  Franek Back in ESS Victory Lane at Outlaw

  By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | New Jersey's Davie Franek once again found himself in Empire Super Sprints victory lane, this time at the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY on Friday night. His $4,022 victory was his second of the season, and helped him maintain third in the championship chase. Shawn Donath and Jordan Poirier led the field to the initial green flag, with Poirier jumping out to an early advantage. A quick yellow meant the initial start would be run again, and led to the same result as Poirier again took the lead over Donath and Jordan Hutton. Just two laps in, Hutton suffered a mechanical failure, subsequently ending his night. By lap four, fifth-starting Davie Franek had not only entered a podium position, but grabbed second from Donath utilizing the bottom of the track. He would then set his sight on Poirier. By lap seven, Franek had caught Poirier and again using the bottom, took the lead off of turn two. From that point on, the leaders would break away from the rest of the field until reaching lap traffic. As Franek reached lap traffic, his lead over Poirier and the lead duos lead over the field vanished. Along with Jared Zimbardi who had worked his way into third around Shawn Donath, Franek and Poirier began to search for the best way through lap cars. Lap 14 saw the caution fly for Jordan Poirier and Trevor Years, who had been battling for the fifth spot. With a clear track ahead, Franek again jumped out to the lead over Poirier and Donath in third. Ultimately, nobody had anything for Franek in clean air, and he sailed to victory. "The car was just really good rotating the bottom there," said Franek in victory lane. "I really thought the race was going to be won on the top, but I kinda had to go where they weren't." "You just gotta be up on the wheel here, it's a drivers track - Tyler gives us a great track every time we come up here. You can move around in so many different locations and make speed. It makes for great racing." With three to go, Donath got by Poirier for second, and came home in the runner up spot. "The guys made an adjustment there before the A," said Donath. "I really wasn't planning on all that water out there, it was killing us on the starts. But we had a really nice driving Donath Motor Worx engine under the hood and I'm just thankful to have all these great people behind us." Poirier was able to hold on to third to round out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium. "I just needed my right rear not to go flat," said Poirier. "After that yellow, I knew something was wrong, I kept getting tight so I couldn't go up on the cushion so I was stuck to the bottom. Davie was pretty good down there and I was just maintaining my speed." The field was split into three timed hot lap groups, with Spencer Burley, Jordan Hutton and Jordan Thomas each earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. Elab Smokers Boutique heats were won by Shawn Donath, Jordan Hutton and Jared Zimbardi, while the Donath Motor Worx Dash presented by Lanes Yamaha was won by Billy VanInwegen.   $4,011 to Win Outlaw Summer Nationals Next for Empire Super Sprints

  By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | One of the biggest nights of sprint car racing in New York is set to hit the track on Friday night at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY. The Empire Super Sprints will be competing in the annual Outlaw Summer Nationals, an event that will pay $4,011 to the winner. Also on the card for the night will be the CRSA 305 sprints, competing for a $2,011 top prize. Over the past few seasons, there has been an increased number of drivers competing simultaneously in the 305 and 360 ranks in the northeast, and as such a bonus has been put up - if a driver is to win both the 360 and 305 A-Main on Friday night, they will take home an extra $5,000. That means one drive could potentially leave Dundee with an $11,022 payday. In one previous Empire Super Sprints A-Main held at Outlaw this season, Jordan Hutton was victorious. He picked up $4,220 with his victory in the Outlaw Spring Nationals back on April 24. Hutton will look to repeat his early season success in Dundee in chase of the bonus money this weekend - he also has won at the track in a 305 (August, 2025). With the season now in its mid-summer stretch, Jordan Poirier still sits atop the standings with a 36 point lead over Zach Sobotka. Perennial Outlaw Speedway favorite Davie Franek is currently third, with Jordan Thomas and Jason Barney rounding out the top five. While Poirier hopes to make 2026 a fifth-straight championship season, the battle is far from over with 12 A-Mains having been completed thus far, and 12 left to be completed on the schedule. The Donath Motor Worx Dash will be presented by Lanes Yamaha this Friday.   Varin Victorious at Albany-Saratoga

  By Curtis Berleue (Malta, NY) | For the first time in 2026, and second time at Albany-Saratoga, Danny Varin was victorious on Friday with the Empire Super Sprints. The Fonda, NY driver spent the majority of the race in the top three, and took advantage of a late-race restart to get to the lead and pick up $2,000 for his efforts. Dylan Swiernik and Jason Barney led the field to green from the front row, with Swiernik taking the lead into turn one. Matt Tanner would immediately jump to second by utilizing the extreme high side of the speedway to get by Barney in turns one and two. Danny Varin settled into third, with Barney in fourth. At the front of the field, Swiernik and Tanner were running completely opposite lines, with Swiernik on the extreme bottom and Tanner on the extreme top. A caution on lap 6 for Kyle Smith bunched the field back up. On the ensuing restart, Swiernik again jumped to the lead, and Jason Barney Briefly claimed second via a slider in turn one, but was unable to hold pace and again fell to fourth. On lap 10, Tanner had a head of steam off the top side of turn four and was able to get by Swiernik to take the lead. Another caution with just 10 laps to go would set up a double file restart, with Tanner taking the lead briefly only for Swiernik to pass him using the same high line off four that afforded him the lead just a handful of laps prior. As the laps dwindled, the top four were battling hard , leading to contact between Barney and Swiernik, with Swiernik coming to a stop in turn two. On the restart with seven to go, it would be Danny Varin taking control of the field, after spending the majority of prior laps sitting in third. Tanner settled into second, with Jordan Poirier entering the top three. With a clear track in front of him, it was Varin who crossed the line first, for his first victory of 2026. "It was dicey - the track was technical tonight," said Varin in victory lane. "Im super happy for this team - we've been struggling since we went to this tire, we're just trying to work with it and do the best we can. It's hard to get a good feel for it but we will keep plugging away." Matt Tanner came home second after leading through the middle of the A-Main. "We didn't lead the laps we needed to there at the end, said Tanner. "But from where we were during speed week, we really struggled but we put our heads together and put a good package together for tonight." "It definitely paid off, we went quick time, won the heat and I was just pretty happy to run with Dylan, as fast as he's been." Jordan Poirier rounded out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium with a third-place finish. "Every yellow I could play with my shock a little bit, try to get my car a little bit better," said Poirier. "We were just a tiny bit too loose in the beginning of the race, but after that every yellow we got better and better. Sixth to third in these conditions, I will take it."   Sobotka Wins at Brighton Speedway

  By Curtis Berleue (Brighton, ONT) | Zach Sobotka is $2,000 richer after picking up his first Empire Super Sprints win of 2026 on Saturday night in the Transport Benoit Lafleur ESS Canada Tour event at the Brighton Speedway. After starting on the outside pole, Sobotka led early but had to fight back by Jordan Thomas after Thomas got by him during the early stages of the race. Jordan Thomas and Zach Sobotka brought the field to green, with Sobotka getting the early advantage over Thomas. Trevor Years settled into third, with Dillon Paddock just behind him. By lap 6, Paddock was able to make his way around Years to into third, but up front it was still Sobotka setting the pace over Thomas. On lap 11, Thomas was able to get by Sobotka, and he would stay there or the next 10 laps. Thomas wasn't ever able to open a large margin over Sobotka, and with five laps to go Sobotka re-took the lead from Thomas. Sixth-starting Davie Franek has been slowly making his way through the field, and on lap 23 he had worked his way into a podium spot. With two laps to go, he got by Thomas for second, but with just over a one second lead he was unable to catch Sobotka who scored his first win of 2026. "Jordan showed me the bottom there, I felt like it picked up some grip there," said Sobotka in victory lane. "I knew it was going to take some rubber down there, I just really didn't know when. It was good to get the win." Davie Franek would finish second after starting sixth. "The track was excellent, you couldn't ask for anything better," said Franek. "It was slick to a curb up top. Once it got blown off a little bit as the race went on, our car just kept getting better and better." Jordan Thomas rounded out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium for his second third-place finish on the weekend. "When I got to the lead I was kind of judging myself on the lap cars," said Thomas. "I wasn't really gaining on them, and I heard him (Sobotka) on the top. He was carrying momentum and I was just a sitting duck." With 21 cars in the pits, the field was split into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Jordan Poirier, Tyeller Powless and Davie Franek. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Logan Crisafulli, Alex Therrien and Zach Sobotka, while the Donath Motor Worx Dash presented by Advanced Electrical and Communications went to Dale Curran.
