- Donath Wins First of 2025 at Can-Am
By Curtis Berleue (LaFargeville, NY) | For the first time in 2025, Shawn Donath picked up the $2,000 win in Empire Super Sprints competition on Friday night at the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY. It was his first victory at the northern NY oval since 2014. Tyler Rand and Jordan Poirier led the field to green for 25 laps, and as the field completed lap one it was Poirier with the lead, followed by Davie Franek and Rand. Utilizing the extreme outside line of the speedway, Poirier quickly opened up a straightaway lead over the rest of the field. By lap 7, Poirier had reached the back of the field, which allowed Franek to close the gap slightly. Behind them, Shawn Donath had managed to work his way around Joe Trenca for third. A handful of laps later, Donath used the low side of the track to pull even with Franek, and slide him for position exiting turn four. His efforts were short lived, however, as Alex Therrien used the same move on Donath in the next set of corners, taking second and setting his sights on fellow Quebec driver Poirier. Therrien was able to catch Poirier and take the lead as the duo crossed the line to complete lap 16. While Therrien opened his lead, Donath was able to get by Poirier for second. With three to go, Donath had caught Therrien and made his move to take the lead off of turn four. Despite a late race charge from Franek, Shawn Donath held on to take his first win of 2025. "Kudos to Tyler and his team, what a great race track," said Donath in victory lane. "After that first start I was third and I knew we had a good car, it just took a little bit to get rolling." Davie Franek crossed the line in second. "Shawn was good, I wish I moved down a little bit earlier, it started getting sticky down there with some rubber," said Franek. "I probably could have pushed the envelope going into three there at the end, but on a two day weekend you don't want to have to pull your backup car down." Alex Therrien held on to round out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third. "I made some mistakes at the end of the race, it's my fault for losing the lead," said Therrien of his third place finish. 22 cars signed in on Friday night at Can-Am, and as such the field was split into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Davie Franek, Logan Crisafulli and Paulie Colagiovanni, and Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Franek, Dalton Rombough and Jordan Poirier. The Cooks Family Diner Dash was won by Matt Tanner. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is Saturday August 2nd at the Brockville Ontario Speedway in Brockville, ONT. By Curtis Berleue (LaFargeville, NY) | The month of August is set to start with a bang for the Empire Super Sprints, as another doubleheader weekend is scheduled for August 1 & 2. On Friday, August 1 the tour will visit the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY for the second of three scheduled visits. The following night will see action at the Brockville Ontario Speedway in Brockville, Ontario. Earlier this season, the annual CNY Speedweek kicked off at the Can-Am Speedway and it was Dylan Swiernik who ended the night in victory lane. In one previous visit to Brockville back in June, Canadian Jordan Poirier was victorious. Both drivers are looking for repeat performances as they battle for the top spot in the point standings. After 14 races, Jordan Poirier maintains the lead in the points race with 1584 points, four wins and fourteen top-ten finishes, while Dylan Swiernik sits second with 1418 points, three wins and 12 top-ten finishes. Jason Barney is third in points, followed by Davie Franek and Shawn Donath. - Hebing Tames Highbanks of Woodhull Raceway
By Curtis Berleue (Woodhull, NY) | Though only running a limited schedule in 2025, Chuck Hebing once again found his way to victory lane at the highbanks of the Woodhull Raceway on Saturday night. 'The Cobra' added one more to his win total, breaking a tie for third with Lance Yonge on the all-time Empire Super Sprints feature win list with his 40th victory. Jason Barney drew the Pinnacle Pole Award and thus led the field to green alongside of Hebing. Hebing used his outside starting position to his advantage, and immediately opened lead over Shawn Donath and Barney. As the laps clicked off, Hebing, Donath and Barney began to separate themselves from the rest of the field. By lap 10, Hebing had reached the back of the field, beginning to navigate lap traffic. Behind Hebing and Donath, Barney, Davie Franek and Jordan Poirier were having a spirited battle for the final podium spot, with Poirier emerging with possession of third place on lap 15. For the second straight night, a non-stop feature with a total run time of less than 7 minutes took place, and ultimately Donath nor Poirier had anything for Hebing as he picked up the win. "Woodhull has been awful good to me over the years," said Hebing in victory lane. "The moisture they put on it made it kinda locked down, but it awas good." "I wanted to retire again, so this is a good way to do it. We had a good career, we'll do some boating now." Shawn Donath picked up a second place finish. "These guys gave me a heck of a racecar," said Donath. "I didn't think anyone was going to try the bottom, but with the conditions they were dealt today, they did a great job with the track." Jordan Poirier finished third, rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium. "We're pretty happy with third, we have struggled here in the past," said Poirier. "We started sixth which is pretty deep, I didn't know how much the track was going to widen out with the water they put on it before the feature but it was actually super racey." With the threat of rain all night, the field was split into two timed hot lap groups with Dylan Swiernik and Jared Zimbardi earning Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards. Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins went to Dylan Swiernik and Davie Franek, and Trevor Years won the Cobra Motorhomes & Trailers dash presented by Grimes Dairy Equipment. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is this coming Friday, August 1st at the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY. - Franek Wins Empire Super Sprints Outlaw Summer Nationals
By Curtis Berleue (Dundee, NY) | For the second time in two years, Davie Franek picked up a $4,000 victory at the Outlaw Speedway on Friday night. Last years Outlaw Fall Nationals winner once again found victory lane at the Dundee oval, this time leading every lap in a non-stop feature in the Outlaw Summer Nationals worth $4,000. By virtue of drawing the Pinnacle Pole award, Joe Trenca and Davie Franek led the field to green. As the field reached turn one, it was Franek with the advantage. Behind Franek, Jordan Poirier made quick work of the four cars in front of him, moving from his sixth place starting spot into second behind Franek. Dalton Rombough followed in third. Two laps later, Rombough was able to sneak by Poirier to take second. The lead duo would remain the same for the next several laps, all working the high side of the speedway. Behind the leaders, Dylan Swiernik was putting in work, making his way through the field from his eleventh starting spot. Without a caution to slow the pace, Swiernik had made it into the top three on lap 19, but the lead duo of Franek and Rombough remained unchanged, and Franek took the checkers first in a green-to-checkers run of the A-Main that totaled just six minutes and forty seconds in length. "The track was great," said Franek in victory lane. "We didn't qualify that good, in the heat race we changed some things and then we really didn't do that much for the feature." "To be honest, we've been struggling the last month with the new tires, we've kind of got a balance now though and I feel like we will be pretty good from here on out." Dalton Rombough came home second. "The car was really good, I just couldn't get through lap traffic like him (Franek)," said Rombough. I struggled on the bottom, and I feel like if we could get a little better there we would be in the winners circle." Rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium in third was Dylan Swiernik. "Without having a caution, to come up there to third was good," said Swiernik. "To come from tenth or eleventh, wherever we came from, we'll take it. I think this is our fifth or sixth straight top three finish so we're on a roll right now, just trying to keep the momentum going." 20 cars signed into the pits Friday night, splitting the field into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Jordan Thomas, Shawn Donath and Dylan Swiernik, while Joe Trenca, Davie Franek and Dylan Swiernik picked up Elab Smokers Boutique heat wins. The Cobra Motorhomes & Trailers Dash presented by Lanes Yamaha was won by Keith Granholm. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is Saturday July 26th at the Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, NY. By Curtis Berleue (Delevan, NY) | For the second straight year, it was Davie Franek sitting in victory lane on the front stretch at Freedom Motorsports Park in Empire Super Sprints competition. Earning $4,000 for his efforts, Franek backed up his 2024 performance in the Julia Horton Memorial on Saturday Night. By virtue of drawing the Pinnacle Pole Award, Franek led the field to green alongside of Jared Zimbardi. Using the high side of the speedway, Zimbardi was able to hold pace with Franek through turns one and two, and by the time the duo got to turn four, Zimbardi had cleared Franek for sole possession of the lead. Over the next handful of laps, Zimbardi led Franek, Jason Barney Jordan Thomas and Matt Farnham. Just as Zimbardi reached lap traffic, the red flag flew for Evan Reynolds who had flipped in turn four. On the ensuing restart, Zimbardi chose the high line and was able to maintain the lead. Just a few laps later, another yellow meant another restart, and a similar outcome as again Zimbardi was able to maintain the lead on the high side. On the third restart shortly after, however, Franek was able to keep pace enough through turns one and two to clear Zimbardi and take the lead. Following along in Franek's tire tracks was Jason Barney, who took over second position. Through one more restart, the running order at the front of the field remained the same and Franek took the checkered flag first, winning the Julia Horton Memorial. "With a full fuel load, we weren't that good at the beginning of the race," said Franek in victory lane. "Once I got by Jared, I started pacing myself pretty decent. I knew if I just kept my speed up I would be good." "The track really came around here at the end, you could be top, middle, bottom. It was really, really good." Jason Barney came home in second, his best finish thus far in 2025. "All those late cautions definitely didn't help us," said Barney. "I got along side of him (Franek) on that last restart and thought I something for a second." Rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery podium was Jared Zimbardi. "The car just didn't take off like I wanted it to and it let Davie get next to me," said Zimbardi. "Car was really good, but those double file restarts can help or hurt you, and it hurt us tonight." 18 cars signed in to Freedom Motorsports Park on Saturday night. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Matt Farnham, Shawn Donath and Davie Franek. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Jared Zimbardi, Joe Trenca and Jason Barney. The Cobra Coaches Dash presented by Mechanical Service Company was won by Matt Tanner. - Poirier Wins First ESS Visit to Brighton
By Curtis Berleue (Brighton, ONT) | For the second time in as many nights, Jordan Poirier found himself on the podium with the Empire Super Sprints. This time, however, it was one spot better than Friday as he picked up the win at the Brighton Speedway in the tours first ever visit to the Canadian oval. Starting on the Pinnacle Pole was Skyler Evans, and Evans jumped out to an early lead on the field. That, however, was short lived as fourth starting Shawn Donath made quick work of the cars in front of him and jumped out to the lead on lap two. Behind Donath, 6th-starting Jordan Poirier was on a similar trajectory as he moved up to second in just three laps. As the laps clicked off, Poirier held pace and inched ever closer to Donath. On lap 16, Poirier was able to pounce on Donath and grab the lead. Just two laps later, Logan Crisafulli, who started in 7th. He ultimately wouldn't have anything for Poirier though, as the Quebec driver sailed to victory lane for his first win of 2025. "My car was really, really good everywhere," said Poirier in victory lane. "It was classic Brighton, they just put a little bit of water on (before the feature) and it made the track come back alive. The track was perfect tonight." Logan Crisafulli would hang on for second, his first podium of 2025. "It was fun, the track picked up speed quick," said Crisafulli. "It was really fun. I would definitely like to come back again." Rounding out the Ashley Lynn Winery Podium was Alex Therrien. "The top was very good at the beginning of the race," said Therrien. "At the end, the bottom was too though so I tried my best to pick the right line." 28 cars lined the pits for the Empire Super Sprints first visit to Brighton, dividing the field into three timed hot lap groups. Rifenburg Contracting fast time awards went to Davie Franek, Alex Therrien, and Shawn Donath. Elab Smokers Boutique heat races were won by Logan Crisafulli, Dale Curran, and Skyler Evans. The Lacaillade Masonry B-Main was won by Jordan Thomas. The next scheduled event for the Empire Super Sprints is this coming Saturday June 7th at the Freedom Motorsports Park in Delevan, NY.
