car group with a time of 14.044. That was also good for sixth overall in the 22-car field.
Sexton returned to the track for his 10-lap heat race. Seemingly stuck on the number six for the night, he started and finished sixth in the preliminary.
For the 30-lap main event on the tiny track, the friendly driver started 16th and moved forward to finish 14th.
"Super fun weekend back behind the wheel of the 410 with Ultimate Sprint Car Series at Ventura Raceway," Sexton told his Facebook friends. "I started the weekend qualifying sixth in my group, which was sixth overall out of 22 cars. Started sixth finished sixth in my heat. We made some changes to the car that I wouldn't normally make. So, I was a little too conservative, and the car was really good for about the first half of the main but was holding on the remaining half of the race. Started 16th finished 14th."
"Car is one piece, and we're looking forward to our next outing (with USCS) whenever that might be. A HUGE thank you to Raina Morse, Sydney Sexton, and Grant Sexton for all the help on the car. 100% wouldn't have been able to have a good night if it was not for them."
Sexton will take this weekend off before returning to action on September 12th to continue his pursuit of the 2026 SoCal Lightning Sprint Car Series championship at Barona Speedway. He enters that race second in the title chase, only 68 points out of the lead.
Including the September 12th event, the SCLS has four races remaining in the 2026 campaign. Two will be at Barona, while Ventura Raceway and Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway will host one race each.
