  Sobotka Wins at Brighton Speedway

  By Curtis Berleue (Brighton, ONT) | Zach Sobotka is $2,000 richer after picking up his first Empire Super Sprints win of 2026 on Saturday night in the Transport Benoit Lafleur ESS Canada Tour event at the Brighton Speedway. After starting on the outside pole, Sobotka led early but had to fight back by Jordan Thomas after Thomas got by him during the early stages of the race. Jordan Thomas and Zach Sobotka brought the field to green, with Sobotka getting the early advantage over Thomas. Trevor Years settled into third, with Dillon Paddock just behind him. By lap 6, Paddock was able to make his way around Years to into third, but up front it was still Sobotka setting the pace over Thomas. On lap 11, Thomas was able to get by Sobotka, and he would stay there or the next 10 laps. Thomas wasn't ever able to open a large margin over Sobotka, and with five laps to go Sobotka re-took the lead from Thomas. Sixth-starting Davie Franek has been slowly making his way through the field, and on lap 23 he had worked his way into a podium spot. With two laps to go, he got by Thomas for second, but with just over a one second lead he was unable to catch Sobotka who scored his first win of 2026. "Jordan showed me the bottom there, I felt like it picked up some grip there," said Sobotka in victory lane. "I knew it was going to take some rubber down there, I just really didn't know when. It was good to get the win." Davie Franek would finish second after starting sixth. "The track was excellent, you couldn't ask for anything better," said Franek. "It was slick to a curb up top. Once it got blown off a little bit as the race went on, our car just kept getting better and better." Jordan Thomas rounded out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium for his second third-place finish on the weekend. "When I got to the lead I was kind of judging myself on the lap cars," said Thomas. "I wasn't really gaining on them, and I heard him (Sobotka) on the top. He was carrying momentum and I was just a sitting duck." With 21 cars in the pits, the field was split into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Jordan Poirier, Tyeller Powless and Davie Franek. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Logan Crisafulli, Alex Therrien and Zach Sobotka, while the Donath Motor Worx Dash presented by Advanced Electrical and Communications went to Dale Curran. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is Friday June 12th at the Freedom Motorsports Park in Delevan, NY for the Julia Horton Memorial paying $5,000 to win.   Sheridan Picks up ESS Win at Ohsweken

  By Curtis Berleue (Ohsweken, ONT) | After taking the lead early, Ohsweken regular Nick Sheridan picked up another Empire Super Sprints win on Friday at the Ohsweken Speedway. The event was the first of the 2026 Transport Benoit Lafleur ESS Canada Tour, and worth $2,000 for his efforts. Ohsweken regulars DJ Christie and Nick Sheridan would bring the field to green, with Sheridan grabbing the lead early on the high side. Christie settled into second with Jordan Thomas hot on his heels. Thomas would slip by Christie on lap two on the bottom, and then immediately returned to the high side. Using the same slider line, Skyler Evans made multiple attempts to get by Christie for third, but Christie was able to tuck back under him each time to hold on to the position. After a quick yellow for Dillon Paddock with a flat tire, Sheridan and Thomas again jumped out to the lead with Christie in third. This time, however, Christie was under fire from Jordan Poirier who had worked his way into fourth from his 10th starting position. Another restart on lap 9 yielded much of the same results, with Sheridan and Thomas out front and Poirier battling Christie for third. Two laps later, Poirier was able to get by Christie and set his sights on Thomas and Sheridan. As he caught lap traffic with only a few laps remaining, Sheridan was able to keep some distance between himself and Thomas to pick up the win. With a late race rally, Cory Turner came out of nowhere to get by Jordan Thomas to finish second, completing a march to the front from his 17th starting position. "It was a tough race, I really didn't think I had the car to win going into the feature to be honest," said Sheridan in victory lane. "I saw how slick it got and I wish I changed some more things going into the feature than I did, we kind of ran out of time." "A few laps in I just trunked the wing and changed some cockpit dials with the shocks and got the car a lot better." Cory Turner picked up the A-Verdi Storage Containers hard charger award on the night, passing 15 cars en-route to a second-place finish. "We were not good when we unloaded, went ninth quick and just buried ourselves in that heat race but we didn't get down on ourselves, we kept working," said Turner. "The track went just the way we like it, no cushion, slick, run through the middle." After running second most of the race, Jordan Thomas came home third rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium. "The Ohsweken locals are definitely putting it to us here the past couple of years," said Thomas. "We're just really turning our program around with motor issues at the beginning of the year, now we've got that all straightened out." 35 cars lined the pits on Friday at Ohsweken, which would split the field into four timed hot lap sessions. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Matt Farnham, Darren Dryden, Eric Gledhill, and Dylan Westbrook. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by DJ Christie, Darren Dryden, Skyler Evans and Kyle Phillips. The Donath Motor Worx Dash presented by Goliath Holdings was won by Kyle Phillips, while Jacob Dykstra won the B-Main.
